My wife surprised me last year with this coat, it has become my favorite winter coat, it’s like wearing the most comfortable wool blanket around.
Man, that’s the Yukon pimp’s coat. You wear that in downtown Yellowknife when you’re checking on your stable of working girls. Keep that hand strong, Jack!
This is entirely too funny. This has no business being this comical 😂😂😂
Beautiful coat. Pimp of the north!
Thanks for making this fucking video lol
Honey wake up, new Wild For Wool video
I have this in green but this color is so nice
Same here. Went to Filson to buy the rust buffalo like he’s wearing in this video, but they had the green in stock in my size, and well, I went with it and love it. That said, I kind of want his, too, but I definitely don’t have the finances for both.
The polyester sleeve is nice as it won't snag your clothing if wearing multiple wool layers unlike the cruisers.
The cotton lining, I'm a bit torn on it. The risk from a survival aspect makes sense, but it's something I have never experienced even from all my years wearing a cotton-lined waxed jacket in winter.
That said, it feels like a low-activity jacket to begin with. Something you shouldn't be working up much of a sweat in. Something you do a lot of sitting and standing around with. Not like the mackinaw cruisers.
That said, I really enjoy wearing mine. Certainly not one for the faint of heart. It's heavy, bulky and stands out.
I'm so jealous! I love that colour and pattern.
Great looking coat. I almost purchased that version myself. I was weirded out by the cotton, flannel lining. Plus the Coat is EXPENSIVE! I might have preferred a Removable, quilted nylon lining. { I don't like nylon much but it dries fast, and if it was removable,... then I guess it would be fine. } I don't know how You manage to afford all of Your Filson Gear, but: CONGRATULATIONS! Good for You. I would love a Filson collection like Yours.
Yep was thinking the same thing!
Cool Coat. I have the Filson Mackinaw Cruiser Jacket in Black & Green, Buffalo Plaid. I Love it.
Great review - thinking of picking up one of these for the winter and it was really helpful.
I definitely want one! In your honest opinion, is it worth the price or could you recommend your favorite? Thank you.
For me personally it has been worth it. I love the coat. No complaints. Definitely expensive tho. So i guess it comes down to if it suits your needs and financial situation. My favourite two are this one and the double mackinaw. Thanks for watching!
Have the charcoal black/rope stripe. Amazing coat, but if they'd used the Alaskan guide flannel in the sleeve lining, I'd have sent it back. I hate fighting to get my arms into a coat because they didn't have the forethought not to use a high-friction fabric for sleeve lining. Look at any expensive overcoat or suit jacket. Filson made the right decision here, as usual.
Thank you for stating your height and weight at the end! We are the same and because you I can be sure to get the right size and how it'll look on me.
I have a charcoal unlined packer. Badass coat. Gets lots of compliments.
I just ordered a lined charcoal/rope stripe packer. I wish it wasn’t lined but really it’s a minor gripe and will still be a great coat. It will be my first Filson product so I’m very excited.
It's certainly not a jacket for the faint of heart. You certainly draw a lot of comments on it.
What's the jacket your wearing in the opening of your video? Looks like sheep skin
I saved and finally purchased a double Mac with the shear collar. It looked great but the wind cut right through it. I ended up selling it.
Do you know if it'll keep you warm at -30 to -40? I can't find a review anywhere mentioning how it rates at temps that low.
I just got another question similar to this on the double mackinaw. it’s currently minus 39 celsius right now as I’m replying. I was outside a couple hours ago taking some square straw bales to the animals and pitching hay to the horses, I was wearing the mackinaw wool anorak with a long sleeve wool base layer, a cotton button up shirt and sheepskin vest underneath I was very warm almost to warm I was starting to sweat. The double mackinaw or packer coat would be warmer than what I was wearing so I probably would have left the sheepskins vest out but still kept the base layer and button up. But.. there is no wind tonight. With a cold wind I’m sure I would have been colder because the wool isn’t the best protection against wind. Also if I was standing around not doing anything for the amount of time I was outside I would have gotten pretty cold even if I would have had the double mackinaw or packer on. So the temperature rating all depends on what you are going to be doing outside. And than you will need to layer accordingly to that activity. I could be standing around doing nothing at -15 and get cold but be doing chores being active at -40 and be warm. For weather like this if you want to know you will be warm my sheepskin is the warmest coat I have and protects against wind.
