I think it's very important to not confuse the practices of a culture with what Islam teaches. Islam teaches respect of women. Most people who make assumptions about Islam have never even read the Quran. There are English translations of Quran. Many Islamic countries following Islam integrate cultural attitudes and beliefs with religion. This mix of culture and religion really distorts the true teachings of Islam. This integration of cultural practices happens in all religions, not just Islam.
@Benjamin Iota I ask you for the hadith in which you state. If it is not written in the Quran Benjamin and you cannot give me exact genuine hadith I believe you should read the Quran and become educated in what is written. Again, cultural influence does not teach truth.
@Benjamin Iota you evade my questions, first emplying that there are both Quran and Hadith proof, then only hadith, but you still give no proof, therefore I end this conversation.
We love that you show many of the nuances of a religion & a culture. Years ago when I was in college I had the opportunity to become friends with some wonderful people from the middle east. I knew that the news only showed one side. Thirty years later I have current friends who only know that one side from the news. I try to help them understand the nuances, the variety & the beauty that they will never see in the news. So glad I now have your videos to refer them to! Thank you! We discovered you a few months ago during the Hasidic series. We've enjoyed all your videos & greatly look forward to them each week. P.S. I was so impressed with Rola's commentary. How interesting to hear such a bright, articulate woman talking about her life as a Muslim woman. A pattern is emerging with all of Peter's interviews: we all have so much in common. I hope this series helps dispel the fear and negativity towards Muslims in this country.
She is liberal so she abandoned her faith. Islam religion is hostile towards Christianity if you read Muslim book called the Quran. 109 verses that preaches violence in name of Islam.
A little comment on your closing remarks. You didn't give us an angle "into islam", but into the muslim community. This often gets confused and can become quite problematic (maybe not in this case).
@@PeterSantenello Asalamuwalaikum Peter, I’d say there isn’t a way to show the Muslim community, but to do it the way you have and are doing a great job of. Come to the Uk, I’d be happy to share my perspective on my religion InshaAllah (not my desires) as an English revert, and how all the things this sister was chasing (like she mentioned, acceptance from society in the way she dresses and looks etc) are (some of) the very things that drove me to Islam ☺️ alhamdullilah.
@Benjamin Iota I think you do not understand the boundaries and obligations. in Islam having 4 wives is a limitation, meaning you can have a maximum of 4. different from other religions where there is no law on polygamy which means you can marry as many wives as you want. Isn't it clear in the verse that it is permissible to have 4 wives as long as you are able and have a reason behind it all, not only economically and physically but also you must have permission from the first wife, if you reason only because lust is indeed permitted by your wife? look at the history of the world or even the current state of the world, many have many wives and even dozens of wives. What do you think? I think this is a simple and very logical answer

I feel Muslims and Islam gets a horribly bad rap because of the media and crimes that are committed in the name of Islam. Muslims are very peaceful people. I have always lived within a half hour of Dearborn and have never felt afraid.
Not just the media. Many Muslim immigrants don’t assimilate into European society. There’s a difference being a Muslim in the Muslim world. Rola tried to explain best without any biases which I like. Many Muslims don’t do this and aré deniers to the outsiders and what I mean by that non-muslims
@Lilman Yellow there are also people who claim to be Christian that do the same thing and worse. People who behave in the manner in the name of their religion are not true followers of said religion.
@Farhan Ibn Mahmud Women can not refuse sex from her husband? I am Assyrian Orthodox Christian from Alberta, Canada and women are as allowed to refuse sexual activity. Men are not in control of that. That is complete patriarchy, not religion. We are spiritual being and deserve respect as humans, especially when it comes to physical intimacy. What if the husband is sexually aggressive or overly sexual. What if she is on her menstrual cycle? That is considered unholy. Also certain intimate acts are prohibited in Islam, yet some Muslim men engage in this. I have studied Islam and I know many Muslims, many, men and women do not follow their faith background. Everyone c as n practice what they choose but realize many religions are based on patriarchy
I lived in Dearborn in the early 80s and my landlord was a wonderful Muslim man. Every Friday night my landlord's daughter would knock on the door and hand me a plate piled high with wonderful Lebanese food. The part of Dearborn where I lived was heavily Muslim and I always felt very safe there. If I was ever to return to Michigan, I would consider moving there again.

