I find it hilarious how mobile suits can withstand several hits from mobile suit weapons, but a giant battleship, who's armor should be absurdly more dense, crumples from even the tiniest of hits.
MS don't withstand several hits. They can't even take one hit from these weapons. MS use much smaller caliber weapons against each other. These are 280mm bazookas with AP ammo. You can even see the heat hawk (the axe) is only used to cut battleship armor after it's been compromised by other hits. Unless you are talking about Gundams and other advanced and expensive mobile suits. They are framed and plated in Luna Titanium. The near-invulnerability of the material is a major plot point (and plot armor) of the series. Ships and other MS aren't equipped with it. If you're going to "logic" a criticism, then it would help not to omit such info.

The problem is that bazooka's are recoilless rifles and by nature are low velocity weapons, more like a missile than a shell fired from a piece of navel artillery. Such a round wouldn't have nearly the velocity to penetrate armor of any reasonable thickness. Recoilless Rifles do damage because they use a HEAT round (Shaped Charge), not by penetratingly armor and exploding. While a big HEAT round going might punch through a warship's armor (assuming they don't have modern armor like is on tanks these days), ships are so big and have so much redundancy built into them unless you get a Golden BB you will need to hit with a LOT of rounds to take out even a single larger ship. sm
i love how powerful federation ship actually are in gundam origins, they surely can destroy zeon armada in very good formation. and only fell because zeon exploit the weakness of EFF sensor that actually not design to combat minovsky jaming yet. making zeon victory mos justifyable like they actually smart villain that explot enemy weakness, not a giant dumb villain that using brute force to stomp weaker defender like in child show.
At this point neither side could deal with minovsky jamming and that tech never really got going as using minovsky particles for that was banned after the war as it made dead zones on both Earth and in space where radar was useless as well as long range comms. Zeon was no slouch in military terms as they were always good at taking the fedies by surprise, they just never had the real numbers to keep up the momentum nor the smart leadership to fully exploit any gains made save for Char who had other objectives other than just taking out the federation. Good antagonists either way though I agree!
the only exception to them actually being smart. Is the whole colony drop shenanigan they pulled off. As all it does is just piss off the feds and it's citizens even more. effectively making them lose any credibility that they should be allowed to be fully independent.

Which means even if they don't dabble into Minovsky jamming, the particles left by the engines would still leave a trail of Minovsky particles which would all build up slowly depending on the amount of ships and MS that would pass by a area
@@solaireofastora5999 The levels that anti grav engines and beam weapons put out are well within the levels that will naturally decay. The levels you need for jamming radar and communications are on entire orders of magnitude more than what even the most beef mega particle cannon will put out in it's entire service life. The engines used to get around space are nuclear or propellant engines while the anti grav engines like the white base do produce Minovsky particles but again not enough to really mess up an area for long or at all really.

Laser Comm is also the mainstay of military communication by the Gryps conflict in order to prevent Minovsky particles from Jamming comms.

This design is the only way to penetrate a tanks armor. More damage after a penetration is of no use if you can't penetrate the armor in the first place.

The design of the ships and the way the battle went really reminds me of WW2 pacific theatre. Small attackers taking out battleships while avoiding their firepower? Battle off Samar (taffy 3 vs center force), Midway, hunt for Yamato come to mind. The shitty Federation combat air patrol, lack of screening is really like the IJN while their firepower, aesthetics and characters feel very american.
just imagine sitting in your chair in one of those battleships... in nothing more than a uniform of normal fabric... in space... when all that is seperating you from death is a few inch thick piece of armor... no way sir. i'd sit there in a space suit bare minimum. and not just coz we watched the expanse and saw them do it... it's just the smart thing to do in case you have to GET OUT real quick. on earth you can just step outside... and maybe jump in the ocean... if in battle of the coral sea or something like that.
Imagine sweating your ass off, potentially impacting your concentration while controlling a massive battleship, all for the fraction of a percent of a chance that you'd be able to live a few minutes longer, depending on how your ship was breached. Chances are, even if you weren't killed by whatever breached your ship, you certainly will be by all the debris around you inevitably moving and thousands of miles an hour or more. And even if you aren't killed by debris, the chances of you being rescued from the void (mid-battle, no less) are so infinitesimal as to not be worth mentioning. May as well enjoy what comfort you can, while you can. Give me the uniform of normal fabric, thanks. If I'm most likely going to die either way, I'd really rather not do so while wearing a diaper, like you have to if you're wearing a space suit.
Being hulking beast that they are, you think space battleships would be more heavily armored. But playing space engineers on a weapon focused modded pvp server for a year, one will be forced to quickly learn that the most efficient and cost effective way to to protect the bridge, aka the command and control center of the whole ship, is to have it at the center of the ship
Just following real life examples. While modern warships do have an exposed bridge, the real command and control (CIC) is buried deep in the ship. Something that they don't seem to do much in anime. sm

