Hey guys! Thank you for all the support on the video so far! I would like to explain a couple things I’m seeing people saying. First things first, the “no remakes allowed” rule. I guess I should specify what I mean for this rule. I consider a “remake” something where everything is completely overhauled. I.E. The FF7 Remake overhauled all the gameplay with a similar story but was not as faithful to the original. I consider a “remaster” a remake that is faithful to the original game. Tells the same story and keeps the same gameplay but looks better. I.E The FF3 DS remake tells the same story, keeps the same gameplay, just touches up the graphics and gives the characters names. I’ve seen some people upset that I played the DS and GBA remakes of 1, 2, 3, and 4. While it is understandable why people are upset by this decision, I guess I should explain myself. For these 4 games, at the time of me making this list, I did not own the consoles that the original versions were on so I had to go with the next closest thing. I will admit that I missed some information about FF1, 2, and 4 with these rereleases. I do apologize for that. With me finally having access to these consoles, I do plan on playing these original versions and making a follow up video with this new knowledge under my belt. FF3, however, I had no other versions to play since we didn’t get another version of this game besides the DS version. This list was being made before the pixel remasters were released and I was in the middle of writing the script when they were released. So I was working with what I had at the moment in time. As part of my update video, I will be replaying FF1 and 4 in the most original versions I can get my hands on. It might take some time, but it will be done. I also plan on giving the online games a shot. I technically wanted to leave these games unranked because I didn’t have the time to sit down and try these games and I considered it unfair to rank them. I gave those games placeholder ranks so that when I do give them a shot, I can place them in the proper spots. Many of you have been really helpful on helping me figure out where to get started and I am truly grateful to all of you! I cannot wait to finally be able to sit down and give both of these games a proper playthrough. I also appreciate people letting me know that you can practically solo XIV for the most part. I’m not a big MMO guy so this information is helpful. I won’t comment on the 7 Remake controversy because it wasn’t supposed to be a part of the video besides as a joke and a comparison. I didn’t review nor rank it so I’ll leave that bit alone. As for the XV comments, I played this game long after its initial release so all I have to review it on was how I enjoyed the gameplay and the story. Like the other games on this list, its development cycle as well as its history did not take part in the ranking mostly because I was unaware of any of this. Only thing I knew is that it was originally Versus XIII and became XV later and that’s all I knew. I have a friend who told me about its development cycle and how things were cut and it was interesting to hear. But I am a firm believer in something can start messy and be cleaned up towards the end, and that was XV for me. I respect other peoples opinions on why they dislike it and I have no intention on trying to change anyone’s minds. I know where I stand and I’m happy with that. I know this long essay of a comment won’t change peoples minds about how they feel about certain things. Everyone has their own opinions and feelings about different games in this series and I love hearing them! I love the debates and hearing others constrictive criticism and it’s what makes this series so special! It hits people in different ways and everyone has their favorites, least favorites, etc. I want to expand my knowledge of this series and I can’t wait to do so! This is only my first time playing them through and I already planned on making a follow up. It’s also my first ranking video so I’m always taking notes on what to do different next time! Once again, thank you for all the support and I hope it continues! Keep letting me know what your lists are and I can’t wait to read them all. And just always know, not everyone will have the same opinion as you, but having civil debates is what makes these lists fun to make!
You can also solo FFXI as well as it included a AI party system option as well, but the game still doesn't feel like an normal RPG, compared to XIV which becomes more and more of a standard RPG as you go on in the expansions
1) FFVII REMAKE is not a Remake, it is a Sequel. REMAKE is a Subtitle. Like "Return of the King". 2) FFIII DS is a Remake. And with HUGE changes to the Story compared to the real III. 3) FFXV is amazing, don't listen to anyone. 4) I do not like MMORPGs at all. Never played one outside of FINAL FANTASY. With that out of the way, XIV is the absolute Best Game of all time.
Huh, I did not know that about 3. I bought a fan-translated NES cartridge of 3 and I’m gonna play it and see how it goes. Thank you for the information!
@@operationgamer5879 The whole backstory of the protagonists is changed, they even have names now. Also, some other characters mention some things that create huge plot holes. Basically, the pixel remaster is where it's at.
Final Fantasy 8 deserves a remake, it had a unique story that was told the wrong way. Also, great music and gameplay (it was fun winning and collecting the cards too).
So your whole town was destroyed and all your friend are gone. Wanna play Triple Triad? We will play with my rules instead of yours and don't mind the proxies I am using that have me and my friend's faces on them and are totally broken cards
@kevinblah6877i dont know what they were thinking when they designed the draw system and equipping magic to boost your stats. 1) drawing magic is extremely tedious and a brain dead mechanic and 2) i’ve never seen a system designed more to discourage actually using your magic than this one. oh you wanna use this spell? sure, instead of costing MP we’ll just make your character weaker then 🤡
FF6 is the greatest game ever made. People who haven’t played it, need to. This deserves a remake more than any other. If done right, it could be phenomenal. Adding extras that will actually be fun to see and play.
I am convinced square doesn’t remake VI because if they did it they would either mess up or it would be impossible to top it in future mainline game. Just picture the opera scene with modern, FFVII remake style, animations, graphics and music. 20/10 best Final Fantasy game ever made.
as a huge FF fan, im sad to say ive never played past the intro of 6. it’s hard for me to go back to the older visuals and stick with the game. I wish I played it around when it was released to have that nostalgic attachment to it. Plus for a long time all we had on modern consoles were the god awful smooth sprite mobile-first designed remasters. even tho we have the pixel remasters now, i’m still holding out on hope that we’ll get a proper HD2D remake of it since SE has expressed that they want to do more remasters of the classic games
@@extra4542 Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I personally prefer sprites to 3D graphics, and while the recent trend of High-Detail Pixel Art (Octopath Traveler, for instance) is great, that applies even the old-school grainy art. Obviously, playing the original 1987 version is a bit rough, but I'd encourage you to give 6 another shot. I think it's on Steam?
"I hear Chronotrigger is pretty good" is the understatement of the Millenia Fair lol You'll get it when you play... Man I was with you until 15 was in the top 5....to each their own though! Good video
im playing fifteen, and its the best after 9.IMO of course. but its also im way more into dungeon crawlers and stuff now and it feels like a western arpg dungeon crawler
I have to say, it's refreshing to see content made by a true fan on the franchise that is... Well... A fan for completely different reasons than most. 'Not the romantic type', 'didn't play Triple Triad (didn't interest me)', ... Or just generally having the audacity to rank XII higher than VIII ... etc... The more I watched, the more stunned I was at his answers. But I kept watching because the opinions interested me.
@@DylanKelleyVA I was interested in hearing the reasoning for some of the order but I have some issues with the list. Not because of my own preferences but because he said he was going to be judging them based on mostly gameplay mechanics to then say "I have issues with this but maybe that's because I didn't bother the learn the mechanics." Which is fine if you don't want to put effort into learning a games systems, however if you are ranking them based on the systems and gameplay then learning proper utilization of those systems is necessary to give fair judgement. FF8 is a great example because that game is ONLY grindy if you don't learn the systems.
I loved watching the review, I love it when ppl actually appreciate the soundtracks and battle themes, I'm watching this after just finishing my first playthru of final fantasy 16 and it was amazing, my top 3 would be 7 10 and 16 , 7 being a biased opinion of mine since it was my intro to the franchise lol great video
Yessss glad to see X ranked highest. Best music, lore, characters and setting. The combat slaps, villains are great, and the summons are so sick. What a game, forever in my heart
The card game in VIII allows you to get the items you need to upgrade your weapons, but it's another form of grinding since you have to play (and win) a lot of games to get them all. Also, good luck to you if the Random rule spreads across the region.
