  • Following a couple of years out of the Aussie limelight while Marcie & The Cookies spent time in the UK, backing Cliff Richard & others on tour and record, Marcie Jones, now solo again, returned to Australia in 1973 with this outstanding first single from Marcie's first ever album, the also excellent "That Girl Jones". Our original Soul queen since the mid 60's when she was belting out Motown classics when not promoting her own records, Marcie's voice soars over the big Philadelphia Soul style production by Tweed Harris, formerly of the Groove. And Tweed & her record label spared no expense when it came to session musos. Just some of the backing voices include Graeham Goble & Beeb Birtles of Mississippi/LRB, Linda George, Bobby Bright of Bobby & Laurie, Mike Brady, Danny Robinson of The Wild Cherries, Julie McKenna & her old friend from the Cookies Wendy Reece (Cook).
Meantime on guitar you had Phil Manning, Tim Gaze (of Tamam Shud, Kahvas Jute, Mighty Kong etc), Charles Gauld of The Thunderbirds etc, Tweed handled the keyboards, Barry Sullivan (of Chain, Renee Geyer Band & LRB etc), played bass & Geoff Cox (Brian Cadd & The Bootleg Family, Avalanche & now a popular TV personality "Coxy') handled the drumming.
The single became Marcie's first solo hit since 1965, reaching #17 for 9 weeks in Brisbane & #22 in Adelaide for 6 weeks, and scored quite a bit of airplay in Melbourne. But sadly it didn't bother chart compilers in other states & deserved a much better fate. Fortunately her follow up "I'm Gonna Get Married" rectified that somewhat by reaching the Top 10 in both Melbourne & Adelaide.
Marcie continues to record on occasion & perform around Australia to this day, and that fabulous, huge soulful voice can still raise the roof, unimpaired by the passing of time & she remains one of the truly great Aussie female singers

Awesome sound, Marcie Jones and the Cookies were one of our biggest groups here in Australia and worked with some of our best artists.
