This is a must try and if you don't use a bit ,use it on all the metal on the bridal and it stays shinning and clean . Thank you for sharing this really worked great and a lot cheaper !👊👏
I picked up a Rubbermade 2 step at the grocery store for $15. Fast, cheap and easy! Fly wipes can be made by pouring fly spray in a plastic tub of baby wipes.
OOOOMMMMGGGGGG!!!!! This is such a great DiY it will help me save my money on them becuse those who are sold are super expensive. thanks for making this video 😊
Bits aren’t bad. People are bad and don’t know how to use them. The equestrian world would be so much better without them along with many other things. There are very few equestrians who actually know who actually use bits, whips, Spurs, etc. responsibly.
horselover _2018 "...bits are bad its like someone put in your *mauth* metal and *pul* you", ya sure lol it's all about soft or hard hands. And before you say I'm lying go find me multiple certified, educated, non biased, and proven studies about hackamores vs bits before you go saying that bits are always bad no matter what. I think we should use whatever your horse likes better, not what some random person on the internet says we should use and not use...
I just looked threw the comments and I'm surprised that no one has mentioned unscented baby wipes, there perfect for cleaning bits, along with other things (ex. Horse Eyes, mouths, noses, helmets and other tack, hands, your sweaty face and body after riding, and a lot more) and you can buy them in bulk for really cheap, I got a pack of 1,000 and some for around $15! Super good deal and will definatly last you a few years!
Heres a tip - if you have a bit with a bit of wear and stains on it from the tack room, regular table salt and warm water will get rid of it and give your horse salt supplements
Great idea, and very nice bit wipes. :D I should make some of these and give them to my instructor so the bits we use on the same horses frequently can get cleaned. It's kinda' nasty we don't clean them. But if I had my own horse and used a bit, I would probably clean it.
Does the peppermint extract keep the wipes from molding? I wonder if you replaced some or all of the water with alcohol if that would be better for storage? Plus it would disinfect the bit :)
Hi Lisa I watch your Chanel every day. A video request for u is. DIY saddle cover. I have a new saddle and can not find one that will fit and keep saddle covered this will be so help full. Xoxo Allison
This sparked an idea of how I will clean my bits. Spray bottle filled with water and peppermint essential oil and clean rags. Perhaps less waste and even cheaper?!
If I just use water, with nothing in it, would it get gross and mold? My horses are pretty picky, they don't like mint/peppermint stuff, and I think if I got extracts or mouthwash flavor/residue on their bit they wouldn't like it at all. And one of my bits has a copper mouthpiece, so I feel like that's already sort of flavored. Any ideas would be appreciated! 😊thanks!
I know this is an old coment, but you could try unscented baby wipes, I've used them on a lot of picky horses and not one of them fussed about a taste.
Natasha Theriault I think that is smart but apple cider vinegar could sometimes leave a gross taste after using it. And when you use it again it might be gross tasting in the horses mouth
Would it be easier to just use a bottle of disinfectant mouthwash? The $1 store knock off brand of Listerine... I will have to try it. The $1 store also has washcloths that could be used a few times and then washed, cutting down waste and cost. $3 for washcloth, container and mouthwash. ✔ Done
not every horse is able to ride bitless! i want to see you riding bitless with a huge draft or a saasy mare! i try to ride in libery with my horse but sometimes she's impossible to control!
Rēzija Dombrovska I don't ride anymore as I disagree with bits, you could perhaps use a rubber bit at shows? And no bit is gentle even if you have "soft hands"

*grabs a regular paper towel and cleans bit*

Thanks so much!! I swear we all need to meet up, have wine and come up with neat DIY ideas!
Now that would be a fun time wouldn't it!
These would make great barn mate gifts if you board your horse.
That is a great idea!
There's only 2 comments and one of them is someone saying bits are bad 😂 equestrian problems
Spicy Memers yeah because bits are bad.
Prove it lol

Peppermint schnapps perhaps, lol.

Ill have to try this with some viva paper towels I have since those are pretty strong to.
Does the mint extract actually do anything? Like disinfecting the bit, or does it have cleaning properties?
Love this i love your channel😊 i want to try this but I dont use bits
I use bit wipes to clean horses teeth lol! They're sooo expensive in the store so this will be amazing! Thank you
They are SOOOO expensive! But now you can make your own for pennies!🙂
Can vanilla extract be used when making but wipes?
would the scent make the horse take the bit easier?
I believe so, as long as your horse likes peppermint 😊
If I just use water, with nothing in it, would it get gross and mold? I would of used apple cider vinegar and water. 50/50 solution
But I don't use bits so idk.

You dont use a bit? YES A SMART EQUSTRIAN xD
That would woutk but i dont use bits
Chloe Theriault me too my mare doesn't like peppermint but my gelding loves it so? Equestrian problems

A how to lunge a horse video would be great too!!
You got it Micheala! 🙂🙂🙂
But the water will go bad after a couple of weeks
I fell into a worm hole. It's now 2006. My tiny brain is melting..
Triforce Master m
i love your channel
Thank you!!!! 😊😊😊
The Budget Equestrian 😘😘😘
Is it possible to use horse friendly disinfectant to clean the bit instead of peppermint?
I haven't found any disinfectant that a horse would like to have in his mouth, even if it is safe.
And they are compostable! You can just throw them out with the manure.
*cough* just wet a rag *cough cough*
This isn't meant to be mean but if you didn't use a bit you wouldn't have to make wipes. I love your channel though!
not every horse is able to ride bitless! i want to see you riding bitless with a huge draft or a saasy mare! i try to ride in libery with my horse but sometimes she's impossible to control!
Rēzija Dombrovska If you can control your horse in a halter you can ride in one :)
Rēzija Dombrovska I don't ride anymore as I disagree with bits, you could perhaps use a rubber bit at shows? And no bit is gentle even if you have "soft hands"
How in the world would you manage to ride a OTTB fresh off the track? Yeah ok.
MsDailyGlitter without pain :)
I hate bits bits are bad but good idea