Great video keep up the amazing content!
Funny I was about to ask your height and weight before getting to the end. Thanks for vid. Cotton lining for me is an unfortunate deal breaker as I can't stand the idea of getting wet and impacting the insulating ability. Maybe they know something I don't and if that's the case I am happy to hear of how it wouldn't be a problem somehow. Guessing you prefer the medium to layer thick stuff under it. I wear a small with the double mac myself and am 175 5'11".
kan we get a update on the plow blade.. is it sharpe
they don’t have this color anymore… they have a brownish color… will they ever come back with this one???
For anyone ordering online. I wear medium in every other coat. 39R for blazers. Schott medium or 40R. I need an XS in Filson packer and most filson wool coats. A small in the Cover cloth woodland jacket.
Where did you get that black shirt? It looks really nice
It’s a filson mens western flannel shirt in black. It’s a button up that’s cut a bit slimmer. I love it. Thanks for watching!
Awesome Packer! I love the pattern! Also a correction all the packers are the same weight regardless of color.
I talked to customer service and the plaids are 26oz and the solids (green this year) is 24oz but thank you for the comment
Did you ever try your cowichan sweater underneath the packer?
Yes. It does fit but is a bit bulky. The guide sweater fits the nicest
Great jacket ... I have the Jac-shirt in this color way limited of 500.... best ever
I agree! I got one of those to! Video will be coming soon. Thank you for the comment
True, that's why I don't wear my lined jac shirts when doing physical activities in the winter. The cotton lining gets wet from the sweat, and gets cold after so I find the wool a little useless in that situation.
Would you say that a size M fits relaxed and is suitable even for guys with broader shoulders?
They say it’s a relaxed fit but if you are a true medium and want to layer and have broader shoulders you might find the shoulder area in a the coat a bit restrictive
What size is yours
Hey there, i posted a comment on your shearling jacket video, have you read it? Anyway, is this Packer coat still available from Filson? I mean this exact color scheme? I love your content man, keep it up. I am on the hunt for these three items: shearling jacket, Packer coat and goatskin gloves.
What size are you wearing?
Medium
The price for me in Canada is around 1200 with tax. Is it worth that much?
Did you pull the trigger on one? I used mine in our ice storm here in Texas last year where it was -2°F with -6° wind chill. Went walking & after half a mile had to drop the collar & open a chest button I was so hot with just a long sleeve flannel shirt underneath, so I’m sure I’d trust it well down to -30° with proper layering. In truth it really felt invincible
@@cvisenti I tried it on and I agree. It’s a nice coat. But def made for the cold cold. I couldn’t imagine wearing that coat in a typical Vancouver winter it’s almost overkill if be sweating haha but when I work up north it would be perfect. But it’s summer now and I’m lucky to live by the USA Canada border so I have two Filson stores pretty close by. Probably pick one up in a month or two when the weather isn’t so hot. I just wish it was a bit cheaper.
@@jessebooth2371 bought mine off eBay for $550US but still that’s a painful spend. Less painful after I put it to the test I must admit.
How do you store the coat for the summer time?
I’ve got a big plastic tote box I put all my Filson wool stuff into during off season. No critters can get in
I just hang it in my wooden wardrobe, as long as it’s dry and no bugs or mice can get to it, it should be fine.
I bought a Mackinaw Cruiser in L in store. I ordered the Mackinaw Packer in the same size and it fits much smaller. Pretty disappointed. Has anyone else had that problem with Filson sizes?? The size chart makes the Packer i ordered feel like it may be a Med by accident?? My cruiser is a perfect fit.
