As a professional electrical engineer, I cringe when I watch DIY boat builders do electrics on boats. How refreshing to see someone do some actual design work with calculations - even volt drop calcs. Very impressive!! I doff my cap to you Sir!!

I admire your confidence and your ability....When I fitted out my boat I got a qualified sparky to do the lot for me. He tried to explain what and why he did this and that, but as hard as I tried to get it, I got total brain freeze. i supplied the Bacon sarnies and coffee as he pulled cable here then there, connected this and that and the whole lot was just spaghetti to me....So my deepest respect to you.
You are doing an awesome Job there on the wiring, great planning work too, as a retired Sparky I didn't even see allot of folk do as much detail back in the Day!
Very interesting, in years to come you'll appreciate all the time it took to produce all of those diagrams etc. and they'll be a bonus when you come to sell the boat. I'm not watching your videos in order so I've only just seen it. Using modern LED lights isn't it amazing how little voltage drop there is, you couldn't have got away with that thin 2•5mm□ cable in the "olden days" when only incandescent bulbs were available. Looking forward to seeing part 2.
Seriously impressed by the book for planning it all out. When I worked for BT we used numbered collets for identifying cables, a bit like the heat shrink. Might be easier than trying to colour code everything. Keep at it. Stay safe.
Cheers mate. When we finally fit the LED lights I'll be covering the connections with heat shrink and fitting ferrules to the ends of the wires into the switches.
Hi Penny, We got them from amazon. They are from a company called lighting innovations LTD. They are advertised for use in Campervan, Caravan and Motorhome. We got them a long time ago and they were £123 for 10. Hope that helps 👍

Hi George. Saw your comment last night and I wondered what you had seen to make you think the lights are wired in series. I've checked and double checked and I still think I have wired them in parallel. Can you let me know what bit on the video looks like I've done it wrong so I can take a look. It's good to have extra eyes keeping an eye out for you. 👍
Thanks Liam for the info. The connections are only a temporary fix while we test if the lighting circuit works ok. When they are fixed in permanently we will be using ferrules and complying to RCD. I do mention it's a temporary fix in the vlog around 26.35 but perhaps didn't make it clear enough.

Cheers George. Had too much time on my hands in lockdown !! Did look at the collets but I'm a tight sod and had tape on the boat. 👍.
@@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg I was looking at it and trying to figure if you were using the resistor color code. Black=0, Brown=1, Red=2, etc.

It's good practice not to leave any uninsulated cable exposed when wiring up switches either cut the end shorter or more heatshrink sleeving

Can you tell me where you sourced your LED lights from? Are they the undercabinet downlighter style as they are only 1.8W?

The 12v down lights I have specifically say that they should be wired in parallel and not in series !

The RCD States that all terminal ends (such as a light switch connection), should have terminal ends….
