- Today we return to the Galaxy, to tell the story of rebel legends Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus, the warrior guardians from Jedha. Rather than simply explain their history though, we are going to journey into their hearts and minds and seek to really understand what they mean to the Star Wars Universe.

The best characters to ever die without getting a sequel
True I know his 3 main seems are the most watch and paused by me
Yet
Or a prequel
Rogue One is the only movie that I honestly like from Disney's star wars.
Yes, definitely due to the director trying to make a war movie from the start. Its two Darth Vader scenes also make OT Vader look like a wimp.
Eh, solo was good too
@@newsaxonyproductions7871 also yes when my dad saw it he was like "why us vader so bad ass now but in a few hours he doesn't even step onto the ship until it's cleared?"
@@kostakatsoulis2922 Solo was... different. It doesn't really fit with the other movies, as it is a heist film. It also offers up some rewriting of established canon lore, such as the origin of the Falcon, Han's lucky dice, the origin of Han's last name, and the design of the YT-1300.
@@newsaxonyproductions7871 I get that, but I think that not looking at anything but the movie itself, it's pretty good
Chirrut died knowing that Baze's faith in the Force had been restored, and in that way he died content and at peace. And Baze died beside his life friend (would he have been able to live as a full person without him?), not content but accepting of his fate - feeling the melancholia of the moment, but knowing they had done _Good_ as the Force willed it.
And besides, they were about to both get a multi megaton explosion in the next couple of minutes, and it's not like Chirrut could appreciate the oncoming fireball.
They were the heart and soul of the movie! I choose to believe that one of the closest people alive to embody what a real Jedi would be is Donnie Yen! There are others but Donnie is Chirrut.
Loved the fact they were perfectly imperfect, they made the movie a complete story.
Should have been a Churrit/Baze series instead of the Cassian Andor series in development.
I'm not sure it would have worked. I love the characters but lorewise, they never really left Jedha. The writters would have to either break the canon or have it all happen on Jedha.
@@Torlik11 They could leave Jedha for a quest. But I get what you are trying to say, some characters are great support characters, but doesn't work with their own film.
HOWEVER, Donnie Yen can make it work! I think we can enjoy 2 hours of martial art movie taking place in the Star War Universe even if the story line is stupid.
@@Torlik11 It could be the Star Wars equivalent of Kung Fu, but without the yellowface.
A potential story could start the moment a Star Destroyer appears above the temple ruins to mine the Kyber Crystals for the Death Star. Flashbacks to how the temple fell and their initial survival. Hell, the entire first season could be about finding out what the Imperials are doing to the temple ruins.
Just look at how much of a slow burn The Mandolorian S1 is.
Throw in sub plots involving Saw Gerrera's partisans, how Churrit went blind, maybe a few stories about their past catching up to them, a love interest, an apprentice, or any number of wuxia tropes, and you've got the bones of a multi season story.
I would love to see a movie that depicts what happened on Jedha when the Jedi died and the Empire took over, and there’s a book about them, I believe, that tells of how they worked with Saw for a bit....and I would love to see a movie about that.
@@NotQuiteUseful Let's petition for this to air as a tv show.
When they died I was about to cry ngl
Omg.. Baze and Chirrut’s bromance was
Great. Their banter, and then when Baze yells “CHIRRUT!!! COME BACK!!!!” It ripped my heart open
It doesn't really matter if you are religious or not Chirrut is honestly a prime example of optimism during your worst days. Hot damn those two deserve a Disney + series
Baze and Chirrut, one of the best interpretations of brothers in combat I’ve seen on screen. if you’ve ever kicked a door, or been in a gun fight, you know who these guys are.
No my friend, death is but an instant, salvation is for eternity.
Chirrut was one of my favorite characters in Rogue One because it shows us a glimpse into how the Force affects people from a different perspective. To him, the Force isn't just something you use to push a person away, or draw your lightsaber to you. It's a lifestyle. It's a completely different form of perceiving the world. Even without Jedi training Chirrut is very strong in his ability to sense others, and their intentions. It brings depth to the Force in a way most other Star Wars media just... doesn't.
