    My current job isn’t my dream job and I’ve been struggling mentally just showing up everyday. But I keep reminding myself (& my therapist reminds me) this is just another step in the process for me to pursue my passion or my life long career. So essentially I’m trying to leverage my 9-5 as long as possible and have a realistic exit strategy. Can’t wait for your merch! 🤗🎉

    I love the disclaimer about working in corporate America and it not being your passion. My current job as a health pro consultant isn’t my dream job, but I keep in mind it’s helping me further my skills and allowing me to network. I do passion projects outside of work to balance my personal desires. 💕

    Love your WFH vlogs! I've been out of college and working for 20 years now. While I enjoy the type of work I do and find it interesting, it's not necessarily my passion. It provides me with a salary and stability that allows me to pursue hobbies and interests outside of work. But I think it's awesome if someone is able to turn their dreams and passions into their job!

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому +1

      Agreed! IF someone can pursue a passion then great, but I think a lot of us are aimlessly pursuing our “passions” without fully knowing what we’re passionate about or taking the time to reflect on our values- it takes work and time to figure it out. I think we need to give ourselves the time and grace to not rush the process.

  • @chloreee

    ok I NEED your WFH comfy clothing sets
    I feel like even if you do find a job you LOVE, there will still be days where you don't want to work or have to deal with working. I think every job has moments of burnouts and overall "I'm not happy today" in it, but I think it's whatever works for you. If you can quit a job you aren't happy with then by all means. Also in some cases in jobs we might not like up front (such as an entry level position), if you stick it out you might come to actually love it!

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому

      omg I love them so much ❤️ linked above!
      I agree, all jobs have pros and cons! Everything you said is on point. I think most people who begin careers out if college at entry level positions should stick it out for atleast a couple of years (unless it’s toxic or like you said you have something better lined up) Bc you might later love it or you can atleast leverage the experience!

    I get to chill and drink my tea with Selena! Shes always bringing up important topics we lose motivation for or need to change how we approach it. We can make our dreams come true! No matter the age. Praying definitely helps to keep that desire going but how to do it… is a different story! I can confidently say I don’t want to work a 9-5 job all my life but right now, I don’t have a choice! That’s okay! I understand it’s go to have a trade, a skill, a degree that helps in the long run. I want to finish school!

    Loving these vlogs, Thank you for making them :) agree with you on the work front, sometimes it’s not feasible to quit your job and pursue your “passion”. However also agree with you on leaving toxic environments if you need to. I recently left my job which looked great and prestigious from the outside but was making me miserable because I was working 24/7. Took a massive pay cut but I’m excited to try a role where I can hopefully have more control over my time and work life/ balance. Hope everything is going well with your job and thanks again for making these fab vlogs!

    I'm a millennial and we hop around because we're not given as many opportunities to get raises and promotions. It seems like a lot of employers aren't looking too deep into it anymore because of that, but it may just be the case for tech. I'm not sure about other industries.
    I would definitely advise against not being methodical about going from one job to the next. If it isn't completely horrible, get what you can get out of it.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому +9

      I do think it is smart to not stay at a job for 10+ years, it's proven that people who move jobs every 3 or so years have higher incomes since they can negotiate higher salaries! I meant more so people like me who have been at a job for 2 years or less but want to quit simply bc it's not our life passion, I don't think that's a good enough reason, especially when taking into account our life / career in the long term :)

    • @Leedah8
      @Leedah8 2 роки тому +1

      @@SelenaTrevino Yup! I absolutely have to agree with you on that. It makes you seem unstable, and no company would want to work with someone like that.

    • @accountforwastingtime
      @accountforwastingtime 2 роки тому +5

      yup! I've had to do some job hopping to get away from a couple of very toxic/bullying situations and honestly I've rarely gotten interrogated about being somewhere less than a year or two. Ironincally, I have been asked before why I stayed in a job "so long" (it wasn't even that long, like maybe 2 years) if I realized I wanted to get into something else lol many jobs these days are not even designed for someone to stay for years, companies can't afford to pay someone for their 10-15+ years experience anymore and many times you don't actually need that much experience to do the job.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому +2

      exactly! It’s the cold hard truth. Although the goal is to someday work for myself, sacrifices have to be made first. And patience is a virtue.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому +2

      Agreed! I think it truly depends on your industry. If you work in retail or fast fashion it doesn’t make sense to “stuck it out” and stay long term to build experience that you could easily build elsewhere. However, if you’re a new lawyer out if law school and get a job at a good firm but don’t think it’s your passion, I’d say stick it out for a couple years, gain the experience ñ, the credibility with clients & network while your there to leverage that knowledge for the next job.
      Truly depends on industry/occupation. No advice can ever be 100% universal, in my opinion!