She said she feels excluded from going into the mosque without a head scarf but her being a Muslim she knows you can’t pray or go into a mosque without being covered which didn’t make sense to me
So proud of this woman. Even in my country, indonesia, a muslim majority country, there are many people who dont pray five times a day. And this woman lives in non-muslim majority country and still pray 5 times a day. What a person

You are all wrong. And uneducated/ brainwashed. “the Hijab concerns only the wives of the Prophet and meets a circumstantial requirement in order to respect the private life of the Prophet. Besides, it does not represent, in any way, a particular model of clothing. The essence of this requirement aimed, mainly, to educate Arabs of that time to respect the privacy of people and good manners. It is therefore quite clear that the term Hijab does not absolutely refer to the meaning given nowadays as the scarf that should cover the head. The Hijab has nothing to do with any Islamic female dress. It is rather a symbol of separation between public life and private life at the time of the Prophet. It aimed to make of the prophet's wives Mothers of the Believers.” There’s ZERO verse in Koran referring to Hejab or scarf on head. The only scarf translation talks about covering chests and neck referring to specific clothing which Arabian women used to wear while NOT covering their bust! The entire hejab fiasco which has cost islam plenty of converts and has turned it into a butt of jokes in modern times is due to uneducated people like the lot of you who have fallen for wrong translations and propaganda.
Yes but hijab is a general word. Hijab is mandatory but the headscarf is a version of a hijab. Hijab is the same thing as modesty. Maybe you don’t wear headscarf. But are modest in a different way
@@alitubealt6185 no. Read my comment again. Covering hair for women is NOT mandatory according to Koran! Stop w your backward uneducated traditional propaganda. Tradition isn’t a law. It is not a religious mandate. Educate yourself. I posted the scholarly view.

It is amazing. Amazing crossing cultural, and linguistic lines. I guess I am a product of Detroit where we had SO many nationalities intersect all at one time. How cool is that?
I think it says more about a person if they judge someone for their attire than anything. I respect this sister and was just thinking how she was so respectful of others and their choice and speaking up for the Muslims, until the niqab comment. This was so sad to hear. For me, my niqab helps keep me balanced internally alhamdullilah. It makes me content with who I am and not feel like I have to seek the approval of others. It make me constantly God conscious and aware of my actions. A reminder that I represent Allah swt and His religion before myself; pushing my own vanity to the side and also protecting myself. Each to their own, of course. Those of my niqabi friends are beautiful, calm, peaceful, kind individuals - and if you ever have the chance of getting to know a niqabi, you’ll see for yourself. But that’s the beauty, you only get to get to know us under the right circumstance (for us) Please understand what this sisters said is her own opinion and she’s clearly been exposed to the cultural viewpoint of Islam as opposed to the Authentic Teachings. Here’s to hoping people are learning to think for themselves and look beyond what’s in front of them 🤲🏼✌🏼
Yes. Her opinion about wearing niqab is her personal opinion and doesn't reflect the true teachings of Islam. There are many Muslims who do not believe in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad or think his teachings had been misinterpreted etc..etc. It all comes down to your Imaan. If you really believe in Allah and the prophets, you can always make Do'a and ask that Allah will guide you in the right path. Allah gives us brain to allow us to think. I pray that she will come back to the right path one day... inshaa Allah.
Although Christian, I wear niqab (long story) and while all women, Muslimahs and non, are free to decide for themselves. I feel that many just don't see the blessings in wearing niqab, which is sad. I feel very blessed when wearing it, and as a recluse by nature, I love that it allows me to maintain purdah.

So cool! I grew up in Dearborn. There is definitely a Dearborn stereotype of a particular type of Muslim. I personally take every person as they are, regardless. As a mail carrier in east Dearborn and living in west Dearborn I see the spectrum.

I moved to Dearborn Heights 11 years ago from Oakland County, Michigan and she is spot on about this area being a good example of why immigration is good for America. I saw very quickly that we would not have to worry about empty storefronts and vacant houses like other areas who suffer during economic downturns. Even if a business doesn’t last long, someone else is quick to move in and give it a go with their ideas. And restaurants are thriving in this area when a lot of other places are suffering.