I love this as a Zeon fangirl but that's not how decompression works in space. It is the reverse of what a submarine would have, the air in the ship would blow out of the hole in hull sucking people and stuff out of the hole. Which would be awful in the hole was not that big but a person gets forced through the hole... a spray of people paste would be seen. You know what I'd rather not see that but this is gundam and in F91 they showed a woman getting fried by a beam saber and then there is the scene of the mother getting her skull cracked from the spent shell from a fedie MS... There's not enough loss of pressure to buckle the hull unless it was built like a drink can. Though in the show's defense, it actually does show, extremely briefly, air being rapidly blown out of the individual holes made by the weapons. It is much harder to see in this lousy compressed clip, it's much clearer on legit streaming or bluray. Where you're also wrong is the idea that people get sucked out like paste through holes. 14~15 PSI, which is earth standard atmosphere pressure and also the same on modern spacecraft, is not that much pressure. It doesn't matter how much air there is in a ship, what matters is how much pressure there is. And it's just 14 PSI. The force of being pulled into a hole at that pressure might be lethal from the blunt trauma, but it is highly unlikely your body would be ripped in half or something, much less turned into paste. You were probably thinking that the smaller the hole, the more likely you'd get 'people paste', when in fact the smaller the hole, the more likely you'd survive getting sucked into it. Pressure exerts more force the larger the area it acts on, that's why the unit is called PSI (Pounds per Square Inch). One square inch hole? You'd only experience 14 pounds of force when you reach the hole. The average punch of a person measures around 150 PSI in contrast. Your comparison to a submarine doesn't work. Modern military submarines experience probably around 400 PSI at crush depth. The Titan submersible that was recently lost experienced almost 6000 PSI.

I had the same thought. Why not just get rid of the big guns to have bigger mobile suit carrying capacity, and have more anti air turrets as more effective defense against enemy mobile suits? And then, have smaller ships that are either equipped with a lot AA guns (AA gun boat) and ones with just big turrets (battleships) in a fleet in case there are multiple enemy ships.

To be fair, this scene is the first introduction of mobile suits. Feds underestimated the capability of MS n doesn't even bother producing their MS until late in the war.
This is funny because in grihnes greed this ship with a saberfish wall can maul those men biled suits, i basically liberate earth orbit in 9 turns after game start. My favourite thing i to use this ship and fighter to blast char away.
Maybe morale reasons? Like it's a bad sign if the captain wears one cause it implies they think the ship might get sunk. Impractical sure but I can see that being a reason

Uncf navy is more stronger than earth federation fleet cause the wave motion gun spam which will destroy the federation fleet and Yamato have plot armor
Star Wars , Dune , Warhammer 40k. None of those franchise are even remotely similar to each other. Furthermore they have giants mech in WH40K , The Tau Empire used them all the time, that is why WH40K fan nicknamed the Tau as weeaboos.
I also forgot to add that even without mobiles suits, The gundam universe would not be resembles Star Wars , Dune or Warhammer 40k. The closest Western franchise would be closer to The Expanse, except less realistic.

It's extinct lorewise. Minovsky effect made most guided weapons useless. I honestly like the EFSF fleet designs.

Without Gundam the UC is another Starwars another Dune another 40k. But with Gundam it becomes anime
Star Wars , Dune , Warhammer 40k. None of those franchise are even remotely similar to each other. Furthermore they have giants mech in WH40K , The Tau Empire used them all the time, that is why WH40K fan nicknamed the Tau as weeaboos.
I also forgot to add that even without mobiles suits, The gundam universe would not be resembles Star Wars , Dune or Warhammer 40k. The closest Western franchise would be closer to The Expanse, except less realistic.
