Also, to answer the question: the manufacturer will ultimately foot the bill. Driver will pay the fine, owner reimburses driver via a “bonus”, manufacturer will pay the owner. Not the specific amount: it’ll be in a larger sum and that’ll be included in the deal. The reason for this is because the manufacturer made the call. They know the risks, so that’s who’s footing the bill. Signed, we’ve all seen this before.
The reason that Austin Dillon and Ross Chastain are in this position is because Brad Keselowski is such a clean driver. If he had realized what was going on early enough, he could have, would have, given Dillon the chrome horn and maybe even passed Byron. In my dreams I guess.
That's bs .. brad if they were slowing brad after a couple of laps he would have moved one of them .. I see Ross or Dylan could have challenged Byron but don't think Brad was actually being slowed down. The only order really was not to pass or put Byron at risk. But at the end of the day nascar has caused or allowed this manufactures teams .. Chevy drivers all train together ford Toyota does the same. They organize to pit together on the superspeedways and I also think looking back why when a leader pits instead of everyone hanging leader out to dry 30 places back they all pit putting leader back in front. .. nascar can't have it both ways or some team rules ok not others .. like when Chevy pushed a Ford to the win and everyone knew the young guy was going be in trouble. Obviously he should not be in trouble. Something lot bigger going on than just 2 cars blocking

Problem is drivers like Ross, Bubba and Austin basically became Loss Leaders, Chevy/Toyota knew, Gibbs/Hendrick knew, everyone involved knew this could and would happen, but the cost was weighed way before the race. Personal opinion, now hard to prove, only way imo this would work would be to allow Nascar to apply this penalty without requiring proof. You penalize the benefitting driver also, you also hit the 24 and 20, Hendrick and Gibbs don't care about what happens to the others, they get in, who cares (Obviously this being either reality with or without the wallride, just ignore that for this) Sucks for Byron and Bell who had nothing to do with it, but it would deter the teams from trying. We have eyes, Nascar has eyes, sure I'm sure there's no "proof" that Gibbs or Hendrick pulled those strings, but we know, everyone knows.
Here are the fixes: 1) "Salary" cap / revenue sharing. This will force parity amongst teams, rather than letting the deepest pockets dominate the sport. 2) NASCAR should produce their own engines. This ensures, again, parity across all tracks for all teams. No more Ford dominating super speedway or Chevys killing it on short tracks. 3) ONE, that's right, ONE playoff race with the top 12 or 16 drivers. Winner is the champion. Plain and simple. Who was the best in the season? Doesn't matter. Every other sport does this. The best team during the season doesn't always win the World Series or Finals or Super Bowl. The season is to get you to the playoffs. The ultimate issue is stupid non-playoff drivers being there to play "spoiler". If the worst team in a league won the championship game, but some other team is the champion due to points or wins... guess what, that sport is going to fall in popularity to NASCAR levels. 4) Teams and teamwork needs to be emphasized more. One of the most exciting moments of this year was when 3 Hendrick cars back to back to back raced 3 Penske cars on the bottom, all back to back to back. That was thrilling. The teamwork, the strategy. Far more exciting than what usually is going on.
@loganferguson I agree with you on most of what you said. The only part I disagree with is that Nascar makes the motors. Manufacturers count on driver's making a good showing and or winning because it helps sell their brand of cars. I'm still not a fan of this next-gen car but I don't have any say in the matter, however I would love for ALL FANS LIKE ME TO EITHER SIGN A PETITION OR SOMETHING TO GET NASCAR'S ATTENTION TO DO AWAY WITH STAGE RACING ALTOGETHER BECAUSE I DESPISE IT AND HAVE NEVER LIKED IT. THERE'S PROBABLY ONLY A FEW DRIVER'S THAT COULD RACE HARD FOR 400-600 MILES/ LAPS AND HAVE THE STAMINA TO RACE HARD FOR THAT MANY HOURS AND GIVE THEM THE ADDED PROBLEM OF THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT WOULD MAKE THE CAR HARD TO HANDLE LIKE THE DRIVER'S BACK IN THE EARLY YEARS OF NASCAR. I'M 68 AND I WAS WITH MY PARENTS EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT AT THE OLD COLUMBIA SPEEDWAY IN CAYCE SOUTH CAROLINA WATCHING THE GREATS OF NASCAR IN IT'S INFANCY and seeing the same driver's race twice every year at Darlington and the got to meet every driver because we always parked in the infield at the dirt track The Old Columbia Speedway and we were in the infield at Darlington and when I was young, you could walk up to any car