prophet mohamed mentioned.Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him
first and foremost one thing i have noticed is that the middle eastern people are less practicing MUSLIMS as compared to other parts of the world.being born as an arab doesn't guarantee that you would be a pious muslim in fact it is quite contrary. Nowadays people including muslims have come up with this MUNDANE logic that "THIS IS WHAT ISLAM MEANS TO THEM". people tend to forget one important thing and that is "IT'S NOT MUSLIMS THAT DEFINE ISLAM, IT IS ISLAM THAT DEFINES MUSLIMS".
@Benjamin Iota Vegetarian options, if you live In the UK, US, Canada as an example Halal food is extremely easy too get. There is many halal butcher shops you can buy halal meat from, however you'll regularly see Arabs going too McDonald's and other places like that.
There are many Muslim women like Rola in Indonesia. Many Muslim women here actually wear the hijab because of the trend, but over time they become comfortable and get used to the hijab. If you look at the 2000s, not many women wore hijab.
I love your video of interviewing Muslims, make more!! as Muslim women, Only thing I found in this video a bit less fun was I felt you were suggesting if niqab wasn’t a good American thing, when you say would u be friends with someone like this, and looking at them differently and comparing her with niqabis. Idk I could be wrong I do not wear niqab, but I felt I should suggest you to also have open mind towards them if we can be okay with people wearing nothing we can be okay with people covering themselves too. Thanks 😊
I agree, that was a little immature. I would understand if an individual didn't know anything about Islam, but that comment along with the wording seemed a bit off🤔🤔
I was just seeing that part when I saw your comment, couldn't agree more with you. I wished she could be more open about it as she is a Muslim herself.
He wanted to know her view if she would befriend a niqabi as she herself doesn't wear it. But her answer was truly disappointing. Segregating the niqabi just coz of what she wears is what people of other religions are doing to Muslims but a Muslim doing the same thing is really sad.
I am a Muslim from Pakistan & believe me, you are doing a great job by sharing awareness about Islam and Muslims in the US and throughout the world so Islamophobia can be countered with the reality check. Keep it up, Peter!
At a certain point, you have to realize that some of your values are incompatible. The US is a lassè fairer society, but there are many countries in which some of your rules are ridiculous and inhumane. Halal butchery shops are ridiculous. And I don't trust people that I can't recognize from their faces in the street.
Your video with the 12 muslims having dinner reflected muslims in diaspora. Rola seemed a little stand offish, about new refugees or women wearing niqab. There is education and then there is being open minded and cultured. Nice video anyway, good to gain perspective from all angles

As Muslim we must follow what ever Allah SWT command us and we don’t care what the people says.
Most Arab women don't want kids by black men
I think it's very important to not confuse the practices of a culture with what Islam teaches.
Thank you so much for clarifying this, God bless you 💖 Asalamuwalaikum

@Benjamin Iota I ask you for the hadith in which you state. If it is not written in the Quran Benjamin and you cannot give me exact genuine hadith I believe you should read the Quran and become educated in what is written. Again, cultural influence does not teach truth.
@Benjamin Iota you evade my questions, first emplying that there are both Quran and Hadith proof, then only hadith, but you still give no proof, therefore I end this conversation.

Asalamuwalaikum Peter,
I’d say there isn’t a way to show the Muslim community, but to do it the way you have and are doing a great job of. I’d say this is the viewpoint of this sisters lifestyle, and a few opinions, that’s it.
We come from all walks of life alhamdullilah, I’m English, for instance.
07:30 I see what you’re saying but actually, in Islam the mother is always the most important element of the family, not just in Ramadan 😀
And the most loved too
In Islam the saying goes that the gates of Heaven are at the mothers feet … we only get one, gotta love em while they are around!!!
@Benjamin Iota also the respect only extends to “their” mothers not mother’s generally.
@Benjamin Iota I think the answer is clear. you can look for other answers on the internet without malice and hatred in your heart

Just for clarification: Hijab is not a choice according to the Quran.
As a muslim: yes. Unfortunately people only hear want they want to hear.
Yeah it's a must, only certain people can see woman without hijab like her husband and her children.. But yeah, back again it's private matter if they want to wear hijab or not... I just hope they will stop advertise as if it's okay to not wear hijab....
From someone who can't change her profile pict....
It aimed to make of the prophet's wives Mothers of the Believers.”
There’s ZERO verse in Koran referring to Hejab or scarf on head.