Same for me. My double mac is perfect in small, but had to return my green packer. It was a small but felt like an xs…
@@tonyrochette ordered an XL Packer. Fit is spot on!
There's really no consistency with Filson sizes.
My double mack fit's much bigger than my wool pack. My tin pack fits a little snugger than my double mack.
My tin cruisers fit entirely different. My mack cruisers are somewhat slimmer than everything else
subscribed, love your content sir.
Best drip for winter
I like your fucking videos 🍻👍
Such a nice coat
They are lining it with cotton now because Filson is catering to clientele that don't actually DO anything in their clothing. Okay, almost nothing, but like you said, in a survival situation - no good. That would have been sacrilege back in the day as an "Outfitter" company. Great fkn video!
Field geologist here. Wear Filson wool Mackinaw cruiser, tin cloth jackets, several other items, and this Packer in the field for work all the time. Cotton lining is not an issue. You sound like an armchair expert. Leave your mom's basement and get some work under your belt before you make embarrassing comments like this, son.
When the collar is up, it looks like that coat is giving birth to you.
Nice video. Thanks!
I personally would have sized up from that medium, as when I would wear something like this I would have a lot underneath.
I love it
I'm sorry, dude, but you're dead wrong about the cotton here. Cotton sucks as a thermal insulator when it forms the "loft" component of the garment. This is the reason waxed canvas is still used for parkas and why polished cotton is used for wool coats. Even if the cotton gets wet, the wool surrounding it will keep you warm. Also, a note about blended melton/mackinaw fabrics:
1. When synthetic fibers are incorporated, it's usually in the form of a monofilament core around which the wool is spun. This means thst the wool still acts like wool.
2. Melton is actually originally spun around a cotton yarn. Bear in mind, melton is what is used in navy PEA COATS.
3. The reason blended jackets are less warm is because they use less wool. The synthetic fibers aren't screwing anything up, it's just that instead of getting 24 ounces of wool per square yard, you're now getting 20. Just size up your fabric weight.
Love the coat, you have excellent taste.
I think you're misunderstanding what he is saying. The wool in the jacket is 100% wool. Not mixture.
However, the lining of the jacket is his concern. The liner in the torso is 100% cotton. The sleeves are 100% polyester.
Having 100% cotton next to skin can be a problem when it is wetted out in cold weather.
@@rustyshackleford17 you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. Put on a cotton sweater, soak yourself then put on a wool coat, you'll be warm in 5 minutes. I mentioned blends because that's usually what you get these days. So for people who 2ant something comparable for a lower price, they can.
I like it. I’m a tall guy.
Packer Coat is the stuff of Legend!!!!! Mack on Steroids!!!!
8:01 lol.
Bummer $875.00 with cotton/poly inside vs. wool...dam
Dude, what the hell do you do for a living to afford all this fuckin Filson?!
You keep using the word "downfall" when you mean "drawback."
Hope that didn't come off as too critical; was trying to be helpful. Love the channel, btw.
Not at all! I greatly appreciate the input and support! Thank you
You gotta be a drugdealer to afford all that stuff, but anyway- I really like your vids - thanks
Or just good with money
Now you can wear it and keep congratulation yourself on being able to afford one and looking like Elmer Fudd.
I applaud you on your ability to display your bitter jealousy so openly. Most men would be ashamed to show their bitterness in such a poorly veiled fashion, lol.
@@madgepins1967 Touché!
Nive coat but it looks ridiculous.
So this is really just a Filson Ad channel ?? Dude, be honest. Filson makes a good product but you can do just as good if not better for half the price or less. Apparently you have sold out, or believe the hype ? Either way - Poor.
Somebody has sand in their vagina
Were can you get the equivalent of the packer coat for half the price?
Hmm . . . that's funny. These grapes taste sour.
@@Taffy-ep9jk He won't answer because A.) The answer is "nowhere," and B.) he's just bitching about being poor, albeit in a dishonest and circumspect way
