Hunting Elk At Age 73! | Wyoming Late Season Elk (Amazon Episode)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Randy Newberg is joined by his uncle Larry on a late season elk hunt in Wyoming. Larry has had some serious health issues the last few years, so much so that his doctor didn't allow him to do this hunt last season. This year, he got the go-ahead to go elk hunting, but Randy is determined to make sure he doesn't push himself too hard but still be able to fill his elk tag with a public land bull elk.
They spend their time driving roads across the prairie and hiking ridges to glass for herds of late season elk. There isn't any trouble locating elk, the challenge is finding one that is accessible enough for Larry to get within shooting distance.
They locate a herd of bulls that Larry things he can get get to. So they park and make a stalk up to a ridge that should give them a reasonable shot. Slowly, making their way Larry is able to get into position but has a difficult time finding the correct bull in his crosshairs. He pulls the trigger, but the hunt surely doesn't end as expected.

Randy I just had my wife watch this video because your uncle Larry reminds me of my cousin. She pointed out to me that this hunt was nearly identical to ours last year here in Montana. We were hunting a small chunk of state ground and the elk were on the edge of private. I looked the main herd over from right to left being the right side of the herd was closest to the boundary. I managed to get to the left side of the herd and there was a big 7 point bull. The herd was getting nervous and I didn't look the few stragglers over that were even farther left. I told my wife there is a big bill on the left side of the herd and as I watched through my scope I noticed a small bull appear in the upper left portion of my glass. As I noticed him her rifle went off and she to shot the smaller bull. No matter what it is one special memory.
Fun time!! When is the last time you saw an elk go down that hard? A very, very special hunt, for sure.
Congratulations Randy for a great video sharing a great story of love of hunting and your Uncle Larry. I applaud and salute you as a real champion of hunting. Thank you for giving me your favorite quote for my new book THE LOVE OF HUNTING also available on Amazon.com.
Can you release a “Best of Uncle Larry - Unfiltered” Video?
I loved the censored part because it is so real for us hunters.
Great story for Larry and you Randy. Just remember guys like us are just around the corner. Glad I have family that keeps it going and you to!
One of the best most humbling guys out there, thanks for staying you randy

Also, just let me man swear, for ******** sake! :D
Randy, thank you for this story. Us older folks surely need young passionate, hunters to help us see one more adventure.
I have watched this episode several times on amazon... great hunt and good memories! Thanks for adding in the last few minutes of the true f@#*kin bleeeeep Uncle Larry. I laughed for several minutes!
Those last couple minutes....tears down my face. As an old Soldier, I approve! F*&$K it all! LOL
Love the "Uncle Larry" hunt. He's such a character and it was a joy to see how appreciative he was for his elk, even if it was the "wrong one." Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed that hunt and your Uncle Larry was making my ribs hurt.
Such a great hunt and time for you two. Uncle Larry is hilarious because he doesn't give "censored"!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The world would be a better place with more Uncle Larry's.
How did I miss that on the previous releases? "Hot damn said the ram, when he saw the ewe turn." Love the Uncle Larry out-takes at the end. A perfect shot on the wrong elk. Gotta love it. Carry on Uncle Larry...
I watched this awhile back and it's still great feeling to watch and pretty darn funny to boot. I've always wanted to do this with my dad, but money has always been a problem, so I'll just enjoy these videos you put out Randy, thank you!
I deer hunted in -11 degrees and 20 mile an hour wind in a tree stand. Had halofil plus 4 layers but still froze to death. The worst part is my partner made a bad shot on a deer and we ended up tracking all night in that weather trying to find the deer. We did find it 2 days later and it took 4 of use to peel it off the ground. lol Never going to do that again. Nice video thanks.
Wow!!what a great video.Uncle larry is tops.I’m 72 and my wife is 66 and we still love to get out there although “ out there is not near so far as it used to be.We still enjoy being out in the woods seeing our wonderful wildlife.Thank you randy for sharing all your adventures.
Great Story as always! I actually said to myself " I can't believe how composed Larry kept after realizing he shot the wrong bull. I would have been cursing up a storm at myself"...... And then the bloopers hit. And I felt normal again HAHA
Oh that video was great , I love watching Randy's adventure s , someday I'd love a Trip like that one 👍
was funny as #@$^%$#%^. God bless Larry and you to pal cant get enough of your videos.
Wow, that`s amazing. 😍
A bit funny, a bit touching and a whole lot of great! 👌
I hope that I`ll still be making videos at that age, or even hunting for that matter.
This was awesome to watch, thanks guys!