But that’s the beauty, you only get to get to know us under the right circumstance (for us)
Please understand what this sisters said is her own opinion and she’s clearly been exposed to the cultural viewpoint of Islam as opposed to the Authentic Teachings.
Here’s to hoping people are learning to think for themselves and look beyond what’s in front of them 🤲🏼✌🏼
Your body, your choice. But some lunatics force the teachings on others
I feel that many just don't see the blessings in wearing niqab, which is sad. i truly enjoyed listening to Rola and you. What an intelligent and fun conversation.
I love her no matter what she looks like .... he never leaves prayer .. The importance of prayer because the first question from God when you die in the grave is about prayer .. Secondly ... over time with the act of prayer it can change a hard heart into a soft one can change yourself for the better up to wholehearted obedience ❤
So.much more genuine than the other videos
very interesting episode as usual Peter !, I really like your guest attitude she's very warm and intelligent too :)
Great job, Rola! ❤
prophet mohamed mentioned.Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him
Thank you Rola for sharing your thoughts.
15:18
The greatest real estate ad ever 🤣
I saw that and I busted out laughing. 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
😂don't get divorced. Just buy a bigger house.
first and foremost one thing i have noticed is that the middle eastern people are less practicing MUSLIMS as compared to other parts of the world.being born as an arab doesn't guarantee that you would be a pious muslim in fact it is quite contrary.
Yes I agree from personal experience with Arab and black Muslims i have noticed many do not eat even eat halal forget everything else
Perfectly said.
@Benjamin Iota Vegetarian options, if you live In the UK, US, Canada as an example Halal food is extremely easy too get. There is many halal butcher shops you can buy halal meat from, however you'll regularly see Arabs going too McDonald's and other places like that.
💯💯💯💯💯sureeeee...very true
Well said 👍
This guy is a legend love from 🇬🇧🇧🇩
what an insightful look into modern Islamic culture in America. Really enjoying these videos involving the Detroit area
Watching your channel from Malaysia..
Thank you for your videos Peter, you rock!
Thanks for sharing👍 Great job
There are many Muslim women like Rola in Indonesia. Many Muslim women here actually wear the hijab because of the trend, but over time they become comfortable and get used to the hijab. If you look at the 2000s, not many women wore hijab.
I’m not sure if Peter loved the conversation or food more at times, but it made me want to visit Dearborn!
Great interview as usual. AND you picked a great day too. That weather looked photoshopped it was so gorgeous...
Educational what you are doing, also need to add you got some balls of steel getting in some places, keep the good work and God be with you.
Going to detroit city itself is not safe all the time, Dearborn is good.
I love your video of interviewing Muslims, make more!!
as Muslim women, Only thing I found in this video a bit less fun was I felt you were suggesting if niqab wasn’t a good American thing, when you say would u be friends with someone like this, and looking at them differently and comparing her with niqabis. Idk I could be wrong
I do not wear niqab, but I felt I should suggest you to also have open mind towards them if we can be okay with people wearing nothing we can be okay with people covering themselves too.

Very sad, disrespectful and disgusting 👎🏻 🤢 🤮
I felt the same
I am a Muslim from Pakistan & believe me, you are doing a great job by sharing awareness about Islam and Muslims in the US and throughout the world so Islamophobia can be countered with the reality check.
Keep it up, Peter!
you call it islamophobia i call it common sense
At a certain point, you have to realize that some of your values are incompatible. The US is a lassè fairer society, but there are many countries in which some of your rules are ridiculous and inhumane.
Halal butchery shops are ridiculous. And I don't trust people that I can't recognize from their faces in the street.
What a blessing it is meeting all these people through you ! ♥️🌿😊
Thank you for your nice and respectful videos!
Your video with the 12 muslims having dinner reflected muslims in diaspora. Rola seemed a little stand offish, about new refugees or women wearing niqab. There is education and then there is being open minded and cultured. Nice video anyway, good to gain perspective from all angles
Agreed and she also seems arrogant and had pride. Her father educated her and they are academics. Oh and the people in diaspora are not educated 1st generation. She also mentioned Ramadan about calories and family time. She shakes his hand and sits next to a strange man. So very liberal.
@@taposherabeya7857 She's a second generation and in the upper middle class. Most immigrants are not as successful as her family.
@@bones6554 don’t care what she is we treat everyone with some sort of human decency and respect
@@taposherabeya7857 In a fantasy world you are correct but we live in the real world. She looks down on that part of the city and it's residents.
@@bones6554 it’s because her family taught her to. Everyone looks down on people and everyone looks up to people but it’s how you show and your actions towards it. Your right it is a fantasy world May Allah guide us to what is better Ameen
She’s sweet! I really like this series.
Praying 5 times doesn’t mean heaven is confirmed
Another great video! Thanks!
Love the depth of your interviews