I thought the "truth" was that they were married.
These two always stood out to me, I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves their characters and dynamic.
They certainly act like an old married couple.
"When darkness falls and devils flourish..." loved that. That's pure gold right there. I like how 'Merican Ben writes his dialogue like it's right out of the pages of a novel. The style, detail, and alliteration he uses are all characteristic choices that I would categorize as, 'descriptive poetic intellectualism.'
I agree. It is better to die with a clean and pure and saved soul than live corrupted and tainted.
Those two where friggin great and added such legitimacy to the movie.
i don't care what anybody says the top of chirrut's staff is half of a lightsaber hilt(the other half is halfway down and is seen as a connector holding the staff together at the middle) the tip of the staff is even open just as a lightsabers hilt is open i swear its just a lightsaber detached at the halfway point and connected to the wooden staff
On Chirrut's place I would have discarded my saber crystal, so it won't attract imperials and become part of the DS. Maybe he did the same thing.
@@samaepl right? I was more just pointing out that the staff definitely had parts to a light saber lol
Right, and the facts that his staff had a “battery” supposedly
Thank you so much for this BEAUTIFUL analysis on one of my favourite duos from the Star Wars franchise. Wish we could get more Chirrut and Baze content.
One of your best Analysis of characters ever for Star Wars.
Chirrut Imwe is one of my favourites EVER!
Thanks. Two of my very favorite characters in my very favorite Star WARS movie.
This is written to the host, American Ben, with the assumption that you are the writer.
Because,
this is a beautifully written piece. One of those essays where you can close your eyes and pull a line or phrase worth pulling. Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching and for your kind words!
Death is rather permanent he said, completely ignoring the return of palpetine
I like it had the laugh a bit
Loved both of these characters. Thanks alot for this one Ben. Good man
The biggest tragedy about these two awesome characters are that they were only in part of one movie. They'd have been great in multiple films.
Martial arts is strong
But *BULLET IS STRONGER*!
And nukes are even stronger!
@@SIedgeHammer83 and Death Stars are even stronger!
I cried when chirrut imwes and blaze Malbus's died. It was so sad.
Jeez man, this is a brilliant breakdown.
Even Chirut and Baze has a better character developed than all characters in the new sequel trilogy
So stormtrooper armour is not only useless against Ewok arrows and bolas and rocks [your other channel]… but against wooden staffs?
Solid armor is vulnerable to blunt damage.
The armor is fine. It's the humanoid inside that receives the damage. I bet most of these downed storm troopers aren't dead but unconscious.
Storm Trooper armor is designed to make the wearer more likely to die. After all, a dead Trooper is a lot cheaper than a wounded one.
I mean, what's even more expensive is training a soldier
@@AlexKasper Yea that is what i mean. Blunt damage are not necessarily damage the armor to knock out the wearer
Very good. I really liked these guys and I really liked their story and I enjoyed this. I agree with your take on this.
I agree that he didn't need to use the force to know it.
The 2 halves of one soul idea seems about right with them. Being of 2 minds but one heart
Great vídeo again, Ben! Amazing intro. A Big hug to you.
*hug*😁
Weirdly emotional and what a question to end on. Deep to me.
Chirrut seems to be at least force sensitive if not having force wielding abilities. However the relationship between Chirrut and Baze has almost an Odd Couple vibe to it, albeit until the end. Seeing the death of Chirrut and the salvation of Baze was one of the best parts of the entire movie in addition to the saddest. 😢
Awesome job! I needed this today. Thanks.
You got it Barnett!
I like how chirrut breaks a storm trooper's foot then ask "is your foot alright?" Then just kills him.
Never hurt to be polite
And another great video! But tell me, my friend, when did you become such a well-spoken poetic philosopher?? I like it!
Outstanding insight into two of my favourite star wars characters. Thanks Man. 👍
They need to find a way to get him on The Mandalorian.
YESSS!!
Sorry to say -- he is kinda dead at this point...
Yeah, there's a slight issue...
I think Donnie Yen is too busy for more Star War films. I was reading Yen was the only actor (new to Star War) a team went out of their way to recruit for the role. Also, didn't Rogue One took place before the Mandalorian?