Technically, the random rule shouldn't be an issue anyway. Really the only place you should be playing cards-unless you want all cards before the final disc-is Balamb Garden and Balamb town anyway. The CC group is there, and most of the other cards you need for moding can be gotten from other Balamb NPCs. Balamb also only has the Open rule, so no rule mixing issues. That being said, I have to agree with his "copy-paste" criticism of the game. Really, I find that the fun in the game is found when trying to find new ways to break it. Out of all the FF, 8 is probably the one with the most ways to get game-breakingly powerful.
Random rule is not the real problem when you have a solid bunch of powerful cards and you modded the low level ones, so your hand will always be strong. No the real deal breaker is Plus rule, especially without the Open rule. Plus without Open turns every game into a blind coinflip.
yeah the difference in gameplay between a newcomer playing blindly and a FF8 veteran is huge, i don't know if you see that as much in any other FF. It only takes two main things to know : card mod's potential, and the crisis level mechanic. Then the game changes completely. Sadly, a new player will just spam GF's from beginning to the end of the game, and almost never try limit breaks because they won't be comfortable letting a character with low health, all that resulting resulting in a pretty dull experience. @@zentfan
Personal ranking: 7 (Best Story, World, Characters, Weak combat and progression by today's standards, Fun postgame chocobo breeding, Second best airship - Highwind.) > 10 (All around solid, Best Progression, I can still get into 10 today unlike 1-9.) > 8 (Best music, Story is completely nuts but I like it, Very breakable progression, Going to space, Flying balamb garden, Best airship - Ragnarok.) > 9 (Very solid game minus Last Boss being kinda lame, Second best music, Chocobo hot and cold and card games were actually good.) > Tactics (Great Progression, Mixing and matching jobs is very fun, I can still enjoy this game today, which makes it the oldest FF game I can still get into.) > 12 (Combat and party setup is quite good, Characters are mostly meh.) > 15 (Likable characters, Beautiful world, Story has good elements. I feel like FF15 came THIS close to being amazing and being like top 3, but it feels like they tried to copy FF7's feeling of loss but then gave the character they killed off zero screentime for me to care whatsoever when they die.) > 13 (Corridors, No meaningful Progression till late game, Least favorite characters, Story is pretty good I guess?) Played 2, 4, 5 and 6 but didn't finish them. If we're talking all square games: Chrono Trigger probably #2 after 7, and Secret of Mana #3 (One of the only 2 player RPGs to this day, wish more games used this drop in style multiplayer). Chrono Cross is alright too, probably after Tactics for me though. Edit: Honorable Mention - FF7 Crisis Core (Best spinoff, Costly punch breaks the combat.)
Despite knowing basically all the Final Fantasies, seeing someone else appreciate FFXV REALLY makes me happy, as that's my favourite Final Fantasy with 9 as a close second.
If you didn’t like Final Fantasy 3 for DS, I would try the Pixel Remaster as it is closer to the NES version and the difficulty is way more balanced. I feel like the world map of FFIII is just so good and the episodic stories are just so fun. Sure there’s a lot of times where you have to change jobs, but I would say that it’s in a fun way as opposed to a frustrating way. It’s a fan favorite in Japan. Sure the job system is nothing like FFV, but I think as an introduction to the system, it’s a great way for newcomers to learn how different jobs work before it gets more complex in FFV and later entries. I haven’t personally played it, but while watching let’s plays, it’s by far the most fun to watch compared to the other NES FF games. And I’ve played FFI on the NES Classic and it’s more fun to watch FFIII than play the first game, and I think the first game is pretty fun.
I definitely want to try the NES or the pixel remaster. This was the only version I could play at the time, so I am very curious how the NES or the Pixel remaster plays. Thanks for the suggestion!
Finally. Someone who gets me. I LOVE FFXV. It's emotional, the characters are great, story is confusing, but if you put a little effort in to understand, is also great. The combat is Hella easy but FUN. ITS FUN.
Ff14 is free up until the end of heavensward which is like 200 hours worth of content even after they shortened a realm reborn. You can get more than a good feel for the game without spending anything. Heavensward is amazing and a realm reborn I appreciate alot as an introduction and I love how cozy the starting zones feel and you get to spend alot of time in them. and it also has a kind of ocarina of time formula in its story where you go across the land getting the crystals similar to the pendants in ocarina of time. But also there's a much strong war story going on at the same time. It's just the time investment that's the big cost as they do hog your time. So that's is the real reason to stay away but it is fun. I played it for a good 2 years before dropping it. I think I put in like 1000 hours and got all the way up to the end of shadowbringers doing all of the side quests in every expansion as well. The way the dungeons work with all the different class types, and as a multiplayer experience it is really good.
Have you heard about the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14, with a free trial up to level 60 with no limits on play time including the critically acclaimed Heavensward expansion?
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject I liked 15 far more than 13 I beat 15 multiple times. I've started multiple 13 playthroughs, but I've never actually finished it.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject 13 was flat out boring lol. You're entitled to your opinion I guess, but I never really asked 😅 It made a big show of being flashy, but there wasn't any real substance to the game. It was limited at every turn, and frankly playing it was just obnoxious. The amount of time required to grind was obscene for a single player game. Most fans of the series think 13 is the worst game in the series, and with good reason. Because it is.
Whilst I respect your opinion, I’ve got to say having 15 so high is…a choice. Thought I’m still salty af for spending over $100 on the collector’s edition of a game that was ultimately very unfinished at launch (and would proceed to remain unfinished for almost two years). Agree with your top two though 😝
That is fair. I did play the game much much later after it’s launch when the patches and updates came out so I guess it does give it a little of an advantage. I guess I just really enjoyed the gameplay and what came after patches and updates. I appreciate your input 😊
XV vanilla(launch edition) was great and a lot of fun. The royal edition we ended up at is pinnacle of course, but either way XV is easily a top 5 FF. I think the $100 collectors edition contributed to some misplaced expectations. I thought his ranking was in depth and accurate.
People that hate on 15 Crack me up so much lol. It's definitely not a traditional FF and was basically unfinished when it first released, but to call it a bad game today is just people holding grudges or probably didn't actually play it lol
I’d highly recommend playing 14 if you’ve played the other games it has arguably the best story in the franchise and an amazing soundtrack for each expansion. They’ve also put a lot of effort into making it single player friendly, I too don’t really enjoy multiplayer games but the recent patches have added the option to play through most story dungeons with ai party members instead of other players.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about 14 and I definitely want to give it a shot! I have a 30 day free trial. Im trying to finish up some games then finding a month I can sit down and play it for a video. I’m excited to give it a shot!
@@operationgamer5879 I would not use your 30 day free trial and simply create a free trial account. It allows you to play unlimited up to level 60, and get complete access to the base game (A Realm Reborn) and the first expansion (Heavensward). It takes some time to get to Heavensward, but it is so worth it ! And I'm also not a fan of multiplayer games, but FF14 goes out of its way to make this MMORPG as single player friendly as it can.
@@TheRealPat316 Also the developers have been clear since the beginning that 14 is an RPG first and an mmo second. Lots of focus on the story, which is fantastic.
I love ff 13 honestly, I’m glad you put it higher than most others. I watched my Brothers and cousins play 7 and 8 when I was young back on PlayStation 1 lol. I gotta play a lot of ff10 but never beat it but ff13 came out right around when I was a teenager and I loved playing it.
