- From the get-go we are at the mercy of the relentless Icelandic wind. Riding into the Westfjords means breathtaking landscapes and vistas but also the seemingly endless ins and outs of the fjords. Wind & Fjords = Hard Work! After a brutal day of cold headwind we get lucky and find a hidden gem camping to shelter in the most relaxing and typical way...

We knew Iceland was going to be a demanding place to ride. It certainly was and still we enjoyed every bit of it. We are already talking about the next time we want to visit. A pretty good indication of having a good time we think. Do you have a place like that you want to revisit sooner than later? Thanks for watching & Have a great day, E&M
Food, water and shelter……. That’s all we need 😀
Haha, most of the time 😉 I love a movie or nice fire from time to time...
Вы такие отчаянные ребята,там ведь сильный холод.Настоящие герои.
That wind would have been my kryptonite
It was a tough one Mike! Hope you have some nice tailwind 🍀
Maudi the simple clarity of your narration was so beautiful. Anything you said in this could go on at shirt! Truly words to live by. E&M you are my favorite bikers right now.
Amazing guys, you are king and queen of bikepacking
Thanks for the nice compliment 😊 All the Best, E&M
Love your positivity, even when the going is tough! A real inspiration! 💕
Thank you Jennifer 😊 Wishing you all the Best, E&M
Headwinds... What can one do other than ride? You exemplified that, and with positive attitudes! I'm sure there was plenty off frustration (off camera), but you presented the "real side" of cycle touring, while also sharing how to get through the difficulties and appreciate the experience. Thanks!
I've cycled for days in wind where I had to pedal downhill but maybe not like what you had to endure. You two are tough! I bet it's hard sometimes to appreciate the beauty when your being beat down so hard. That heated hut must have been really wonderful. Great episode ✌
Sounds not to far of from our experience! Yes, it's tough at times but the good times far outweigh the downsides. Thanks & All the best, E&M
Awesome video and views are fantastic. Loved it!!
Thank you for sharing this nice video😍😍
Thanks 🙏🏼😊
Those winds were brutal, you guys really deserved that awesome shelter and the hot tub to recuperate👍I'm glad you caught a break with the weather eventually and those views were just breathtaking👌Fantastic video guys, I know that must have been so incredibly hard to film!
Well done
Thanks Paul 😊 All the Best, E&M
@@WheelstoWander 👍🏴💪
Ahhh the wind in Iceland... the biggest enemy while riding there. It blew me away, with my bicycle and panniers, from the road right into a ditch.
Classic Wheels to Wander episode! Great adventure and filming. well done guys.
Just raw beauty really can't experience it any other way then on a bike good for you guys keep videos coming it's like being there with you two. Namaste
Muchas felicidades y que sigan teniendo buenos viajes saludos desde CHILE
Muchos gracias Jose! Saludos, E&M
I know that windy feeling!! 😂
Love your videos.
Haha, good to have some companion 😊 Thanks & All the best, E&M
‘It’s just life but on a bike’: thank you for sharing your feelings and keeping it real. And thank u for letting us be part of your adventures that most of us cannot even dream of doing.
Blown away by this one E&M! 😁. Once more many thanks for a true representation of touring. Magnificent filming/editing,and scenery. Just wow!. Fantastic determination in very difficult conditions, and I agree absolutely it is like a form of meditation returning us to simpler ways. Tail winds! x
thanks guys, Iceland is not for the faint hearted, raw nature is humbling and beautiful
You may not conquer the elements, but you can flow with it. Awesome high quality video like always. ❤️
Thanks Mike 😊 All the Best, E&M
I didn’t think I’d like the Island video but it’s really pretty. Sorry about the wind. I see you guys picked up quilted jackets, just alike - you’re twins.
Nice! It is a very special place to be. Being Dutch we are used to a little bit of wind 😉
You guys are awesome! In spite of the hardships you will cherish the memory of this adventure for the rest of your lives. Hang in there and thank you for sharing your grand adventure!
Thank you for the nice words 😊 All the Best, E&M
Another amazing video. What an epic adventure. And Maudi, your words at the end-a sentiment that all cycle tourists recognize-just tied the whole video up in a beautiful bow. Thanks, as always for sharing your adventures. Stay safe!
The hue of the light inside that tent is really nice. I really dislike the yellow from i.e Hilleberg because of the light.
Thanks, we do like it too 😊
Congratulations Guys on another great video production. There's no hiding in those winds. Always heartwarming to see the love between you two. Take care.