A lot of your videos are my favorite. This is another. Before Covid-19, I was at one of the last RMEF banquets before everything was being cancelled. End of February, I went to the RMEF banquet in Eagle CO. I happened to win an auction for a drop camp elk hunt for 2. I immediately spoke to the outfitter and told them 3 of us are going. Me, my uncle and dad. My dad is 74. My uncle is 63. Both veterans. Well... Next September, we got a 5 day archery elk hunt in the the Flat Tops of CO planned. Horseback, wall tent and all the amenities you would want. If in my life, I ever harvest 1 elk, or in a party that harvests 1 elk... Please let it be this one. This trip will never happen again. Like you said in the beginning, it's the 1 hunt I am looking forward to the most and also keeping me up. Hope to see you and uncle Larry again on a hunt this season. I truly enjoy your hunts with your family.
Randy this was one of your best yet and your uncle Larry is hilarious! The bloopers were awesome hahaha.
"Shoot the second one from the left with his head down." On second thought, all twelve of them have their heads down. Perhaps Randy should have specified "your military left."
Uncle Larry is a hoot!
Randy you’re a great man! Even I laughed with you guys on Larry shooting the wrong elk.
This story will be told for years.. now this is a hunting stories! Thanks Randy for the video
I love Uncle Larry! My stomach hurts from laughing so much at this episode. Thanks for another awesome episode Randy and Uncle Larry!
How can three people dislike this experience? Congratulations Mr. Larry🙌🏾
That was a great video Randy
I just can’t watch this video too many times. This is top 5 all time randy videos. I laugh out loud everytime he shoots that elk. 😂😂😂 amazing shot and amazing chemistry between the two of you. I sure hope uncle Larry is doing good and I’m glad you two got to go on this hunt together
I watched the day by day last fall, and was excited this morning to see it was the uncle Larry elk hunt! You gotta love the cussin old guy!!
Hey Randy hope you're feeling well I hope to see you in the field in the future love the past moments hunts last time we saw you in the field you have serious issues with your liver hope all is well
thank you!!! That captures the true essence of being out there, creating memories with the people who hold a place in your heart.
The hunts are always great but the memories we have, especially the ones of the hunts with friends and family, are priceless. Thank you for sharing your uncle with all of us, he is definitely one of a kind! I enjoyed this very much!!
Great story
Awesome!!!
Wow! What a great video. Uncle Larry is my hero.
Glad you take him Randy. And that's all I will say.
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Uncle Larry hit the wrong *censored* bull god *censored*!!! He was aiming at the wrong *censored* left side of the *censored* herd!! By the way, 10 degrees with a 30 mph wind is *censored* cold or about -12°f.
Hellyea at 73 I hope I can do what you did. Ecstatic is an understatement! What’s for dinner....BACKSTRAP! Dang that looked cold! Randy your laugh and smile is infectious thanks for the post.
Great video.....We were all watching the big 6x6.....second from the left and it even seemed to look hit at the shot. LOL. Congrats on a great bull anyway, Larry!
That hurts. Didn't Uncle Larry curse a lot on the original version? You kept telling him "You can't curse on here." I laughed through the entire episode! You must have edited this. Uncle Larry is the best! I'm praying for him.
Man watching this just reminds me of when me and my father go out hunting and his is 76. I do realize how blessed that my father can still hunt. I dread the day help tells me he can’t anymore. For this reason I will never miss a hunt with him.
Uncle Larry is my kind of guy.As a retired truck driver I know how hard it is to try and remain cool in public.I will be seventy three this november and still love to get out and hunt.Luckily my wife is a little younger than I and likes to hunt also so that helps.Keep up the good work Randy and take care of the ones you care for.Larry I would sure like to meet you sometime and have a cup or two.I thought I saw you one time at a Wyoming game and fish meeting in Sheridan in ‘16 or ‘17 but wasn’t sure.Anyway happy hunting.
Uncle Larry just gets me haha, love this episode
That was one of the best and most awesome hunts. I mean you take Uncle Larry on a very cherished and meaningful hunt. You spot a stockyard full of elk. Then the shot and I was watching the one you spotted on and was following him. Till the replay of that Still Nice elk just went down I was so happy for Larry. Great looking elk still but what a shot. Fell like a rock. Then the final touch of Larry censored and I then see all the real. You and Larry and the way you two go back. It really shows how close you guys or and what it means to you and to Larry. What a hunt.
As good as this hunt was. The last part was awesome! “Beep” “beep” “beep” “beep” “beep”
Randy....enjoyed your hunt with Larry. Had to laugh with the fact that he shot the wrong bull elk LOL, but great shot on another one that he himself was targeting. He really did great ! How old are you Randy? Just am curious on when people actually quit hunting. Billy / Albq.