Heads up, Final Fantasy XIV completely changed how the free trial works so you'll want to be careful with your "free trial." Recently they made a program where you can play all of both A Realm Reborn and Heavensward as a "Free Player." As long as you never become a paid player there is no time limit on how long this free trial lasts. The catch is that if you become a paid player, you loose access to the free trial. I believe the 30 days you got with your copy is basically 30 days as a paid player, so you will want save it until after you beat the new free trial.
This video deserves a lot more love, ignore the toxicity, people are allowed to have opinions without being trashed. Im hoping to make my own video about these soon too 😁
We were so spoiled back in the day. In 5 years from 1997-2001 we got FF VII, VIII, IX, and X. We got 4 fantastic mainline Final Fantasy games in 5 years. Online games aside, it took 17 years for us to get XII, XIII, XV, and XVI.
Nope. It doesn't work like that. There have been a lot of high caliber side games since XI. You cannot remove XI and it's Expansions, or XII, or 3 games of XIII, or XIII-2, or LR, or X-2, or. Mobius, or Crisis Core, or XIV and it's 5 Expansions, or XV,, or Dissidia, or Type-0, or World of FF, or Strangers of Paradise, or REMAKE, or REBIRTH, etc Back then, we had SO FEW FINAL FANTASY games. We are so spoiled now! Golden Age of FINAL FANTASY!!
That’s really good to know. I’ve seen a lot of comments telling me this. I’ve been thinking about giving 12 another look. I mostly meant in the video wasn’t a variety of side quests besides hunts, but if there’s more that I missed, I’d be more than happy to dive back in and look. Question, does the zodiac version have more side content than the original 12? Because I played the PS2 version for this ranking.
@@operationgamer5879 I don't think so, but most of the side content isn't MARKED for you. You have to discover it yourself. For example revisting older dungeons later in the game have additional bosses / weapons / quests that don't have a quest marker.
That’s fair. I do remember getting stuck with a hidden optional boss that I think was another summon in a sewer area 😂. I got clapped bad. But I think I’ll revisit it to see what I missed. Thank you for the information 👍
I've never played 11, so I cannot say anything positive or negative about it. But 14, on the other hand, I highly recommend especially if you are coming in from the FF side of things like I have when I joined the game in 2019. This is coming from someone who isn't a big fan of MMOs in general. If you thought that FF9 was heavy with references to past FFs and other things, you've not seen anything yet! The creator of FF himself, Hironobu Sakaguchi, admitted to being blown away and somehow did a nearly nonstop runthrough all the way from early ARR to the very end of Endwalker while doing all of the major side content and fulfilling his duties as his company's CEO. As others have no doubt said, the devs are making the effort to make FF14 even more single-player friendly than it already was. Currently, all of the Main Scenario 4-man dungeons and 4-man trials up to the very end of Heavensward can now be run with a party of NPCs. But, the optional dungeons and 8-man trials still have to be run with other players, but that is not an issue thanks to the Duty Finder. Standard party composition is 1 tank, 1 healer, and 2 DPS (twice that in 8-man content): here the Duty Finder will find other players to fill the roles needed. Playing on PS4 only needs 1 thing. A keyboard for easier communication with others since the PS4 Onscreen Keyboard is pure garbage. The game is filled with all sorts of customization options for your UI, your Chat Log, and even battle effects by you and your allies. As for creating your character, you'll have to choose a World that isn't labelled as Congested. Afterwards, you'll be able to make your very own character to adventure with, and while it is not as drastic as other games, I guarantee that you'll spend a good 20 minutes or so on the Character Creator. While it is labelled as an MMO, the game is an RPG first and foremost. You could say it's an RPGMMO. Here, you need not worry about rushing to the current endgame. Aside from Seasonal Events which happen every so often, everything is here to stay. You also need not worry about being overlevelled for dungeons, trials, raids and overworld FATEs thanks to the Level Sync system. Think of it like the one in Dissidia Duodecim, but is automatic and does not make you put on lower level gear. Lastly, the game is all about cooperation instead of conflict. There is no Overworld PvP of any kind, and what PvP the game does have is designed as friendly competition where both sides give it their all and go have a beer afterwards, metaphorically. Player toxicity is frowned upon by the majority of players since this game actually encourages good behavior. The game also acts like you have never touched an MMORPG in your life, and so it will start out very slow and slowly build momentum as you progress the MSQ. And when it gets going, buckle up, because there ain't no gettin' off this train you're on! Good luck and may you walk in the Light of the Crystal!
I love 14 but 11 in its golden age is the best time I have ever had playing a video game. I’m also not a big fan of the mmo genre, partially due to the fact that after playing 11, no other mmo could come close. Even 14, which I’m a huge fan of, scratches a totally different itch to 11. Shoutout to Odin server. Distant worlds together.
Final Fantasy 14 is my favorite in the series so I do recommend trying it! I understand it being online is a turnoff for you, but the story is worth it, it has one of the best, if not THE best story in the series.
Am doing a marathon myself of the series because I loved 14 so much! So far I would rank the series like this: Worst FF2 FF1 FF4 FF3 (Played the pixel remaster which fixes some of the problems you mentioned, also 14 has a ton of references to it which made me happy) FF6 FF8 FF5 FF7 FF9 FF14 Best
@@spyrospy9941 I’ve heard great things about 14 and can’t wait to try it! And thanks for sharing your list! Good luck with your marathon of these amazing games 😊
i love ffx so much. i have replayed it many times and i never get tired of it. for so long i didn't realize that people had problems with it being a linear game because... well, it makes sense in the context of the story. you're on a linear journey, a literal pilgrimage. you have a very specific starting and ending point, and you have specific spots you need to hit on the way. you could make that work in an open world setting, sure, but the linear design fits it. also, best romance in the series. also, the music is so incredible. i know people get sick of the battle theme but if you just listen to it as an independent piece of music, wow, what a composition. and the whole soundtrack has several recurring motifs which i love. just a wonderful game overall and i always think of it fondly.
Unfortunately it was not in the cards at the time of me making this list, but with people telling me about trying them for free, I’m definitely looking forward to it!
If we count the sequels to each of the mainline Final Fantasy games, I’ll put Stranger of Paradise and the After Years in the bottom, while Crisis Core and XIII-2 are in the top.
My apologies. It was definitely an over exaggeration thinking back on it 😂. Mostly used it as a comparison of how much remake covered. I was so sucked into FF7 that I lost track of time. Hence why there was text at that moment I said that while editing it. I think it was closer to 3-4 hours because I did have prior knowledge thanks to friends (couldn’t shut up about the game lol) and sort of knew the way thanks to remake. The rest of the game was 100% blind so it took me longer for the rest of the game. It’s been a while since I played so the memory is a bit hazy for me. I will definitely watch what I say for this stuff from now on
Man people are shitting on FF15 that game is great as a long time FF fan who's also played all the main game, 15 was one of the best FF games, the story was fantastic, incorporating both the imperialistic themes FF uses, while also integrating the metaphysical themes FF story is known for and they interweave the both of them fantastic, the only other game that did that, was FF6 and 9, even then 9 didn't focus on a bigger picture story until like the second disc I believe it's been a while
Junction system is may be my favorite among the FF series, and Triple Triad is pretty core mechanics-wise to the game as well. Someone really didn't get to understand the game, I feel.
I finished them all last year, I’d been missing the original 2 and 3. Ff15 was easily the 15th best, that game had a total identity crisis, devs forgot what game they were making and kept trying to be like other games.
