This is really accurate, understandable, and informative. I cherish Van Gogh and sincerely appreciate a neutral yet empathetic explanation of one of his great works. Thank you.

for some reason when you mentioned that the cafe is now named after him, it made me emotional. I wonder how he would have felt to know that.

One of his last letters to his brother, said something to the fact that he knew his art was pointless and nothing and he was 100% certain of it. I think he would really be blown away by the fact that he’s one of the most famous artist on the planet.

@@nimitz1739I just finished a presentation on him, the quote was “ As a painter I shall never amount to anything important, now I am absolutely sure of it”
It’s a very heavy and sad sentiment to know one of the greatest artist of all time considered himself to be a failure.

@@qasimshamshad2815 Yeah I knew I was butchering it but he was basically saying the same thing just better wording it.

@qasimshamshad2815 BEING famous after you’re dead isn’t much use. It doesn’t pay his bills. He lived as a poor person his whole life. (So did Edgar Allan Poe.)

“…colors are more richly colored at night.” Van Gogh. This is true. The light that reflects of a surface the saturation of the color of the surface decreases.

I stared at this painting for 20 minutes straight. Suddenly things began coming out to my eyes. The shadowy figure was a bit disturbing. Also the dark area toward right began to reveal more and more. Crazy!

I agree! Van Gogh was such a complex, somewhat dark character, which really showed through in his pieces. Thank you for sharing your perspective 😊!

Did anyone notice a hidden Phantom like character back right of the Cafe where the person is waiting tables? It looks like the original "Dracula movie" Dracula with big ears, bald and sharp fangs and claw hands.

Could you please do a video on The Last Supper? I just handed this painting off to my son and replaced it with The Last Supper. Who knew it would have a correlation...

His last name was not pronounced Vavn Go but rather Van Goffe, he hates that the English always mispronounced his name, check it out, it’s pronounced the way it is spelled , like “enough”, it’s Van Gogh (Goffe)

When you're speaking English, it is acceptable to say, "Van Go."

Sadly (like so many people) you are pronouncing his name wrong. I love your channel and maybe that's why I'm dissapointed enough to comment. The Brits get it wrong too, but at least "van Goff" is a lot closer to his real name and at least understandable for people not used to the soft but guttural sound of the Dutch "G".
If you want to hear a correct pronunciation by a Dutch person, I found this video :

Huh. I'd always pronounced it to rhyme with "loch", but it had never occurred to me that the G at the beginning and the G near the end would be pronounced the same. Interesting phonics lesson you've linked!

Judas is one of the twelve apostles. So that theory really is embarrassing. Are you saying that Van Gogh did not know how to count?
