Why is that all the best opening narration happens in the 80s cartoon & animation? I can binge watch this again and again....my childhood weekday evening session after fishing.
This is a Japanese Anime titled "Techno-Voyager." The song has lyrics to it, but was made an instrumental for the U.S version of the show called THUNDERBIRDS 2086.
As I recall, this didn't actually have anything to do with the original Thunderbirds or Gerry Anderson when they made it. It was just a load of "coincidences": ITC pinned "Thunderbirds" to it and threw in some old music cos all the mecha have "TB" on their sides, a weird translation of "Techno-Voyager". Still one of the coolest opening sequences out there. And a series, in many ways it was better than the "original".
This was actually a really good show. It had great technological concepts, ambitious scope of plots and elements, and a good grounding in sci-fi story-telling. It is of course dated now but for its time, it combined [very basic] CGI which was unheard of for a cartoon show at that time. The characters were fun and well-fleshed out.
@Wipnum Yeah, that was the episode "Nightmare". Starcrusher, leader of the Shadow Axis [an interstellar terrorist organisation], took control of some the crew and control systems of a space colony, sent its artificial gravity crazy, and then sent the cylinder-shaped colony into a spin which increased gravity to many times normal. Great episode...
@SinnFein4ever Actually I think that was a script mistake. They are sometimes called cadets but they are frontline active duty personnel of the IRO who hold the full rank of captain, & command their own vehicles/ships. They are sometimes referred to as 'cadets' because they are part of a newly-formed elite team called Thunderbirds, operating within the much larger IRO, who pilot exclusive advanced craft. For lack of a better word, 'cadet' was (ill-)chosen, in place of something like test pilot.
I Videotaped this off of SHOWTIME cable in the early to mid 1980s. Going to convert it to DVD. It was only just OK. Nice for a Saturday Afternoon. Save up Saturday night for your date, and then later AKIRA, and GOJIRA.
"Combined with a dazzling array of vehicles and equipment, designed to specifications of the space-age technology of the 21st century" I love that line....i think this cartoon taught me to talk tech-talk :) Btw, anyone has a full list of all TB-x?
Beatrushx, Mandell's had all the "luck" get his series on DVD. The only one that's managed it was Galaxy Rangers - and that was after 22 years of fans like me passing around video tapes. Jewel Riders, I've only found a handful of VHS releases. This one, I wouldn't have even HEARD of if not for a few passing references from the GR DVD and You Tube. However, Robert deserves better. Let's say we try to track down the Jewel Rider fans and get an alliance going.
@Beamshipcaptain Do you remember another show that came on cable on time. It was about a human being looking alien living on Earth he had a giant robot he kept in a barn. I think the main character's name was Johnny Orion or something like that.
Holy shit, I didn't there was actually an anime version of the Thunderbirds. Also, I believe I recognize the anime style to be the work of Leiji Matsumoto if I'm not mistaken. The guy who did the Yamato series, or "Starblazers" for the English version.
im about to do 2 days in a charity shop that has a VHS of this, cant say how many episodes it is however (probaly about two) not DVD but I dont think its even coming out on DVD

Missing those days 🥰

One day Thunderbirds 2086 will be on DVD 📀. 😀👍
Oh christ, I used to watch this. I had forgotten all about it.

I remember this being one of the BBC "Broom Cupboard" cartoons in the mid 80s.

Wow, I never knew this existed before. Sounds like it would be interesting!

I remember watching this!
Had 2 of these episodes on vhs. I really hope i can find em :D

@BigVilFromWestPhil That was Johnny Sokko and his flying Robot, or if ANIME, that would be GRANDIZER.
@Tigadee00 Thanks for the response and info; it's appreciated!

i'm guessing someone saw the old thunderbirds and thought' hey! it's the 80's now! lets funk it up a little and make a tacky cartoon!
@Beamshipcaptain It was anime Thanks anyway but it wasn't GRANDIZER. They only showed it one time in the eighties. Thanks for trying

not DVD but I dont think its even coming out on DVD
I vaguely remember that, too. Didn't Shadow Weaver (?) strand the main TB-1 guy on a deep-space satellite or something like that?
I always wonder what's the title of this cartoon! I only remember the shuttles are cool!
Technovoyager.
Im sure that all the fans of the original thunderbirds find this a disgusting mockery that soils the good name
That title goes to the 2004 movie, Fox Kids Thunderbirds and Turbocharged Thunderbirds
MEJOR EL INTRO EN ESPAÑOL 1986
2086, isn't that the year The Simpsonssaid that there will be a gay president?
This is wrong.
what the fuck is this???? is this somehow badly related to the proper thunderbirds?
Cringe...
