Thank you Mr. Narada Michael Walden for bringing great guests and let them speak! No unnecessary interruption although youve been around and have also so much experience and stories to tell. All your interventions are like a music interplay with your guests and they really get the chance to expand on their ideas, stories, etc.
I hope these two genius musicians realize how much this 61 year old drummer LOVES them both. Thank you from my inner soul for this wonderful channel. Peace from Detroit MI.
Narada and Peter. THANK YOU! This podcast is BEAUTIFUL, such a deep, honest and spiritual session. So connected. I love both of you. Thanks for the music. And even more so; thanks for raising and sharing yourselves on a level so way above ego. I followed WR ever since their first Copenhagen debut (the old and very small Club Montmartre - Miroslav, Don Um Romao and Eric Grawatt!!!!) in 1972 - which may explain why I got a very special relation with both Wayne, Joe and - way later - Jaco, since I'm a bassist too. I allways followed you guys and of course enjoyed all the great music you played through the years.... Those great moments of musical and even spiritual "highs" always comes from playing, touring and travelling LIVE, right. All the wisdom and sprituality comes from living "live", from travelling live, recording live and playing live over and over, again and again through years. Through life. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this beautiful podcast - because it is proof of life; MUSIC comes from LIVING music and sharing that weird kind of "brotherhood" that excists between musicians of the same spiritual level. THANK YOU, Peter and Michael for sharing those beautiful moments of you playing and "living" with Wayne and Joe (and Mowgli). Playing good music sure has a lot to do with being a everyday spiritual soul. We just learn about our own spirituality from life. Now it's time to share the wisdom we got and pay back to the next generations whatever we learned while we din't know anyrhing about "spiritual height". Having been musically HIGH through many years brought us to some new form of relaxation, right. And living with transparency makes it much easier to play better than always striving to "become better" by practicing. Good musicianship is not only about practicing. It comes from playing yourself. Its about living IN that spirituality of music. You two certainly did it. Can't wait to hear more from both of you. THANK YOU says your humble and grateful fan forever, Peter Rahbek from Denmark.
What a great interview and coming from two musicians I greatly respect. I loved the Apocalypse album and always will feel blessed that I got to see the Mahavishnu Orchestra at Winterland, SF in 1974. It was a surreal experience , musical and especially spiritual. I remember the smell of the incense before they started and it was like Winterland being converted into a cathedral of God while the band was onstage. I was impressed with Narada's drumming and his whole smiling persona and energy. "Vision is a Naked Sword" of course blew me away, with the big buildup and intensity. This was on a higher level than anything I'd witnessed. Ralphe was playing that Fender fretless bass, and both Narada and Armstrong together created an amazing chemistry for a rhythm section. I was only 16, had been playing bass for only a couple years, and it left me with a life long impact One of the best days of my life.
Dear Narada! What a great interview, what a great meeting between two musicians like you who have had so much experience! I am 68 years old, I am French, and a drummer, composer and scat singer in my spare time, I have accompanied the organist RHODA SCOTT, and musicians like Etienne M'Bappe, Guy N'Sangue and many others.. .a long time ago you and I had two friends in common! Two men who led the Sri Chinmoy movement in Paris and owned a store on Boulevard Saint Germain... While I listened to your albums, they often spoke to me about you! I love your drumming but also your albums as a singer! always inspired...I also know your foundation, you are a caring man, full of love and humanism...As for Peter Erskine, I attended three Step ahead concerts at the Nice festival, and I also saw him with Weather Report in Paris... I love his style too! You are one of my inspirational drummers! like Billy Cobham, Omar Hakim Ton Williams Steve Jordan, Harvey Mason etc...In the 80s I recorded 400 scores! from the best drummers in the world of different styles, from the old years to the more "fusion" drummers, I taught drums in a conservatory (I have 5 prizes in classical percussion and drums) and now I am retired but I still play a little and above all I compose music in different styles... Bravo for this video dear Narada Michael Walden, all my deep... and long friendship to you. from >>>ua-cam.com/users/shortshFKdry-KnQA?feature=share I composed a song in hommage to ELON MUSC >>>ua-cam.com/video/MzMZiYwecfY/v-deo.html / I'M LOOKING FOR A PRODUCTION FOR THIS PIECE! an other solo drums >>>>>AFRICAN LIBERATION >>>ua-cam.com/video/ag6t69wRS60/v-deo.html >>>facebook.com/didier.dagostino/?locale=br_FR
Weather Report came to Sydney, Australia in 1980 and played one show. I was never gonna miss it. A friend asked me to sit in on conga after the show in Kings Cross. There I was on these crappy beat up congas playing, 'Standing On Shaky Ground' when I look up and Peter Erskine and Jaco are making a beeline for the stage. And they were rollin'...like an avalanche down a mountain. Whatever refreshments they had after the show they were having...fun after work. So they jump on stage mid song and absolutely pounded the shit out of that poor little song. My mouth was open in astonishment as I tried to keep my little tumbao rhythm going in that incredible blur of notes and sound and energy. Then they were off in a flash to another venue... Love ya Peter and love ya Narada.
Two musical giants in conversation. 😎 Regrettably I have seen each of you play just once; Narada with the Mahavishnu Orchestra here in Vancouver and Mr. Erskine with Allan Holdsworth in L.A. Not surprisingly both performances were unforgettable. Thank you, gentlemen, for absolutely everything. 🙏🏻
Great interview. I really think Peter is on the same level as Gadd but chooses to fly under he radar. His touch, feel and choices when he plays are astonishing. Thanks again for a great interview!!
The Andy Edwards channel brought me to this place. What a great conversation. Zawinul loved boxing. Seems like he incorporated that mentality into leading his bands. Saw him live at Blues Alley. Will never forget it. I wonder how Peter compares Joe to Al DiMeola when it comes to band leaders. Apart from that, I feel a great sense of peace from you. Peter got it right, we need more kindness in the world. That's what you deliver. How do I start learning about your work? Which of your performances do I focus on first? I know it's a bad question but I am just getting out of the gate. Be well and please keep spreading the peace. Will check out the Omar discussion next. Respectfully, Your Newest Fan. JT
There was a time when Alex was playing drums with Weather Report and he had a set if clear vibes just like Billy and Alex was playing like Billy, seems kinda strange that Alex could get away with that.. There is a video out there, check it out....hm
