Also I don’t know if you noticed the little detail when Sussana comes into daisy’s room, she notices daisys porcelain cat statue that was on the bedside table is facing away from daisys bed. You can see the realisation on Susanna’s face as she turns the cat back around. Daisy turns the cat away from her bed when her father comes to visit her. This is a common thing young girls do before intercourse. They turn their plushies and dolls away to protect their innocence.
It’s ironic for me I grew up as a kid loving this movie and not knowing why. Turns out later in life I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder so it made sense why I liked Winona and Angelina’s characters so much lol
Girl, Interrupted is based on the book by the same title by Susanna Kaysen. It’s a true story. The movie made quite a few changes, but as the book is one of my favorites, I’m so relieved it was a pretty good adaption. Lisa did, in fact, get out. It’s been a bit since I read the book, but I’m pretty sure she got married, had a kid, and adopted a goat (so, another kid 😂). I haven’t read the sequel, apparently Susanna claims she was misdiagnosed, and I’ll believe her word. But I didn’t understand why I loved the book so much when it was so dark until I was diagnosed Borderline. I identified with a lot of what Susanna experienced, so whatever was actually going on then, there must be a lot of crossover symptoms. Anyway, there’s your trivia for the day. EDIT: I decided to check. The goat was Georgina’s, who also got out. She got married. The start of the chapter where she runs into Georgina and Lisa again starts with, “most of us got out eventually”.
This movie is based on a true story. I read the book that Suzanna wrote about her experience in the hospital. It's funny, happy, sad and sobering. This is one of my favorite movies. You should react to Riding In Cars With Boys with Drew Barrymore and Brittany Murphy(the girl who plays Daisy) that's equally a good movie like this one. RIP Brittany Murphy.
First time I have seen a reaction to this fantastic movie. Truly brilliant fim about mental health and the facilities at the time. A beautiful adaption of the book which was a true story.
That's the thing about Lisa. When you said that it didn't affect her at all seeing Daisy dead. They said it earlier in the movie - she's a sociopath. Sociopaths can be very charming and fun but they rarely or ever feel any true, deep emotions.
Shut up! No way! I LOVE this movie! I hope you liked it too. We shall see. Lol This was nice to see first thing in the morning. Thank you. ❤ keep up the good work. 😊
One of my favorite films, the book is incredibly different but the values and just knowing these were real women really gets me whenever I think of it. Loved your reaction!
Re: The laxatives handed out to patients.... The medications commonly prescribed to pychiatric patients cause constipation. Laxatives help- Re: "checks" Staff routinely "check" patients through the night to insure no one attempts suicide. It's preventative.
The scene in the kitchen between Daisy and Lisa is brilliant. For the first time, Daisy has the upper hand over Lisa. Lisa is EXTREMELY jealous of Daisy, and Daisy knows it. When Lisa says that she and Susanna have money/friends/family in Florida, Daisy knows that Lisa is lying. She's lying because she can't tolerate the idea of someone else (especially someone like Daisy) having all those things that Lisa needs and wants. When Daisy places the money on the table, it's a power play: you have nothing, I have everything. You need me, I don't need you. Somebody loves me, nobody loves you. Daisy had been bullied by Lisa for years. Now, Lisa needs her, despite her claims to the contrary: "we don't need your daddy's money". Lisa is feeling out of control; something a sociopath cannot tolerate. So, she reverts to what she knows best: digging at the trauma scars of those around her in order to regain control. Daisy and Lisa are actually a lot alike, in terms of their backgrounds. In Lisa's "a man is a dick, is a man, is a dad, is a chicken, a valium, a speculum..." monologue, the speculum is a call-back to Lisa's mandatory gynecological exams every time she's returned to the hospital to test her for STDs (I just happen to have severe trauma responses to gyno exams, requiring sedation), and a call-back to her own addiction to valium. Lisa has s**ual trauma. In that scene, she starts talking about Daisy's trauma coping mechanisms/triggers, but forgets herself in the heat of the moment, adding her own (valium, speculum). She of course takes the money once Daisy is dead. She could never allow herself to accept money from someone who can see that she's desperate. Her ego simply wouldn't allow it. The acting from Brittany Murphy is absolutely SUPERB. She was brilliant in every role she ever played. She was nuanced, she knew every single motivation of her characters before every one of her lines, she could convey to the audience even the tiniest flicker of emotion, every fleeting thought. Even as a teenager, I could see that she was one of the greatest living actors. Unfortunately, the average movie-goer, critic, and even the Academy tend to prefer BIG, loud, extreme, over-the-top performances over subtle, multifaceted, vulnerable, quiet ones. This wasn't always the case: the value of art diminished, while the demand for pure entertainment value grew around the 1980s. This is why Jolie took home the Oscar. I'm not saying she didn't do a good job. She did. But she had the advantage of playing a type of character that most people like to see. Brittany Murphy was a true artist. Sadly, the desire to see, and now, the ABILITY to see and understand art, has been dying for decades at this point. In my opinion, Brittany Murphy truly deserved recognition as one of the world's greatest actresses.
i'm so glad that reaction channels / film lovers are finally watching this film. -- it's so good. captures the minor possibilities of what happens and the true story of 'Suzanna'.
It's a great movie, but it underperforms for views. Also, the theme of the movie is something YT frowns upon talking about. Which is why I had to edit out a lot of those parts. I really enjoyed the movie.
I wish more people reacted to this movie, so far I've only found this and another video and that's it, and it's crazy to me considering that I think of this movie a masterpiece
they usually make you take laxatives when they prescribe medications that cause constipation, during this time they would prescribe valium, so the laxatives would offset that side effect
one of my favorite films. great cast. if you ever have the chance, read the book. it isn't a very thick book, but they definately altered some stuff, because hollywood. There are actually two gals named in the book with the name Lisa, but I get why they chose the more "disturbed" one over the other person. Everyone did a fantastic job in their roles with this film and it is a go to film on a sleepy, rainy day when your feeling something. Also, checks are a real thing. When I was in a ward for 2 weeks, it was every 15 minutes. The second time, in the same ward, 6 years later, it was 20-30 minutes. It is the worst. If you are on the suicide watch ward, you cannot shut your door hardly at all if at all. I do not miss it. Any other time it was 10-15 minutes. Just glad to not be in and out of the wards anymore. I have my life more under control and it has been almost a decade since I was in a hospital.

Angelina Jolie won Best Supporting actress for her role in the movie.
I bet! She was amazing in this. Her eyes are so believable.

"Hackers" -Angelina Jolie's first acting role, she was 17. The movie is pretty iconic, consider reacting.
And Foxfire if you like that early Jolie vibe
Please react to "Gia". It was one of Angelina Jolie's first roles. It's about the life of model Gia Carangi, who died of Aids.

This movie helped me to understand what i was and am still going through. I was too young to completely understand though.
this film made me so nostalgic omg i watched it so many times as a kid with my brother and sister
It has such a great story that's for sure!
Great movie choice! I haven't seen many reactions to it but loved this as a teen.