Hey, what an amazing country is Iceland. when did you goes there? did you missed the volcanic eruption? i did a bickpacking travel in the south this summer, best holidays ever. Love your works, thx for everything
do your faces get chapped from the wind? what are you doing to prevent it? thank you for the great videos.
Thank you too! We have some chapstick for our lips and sometimes some we use some shea butter on our skin. It's not to bad for us. All the best, E&M
Who needs Netflix and Chill when you’ve got UA-cam and Thrill with Eric and Maudi, the world and the internets most amazing couple! 🥰. I started on your very first episode over Christmas and have watched every video up to this one. Finally, up to date! I’ll be anxiously awaiting every new video from here on. :)
Thanks for the amazing compliment Anson 😊 It is really cool to hear you are enjoying the videos so much! Next one in the making... All the best, E&M
This could be your most spectacular video yet. Wonderful stuff, thank you so much! I can cope with rain, but headwinds are the worst, really saps your energy and spirit, but you two almost seem to be enjoying it! Some great drone shots too - I'm surprised it could fly in that wind.
Food, water and shelter. Less stress. How life should be. Thanks.
Simplicity is a powerful key! All the best, E&M
Prince Eric the Calm, and Maudi, the Tower of Power. You need at least 100,000 subs - c'mon everybody! Click the subscribe button. Your cinematography is top-notch, your philosophy is plain and beautiful. I get to live more through you.
Thank you for your lovely word mr. Graves 🙏🏼. E&M
@@WheelstoWander and thank you for giving us hope here in these "dark 2020s"
I have always oorwarmers with me on fiets travels.
Ah, nice! We also like to keep our ears warm with a buff and/or thin beanie!
Beautiful is iceland😲...
The water, mountains and the birds singing...
Awesome video, why so much wind?
Cook together, it makes the togetherness more special...
I love to see the way and what you cook...
Your camp sights are beautiful...
I love your bike set-ups...
Always protect your face and lungs from the cold winds...
Wow, how many KLM per hour is the wind...
We did a bike trip of 74 KLM...
Thank you for sharing your cooking tips...
Something I wonder what would happen could happen if Iceland is ten times bigger and 95% of the country is useful for agriculture or to live there.
Not only that Iceland would still speak Old Norse the Viking language doesn't go extinct.
Iceland area: 396,820 population 99,000,000 1.26% of the world population
Demographics 99.999% white
Not only that I would love to have Greenland be more livable.
From the 900s to 1450 Vikings lived there but the land became more useless for agriculture and to live there.
I wonder what if Greenland is useful for agriculture and the Scandinavians/Baltics didn't leave Greenland
Greenland population 233,000,000 2.99% of the world population
Demographics
Non-Hispanic White 98%
228,340,000
Ethnic Groups
Danes 40% 91,336,000
German 25% 57,085,000
Norwegian 20% 45,668,000
Irish 11% 25,117,400
Swedish 3% 6,850,200
Other 2% 4,566,800
Native Greenlander 1.50%
Inuits 99%
Other 0.50%
GREENLAND CULTURE
Greenland is a Christian majority country and is mostly Protestant Lutheran majority denomination.
Most Greenlanders speak Old Norse in this fictional timeline.
Greenland is a agriculture majority economy.
Taxes are smaller.
The Inuits have their own autonomous community and need permission to enter like the Aboriginals in Australia.
The Inuits have their own education system and government in parts of Greenland.
Most Greenlanders have guns especially in the remote areas and the country side because of the polar bears.
Greenland recognize Israel and have a embassy in Tel Aviv.
Greenland still is Danish territory and uses Krones as currency.
Great video as always. Love your positive attitude, even when its grimm. Amazed you could get your drone to fly when it was so windy. PS my favourite places to go back to are Taiwan and France (also Scotland - some of which Iceland reminded me of)
Hello Maudi, exactly what you said at the end of the video is what comes across so strongly in your videos. Thank you both for the many beautiful moments, Bernhard
Just do Scotland with one less layer of clothing. You'll save yourself a fortune.m
In that area is it always that windy? Thank you
We hear there is lots of wind there very often...
That was pretty epic.
Last time I was in Iceland, one of the locals told me the country should really be called Windland.
Haha, Great name! We agree 😅 All the best!!
@@WheelstoWander Slàinte. 🥃
What tent did you use? did it hold up? (asking as I'm planning on traversing the highlands next summer)
You are a wonderful couple! Wonderful country Iceland and a wonderful bike ride. I have already been to this country and now my dream is also to ride a bike like you. Good luck on the road and new adventures!