@@steak5599 yeah it did... That's why I said find a way 😢
Chirrut and baze two of the best characters in rogue one.
Fantastic job!
great video! keep it up!
Wow 👏 that was kinda deep dude.
Too bad none of the Rebels in that Hall way with Vader had belief in the FORCE... ☠😂👍
Wish I could give two thumbs up. Great job.
Well written & read.
Never ever thought about this
Awesome video, #1: Return of the Jedi, #2: Rogue one, great analysis of the characters. I like how connect that combined, they make one whole person.
As we keep adding to the Star Wars movie compendium, I find myself thinking of the whole collection like the Beatles or Led Zeppelin discographies. As I age, my favorite song from each band changes. Not long ago, it was 'Yesterday' and 'Black Dog,' but then it was 'Eleanor Rigby' and 'Fool In The Rain,' and then it was 'Happiness is a Warm Gun' and 'When the Levee Breaks.' For so long, my favorite Star Wars movie was 'A New Hope,' but then it was 'Empire Strikes Back,' and now it has become 'Rogue One.'
Thanks for clarifying for me why this is my new favorite. I hope they just keep making more to give me more stories to grow into.
"Salvation is survival for the spiritual!"
They are with The Force, and the Force is with them... that's all you need to know.
most underrated characters in the entire star wars universe ... and the best characters, better than any jedi
Love your video's
Yes
pure poetry
Great insight ....makes both characters seem as two sides of a single person...kinda
Absolutely THE BEST CHARACTERS since Han & Chewy!!
I didn't like the video... BECAUSE I LOVED IT!!!!
AND he's in the best Star Wars movie!
I don't recall seeing him in ROTS?
@@twrampageI think you misspelled ROTJ
Great video. This is, by far, my favorite Star Wars movie and it is probably in my top ten favorite movies overall. It really shows what you can accomplish when you don’t just wrap your characters in plot armor.
I was waiting for the snark but you went a different direction and it worked.
It is now time for some more 40K content.
Well that...was powerful.
I always wonder Is chirrut a Force sensitive person ? They are not like Jedi but can feel the force
"Maze Balbus" is only a couple letters off from being an anagram of "Amaze Balls" COINCIDENCE?!?!
You need a video on the top 10 most powerful mechs in scifi
Donnie Yen should have a star wars solo movie!!!
I find Baze relatable as I myself have become cynical and bitter via life experiences.
Such an underrated movie.
Good
Hello Generation Films (Both Allen and American Ben)? I one of you’re fellow human and fan of you're channel video for like a year now. love you’re video’s on topic in world of sci-fi and fantasy discussion them, do analysis their strategy and flaws both factions and technology, even breakdowns movies and series worlds how they in society. Also fan of humankind (humanity first!) how we learn and prepare for armed of aliens (not all them are firstly like E.T!). You guys maybe don’t have time or you’re do? Take fan suggestions for next video?
Well he my suggestion for one of you’re guys you’re should videos about a faction team in DC World/Universe or Multiverse? No not talking Justice League,Suicide Squad,Outsiders or Teen Titans, No! Talking about forgetting series comic book fans overlook and not talk that much “Human Defense Corps”. DC Universe it filed with many species (or alternative counterparts) Kryptonian,Atlantis,Amazons,Metahuman,Vampires,Demons,A.I and lots more but what about humans? Human seem in comics are weakness below all other species everyday they live in damaging events from alien attacks, crimes destroy city blocks or fear of living among with metahuman and Extraterrestrials
Here have been brave non-superpowers heroes like not Batman,Green-Arrow,Harley Quinn or Robins, but their are groups of individuals who don’t need millions dollars to fight crime or operation outside of the law! Here DC their Version of Astra Militarum,Mobile Infantry,UNSC and Colonial Marines roll in to one! It only six issues but seriously Generation Films you’re read Human Defense Corps (created by writer Ty Templeton and artist Clément Sauvé.), you’re going to love it! Lasting run from July to December of 2003 this is story about are true heroes! Forget Justice League,Doom Patrol, Suicide Squad and Green Lantern Corps? This individuals face non-human targets head-on with brave, courage and firearms.