    Hi Selena! First off, so excited for your merch! I think it's so cool that you get the opportunity to learn about being a small business owner through these experiences. So proud of you! Also my thoughts on finding your passion for work...I just thinking the idea of pursuing a career you're passionate about suggests that you will always love what you're doing and reality is that there will always be hard times in any passion centered career. How ever I do admire people who pursue a career out of passion rather than financial security. Most of us are trying to live our best lives and sometimes it's scary to pursue unsafe routes. I also think we live in a time where there are all kinds of jobs. It's hard to know what to choose. And although I think it great to job hop and experiment, there is value in sticking to a job for some time. Definitely toughens the mind. As always, love your chats 💞

A job is a job and you make what you can of it. But being said if your job is making you miserable and waiting so bad to log off maybe there’s a better fit out there that could excite you! That’s how I try to look at it ❤️‍🔥🥰 loved this vlog as always bb

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому +1

      I agree, I don’t think there’s a perfect job, all jobs require work, some jobs also provide fulfillment though and it looks different on everyone. I think the way you look at it is good, I think if someone is miserable it’s probably not a good fit at all and it’s ok to look for another job. I guess the conversation is more so that it’s a privilege to be able to find a job that you’re not miserable in and a for a lot of people it’s not feasible. Also that I think that even if you are miserable it’s important to stick with it long enough to gain something out of it to later move on to something better. Not too long, but for me the goal is 2 years. Then with that experience under your belt it’s easier to go around looking for a better fit. If that makes sense, love you ❤️

    Your videos are so relaxing to watch. I can’t explain it. I watch it to get motivated & I also watch it to relax. Lol I’m a consultant who’s probably going to go back into government work 🌚 I quite like the set up and hierarchy structure and the way you can just move up from seniority. I’m not exactly passionate about one thing; i like to jump around and do multiple things. I like my field but it isn’t my entire life, so I want my work to reflect that sentiment. I also value security. Idc about work, I just need it to be stable & relatively low-moderate stress. I loved your take on work just being a means to make $$$. I agree lol - as long as you’re not miserable, why quit, unless you have a better opportunity or plans to start something else.

    In a way a job that has to do with your passion can definitely help with your mental health..but we also have to be realistic on always having to pursue your passion in a job, because sometimes you need a job to help invest in your passion and that can pay your bills in order to be independent....at least that’s how I think about it.

    I see work as an inescapable part of life. If someonw has passion for their job that's great, but I think the media sets an unrealistic expectation (especially for young professionals) that that will happen right away and if it doesn't you should quit. Like you said, there are so many other avenues for passion outside work. I also agree that sticking with a job shows you're reliable and willing to stick it out.
    Can't wait to see your merch 😍

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому

      EXACTLY. It's unrealistic. DO I think one should give up on their dreams or passions? Of course not! IF someone finds their passion and career in their first job, I am ecstatic for them! If someone pursues their side hustle for years on end until they can make their dream a reality, great! I just can't with the unrealistic idea that we should all pursue our passion or we should give up. 1. because then there's this expectation that we all figure out what our passion is. Many millennial are struggling with this because we can't decide what we're passionate about or better said, what career we're passionate about. Because realistically, if every single person quit and only did what they're passionate about, we likely wouldn't function as a society. Is every garbage man/woman passionate about their career? likely not. Maybe some of them, but not all of them. This can be said about any career honestly, doesn't matter if it is blue collar or white collar. This was just to make an illustration. If everyone quit, we wouldn't have people in customer service, garbage/disposal, construction, law, business, etc. Because many people don't need their career to be their passion, but just see it as a means to live, and that's perfectly okay.

    @angelicalopez1966 2 роки тому +1

    Hi! First time ever watching you and I LOVED your discussion about having a job that you do not love & being a millennial. Literally so true what you said. I work (also studied economics & finance for my masters) and as a women, as a minority and as a community member- I work because I need to because I need to pay bills and because this is how the world works. Without people in professions we would have nothing left to consume, use, explore and educate. Working is a privilege and a hard one that my immigrant parents had fought for. We can find other joys in life and if our job provides that for us then great but a job is a job and it doesnt need to make you fulfilled. We should provide a service that helps others and being good at what we do as career women in a "traditional" job is more valuable and honorable than most people can say these days. Keep going girl loving your energy & drive!