and talk with the driver's and crew except for Ralph Earnhardt. Of course, I was little when I approached the and he was gruff and ABSOLUTELY NOBODY WENT NEAR HIS RACE CAR. WHEN HE PULLED IN THE INFIELD AND PARKED, HE UNLOADED HIS CAR HIMSELF AND NOT A SOUL WENT NEAR THAT RACE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS RACE READY. MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN LEGAL BUT ALL THE OTHER DRIVER'S AND CREW WERE TWEAKING THIS OR THAT TRYING TO FIND A TICK MORE SPEED OR CHANGING SOMETHING BECAUSE OF THE TRACK CONDITIONS MAYBE A TAD DIFFERENT ALTHOUGH I DON'T KNOW HOW BECAUSE IT ALWAYS LOOKED THE SAME EVERY WEEK AND IT REALLY WASN'T ALL THAT DUSTY. BUT I MET EVERYONE WHO WAS ANYONE IN NASCAR AND AT DARLINGTON BACK THEN YOU COULD STILL MIX AND MINGLE WITH THE DRIVER'S AND CREW AND TOUCH ALL THE CAR'S EXCEPT FOR RALPH EARNHARDT. LEE PETTY, RICHARD PETTY'S DAD AND THEN RICHARD PETTY, BUCK BAKER, BUDDY BAKER'S DAD AND THEN BUDDY HIMSELF. TINY LUND, FIREBALL ROBERTS, CALE YARBROUGH, DAVID PEARSON , DONNIE AND BOBBY ALLISON, BOBBY ISAAC, FRED LORENZEN AND SAM ARD, SAM SOMMERS AND SO MANY OTHERS. BEST CHILDHOOD EVER. 🏁🏆🏁
Parking the driver, suspending a crew chief, or spotter is useless. Suspend the entire car for a few races....that hurts them right in the gut ! A driver will be replaced ny another, suspending the car really sends a message
Well, this puts a new outlook of pitting together as manufacturers during the super speedways,it's still helping your team manufacturer company, Nascar has opened all sorts of things now
Dale we need people like you to speak up to NASCAR on behalf of the fans and tell them we are done with this format. Majority of fans don’t want this anymore. This year has exposed how bad it really is, the guy 14th in points could win the championship, manufacturers manipulating races, and on top awful race control. NASCAR needs to take a step back this offseason and listen. Fans, drivers, and owners seem unhappy. Even with all the good racing and great finishes the drama of all this overshadows it. If NASCAR wants to grow and not lose fans they will address these problems in a meaningful way. Even if that means going back to an old Chase format, most fans would rather have that. At least that rewarded consistency and gave us at least a decent champion.
I think the goal of the penalty is (and should be) severe enough to deter but not more, so if it does not deter, the next penalty for the same thing will be more. Logical and aims at fairness.
NASCAR needs to have a meeting with teams and lay out the terms and outline penalties which can include multiple race suspensions, including suspensions from crown jewel or championship events.....and they should state it as if you hurt us, we'll hurt you.
One thing I do like about the FIA system for sports cars and formula/open wheel racing is penalty points. Most club racing also has this system. The stewards hand out penalty points on their racing license to *drivers* for on-track racing violations. Too many penalty points and you get parked. The FIA governing body hands out fines to teams and drivers for other violations. Yeah, how they dish out fines and penalty points is still flawed, but putting the penalty points on the drivers racing license makes for a more collected and accountable system imho.
The drivers didn't let anyone down, though. They did what they were told to do. The manufacturers got what they wanted, and HMS made it to the playoffs without so much as a dirty look for NASCAR. They're penalizing the wrong people here.
He made it because Bell foolishly decided to cheat as well in reaction to what Chevy was doing. Bubba started pulling up, and Bell divebombed the wall. Had the Toyotas not done anything wrong as well, then Bell would be in the playoffs and Byron would be out.
Any action that brings in the perception of cheating or fixing a race should be an automatic 1 race suspension (maybe more depending on the act). If it happens in the last race, you miss Daytona. make it painful
Just became a fan again of NASCAR after about 26 yrs, & what I saw Bell do last wkend was very exciting, & I think it’s important to allow certain things like that, the fans enjoy it. Can’t keep things 100% safe always, will ruin the sport, will ruin any sport for that matter. Btw, I was big fan of Earnhardt back in the good ol days.
They're never getting rid of the playoff format Get it through your little head in the format is working exactly like they wanted it to work You know the drama the storylines the publicity good or bad The TV ratings. The way to fix it is you work with the manufacturers to end it
Facts Why in every EVERY other motoring sport it's Points based and Champion is crowned for most points!! Simple straightforward and the way any sport should be. PO NASCAR is ridiculous and many new fans won't be onboard with the sport because of this.