Many Comic Book channel's like Comicstorian,Comics Explained,Variant Comics,NerdSync,Comic Drake,Linkara, AcidGlow, Comic Book Girl 19, ComicPOP,ComicTropes,Amy Dallen,Top 10 Nerd,Casually Comics,Blerd Without Fear,Matt Draper,Gem Mint Collectibles,Pop Culture Philosophers and few more to name, in comic book UA-cam community more who explain the history and discussed heroes like Captain America, villains like Joker, events and series but never talk about this soldiers (don’t need super serum or freak accident to be a hero)are more useful than Hawkeye or Black Widow! Not HDC they bunch of aliens lovers scumbags and betrayer of human race! Know you’re do videos on movies and series offten comic books but maybe you’re talk look a short live series “Human Defense Corps” give you're thoughts and what you're the characters and military group.
There's a third piece to this it's shown in the wider team and In Saul, and they are the third type They see the brutality and hopelessness and lose faith, but rather then submit to it or adapt they Rage against it in brutal savage fashion,
I love these characters and the general look n feel of this movie. I wish we could scrap this movie n the force awakened and use these characters n look with a far better story (not a knock off re-telling of A New Hope. Imagine 3PO arguing with K2SO. A jaded Luke confrounted by a hopeful Chirrut. Two gumpy old men with Han and Baze. The two leads can have their characters combined with Ray n Po. Baze can teach Fin as he gets his own personal mentor.
I do feel that we're missing out on having these characters as a blind jedi n grumpy old clone. Little changes but so much can be gained.
Excellent breakdown & synopsis of premise as always, only Aspie nitpick being; Of you're intent is Shakespearean inspired High English, the etymology reveals phrase should state, "Ill of hope", not ill with hope. Sorry in advance & absentia, O.C.D. moment.
People can bitch all they want about what Disney has done with Star Wars but the fact remains that they did give us one of the greatest Star Wars movies.
Why is this not on generation tech
Honestly, I always skip the dramatic intro speeches to your videos. They are nice, but kind of pointless for the video.
BUT I love the rest of your videos! :)
How we go will dictate where we go 😶
Make a video on how the MCRN Donnager could have defeated the stealth ships in The Expanse.
I agree in that that would be awesome.. altho i'm pretty sure the Donnie would have easily blasted those stealth boats had she fired upon them upon first contact, or if she had been on battle stations.
I mean.. she blasted almost all of them (all if you include the scuttling) and she was attacked without warning!!
1:50 into the video...is that an X-Wing?
The Beast Mothership from Homeworld Cataclysm
If only having "faith" were a path to finding truth. ...it is not. 🤷♂️
Your title spelled Sheppard Book wrong.
RIP firefly you died before your time
RIP Ron Glass also... Really loved him as Derrial "Shepherd" Book. :..(
Although I'm a bit confused with your comment in relation to this video.
@@nougan_tanker they changed the title it was best warrior monk in science fiction

Ben can you please go over the world/unverse of ice pirates?
I thought Sigismund was the best warrior monk in Sci-Fi
This man is clearly not an Astartes
He sounds like a librarian to me.

Aang is actually the best warrior monk in science-fiction.
If you watched TLOK, then you understand that it is more sci-fi than fantasy. The Spirit World is another physical plane, more like an alternate dimension.
Agree
ROUGE ONE is the best addition to the Star Wars saga since Return of the Jedi.
Disney ruined Star Wars besides this Movie.
No
i have difficulty believing a world with starwars tech would still have blind people.
I think he may have purposely chosen not to have his eyes healed because he saw his blindness as the will of the force (think Jehovah’s witnesses refusing certain medical care) or at least that’s my head canon.
Truth is that those two characters were added for Chinese market.
In my head cannon, I think of Malbus as an ex clone who isn't a fan of the Empires shit.
This video was an overly sappy deconstruction of an almost forgettable character... I loved it!!!
nah
Yeah
Me - Bleh, Disney cannon... but one of the best characters from one of the best movies they’ve put out. Okay.
Baddest gay couple in the galaxy!