That’s fair. I did play the game much later after its release and didn’t really pay attention to the development cycle of 15. Only reason why it’s higher on the list is because I enjoyed the gameplay as it was. But that’s a completely fair statement
While I definitely have some differing opinions along the way, I think it's good that you articulated your own points and why you put things where you did. Sure, that's the premise of the video, but you'd be surprised how many people can't do that. For me, personally, my list goes something like this: FF6 > FF8 = FF10 > FF4 > FF9 > FF7 > FF5 > FF12 > FF13 > FF15. FFT would rank up there around FF6 if it were a mainline game.
I appreciate that a lot! It’s nice to see people appreciate that everyone has their own distinct opinions and preferences. You don’t see that too often on the internet lol. Also, I’ve heard great things about FFT, so I’m excited to try it out!
Ooooohh interesting choices! I agree with your top 5 (haven't played 15 yet watched playthroughs so I understand why it's likeable), but my top 2 favorites are swapped with yours and I agreed with your opinion on each. Technically my first FF game was 6 but it's not really the reason why it's my top 1 (it's just the solid story, the ATB system and characters), and 10 was my 4th FF game but it landed on my 2nd spot because of the points you mentioned in the video. Great choices overall, keep it up!
14 doesn't just give you free 30 days anymore. You can free trial the entire base game, the first expansion Heavensward, and now the entire second expansion Stormblood. All free, no matter how long it takes you. There's no time limit anymore. There are some restrictions placed upon free trial accounts, but that's easily 300+ hours of story and gameplay right there alone. And a lot of it can be soloed. People like to say it's a Final Fantasy game first, and an MMO second.
@@operationgamer5879 ARR, the base game, can feel rough to play. There are a lot of insinuating circumstances. They had to remake the game in just over two years after the failure that was 1.0 of the game. But from Heavensward on, 14 honestly becomes one of the most engaging stories in the entire series. I hope you enjoy, and are able to get through A Realm Reborn.
I played through most of the games years ago except 1 to 3 and 15. I'm currently playing through the entire series starting with the first. I'm currently going through FFII right now of the Pixel remaster.
solid video, for ff8 I think your complaints are very valid, but Triple Triad 100% makes the grind for everything in that game better. You mention that finding items to upgrade weapons is grindy and takes a long time, a lot of the rarer items in the game are found by refining extremely common Triple Triad cards. Refining triple triad cards into items, and items into powerful spells/other items is probably one of the most busted parts of the game as you can get tier 3 spells as soon as you get card mod and magic refineries from Shiva/Quetzalcoatl/Ifrit
I did notice the refining mechanic towards the end of my playthrough and it definitely did help me a lot. People have mentioned that Triple Triad makes the game a lot less grindy. I plan on replaying 8 while playing triple triad to see if it changes my opinion on the game or not. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
I really don't understand where you get the idea that there's nothing to do in XII other than hunts. That game is absolutely packed with side content. Sure, they might not be obvious as there's no big fat exclamation marks on the maps to tell you that they're there, but if you talk to the NPCs, you find there's plenty of things to do and mini side stories that you can uncover. Clan Centurio and the Clan Hall Desert patient Ktjn Pilika's diary Sunstones in Giza Plains Lost Cactoid Bhujerban Madhu July Viera matchmaking Earth tyrant Three medallions Necrohol of Nabudis Jovy Ann's letter Fishing Hunt club in Phon Coast Treasures in the Great Crystal Saccio lane footrace Subterra in Pharos at Ridorana Hell wyrm Sky pirate's den Great cockatrice escape Espers etc., etc.
There’s definitely information I say in this video that is outdated, and people have been kind enough in the comments to point out where I went wrong, including the fact that I did miss out on stuff for FFXII. I also found an old school strategy guide in a pawn shop for cheap and realized my mistake. This video was based on my first time playing these games and I tried not to use a strategy guide to ensure I got a fresh experience, hence why I missed a lot of the side quests and wasn’t very thorough. I plan on revisiting this game at a later date and updating this list at a future date once I have given the online games a try and XVI a spot.
I think the reason why so many people dislike FF9's visual style is the fact that most peoples' first Final Fantasy games were 7 and/or 8 and the jump from "realistic" human characters to classic fantasy job characters was too much. Or at least, that was the case for a lot of people that I knew. I also somewhat agree on the fact that FF games went downhill after FF10. Maybe I got too used to how the previous games were or I was just too old to get excited about totally new stuff in games anymore, I don't know, but even after trying 12 and 13 I could never have the urge to finish them. I bought FF15 on Steam sale but have never played it. The only new FF game I'm into is FF16, but I had to really not think about it being a Final Fantasy game to properly enjoy it, because it's so drastically different from the earlier games in pretty much every way, to a point where you barely can even call it Final Fantasy.
I have no interest in MMOs either, but I thought I'd play a few hours of the XIV free trial just to see what it's like. In a year I've played 1500 hours and it's now my favourite FF story of all.
Don't worry about 11 and 14. To me personally 14's story is AMAZING, but when comparing the games the story isn't the only thing being judged. But not only that but no one really expects people to include 11 and 14 in a ranking list, they shouldn't have given them numbers and just called them FF Online and FFO 2
I skipped past this video on my recommendations probably ten times because the red border - it makes it look like I’ve already watched the video before, so I didn’t realize it until I took a closer look!
@@operationgamer5879 I think a nice bright blue, much like the FF logo in this thumbnail, would look really nice and clean! Plus I wouldn’t skip over your videos in the future 😅
Came here to see how low FF8 would be on the list, and to see what was in last place and what was in first, hahaha. Good choice with FF10, that's an awesome game. And FF15 is WAY WAY too high on your list, that game is a mess.
Just saying, if you liked 15 then you might also enjoy Type-0 and the 13 trilogy games. Also, every song you played in this video can be found in 14....
Its cute you worry about spoilers on 25 to 30 year old games lol. Mostly agree with you on this lost tho. I feel like the older ff games can be such let downs. I do agree with a lot of ur pts. Especially on 13. But i would out 13 higher. im impressed that you have 15 up so high without playing the full complete royal edition. however my top 3 goes.. 3, ff6 2, ff10, 1 ff7
X is my favorite game too, the story and characters and world and music it’s all just so wonderful. It’s also my favorite gameplay style, the sphere grid is a really fun way to level up characters. VII is second place. I think the story, characters, music etc are all slightly better than X, but the gameplay gets a little boring towards the end, and the materia system isn’t as customizable. However I would also say that VIIR is actually my favorite Final Fantasy Game ever, but I guess it doesn’t seem totally fair to rank it until the remake is complete.
I’m all for hearing other opinions for sure. If I were to rank you have to divide 1-6 and 7-15. How can you compare 15 to 1? It’s just not fair. But my favorite is 4 of the old games. 8 has the best soundtrack while bing the worst game at the same time
Glad to see someone actually appreciates FFXV besides it's history and flaws. If you want to know the full story, play all Its DLC and watch the anime and the kingsglaive movie. Also if you've heard of versus XIII, you know the feeling.
It's always fun to see someone's reactions to old games without the tint of nostalgia, you've got some odd choices from my perspective (I was surprised you ranked 12 so low and 15 so high for example) but I assumed from the start 10 would probably be your #1 based on your prior experience with it. Seven has always been my favorite, I was pretty much the exact target demographic for the game when it was new. I was 13 when it came out, it was my first Final Fantasy and I fell in love with it and the franchise. I have a question for you as someone who played Remake before playing the original. Did playing the original lessen your enjoyment of Remake in any way? I enjoyed many things about Remake but the crazy pseudo sequel narrative decisions soured what I found to be an otherwise solid game.
