By sharing your thoughts Your videos give me so much information . Ideas about mixing and matching products. And how to maximize your waves and curls. I have seen a lot of videos but yours are the best . Without being gimmicky.

I have to admit, I don't see the point of the 123 Gel method, unless I've bought a gel that doesn't work for me so I'm trying to make it work. Combining a mousse/foam with a gel or a hairspray I can understand but 3 gels in one go? On purpose? Why not just pick the one gel that actually works for my hair/climate? Anyway, I loved listening to your reasoning behind picking these gels to try the method however.

Yes, I definitely enjoy combining gels with mousses/foams and/or hairspray. I’ve been doing that since cosmetology school. It works really well because they do different things and are formulated differently. It was interesting to try this method though. Thank you for watching!

Interesting that you say that. I have never managed to get good hold from a single gel, when I tried the 123 gel method it was the first time i got lasting hold!

Years ago when I 1st started layering gels, I used the biolage one, then the Paul Mitchell super clean sculpting gel, topped with a cocktail of the 2. (Like I had mentioned before) Idk why I decided to do it that way, but it worked beautifully! Still love that to this day. I think those 2 work well because the 1st one has the PV/DA (or whatever the letters are) high up on the ingredients along with agave for moisture, and the 2nd one has film formers higher up, followed by proteins, and then the 4 letter holding ingredient. They pair really well, especially in humidity.

You’ve mentioned that combo before. Makes me really want to try the Paul Mitchell one.

@@CurlyChelle547 The only reason I even initially bought it was during a 3 for $10 travel size sale Ulta had and I needed a 3rd product lol. It's a big travel size though, 3.4 oz I believe. I ended up buying 3 more of just those since it worked out to $10 for more than 10 oz of gel. I wasn't expecting much from it, I'd never used their stylers before.

@@VengefulAngeI so an impulse purchase turned into an unexpected gem! I love that! I’ve never tried any Paul Mitchell. I don’t even know why.

I literally always use at least 2 hold products, sometimes 3 - but when I use 3, I prefer one of them to be a foam or mousse. (Lately foam, I haven't used mousse in forever). Usually gel, foam, gel with the final gel being just a light glaze over everything else. If I use just 2, I sometimes use 2 gels, sometimes a gel and a foam.
I've done the 123 gel method a few times, and each time I used different combos and each time I got very different results. Once was amazing, once was meh, and once was crapola. Oddly enough, it was the 1st one that gave me great results, but by the time I wanted to try it again I had forgotten which 3 I had used LOL. But truthfully I've gotten equally amazing results using just 2 gels, or gel & foam, or gel, foam gel.

Yeah, I’ve used two gels before and I’ve used gel with foam or mousse (which I love!) and I definitely think I’ve gotten better results that way. But who knows, there might be a winning combo just waiting for me to find it! Don’t you hate when you do find something that gives amazing results and then you forget what you used?! It’s almost like we need a spreadsheet for this! Wait a minute… might be on to something here. 😂😂

I think Swavy Curly Courtney used to keep a hair journal with the products she used each wash day and the dew points and how her hair turned out. That’s a little intense for me. I usually can’t even finish doing my hair before I have to head out for the day, but I bet it would be really helpful for remembering those amazing product combos.

@@catherineflores7106 I think you’re right. And she measures everything. That’s definitely not gonna happen. Recording products used for a bomb wash day would be really helpful but if I’m being real here, I’m just not that organized. 😂😂

Ty for sharing! I want to try this. The hardest hold gel I have is Giovanni LA Hard Hold. My favorite gel has become the Ouidad Twist Weather Up gel! Ty so much for suggesting it for a glycerine free gel that works well in high dew points. I have been using that with the Curlsmith Foam. They work well together & give me 3 days between washings! Yay!!! I still want to try the Biolage gel. Its next on my list! Ty again for your advice. LOVE your videos! Blessings!

I didn’t love the Giovanni gel. I felt like it didn’t have much hold at all for me and left my hair kind of dry. Which is so weird because everyone on here says it’s a super hard hold gel and lots of curly/wavies swear by it. I’ve been using it on my boys’ hair since it didn’t work for me and they don’t get hard hold either. 🤷‍♀️
