I loved the video, you have a great help there, explaining the glaze and the forms just like a professional potter :)) kind of I missed the last piece with the lid, what was the glaze there?

*a professional potter* 😊 thank you! And that autumn purple! I don’t think I did say it, I was so excited for my first lidded pot!

Jess’s chun blue should be much fuller coverage. Did you check the thickness? The patterned dish is amaaaazing!!! I love speckled toad!! It’s soo much fun and gives such great matallic colors. Can I give you a little hint on making and using test tiles?? Make your test tiles much taller. I make mine about 3” to 4” so I have room to put 1,2,3 coats plus flux if I want. When you do taller test tiles you will see much more of the glazes reaction to texture as well as flat surfaces. And if they’re runners you only have the 3 coats at the very top so they rarely go off the tile. Please don’t apologize for your kiddos. You have amazing patience! The shalet glaze is amazzing!!! The vases are amazing!! Wow!!! Just so you know, as long as your clay is fully vitrified you can use your vases. The glaze is not what seals the pot. The fire and ice is amazing as well. Wow!! Did you at the kiln to hold or slow cool? I don’t remember if you said. Sorry. Your June big really turned out beautifully!! The skull mug is great. I love how the glaze looks over them!!

Thank you!!! I can’t wait to show off some new transfers I just got!! And it’s because I brushed the exterior on. Had I poured it on, it would have been fine. It is a bit thin but I’d rather thin than thick and crawl! It should be better in the re-fire!

Apparently I couldn’t see all your reply until I got home! Amazing reply thank you!!! Test tiles- maybe someday I’ll make bigger ones. I had just gotten this extruded die from little chip pottery tools.
You are 100% right that the vases are fine without the interior glazed I just think of how nasty water gets when flowers sit for days. It wouldn’t be easy to clean I wouldn’t think?

And I did do a 15 minute hold at the top of the firing with natural cool. I’d love to see some of those glazes with a slow cool but I want to mimic what I do on a normal fire.

That ‘toad cup’ looked like the pattern was just a bunch of mushroom shapes in a raised pattern underneath, no idea why that would happen but what a strange accident

Not a coincidence, it was made with a mushroom textured rolling pin! That would have been wild if not!!!!

I’m always to lazy to make test tiles. I also do it like you did and test everything on mugs 🙈 do you recommend having test tiles?
I appreciate your advice and I love watching your videos 🙏🏻
    Cheers Suza

The reason I wanted to do these tests and more to come is so that I can just have a bowl full of options and choose off of colors not memory of the colors. I will probably never do tests with glaze combos because well…. Laziness! But also there’s be too many to do! lol it’s not a bad thing to do! I just probably won’t.

It’s towards the end of my bucket. I did check it when I made it but as it’s run low it has gotten thicker and thicker so I have added water. I have not checked the thickness in a while but have done the fingernail test.