I’d be happy to answer your question! Let me start off by saying that Remake actually inspired me to play the original because I only knew bits and pieces of it and wanted to experience the full original game for myself before the other parts came out. From my previous knowledge, it was pretty obvious that changes were made. When I eventually got around to playing the original, I was more focused on how much Remake covered and expanded on only part of the original game more than I was with the changes. It was only after I got done with the original game and saw the part 2 trailer that I noticed that the Remake was going to take a different course. Now, did the original lessen my enjoyment of remake? I would have to say no. I was more surprised than anything about the fact that stuff was changed because I thought it was a one for one remake at the beginning but turned out to be something else. But I would say that it didn’t ruin my experience for the original either. I think both these games are fun and unique in their own ways. I do, however, understand why fans are upset as well. Hell, I’d be upset too if one of my favorite games from my favorite franchise got a complete overhaul with changes to the main story. It’s why I don’t stick to a side when it comes to this debate because both sides have good points. But as someone who is new to the series and played both, I loved both the original and remake and that’s good enough for me. My apologies for my life story, I’ve avoided responding to the negative comments about this that I got genuinely excited that someone actually asked me a question about it lol. I appreciate your question! Love to answer more!
@@operationgamer5879 Thank you for the candid response. It has been a very touchy subject, I admittedly was very bitter about it for awhile. It was heartbreaking seeing so much of the remake I wanted in the game only to have the rug yanked out from under my feet in regards to the story. It is a very good game however and I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys it or even prefers it over the original (as much as you can compare the first installment in a series to a complete game). I have another question if you'll indulge me, have you played FF Tactics or Chrono Trigger yet? They're two of my favorite Square games and I highly recommend both. If you haven't played Tactics yet I would like to point out that there are two different versions of the game, the PS1 original and The War of the Lions which I believe first came out on the PSP. The War of the Lions adds some very well done voice acted cut scenes with a pencil styled animation and a few other additions but it also updates the dialogue to give it a Shakespeare vibe much like 12 (12 is actually set in the same world as Tactics, Ivalice, but 12 takes place centuries before Tactics) and I got the impression you weren't a fan of that. The original writing in Tactics is much less flowery than 12's so you might want to do the same as you did with 12 and try the original before the updated version. Regardless, thank you again for the response and a very enjoyable video. It's great to see that these older games can still bring enjoyment to those of us who weren't weaned on them.
You’re very welcome! I have not played either Tactics nor Chrono Trigger, but I do own both. I even own both versions of Tactics lol. I’ve heard great things about them and plan and playing them (once I get done with the many other games I’ve started and have yet to finish 😂). But both games are definitely on my to do list and I can’t wait to give these games a shot! Thanks for the information! 👍
Aww, ff3 is in last, I will admit, it's not the best game not by a long shot, but it was my intro into the franchise, so for me it holds a special place in my heart.
That’s is totally fair! I’m disappointed that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked. Hopefully my opinion will change when I try another playthrough
@operationgamer5879 I doubt your opinion will change from it, I think it's better than ff2 and ff13, but overall, it didn't age well and has a lot of flaws. It's just nostalgia that makes me like it so much.
Yes, a lot of people pointed this out and after doing some research, I was very much mistaken. I will be returning to this game and giving it another shot in the zodiac age edition
I really enjoyed your video glad I found it keep up the good work a few points I could say or I guess give criticism constructively I noticed in the beginning you said you wanted to play the older versions of Final Fantasy on the NES and SNES and later in the video mocked them for being buggy but I guess it's just a gripe for me and I did get a kick out of anthropology but I'm sure you noticed all in all definitely enjoyed it
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I guess I would like to clarify, if I remember which part in the video you were referring to, was bugginess of FF6. The only version I was able to play at the time was the PS1 version, which had some bad loading times for battles and froze up on me while I was playing it (which caused me to save constantly in fear it would freeze on me and I’d lose all my progress 😂). After playing FF6, I was informed that it was not the best way to play the game and the other versions of the game don’t have the same bugs. Even the SNES version has better loading times then the port I was playing. I didn’t want that to affect my overall opinion on the game because I didn’t want to stop playing the pixel remaster while recording gameplay. But I really do want to play the original games in their original state if I ever get my hands on it. I try not to let minor things like loading times affect my overall experience. Heck some of my favorite games I played as a kid had long loading times and I still enjoy them to this day. I guess I only brought it up so I could give my experience of the port I played it on, but I know now I guess it wasn’t super necessary. I appreciate the constructive criticism and will remember that for next time. (If this wasn’t the part you were talking about, please let me know. That’s the only part I remember talking about having some buggy issues 😂).
I appreciate the reply definitely look forward to more videos from you I've played through all the games except the MMOs as well definitely going to tune into the live stream for 16 the dancing though I'm glad you didn't put something up for the third song two was perfect 30 would have been cringe
@@chriswise6022 exactly why I didn’t do it for the third one lol. I knew it would be too much. But I’m very happy you liked the video and going to stick around for more!
I watched a final fantasy ranking video a week ago and now my recommendations are full of them. So thank the algorithm. I've been watching the ones that pop up just to see what everyone's opinions are on the different games. I can respect your list except for where you put 12 and 13. I can understand the combat system in 12 might not be for everyone, especially if you're used to the ATB and Turn based systems. I think it's super underrated, though. However, 13 is buns, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Which is fine, sometimes people are wrong and I forgive you for that.
Here’s the thing. I’ve seen a lot of comments like this where people say “you’re doomed” or “I can forgive you” or “you’re objectively wrong”. I’m not out here for acceptance nor trying to appease people for having the same opinions. I’m out here just showing my appreciation for the series and maybe get some conversations going. By uploading this video, I was fully aware that people were going to have different opinions than I and I am okay with that. Yes, 12 was hard for me to get into because I wasn’t personally a fan of the gameplay (I do intend to give it another shot at some point because I do understand why people like this system, it just didn’t jive with me the first time through). But I believe this just shows how subjective game preference is. So in my personal opinion, I believe it is unfair for you to say that people are wrong for liking 13 just because you personally did not enjoy it. I am totally aware how controversial 13 is and I went in with that mindset. But I enjoyed it more than I thought I did. It’s not my favorite by a long shot, but it didn’t turn out as bad as people were saying. I like to experience something for myself and then form an opinion based on what I experience, not from what others say. It is okay to not enjoy something, but it is not okay to bash on other people for having a different opinion than yours. Please know, I do not say this out of spite or anger. I just want to point out that just because someone has a different opinion than yours, does not make them wrong. Either way, I hope you have a great day. I appreciate you watching and sharing your opinion 😊
@operationgamer5879 sarcasm is lost on the internet sometimes. Don't misunderstand. You liking or not liking a game has no effect on me or my life. I just thought to make a joke to ridicule an unpopular opinion. If it came off, otherwise my bad
It’s definitely hard to read sarcasm from text 😂. Seeing a lot of these types of comments makes it hard to consider that option. My apologies for the misunderstanding. I appreciate you letting me know lol. Thanks for watching the ranking!
I also enjoy ff15 but depending on when u played it, chapter 13 was patched to fix some of the complaints people had so it's not nearly as bad as it was at launch
I see someone already explained how FF14 is free to play up until the end of the Heavensward MSQ. Technically still is FTP, you just can't advance past lvl 60 and any content that comes after 3.X. I do wanna add, that it's not really all that dependant on playing with other people. The devs have gone through and made the game very solo friendly. And even pairing up with people isn't bad, most people don't mind newbies aka sprouts. And we're almost always willing to share tips on how to improve or how to play in general. If you can play for 2 or 3 months I think the story will hook you. It's slow in the beginning, but it lays a lot of the foundation upon which the plot is based on. And gets so good by the time you're done with the Heavensward MSQ. I'm going back to the video now. Peace ✌️
Final fantasy 3 is really good but one thing you could do in dungeons before the boss is after 2-3 fights use heal all on team and then continue to fight and then head back out save and repeat
That is fair and I totally see why people love it so much. I wish I enjoyed the gameplay. Definitely something I’m going to come back to and see if my opinion changes
“No remakes” *ranks the DS remakes* I see what you meant, the remakes of 3/4 are very faithful, where FF7R is actually more of a sequel than a straight remake.