    My current job is not my dream job. Though there are things in my job that I truly do enjoy and hope to have more of in a future job, there are also parts where my values don't align with it which makes me struggle. With that being said I don't believe that there is that "perfect" job that checks all of the boxes at once. I doubt that I will find a job that means the world to me, that I can call my passion, but I am working on being okay with that and choosing to spend my energy and as much of my life as I can on the other parts of my life that do bring me joy and passion.❤️

    I tooootally agree with everything you said about work!! I of course respect people who can quit their job and follow their dreams but I think its important to keep your day job, just for that stability and income. I believe in keeping your career so you can afford to put time into your hobbies!! :) for example, I am in school studying neuropsychology which is something I love dont get me wrong but my hobbies include making UA-cam videos and social media!! I love what I am studying and am excited for my career however I would never quit my career to pursue social media just because I personally feel more comfortable with having a career and having that stability that if the internet disappears tomorrow I still have a means of living.

    This vlog definitely was what I needed! Working in Corporate America is not for everyone. Its great job security (for most places) but it is very draining - on both professional and personal level. I have been wanting to quit my job or at least get out of this department for awhile now and it's either I move up the latter or move to the next job. But I feel like this: why leave a job with great benefits for a job with no benefits? IDK. Im all over the place, but thank you for sharing this vlog! Sending much love. 🤎

    Currently i’m working in finances (relationship banker) and as the child of immigrants, i feel forced to have a good job to make it worth their sacrifices. it’s a good, respectable job, but it’s definitely not a passion. maybe i’m too young to actually know what my passion is because i feel lost? i don’t take the time to actually go and look for it. i definitely don’t dream of labor but i know i’m in a good place for only being 21 and me wanting to live lavishly has to be attained somehow 😂

    Totally agree about the job thing. I think our generation is so spoiled into thinking that your job should not be any work ar all, if that makes sense. Its is all about want-want-want and about rights but nothing about needs and obligations. We should enjoy life of course but working a job is a part of it and I just really do not understand the mentality of “I don’t like so I won’t do it.” There are plenty of things that I don’t like but I have to do it. I think this is also more so American thing than anything else. Like I cannot imagine people my age quitting their jobs because they don’t like it. It happens of course, but not so much. And this whole issue is not really talked about here much. I think here people understand that job is a means to an end and everybody has to work, so they go to their jobs and live their life quite comfortably.

    • @SelenaTrevino
      @SelenaTrevino  2 роки тому

      Yes I think it’s very much an American and millennial thing (combination of the two). But I also think it’s more complex. I do believe that jobs are a means to an end for many, for example, immigrants in the USA know jobs are a means to an end and they are some of the most hard working people. But those of us that have the privilege to choose, well, it’s more complicated. I guess because we have SO many choices, it’s hard to choose? Idk if that made sense haha

    • @TheBetci15
      @TheBetci15 2 роки тому

      @@SelenaTrevino I totally agree, it is also related to the history and the mindset of people. Like in the US with the immigrants. For us in Czech Republic for a long time we lived in a communism and everyone had to have a job. That was just given. You either worked a job they gave you or you went to jail. So I think that is another reason why people here sometimes stick in bad jobs because that it how it was for our parents and so it was kinda “normal.” And it takes time go lose that mentality.

    I think that it is great to work, be able to provide for yourself, help people , fund your dreams, and so much more. But I also think that we should not look down on people who take “untraditional” routes as long as it is pleasing to Jesus Christ or look down on people who have 9-5s.

    Do you ever worry someone at your job will find you online and hear how you feel about your job and your future? People don't get hired for positions because of what they say and do online all the time. I don't see this as anything different when you have a current job. I'm assuming you're not on any contract or anything because how you talk about your job and uncertainty of DC would cause someone in leadership to not renew. Just sayin. You sound overall like you try to be positive. But the tone conveyed about the job and DC sounds very miserable most of the time. That's my perception any way. I think people appreciate honesty, but when you need a paycheck, too much honesty is a real thing and what you share about your personal life...even your mental health can 1000% impact situations at your job and if certain things are not disclosed in writing and maybe it falls into the terms of your employment and they find out online...they also can find a loophole to move you to another area or find a way to push you out. I'd tread real careful with that.