Man this is grand! Hunter shoots and smokes Elk, Randy says you shot the wrong one. Well actually he shot the right one because that’s the he had the cross hairs on 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha LOVE IT! good job Larry. GREAT SHOT. wrong one but its the right one once its down!
At 73 if it's a legal bull then it's not the wrong one. Any bull on the ground is good. This is my favorite one of all your videos only because I'm in the same category and age as uncle Larry. Being disabled has some perks for hunters in some states let's us old guys still get out and hunt. But Montana does allow disabled hunter's from other states to use the disabled status to hunt there. Just curious how is your uncle doing these days. Would love an update on how he is doing. Thanks for the great video always the best ones in my book.
I watch alot of hunting videos. And you have got to be my fav! Jim Shockey who? I hunt, and I hunt with the hubby and I appreciate you wanting to be honest and ditching the t.v
And the traveling trophy goes to.....Uncle Larry!
That is so cool! Glad your uncle could get out there and live the dream with all of you, and thank you Randy for making it happen. My best memories are of my dad! He started deer hunting with me late in life I’m guessing about 73, but I kept putting him in the tree stand and dragging his deer until 87. I sill have his first deer hanging on my wall, a little 5 point whitetail. He passed just before 96 in 15. Miss him every day, but I’ll always have those memories!
I hope I'm still hunting at 73. Thanks for the example!!
Hahaha you don’t usually see Randy getting beat up by the cold. This was good. I can feel his pain. That weather is harsh man.
I would have been happy with that bull. That’s what hunting is all about. My dads health went south and there was no more taking him period. He couldn’t walk in because a stroke messed his left leg up bad and his back wouldn’t let him sit in a wheelchair. I built a couple shooting houses he could stay warm with easy access and he couldn’t stay long, a hour if we were lucky but we enjoyed those short trips. I’d love to be able to take him one more time for the conversation but we lost him October will be 3 years ago.
The last bit had me rolling on the floor laughing. Uncle Larry is the GOAT.
So awesome! I hunt with my uncle & this video really touched me.
I never heard so many bleeps in all my days!!!! I’m 68 years old and I totally understand and get it. Ha ha!!!! 🤪🤪
His language might be little rough but he's not mean or insulting so it's not offensive....I am a little younger than Larry nor do I have the bad health he has but becoming really hard to find someone to with anymore so thanks for taking him Randy.
Hell he killed the nicest bull in the bunch. Perfect hunt. Best video you've done maybe ever.
Randy when I drove over the road I didn't care for Wyoming at all if the wind blew in the daytime it would lay after 6 pm
I’m 72 hunt with my son ,,going to wy this year for antelope loved watching the hunt with your uncle
The last three minutes of this have got to be the funniest thing Randy ever put online.

That is outstanding! At 62, I'd love another 18 years in the hunting woods! Many Blessings!
robert galletta Thank you! At 62 you should have many more years ahead of you. May Gods Blessing be with you too! Good Luck!
Great video! Just goes to show passion to hunt doesn't slow down with age...
Only Randy Newberg could have pulled that off
Hahaha that is the best one yet Randy. 🤣 I love your uncle...
what a so very get hunt helping this man, thank you for helping him
Randy you are an amazing person! I love your stories that you do for so many. God bless you. Larry you are awesome.
I see uncle Larry is a better shot than uncle mike but they both got the job done and that’s what matters
Great episode, third time seeing it on different forums...
as always,great stuff!!
There is nothing better than to be a part of the last few hunts with the older generation and totally unreplaceable
No one can say that Uncle Larry was looking at the horns when he made that shot.
This episode made me smile! Right on!! Good job Uncle Larry
Fantastic episode guys! Great job Uncle Larry!
Great hunt guys, love the family appeal!!!!!
22:35; A good indication of someone who knows what they are doing.
And that my friend is why you are his favourite nephew.
love the ending with the censoring LOL....
I have so many fond memories of hunting with one of my mentors, Ronnie Good (Gooch). We were not related, but I called him Uncle Gooch.... we were close and I certainly learned a lot from him- not just about hunting, but about life too.
He died in 2010 and I miss him dearly. This hunt and your Uncle Larry remind me a lot of him and our adventures. I am only commenting here because I noticed 10 thumbs down. How miserable do those 10 people have to be? Maybe they are not miserable ... perhaps they just do not understand the value here. Love your work Randy. I battle with depression and your videos always bring me out of bad places... Thank You.
Thank you. Hope the memories of Uncle Gooch make you smile. As for the thumbs down, we have some critics who give a thumbs down to every video. It is their morning task while drinking their coffee.
This one is my favorite. Uncle Larry is a riot!
Lol😅 That'll make that Elk even more memorable tho for the rest of your lives👍
