Oh my gosh my screws did keep falling out! Thanks so much for the video. Your much better than the instructions 😂. I got Dad his first Australian Cattle Dog - they definitely need a job to curb their destructive tendencies.
You are very welcome. My dogs name is Aussie and he used to be very destructive. Hes doing so much better now. Thank you for checking out my video and you have a blessed day
I am selling my home and hitting the road as soon as it sells. Hopefully out of here by middle of August. I'll be making a video of my planned trip before I leave and there is a possibility of me going through MO on my way to Utah for a cabin build in September. Please subscribe with notifications and you'll be one of the first to know. Hardly anyone hits the actual notification button LOL
It was a nice video, but I have those vents in my house and they are garbage. After the sun beats down on them, the plastic warps and cracks. They eventually begin to fall out of the opening and they look unsightly. In fact, our entire neighborhood needs new vents. If somebody made them out of metal, the frame I mean, I would buy them in a heart beat. Any suggestions.
@@travelinghandyman That's a great idea, IF it's not too much trouble. I was considering gluing them in position with the hopes that by having them adhered to the masonry might help resist warping. Using those screws can put an imbalance of pressures on the plastic frame. What are your thoughts on that?
@@danseman1 to be honest I don't think that there is a glue out there that will work long term. If you were to drill a hole through the face in each corner and into the foundation you could use Tapcons to secure the vent to the foundation. It will never warp after that
@@dorothymartin8557 if you pre-drill the holes it won't crack. Use Tapcon screws to fasten the vent to the foundation. Wish I had a better solution with a better product on the market. Just haven't found anything like that yet
Nice informative video. Though, I really only continued to watch to see your dog. I have a soft spot for those Aussie healers. Sometimes they are too smart for their own good.
I would say yes. If you spend a little bit more you could find something made of metal that opens and closes on its own like these do. I live in the south so the plastic ones works great for a couple of years. I'm also looking for a better option
Does anyone know where I can find some replacement screws and nuts that hold the vents in? I went to a customers house and he had around a dozen automatic vents and several screws and nuts were just gone. I think someone before had removed the vents and lost some of the little bolts (slotted on one end and pointed on the other)
If you purchase the automatic foundation vents and they do not open and close when the temperatures change then you have a defective vent and you will need to purchase a new one
I love these vents, but the don't have my size. If they were to sell the parts so that you could cut louvers to the right size, and frame to the right size, that would be great.
How long have you been installing those? Are those made of metal? Have you ever had those ones fail? And where did you get them? I put automatic vents kinda like that in from homedepot and they suck. They all stopped working and now I need to replace them again.
The brand I used in the video seems to work for a couple of years. All of them are made of plastic now with metal Interiors. Unfortunately those that are exposed to sunlight directly seem to fail quicker. I also don't like Home Depot products because they are not typically made for a contractor. Haven't been able to find one's made completely of metal or aluminum. I have been installing foundation vents for over 35 years and the products seem to get worse and worse. The vents are used in the video are about the best that I could find
fats and mice can eat their way through that vent. You need a metal vent cover to put over that and screw it on over those. Here's what I am talking about. ua-cam.com/video/AJIrlPqkXMg/v-deo.html
Thank you for showing us how to take the old ones out.
@@terry7893 you're very welcome

They are all plastic nowadays LOL. I will usually rotate mine on my house when I start noticing them warping. I only get full sun on one side

Lol doggo sticking his nose in the vent
He's always getting into something LOL
Thank you sir! Great information.
You're welcome. Working on more
You're very welcome
Do automatic vents last? I’ve heard they are not reliable.
They're about as reliable as you can get. It's always good to check your vents every winter just to make sure

Can you put these on a vinyl siding wall?
@@braddavis8116 as long as you have a brick or block foundation with existing vent holes

Contact the manufacturer of the vents and they should send you the nuts and bolts for free
Can you install this onto a stucco wall?
You can buy you will need to caulk around the edges
What do you do when the vent is partially below ground level? That's the way this house was built back in 1968
A little hard to explain through.

Those vents are cheap plastic that will break down over three years from the weather and animals.
I agree but hadn't found a better option at the time