I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this video. My top games would be 1. FF9 2. FF10 3. FF14 4. FF15 I haven't played 1-6 so I don't have an opinion on those. FF16 is really good so far!
40 yrs old player here , first game sne 24mb version of ff6, and this is the first game that i need to install with 3 floppy disc lol if u know what is it... stop at ff8, thank you for the list coz ff1 4 6 7 are all the best memory i played n only with the japanese version, will try 9 and 10 coz of ur comment . thx and real credit much better ranking than other youtubers thx.
Man i wish you played FFV but the GBA version, being far superior to any version prior and with a proper translation unlike the ps1 or snes version while having extra juicy content post game is really fun, a bit salty that FF13 got higher than V but im still happy for the praise you gave it As for FF15 i can see why a lot of ppl in the comments section is giving you a lot of crap, most of the fanbase played the base game and not the completed version (which is actually a whole different beast), the infamous chapter 13 on release was super long and also the ring was kind of useless/weak, on the royal version they shortened the routes in ch13 and made the ring strong as it should be lore wise, even tho i do love FF15 and pretty much agree with your ranking (we have it in the same place actually) i only wish it had the movie and anime OVAs lore built ingame and that the DLCs were made into the base game too, there are parts that doesnt make sense on the main story until you play the characters DLCs, but other than that, FF15 will always remain as one of my top FF on my opinion My ranking would go: 6, 10, 5, 15, 4, 9, 1, 7, 8, 12, 13, 2, and 3 I havent played FF11 and absolutely loved 14 but i dont put them in the ranking because i feel they are different experiences compared to the usual single player ones
I appreciate that a lot! I definitely have some unpopular opinions, but that’s what makes these videos so much fun to make and watch. I always like to experience the game for myself and develop my own opinions on it instead of going along with whatever Twitter says lol. It’s what makes gaming so fun!
Nice list. The only one that felt really out of place for me was XII. The Zodiac Age improves, in my opinion, the game by a lot. The job system felt great and the game has some side content besides hunts. You have the Espers to find and you have to do some side quests to unlock new areas and the best weapons. Really underrated game in my opinion. My top 7 would go something like this: 1. FF 10 2. FF 9 3. FF 12 4. FF 4 5. FF 5 6. FF 15 7. FF 7 (i know its very popular but the materia system is not my favorite and i rather have a job system. Plus Every map felt so short so i am glad it was expanded in the remake) Note that i did not play FF 6 as well as 3 and 8. I played FF 13 but never finished it since i did not like it that much but the visuals are so good and the music is nice (plus Lightning is just great) that i feel like giving it another chance.
Fair enough. I have heard that The Zodiac Age does improve the game. I do plan on playing it to see if my opinion on the it changes. As well as now that I have trophies to go for, I’ll be sure to 100% the game this time around. And thanks for sharing your list! And I definitely would consider giving XIII another shot if you truly want to!
Final Fantasy 13 isn't a terrible game, but I understand why it's so hated. It's just so linear, combat, exploring, upgrading classes, etc... everything. The only redeeming qualities were the music and the way they kept introducing new elements to the game as you progressed.
Fun facts. Ff1 stats level ups are random. Ff15 should have had more to do with the forts. Ff13 part 1 suffered from misrepresentation as being shown as action like 15. Ff7 remake is connected to the original PS1 game.
I have always had a _very_ hard time getting into X. I got it a year after it came out, when I was 12 in 2002. I’ve come back to it probably six or seven times, but I can never get more than a few hours - it’s all for one reason, the voice acting. I’ve heard praise for the depth and weight of the story, but I can’t get into it due to the voice acting and I don’t understand how people think it’s acceptable. I may try again after I beat 16… anyway, I enjoyed your list, even though I disagree with a LOT of it lol
That’s fair lol. It is extremely quirky. I guess for me it just gives the game charm? That’s my best guess. Or maybe I’m just used to awkward things 😂. But yes, once you get passed the voice acting, the story is really good! At least in my personal opinion. Anyways, I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
So, I will say, I don't hate anyone for liking FFXV. I too like eating a heavy carb meal and feeling empty once I'm done with it, so I'm forced to eat more. This is my main gripe with the regular game. I never felt like I had a reason to do any of the side content besides experiencing more of the world, which I honestly didn't care for since a lot of the side content felt samey after a while. The person who pitched the idea that every character outside of Noctis should have their character development behind DLC is also fucking hilariously out of touch. If you don't do any of the the DLC, you don't get to experience that extra growth. So I always felt like I was disconnected from Noct and the rest of the homies outside of "Getting a new recipeh" and "The ultimate flavour experience". The only other major contender for what is discussed about more than the Bromance is Ardynn...ok. Not gonna go into spoilers but I will say that people only like him cause he's a smarmy, carefree bastard kinda dude...basically take Loki from Thor and make him into a FF char. Outside of that, the story is forgettable, except for a few parts which are cool cause you don't have to play the actual game and instead go Super Saiyan. I honestly don't even remember what Chapter 13 was about. Also, Warpstrike mashing is ridiculously overpowered and the Royale edition gives you a sword with a bonus to warpstrikes. I had to replace my controller midway through the story cause my Triangle button broke. Other nit picky bits like lack of actual FF elements, main one being the magic system, or lack there of. Summons being how they are, as mainly a story thing I can understand, but I'm sure 16 will do it leagues better. As stated earlier, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of where to put this game in a tier list, just as long as it's below FF2 which is objectively a better gaming experience than XV was. Honestly, best thing to come out of FFXV is that multiplayer game that has nothing to do with any of the main characters than takes place during the "Dark Times" or whatever that was called.
6 is fantastic. For being an older RPG, I can see why so many people love it to this day. The characters are amazing and the story hits hard. I am fully aware that this is known to be either one of or the best Final Fantasy game in the series. Hence, I really enjoyed it so it’s ranked very high on this list. However, it all boiled down to personal preference. As stated in the video, a lot of what happens in ten hits home for me. The characters may have not been as deep as 6, but learning about the world outside the characters was enough to keep me engaged. Watching these people go against everything they know about their world and act against it was wonderful to watch. That might not be for everyone, but it hit very close to home for me. Also, as stated in the video, its combat is my personal favorite in the series. Making it very fun to play for me. I understand that a lot of people love the ATB system and I love it too, but I personally enjoy tens combat because I could think and strategize without having to worry about what I needed to do before the enemy attacks again. It’s my personal preference of playing turn based RPGs. And while the sphere grid system isn’t the traditional leveling system, I liked how it spiced up character customization. Once again, as stated, ten isn’t perfect. No game on earth is perfect. But in the end, it just boils down to the gamer and what they enjoy. Sidenote: I’m very excited to try tactics
I’ve actually had a lot of people ask me about this, the DS remake was the only available version I could play at the time. I have a pinned comment where I explain myself on why the DS remakes are here 😊
That moment when you realize the game you picked up for $10 years ago is worth over $100 now lol. Talking about FFVI Advance. It's in a very nice condition to.
