Bayreuth 1951
A tremendously great performance, which gives you shivers. There were outstanding Wagner singers at that time.
Old but gold.
What a majestic introduction!
Elisabeth Schwarzkopf singing Woglinde!!!
IKR? 😀
I think this is better, than Karajan's own later studio recording: better singers, much more dramatic interpretation. Shame that, this cycle hasn't been issued entirely, although EMI recorded it.
Gracias.
Oops 2:19:56 the fast tempo taken by Karajan surprised the soprano, she missed some words, a little mistake quickly forgotten due to the great whole performance. Bravo
No. This is Ira malaniuk's first fricka. And she learned the role only a few hours before the performance. Sadly throughout this entire Rheingold you can hear her singing incorrectly and forgetting some words. This has nothing to do with karajan's tempo. Malaniuk later became a great fricka.
Another great example of her forgetting the words is: 1:58:48
I love this rendition and more generally karajan's ring is the best
Agree!
Tremendous!
I Froh és Wolfgang Windgassen
You are correct. This is Hanna Ludwig, not Ira Malaniuk.
I wish I could hear Knappertsbush rendition ( 1951 as well, Windgassen singing Froh ).
One of the very best Alberich interpretations. He's not meant to be portrayed lyrically or nicely, he should sound utterly desperate and desolate, and down right despicable!
The trick is to do both. Lyric, smooth, but also horrible and disgusting.
Cool reading of it... I can hear things in the strings I hadn't heard before... the slap-back echo-ey sound in the voice is weird..
Sublime
❤😂
After this, Karajan parted ways with Bayreuth forever.
His last collaboration with Wieland at Bayreuth was 1952 Tristan, not this ring.
Does anyone know who sings Mime ?
If anyone doesn't know about Ira Malaniuk, she sang Flosshilde in Solti's recording (only in Rheingold)
The188920 Shame on you!
not that this is her . . . it's Hanna Ludwig.
Rectificació: Froh és Wolfgang Windgassen.
Gràcies
That is incorrect. Wolfgang Windgassen sang Froh at July 31st July under Hans Knappertsbusch. This is Aug 11th.
Is the complete RING cycle available?
Sadly no. The Rheingold and Siegfried are complete, however Die Walküre and Götterdämmerung are not. For Die Walküre, only the third act and the finale of the first act are available and for Götterdämmerung, we only have a chopped version of the finale.
43:20 edit?
Second time seeing after Barenboim
No videos, no words...
But I can sleep in listening music
1:07:30!
Heinrich Pflanzl as Alberich is horrible and inaudible. Too much vibrato, very agressive voice.
Què vols, que sigui Neidlinger? Doncs encara no