Yeah I don’t think it should be points because 50 points could drop one guy 1 spot and another guy 10 spots. Same penalties two totally different monetary fines
I applaud NASCAR for recording the radio transmissions! Race as hard as you can every lap, but don’t be blocking some car that’s lapping you, race them as hard as you can or want to. No Those slower car have a sponsor too and fans. Don’t need things like last week!
Ross and Dillon need to take a cue from SVG! That guy, even though he drives a Chevy, has earned my respect, and I am now a fan. At the end of the day, there is one person behind the wheel and controls what that car does. Not the spotter, not the car owner, not the manufacturer. Drivers should have had these discussions about what they're ok with doing behind the wheel. And maybe they have. I will say, Ross and Dillon do not have my respect. Dillon never did for many other reasons, if I'm being honest.
You know the the factory was behind this , two different teams helping the third team?? NASCAR needs to have a factory representative meeting and level fines on the factory
I agree with those saying suspending the drivers is the way to stop this. If I'm a driver and my team or key partner is telling me to break the 100% rule or any rule, I am ignoring their ass and doing what I want to do.
What happened with Nascar? There is a Blue flag often referred to as the "courtesy flag" as drivers are expected to move aside when they see it. If they thought Brian was holding up other cars, they should have used it. Nascar should have been fined..
That ordering a chip final 4 analogy was horrible. It's more like if I order a burger with bacon and you say sorry we're out of bacon. You better swap that bacon out or give me something else! Taking away without adding would be 🗑️.
As far as race manipulation goes, how does pushing a teammate/manufacturer to a win at a drafting track not fall into this? Drivers are constantly choosing who to push or block at a drafting track which seems like ‘manipulation’ to be under these guidelines.
What is Dale talking about legitimacy and integrity for? When in the last 20 years has NASCAR cared about legitimacy and integrity? This is a mess, but it’s entertaining, and that’s all they’re looking for.
Not enough, manufacturers will pay it with a smile for the drivers. If a manufacture is not in the final 4 then it might cost them big in sales, two Chevy trucks and they are covered lol If they are not in final 4 then they might might loose more in sales than two Chevy trucks.
Why the heck do you cut out certain types of language?! We know what he is saying! That is what we love about Happy HARVICK podcast…they speak our language. We are not little kids!
I don't know if this comment was made or not. This is something that NASCAR will NEVER completely stop from happening. There is race manipulation going on the entire race. Cases like teammates not lapping teammates at the end of stages, choosing who to draft with at the plates tracks, choosing when to make moves to pass or pit and when not to, etc. Like it or not, race manipulation is what racing is all about. It's about who can manipulate the race in their favor the best. So, it doesn't make sense for NASCAR to cherry pick which situations are race manipulation and which ones aren't. Heck, before the chase format, teams would enter extra cars in those final races to make sure their championship drivers would be guaranteed to finish where they needed to to win the championship, and nothing was ever said about that from anyone in the media or NASCAR. Just let the teams self police it. The rule book is already too big.
Long time nascar fan and I am glad Nascar is holding these teams accountable. I think the orders come from higher up and what happens if a driver doesnt follow those orders? Would he be in fear of his contract being cut or not renewed for that manufacturer for the following season? What would his reprocussions be if he doesnnt follow orders? We need to keep the integrity of the sport so I think something else needs to be done by Nascar. Maybe talk to the manufacturer and team owners and tell them next time it will be a lot bigger fine.
Tony Stewart had right idea. How about the Championship Drivers drive clockwise, everyone else counterclockwise. Survivor is the Champion

Well said 🤘🏻🏁
I would think RCR and Trackhouse should get some kickback especially since they got Byron in. Idk how 23XI feels as they failed in getting CBell in
Nascar needs to have a 125 mile qualifying race for the six drivers left trying to make the final 4@ the next to last race(Martinsville)
Here are the fixes:
1) "Salary" cap / revenue sharing.
@@teresagoodwin7458Those were some good ole days!👍🏼💯
Now a days, driver's too wrapped up in themselves for that!😅
Parking the driver, suspending a crew chief, or spotter is useless. Suspend the entire car for a few races....that hurts them right in the gut ! A driver will be replaced ny another, suspending the car really sends a message
Well, this puts a new outlook of pitting together as manufacturers during the super speedways,it's still helping your team manufacturer company, Nascar has opened all sorts of things now
$100,000 fine is like me getting fined $500! That’s not going to hurt anyone!
That's right Dale, I tuned into watch Professional Auto Racing, not some version of Professional Wrestling.
As convoluted as all of this has become it feels like Brian must still be in the background putting in his "changes and decisions".
Best way to punish the manufacturers would have been to remove Byron and do a championship 3
23XI said they changed their minds on the appeal
Do they really think Bell hit the wall on purpose?
That's exactly what I say. Nascar needs a system similar to this. Who wants to wait 2 days after the event to hear penalties.