I was so envious when you said that life becomes simpler with the focus being on food, shelter and water with the noise of the world being lost to your journey. Whether intended or not that comment was so profound and really gives bike touring a purpose👍
Please come to America and hike one of our long trails. I would love your perspective on such an adventure. I think that it would be a lot of fun.
Amazing video, loved every second of it. Incredible wind you had to face 😮 For me (A), strong wind is the most scary thing of all.
But the uphill with the tailwind was just mind blowing. Never experienced that ourselves!
Thanks for showing us Iceland with all its beauty and difficulties! Take care!
“ it’s just life , but on a bike “ - love it !
😊
Great edit job. Do you find the drone shots take a lot of time out of your riding time? I also love your map animations Can you tell me what you are using for them?
Are those e-bikes you’re on? Only joking, though they would be handy for that wind 🥵
Eric en Maudi, Alle vlogs van jullie achter elkaar bekeken. Prachtige reis die jullie hebben gedaan. Bijna bij de nieuwste.
Brilliant as always but that wind is mad
Thanks 😊 Haha, yeah it sure was! All the best, E&M
Well done, I understand Iceland to be tough to bike and maybe one day I'll get to try it. Keep on keepin' on.
As a long-time watcher of Wheels to Wander I could pick many things that make the channel unique, especially how you convey a sense of magic and true appreciation of beauty, where many just don't really feel those things. Regarding this video, Maudi's direct and honest words at the end are so appreciated. Great videos for lots of reasons - thank you both.
Beautiful video, love what you do....keep up the good work!
You guys are hardcore ❤️
Thanks 😊 All the Best, E&M
When did you film this guys? What month did you go? 😮
How do you keep your cameras and phones charged in these wilderness areas?
With 3 large power banks and the occasional charge at a camping (< in the case of Iceland).
@@WheelstoWander some photos of your power banks would be useful (or links to them). I think you made a video on this but I cant find it.
They are in our gear review videos. 2x Anker 20.000 maH and one 26.000 maH with no brand.
Les sigo y les felicito desde VENEZUELA EL ETERNO LES ACOMPAÑE siempre
Muchos Gracias Ana 😊 Saludos, E&M
Just finished watching all your episodes up to now 👍👍👍👍👍 Yes I’m now up to date 🤗🤗. Wow, What a bloody incredible adventure you both have done and still are doing 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪 It just keeps getting better and better. Let me say to the little lady, You rock 💪 you really do 💪💪💪. When you both get to Australia 🇦🇺 (Victory) Look me up, Your adventures adventure will start then 🤗🤗 Stay safe and see you both in the next video and Thank you both for the hard work you both put in to make these videos and travel around on push bikes. Your both just incredible 👍
Hi Tony! Thank you so much for your words of praise and the enjoyment you had with our videos. Australia would be great to explore some day. Best wishes, E&M 😊
You guys are amazing. I've also seen all your episodes from "cycling the world" and that was really amazing. I'm only 13 but one day, I'll certainly travel round the world too. Keep it up.
Groeten uit België

Hi Patrick! Great to hear you are enjoying the videos :) We wish you all the very best for your upcoming adventures around the world 🍀 E&M
Another superb video, what an epic adventure you guys are sharing with us. That wind was just off the scale! A wonderful closing scenery clip with I think Maudi cycling through a landscape that was just jaw-droppingly awesome. Great music selection as well. 👏👌
Thanks so much Dennis 😊 Really happy to hear you liked it so much! All the Best, E&M
Epic effort in anybodies terms. Thing is guys, nobody wants to see you guys kill yourself. We love you too much. When the effort completely outweighs the joy. Perhaps it be wiser to take a break from cycling and tour in a van. That would not be seen as a cop-out (slang). Just the sensible thing to do. High regards to both of you.
Thank you Glen! We are always careful although sometimes roughing it a bit. Van touring sounds pretty chill, with a canoe and some hiking gear :) All the very best, E&M
I bet the Vikings would have loved the hot tub? If this was summer, how much worse would the winter be? Stay warm.🥰
We hear winter is absolutely brutal 😳 Warm as we speak! All the best, E&M
Ah guys that episode was just magic. No words 🫶
Thanks Matt 🙏🏼 All the best from us!!
Just watch Sigur Ross’s Route 1, while sipping genever or a Trappist beer duh.
Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing your adventures!! The scenery is breathtaking.
