Painting of the pottery sunflower bowl
This being a black clay, if I wanted the flowers to really pop I had to start with painting them white with underglaze. Then I could get to the color! This bowl took over an hour to glaze! #pottery #handmade #mayco

    Haha. I’m live, (don’t embarrass me)! My gosh that cake stand is atunnning!! GREAT IDEA of how you glazed it!!! I hate the backs of pretty much all of my dang plates and platters, some bowls, always too afraid to put too much glaze on them and I really need to remember that I can! lol. I think it looks fine. Omg girl I LOVE that pumpkin sooo much!!!! For mayco’s rose quartz I only apply 2 coats, but somewhat thick. Where it will pool I make sure not to add it too thick. It’s worked out well. I love your sweater mug! I love making them too!! I unloaded my kiln after 2 days of it cooling and just sitting in there and mine are “popping too”! Worst sound EVERRRR!! I like the handbuilt pumpkins better just becasue they have a little more to them. I make pinched pumpkins and love using them for glaze tests! For the black and orange mug if you have cosmic tea dust or mayco fools gold they look amazing over black gloss!! I always make my handles for 3 fingers and I make sure they don’t stick out any more than they have to because they get broken more easily and they also “take up too much room in the cabinet” is what everyone says! I’m sorry this “comment” is now a good size pamphlet, but, that’s awesome to know about the micro glazes. I just got some tests out of the kiln and I got amazing crystals at a hot cone 6!! That first autumn decal mug is gorgeous!! I love that!! And the pumpkin mugs!!! Who is the autumn spice by? Awesome kiln unload!! Yes my favorites are the sunflowers!!

    Great stuff Natalie! Too bad about the running transfers. Out of curiosity, did you use the clear glaze on the whole piece, or did you use a liner glaze that wasn't clear? I'm wondering if a bit of liner glaze may have gotten on the rim under the clear and caused the runs? Just a thought based on where the transfers ran. That flag platter turned out spectacular! It's hot here too, but such is life in the south! LOL. Stay well!

    So glad to see you have a video today! It’s so hot here in Iowa as well. Over 100 with the heat index!! My bisque load has been sitting in the kiln waiting to be unpacked for 5 days now!!!! Omg loooove that plate!! I have a alipcast mold that has a flag on it and I have the hardest time keeping the white white!! Please let me know how you did that. That cake plate is amaaazing!! Gosh it’s absolutely beautiful!!! What kind of extruder do you have? I’m litterally commenting about every single piece but, lol. When glazing, especially celadons, make sure to brush each layer in a different direction to help get better coverage as well as less streaks. LOVE the flower tray and mug. Are those transfers from Australia? The next tray you showed the left side looks more blurry than the right, to me. The bee mug is amazing! How did you get the drips at the top? It will look amazing with mop!! Omg the Moses mug is incredible!! For the snowflake that doesn’t have a hole you can use a bail on the back or there is a wire that can be used in the kiln and while it’s still wet you can push that into the clay and then fire it and it will stay in the piece. THE PUMPKINS ARE SOOO AWESOME!! I make pinched pumpkins and they are such good glaze testers!! Love the shapes you have! What an awesome kiln load!!!!

    • @PotterybyNatalie
      @PotterybyNatalie 2 місяці тому

      I love the commenting on every piece! 😜 I hope you get that bisque unloaded and glazed soon!! 🤞🏼 as for the white on the flag, I actually left it bare clay and just clear glaze over it. I watered down colors for earth concentrates and just let the water fill in and did a couple layers to make it darker. I do know to go both directions when glazing, but do I always follow the rules? 🤦🏼‍♀️ the extruder is a nidec or shimpo hand held extruder. I’m sure I spelled that wrong… the transfers are from Australia and so the shipping took forever! The bee mug I have a mild with all things bees, so it was from that mold that were applied. The wire, I have some that I have had only about 30% success rate. It is the correct cone wire but it’s like it disintegrates when being fired! So I not a huge fan of using them. If I can not then I don’t!!!! THANK YOU for this detailed comment!!! Loved it!!! ❤

    Jess’s chun blue should be much fuller coverage. Did you check the thickness? The patterned dish is amaaaazing!!! I love speckled toad!! It’s soo much fun and gives such great matallic colors. Can I give you a little hint on making and using test tiles?? Make your test tiles much taller. I make mine about 3” to 4” so I have room to put 1,2,3 coats plus flux if I want. When you do taller test tiles you will see much more of the glazes reaction to texture as well as flat surfaces. And if they’re runners you only have the 3 coats at the very top so they rarely go off the tile. Please don’t apologize for your kiddos. You have amazing patience! The shalet glaze is amazzing!!! The vases are amazing!! Wow!!! Just so you know, as long as your clay is fully vitrified you can use your vases. The glaze is not what seals the pot. The fire and ice is amazing as well. Wow!! The reason I wanted to do these tests and more to come is so that I can just have a bowl full of options and choose off of colors not memory of the colors. I will probably never do tests with glaze combos because well…. Laziness! But also there’s be too many to do! lol it’s not a bad thing to do! I just probably won’t.

    Nat---'Maybe I'm gonna like it.' Not once after saying that did I ever LIKE IT.... not once! Whatever it was, it never saw the light of day again! Save yourself all the consternation!

    What an awesome save for the chip and dip!! When you have a bunch of crystals at the end of the jar mix them in with the next jar you get or you can buy the base glaze and mix a bit of that with the crystals. The underglaze decals often say they go to cone 10 but for some reason some do burn out. I fire to a hot cone 6 -7 and I haven’t had any fire out. The pitchers are amazing!!

      I didn’t mean to hit the thumbs down!!! Sorry! lol thank you very much for all that! I hadn’t ever had underglaze transfer burn off either so I was bummed by that one!