The drivers didn't let anyone down, though. They did what they were told to do. The manufacturers got what they wanted, and HMS made it to the playoffs without so much as a dirty look for NASCAR. They're penalizing the wrong people here.
Absolutely. Mr. H Bought and paid for that final 4 slot. Hendrick knows it, nascar knows it, and so do we.
@@cbundy53ness Cry about it casual.
@@shaynejenkins446 How's the boot taste kiddo
He made it because Bell foolishly decided to cheat as well in reaction to what Chevy was doing. Bubba started pulling up, and Bell divebombed the wall. Had the Toyotas not done anything wrong as well, then Bell would be in the playoffs and Byron would be out.
Didn't penalize enough people actually!😡
Any action that brings in the perception of cheating or fixing a race should be an automatic 1 race suspension (maybe more depending on the act). If it happens in the last race, you miss Daytona.
make it painful
Just became a fan again of NASCAR after about 26 yrs, & what I saw Bell do last wkend was very exciting, & I think it’s important to allow certain things like that, the fans enjoy it. Can’t keep things 100% safe always, will ruin the sport, will ruin any sport for that matter. Btw, I was big fan of Earnhardt back in the good ol days.
If NASCAR wants to fix this, they can get rid of the playoff format. The fans don't want it.
They're never getting rid of the playoff format Get it through your little head in the format is working exactly like they wanted it to work You know the drama the storylines the publicity good or bad The TV ratings. The way to fix it is you work with the manufacturers to end it
Facts
Why in every EVERY other motoring sport it's Points based and Champion is crowned for most points!! Simple straightforward and the way any sport should be. PO NASCAR is ridiculous and many new fans won't be onboard with the sport because of this.
I love watching everything ur doing. When are you going to go to a cleetus event? He does do it for Dale?????
Im pretty sure its illegal to fine or discipline an employee for exercising their right to vote...
How can 24 be allowed to race for championship? He was falling like a stone til his two helpers appeared.
Because he didn’t do anything wrong
I agree with those saying suspending the drivers is the way to stop this. If I'm a driver and my team or key partner is telling me to break the 100% rule or any rule, I am ignoring their ass and doing what I want to do.
Love the angels and airwaves hoodie Jr!
The bell pass and the chastain pass were not the same either lol
They should suspend both driver and all the team . Guaranteed that would stop it from happening again.
“Chrome horn” I laughed out loud. I’ve never heard that before.
😅
That's been around since stock cars actually had chrome bumpers 😂
@ I figured so I don’t know how I missed it.
What happened with Nascar? There is a Blue flag often referred to as the "courtesy flag" as drivers are expected to move aside when they see it. If they thought Brian was holding up other cars, they should have used it. Nascar should have been fined..
You’re absolutely right where the blue flag nascar could have nipped this in the bud instantly those cars were stacked behind him
That flag is only used for lapped cars
why not do away with radio communication between driver and spotter and owner on points during race.
If we're going to have playoffs...2 races Daytona & Bristol, just 16 cars
Well Said!
Parking the driver isn't really enough, PARK THE CAR. No replacement driver for number of the car.
chevy ford and toota has plenty money pay for fines
If a driver sits out a race, he not eligible for the chase because he didn’t start every race! Would help this part of the season
Wouldn’t help this late
To Dales other point, I’m an old NASCAR fan as is my wife. We don’t watch the races anymore, we keep up with the sport HERE. Thank you
That ordering a chip final 4 analogy was horrible. It's more like if I order a burger with bacon and you say sorry we're out of bacon. You better swap that bacon out or give me something else! Taking away without adding would be 🗑️.
Appeals are over. First appeal penalty was upheld, then RCR withdrew their appeal.
👏👏👏👏👍🏼💯
As far as race manipulation goes, how does pushing a teammate/manufacturer to a win at a drafting track not fall into this? Drivers are constantly choosing who to push or block at a drafting track which seems like ‘manipulation’ to be under these guidelines.
glad they fixed the audio issue
Dale sure says "I don't know" alot. Kinda makes me wonder.... why do I listen to someone who doesn't know anything.
I didn’t see a black eye during Cole’s interview
13:05 Say PENULTIMATE dammit! XD
That word is so pretentious. Just say next to last
Why the heck do you cut out certain types of language?! We know what he is saying! That is what we love about Happy HARVICK podcast…they speak our language. We are not little kids!
Because Andrew has to because there is kids that listen and Maybe even some of the podcast platforms don't allow those words
What happened to the "if you're not cheating, you're not trying." point of view?...
SVG didn't follow Chevy orders, as relayed to him by spotter! 🤣🤣
Rick H sent checks MORE than big enough to cover the fines for Austin and Ross.