I pretty much agree with you with all of them except 15 and 10. 15 was such a staggering let down for me and 10 is honestly overrated in my eyes. But one thing I think everyone can agree on is that FF was at it's best when it was turn based. There's something so satisfying about turn based and the only game that's been able to fill that experience I had with FF7 has been Persona 5.
True lol. I definitely think people’s criticisms are valid, but it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It just comes down to different preferences in video games lol. 13 might not have been my favorite, but I still think it was a blast to play through non the less and I’m glad I did 😊
Good to know! Thanks!

The whole backstory of the protagonists is changed, they even have names now.
@@Justagamerhere1agree that ff8 should get a remake but this comment is accurate and hilarious 😂
i think the story was told fine, but the battle system could use a minor touch up
@kevinblah6877i dont know what they were thinking when they designed the draw system and equipping magic to boost your stats. 1) drawing magic is extremely tedious and a brain dead mechanic and 2) i’ve never seen a system designed more to discourage actually using your magic than this one. oh you wanna use this spell? sure, instead of costing MP we’ll just make your character weaker then 🤡
ultimecia is rinoa and no one will tell me differently (including the creators of the game)
FF6 is the greatest game ever made. People who haven’t played it, need to. This deserves a remake more than any other. If done right, it could be phenomenal. Adding extras that will actually be fun to see and play.
6 is truly a legendary game! I do think it deserves a remake!
@CantusTropus see I actually hate all the high res sprites. I like the Nez, Snez, GBA versions or nothing 😅
"I hear Chronotrigger is pretty good" is the understatement of the Millenia Fair lol

Man I was with you until 15 was in the top 5....to each their own though! Good video
im playing fifteen, and its the best after 9.IMO of course. but its also im way more into dungeon crawlers and stuff now and it feels like a western arpg dungeon crawler
@@truevudderhutz3482 Dungeons crawlers are challenging 15 barely had dungeons. And 15 above 10? I don't even like 10 much but that's devil talk
This man has the whole fan base coming after him
😂 I guess so. But hey I enjoy hearing other people’s opinions so I guess we will see how this goes.
Not because of my own preferences but because he said he was going to be judging them based on mostly gameplay mechanics to then say "I have issues with this but maybe that's because I didn't bother the learn the mechanics."
Which is fine if you don't want to put effort into learning a games systems, however if you are ranking them based on the systems and gameplay then learning proper utilization of those systems is necessary to give fair judgement. FF8 is a great example because that game is ONLY grindy if you don't learn the systems.
That’s how you know he shard an actual person opinion, gotta love it!
FF8 Triple triad is what makes you OP though, you’re playing the game all wrong. FF 12’s gameplay was the best part about that game
Totally fair! And yes, I absolutely love the music in these games. I am a sucker for music in video games!
@@zentfan
Love your passion. I go 6, 9, 4, 7, 10, 15, 13, 8. Those are all the games I've played. X is a great first choice though, my friend!
My personal top 3 mainline games:
1. FF 5
2. FF9
3. FF6
Top 3 worst FF:
1. FF13
2. FF15
3. FF2
I have a love/hate relationship with FF2 and FF8
Personal ranking:
7 (Best Story, World, Characters, Weak combat and progression by today's standards, Fun postgame chocobo breeding, Second best airship - Highwind.) >
10 (All around solid, Best Progression, I can still get into 10 today unlike 1-9.) >
8 (Best music, Story is completely nuts but I like it, Very breakable progression, Going to space, Flying balamb garden, Best airship - Ragnarok.) >
9 (Very solid game minus Last Boss being kinda lame, Second best music, Chocobo hot and cold and card games were actually good.) >
Tactics (Great Progression, Mixing and matching jobs is very fun, I can still enjoy this game today, which makes it the oldest FF game I can still get into.) >
12 (Combat and party setup is quite good, Characters are mostly meh.) >
15 (Likable characters, Beautiful world, Story has good elements. I feel like FF15 came THIS close to being amazing and being like top 3, but it feels like they tried to copy FF7's feeling of loss but then gave the character they killed off zero screentime for me to care whatsoever when they die.) >
13 (Corridors, No meaningful Progression till late game, Least favorite characters, Story is pretty good I guess?)
Played 2, 4, 5 and 6 but didn't finish them.
Solid list man! I like seeing people's personal rankings of games in a series. Fun video and enjoyed watching it. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
1. FF10

10. FF12

FF13 is the last game I ever preordered.
Taught me a very valuable lesson.
15 was the last full price game I paid. Learned my lesson. I had no issues with buying 13. It was mediocre but at least it has a fun battle system
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject I liked 15 far more than 13
I beat 15 multiple times. I've started multiple 13 playthroughs, but I've never actually finished it.
@@randalthor2859 finished both. 15 made me lose faith in the series. I'm even skeptical of 16 because of it. 13 was decent but nothing special
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject 13 was flat out boring lol. You're entitled to your opinion I guess, but I never really asked 😅
It made a big show of being flashy, but there wasn't any real substance to the game. It was limited at every turn, and frankly playing it was just obnoxious. The amount of time required to grind was obscene for a single player game. Most fans of the series think 13 is the worst game in the series, and with good reason.
Because it is.
@@randalthor2859 delusional
I played it 3 months ago and it was one of the worst JRPGs I played, and I played them all.
XV is great, I agree, haters on the game are funny.
Ff8 was the one I played the most of. Nostalgia glasses are thick and i readily admit it. It's by far my favorite. Ff10 was my second favorite
"It feel like he was child throwing a temper tantrum"
I mean...You're not wrong...
I like how you’re calling him Leon instead of Squall. Personally, I prefer to call him Leon.
I love ff 13 honestly, I’m glad you put it higher than most others. I watched my
Brothers and cousins play 7 and 8 when I was young back on PlayStation 1 lol. I gotta play a lot of ff10 but never beat it but ff13 came out right around when I was a teenager and I loved playing it.
Heads up, Final Fantasy XIV completely changed how the free trial works so you'll want to be careful with your "free trial."
Recently they made a program where you can play all of both A Realm Reborn and Heavensward as a "Free Player." As long as you never become a paid player there is no time limit on how long this free trial lasts. The catch is that if you become a paid player, you loose access to the free trial.
I believe the 30 days you got with your copy is basically 30 days as a paid player, so you will want save it until after you beat the new free trial.
Thanks for the heads up!
This video deserves a lot more love, ignore the toxicity, people are allowed to have opinions without being trashed. Im hoping to make my own video about these soon too 😁
I appreciate that! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’d love to check out yours when it comes out!
Mobius, or Crisis Core, or XIV and it's 5 Expansions, or XV,, or Dissidia, or Type-0, or World of FF, or Strangers of Paradise, or REMAKE, or REBIRTH, etc
Back then, we had SO FEW FINAL FANTASY games.
We are so spoiled now! Golden Age of FINAL FANTASY!!
FF10 is my #1 as well.
I started with 7, 8, 9, 5, 6, 10 in that order
FF12 has a ton of hidden side quests / weapon quests. They aren't obvious at all. Also a lot of hidden espers / summons.

Final Fantasy 14 is my favorite in the series so I do recommend trying it! I understand it being online is a turnoff for you, but the story is worth it, it has one of the best, if not THE best story in the series.

i love ffx so much. i have replayed it many times and i never get tired of it. for so long i didn't realize that people had problems with it being a linear game because... well, it makes sense in the context of the story. you're on a linear journey, a literal pilgrimage. you have a very specific starting and ending point, and you have specific spots you need to hit on the way. you could make that work in an open world setting, sure, but the linear design fits it. also, best romance in the series. also, the music is so incredible. i know people get sick of the battle theme but if you just listen to it as an independent piece of music, wow, what a composition. and the whole soundtrack has several recurring motifs which i love. just a wonderful game overall and i always think of it fondly.