Thank you Sandra 😊 Iceland is amazing! Best wishes, E&M
It is hard to admit, but as Italians we split the pasta as well, but shhh say no one LOL 😅
Haha, we won't tell anybody 😉 All the best, E&M
When I was a kid I thought if you went to Iceland you were frozen immediately! It still looks pretty cold. I plan to do this ride in the summer only.
Love that beautiful child naiveté! This was summer so we hope when you go it's a bit better... 🍀
If a Nederlander says it's windy, you better believe it's windy!🌬
😅 Haha, we have indeed now a bit about the wind!
I’m glad to see such honesty and frankness as far as the weather! I’ve seen other videos of Iceland, and although I know the weather there can change in an instant, it’s refreshing to see you just be honest about it! :-)
Thank you John! Your feedback is always appreciated. Best wishes from us!
Now I have no excuse for not riding into the wind. Let's not tell my wife about this.
😂 We won't mention it again...
The editing was brilliant. Your production is fantastic. I really see growth here over time. Thank You
Thanks so much David 🙏🏼 All the Best, E&M
Ohhh how happy I was for you when you sat in that truly deserved hot tub! As always, thank you for sharing your thoughts and impressions
Thank you Verena 😊 I was wonderful! Best wishes, E&M

Interesting channel and great videos! Best regards André
Thank you André! Best wishes, E&M
Weer een prachtige video.dat hebben jullie echt wel onder de knie👊ook niet overdreven mooi gemaakt ofzo
Dank je voor het mooie compliment Alex! Groet
Headwinds the cyclists nemesis , FairPlay for battling through. That was a great place to stop with heated floor and the added bonus of a well earned hot tub 👍 Stunning location with lovely quiet roads .
If Dutch people complain about the wind it’s bad 😂
😂
@@WheelstoWander You guys are the best of the genre. wonderful to see these places you travel to, but honestly that looks like one of the hardest places on earth to cycle tour
Nice to catch up with you - thank you for sharing (o:
Thank you too Barry! All the best, E&M
Hardcore cycling. What a beautiful unspoiled place, love it.I have to go now, although I'm not sure I'd be cycling unless if I get a recumbent bike with assist- camping of course.
Team velo ,your smashing it with this video series 🙏🏽
Great work & credit to you both and your stell machines fully loaded….
Wishing you good strength.
Thank you for your work 👌🏽
Hi guys, unbelievable, this trip. Although you decided yourselves to do this we really feel sorry for you sometimes travelling in these weatherconditions. Crazy. But....again fabulous footage of this magnificent country. In 2006 we travelled around by car and hiked a week in the center. Good luck Henk & Lucie.
Stunning video of the scenery. You really captured the stark, raw beauty of Iceland.
And those winds. I could just feel them with Maudi's narration.
Was it tempting to stay an extra day at the camping hut with a heated pool?🤗
Safe travels
Congratulations for you two brave cyclists for your courage on this trip! I am happy you could enjoy also some relaxing moments like in the hot bath tube!
Safe travels for you in 2023!
Nice great super perfect power boom wow... I want

Very inspiring.
Seeing such incredible sights that nature has to offer.
Got to take the rough with the smooth.
You cant rally appreciate the positives without experiencing the negatives.
Well done to you both. Living the life.
Thanks 😊 Best wishes, E&M
People do not come here for the weather :)
I have always advised people who come here for bicycle touring to plan for any eventuality and dont adhere to a strict schedule. Weather and nature will usually make a huge dent in your schedule anyways so be ready for that. Whenever I am biketouring here then I always look at the forecast three times a day and make adjustments where needed. Sure I have had to cycle through a storm but if I can avoid it, then I will.
Glad to see that you enjoyed your trip here and hopefully you will be able to visit again and explore more.
PS. I just ordered myself a fatbike to go on overnighters and short weekend trips during winter here and to tackle the highlands during summer. Hopefully it will arrive soon :)
That is sound advise! A fatbike should be great out in the wilds there, enjoy!! Hope to be back soon... All the best, E&M
I love your videos. I have done some very mild touring but not as much as you guys. I am not so young now (70) but always toyed with the idea of cycling round Iceland - I may manage before the ill-health of age gets me, but meanwhile I drool over your videos. Is there mobile signal in north iceland (for Internet) ? If I had my life again I would do what you are doing while Im young - you are also so lucky to enjoy this kind of thing together.
We hope you will get to make your dream come true Joseph! If I remember correctly sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't. Thanks so much 🙏🏼 we are certainly enjoying our lucky endeavours. All the best, E&M
Namaste from Nepal🇳🇵
