  • Explore RMIT student and artist Mita Chowdhury’s Kantha, a slow art, collaborative artwork.
Kantha is the traditional hand-stitched, embroidered 'Quilt' of the subcontinent, especially in undivided Bengal (Bangladesh & West Bengal). It is generally made from recycled Saree’s (women's traditional attire). It’s a ritual that’s hundreds of years old.
Here at RMIT Kantha invited everyone to add their stitch, representing our diverse RMIT community. Students and staff joined Mita for a cup of tea and a chat at Kirrip and Orientation. You can see the final Kantha hanging in Kirrip Place, City Campus.
"This project is supported by the Cultural Visions Grant and presented in collaboration with RMIT Culture, and RMIT Student Life."