Every single mainline FINAL FANTASY game!
Obligatory “I’m not going to play XI or XIV”.
In any fair ranking list they are #1 and #2.
Unfortunately it was not in the cards at the time of me making this list, but with people telling me about trying them for free, I’m definitely looking forward to it!
Final fantasy 14 is in my top 3 Final Fantasy stories of all time. It's amazing
Man, 14 is amazing. Probably my number one or two spot next to part six on my list
If we count the sequels to each of the mainline Final Fantasy games, I’ll put Stranger of Paradise and the After Years in the bottom, while Crisis Core and XIII-2 are in the top.
you must be some kind of speedrunner god if you're doing Midgar in an hour, for newbies it can go up to 7 hours, about 30% of the game
I will definitely watch what I say for this stuff from now on
Interesting. The FF12 soundtrack is one of my favorite OST's of all time lol
Same
Man people are shitting on FF15 that game is great as a long time FF fan who's also played all the main game, 15 was one of the best FF games, the story was fantastic, incorporating both the imperialistic themes FF uses, while also integrating the metaphysical themes FF story is known for and they interweave the both of them fantastic, the only other game that did that, was FF6 and 9, even then 9 didn't focus on a bigger picture story until like the second disc I believe it's been a while
Junction system is may be my favorite among the FF series, and Triple Triad is pretty core mechanics-wise to the game as well.
I thought that this was a channel with 135,000 subs - when i saw it was only 135 i was shocked! take my sub good sir!!

@@operationgamer5879 yes this was so goooood
XI and XIV should be in the top five in no particular order due to both of them being that good in their own right.
I'd love the battle theme ranking!!
FFX will always hold a special spot in my heart!
While I definitely have some differing opinions along the way, I think it's good that you articulated your own points and why you put things where you did. Sure, that's the premise of the video, but you'd be surprised how many people can't do that. For me, personally, my list goes something like this:
FF6 > FF8 = FF10 > FF4 > FF9 > FF7 > FF5 > FF12 > FF13 > FF15.
Really hard for me to rank the FF games because they are all damn good in there own ways. Its like ranking a masterpiece to another masterpiece
That’s totally fair! Each game is great in their own ways. That’s what makes the series so interesting!
I actually have started it (after some minor hiccups) and it’s fun so far! Will be doing a follow up vid when I beat the main story

Came here to see how low FF8 would be on the list, and to see what was in last place and what was in first, hahaha. Good choice with FF10, that's an awesome game. And FF15 is WAY WAY too high on your list, that game is a mess.

Also, every song you played in this video can be found in 14....
I haven't even played all of them, but I know you're right. 10, 6 and 7 are easily the best ones. I like turn based, so I'm biased though.
I actually like this ranking. I would only switch 7's place with 9. So for me it goes like this; 9, 6, 10
I love 13 I don't care what other people say. It's good to me and for 15 I like 15 gameplay wise but story wise It's ok
My issue with 13 is there was quite a bit of necessary information that's just not there if you don't go digging for it.
That’s a totally fair criticism. There was a lot of information that wasn’t explained very well
Aww, ff3 is in last, I will admit, it's not the best game not by a long shot, but it was my intro into the franchise, so for me it holds a special place in my heart.
I could accept the XIII ranking. But that XV ranking....ooooooof. I'd much rather play XIII than XV, let alone over my boy IV. lol. And IX!
I completely disagree about sidequesting in FFXII, game has to be 30% and 70% sidequest
I played it a few years after launch so I’m guessing it was post patch
Favorite 6....by far it's soo underrated
Final Fantasy 12 is either your favourite game or you hate it, there is no in between. Personally it's my favourite by far.
My top games would be
1. FF9
2. FF10
3. FF14
4. FF15
I haven't played 1-6 so I don't have an opinion on those.
FF16 is really good so far!
Nice! I highly recommend trying them out! The pixel remasters are great in representing them. Also, I agree! I love 16 so far
Thank you for the support on the ranking! I’m glad you’re giving other games a shot!
Man i wish you played FFV but the GBA version, being far superior to any version prior and with a proper translation unlike the ps1 or snes version while having extra juicy content post game is really fun, a bit salty that FF13 got higher than V but im still happy for the praise you gave it
As for FF15 i can see why a lot of ppl in the comments section is giving you a lot of crap, most of the fanbase played the base game and not the completed version (which is actually a whole different beast), the infamous chapter 13 on release was super long and also the ring was kind of useless/weak, on the royal version they shortened the routes in ch13 and made the ring strong as it should be lore wise, even tho i do love FF15 and pretty much agree with your ranking (we have it in the same place actually) i only wish it had the movie and anime OVAs lore built ingame and that the DLCs were made into the base game too, there are parts that doesnt make sense on the main story until you play the characters DLCs, but other than that, FF15 will always remain as one of my top FF on my opinion
My ranking would go:
6, 10, 5, 15, 4, 9, 1, 7, 8, 12, 13, 2, and 3
I havent played FF11 and absolutely loved 14 but i dont put them in the ranking because i feel they are different experiences compared to the usual single player ones
Most Final Fantasy fans place FF2 dead last. It’s refreshing to see Final Fantasy 2 higher on your list.
this is immediately a great video cause you didn’t put 13 at the bottom, tired of the same old safe opinions
I appreciate that a lot! I definitely have some unpopular opinions, but that’s what makes these videos so much fun to make and watch. I always like to experience the game for myself and develop my own opinions on it instead of going along with whatever Twitter says lol. It’s what makes gaming so fun!
Good stuff guy. I like the 3d ones for sure I started with 7. They're all great though. 16 as far as story goes so far has blown my fuckin mind.
Same here lol. I’m only two hours in on stream and I love it!
Very emotional video I laughed, I cried and I shitted my pants
😂😂😂
My top 7 would go something like this:
1. FF 10
2. FF 9
3. FF 12
4. FF 4
5. FF 5
6. FF 15
7. FF 7 (i know its very popular but the materia system is not my favorite and i rather have a job system. Plus Every map felt so short so i am glad it was expanded in the remake)
Note that i did not play FF 6 as well as 3 and 8.
8 on the 11 place ur out of ur mind its one of the best with 6,7,9 and 10 all of this 5 games on my top 5 for sure
The best final fantasy is tactics by far. And 10 over 6? What are you on???
For ff14 you can play the first 3 expansion in the free trial.
Thought you said no remakes but you put FFIII remake there?
I’ve actually had a lot of people ask me about this, the DS remake was the only available version I could play at the time. I have a pinned comment where I explain myself on why the DS remakes are here 😊
That moment when you realize the game you picked up for $10 years ago is worth over $100 now lol. Talking about FFVI Advance. It's in a very nice condition to.
It’s crazy! I’ve been looking for a copy and it’s hard to find one under $100 😂
I pretty much agree with you with all of them except 15 and 10. 15 was such a staggering let down for me and 10 is honestly overrated in my eyes. But one thing I think everyone can agree on is that FF was at it's best when it was turn based. There's something so satisfying about turn based and the only game that's been able to fill that experience I had with FF7 has been Persona 5.
Yo, when you find someone who says 13 isn't that bad. It's so hard to find people finding any form of positivity for my favorite FF game.
True lol. I definitely think people’s criticisms are valid, but it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It just comes down to different preferences in video games lol. 13 might not have been my favorite, but I still think it was a blast to play through non the less and I’m glad I did 😊
