Sounds fabulous! Wish I could persuade my husband to take a cruise but he gets motion sick so easily it would spoil the whole trip (seriously, it doesn’t take much!). How wonderful to see the wildlife and take in all that beautiful scenery - just magical. You’re so right, we tend to gravitate to some key pieces in our wardrobe that it’s a good idea to pack according to what we really wear. You looked great in your outfits!

I so envy you! An Alaskan cruise (inside passage, round trip) has been on my bucket list since I was 25, before I ever heard the term "bucket list". I’m now 82 and have trouble being on my feet much, which kind of rules out cruising for me now. Sigh….. It was a a terrific video, a good mix of narration, scenery and style. From NH,Patricia 👵🏻 🤗

We were on the same cruise! The weather was so warm, we heard the week prior was cold and rainy. It was my first cruise and I loved it. My friend wants us to go on a Caribbean cruise next. I live in Winnipeg and our summers are hot and humid, so I loved the fresh cool crisp air. You can't beat the west coast. The only hiccups we had was the taxi trying to to the drop off point was insane due to the volume of people on Canada day.😂 it was great to hear your experience.

Also, I have to tell you Cathy...I purchased the Spanx Air Essentials tapered pant!! These are the softest, most flattering pair of relaxed pants that I now own. Thank you for posted about them! When we moved to Alaska in January, we took the ferry up inside passage then across the gulf of Alaska. Cold and darkness for a week. Made it to Valdez between snow storms but made it to Anchorage. When we move south I plan on going to Haines and ferry down. So happy you had great weather.

Super interesting! I've always wondered about an Alaska cruise and really should go for it one day. Glad you liked Vancouver and I hear you about the suspension bridge! Locals skip the crowds and yahoos and go to the suspension bridge at Lynn Valley instead. It's free and only a fraction of the people.

    Great v-log!!!
I’m in Victoria (BC), and often the ships stop by b4 return docking in Seattle.
I have wanted to do this cruise for a few years. Not been on a huge ship (live aboard dive boats with -30 people), and I appreciate you noting the Alaska cruise option has a more casual vibe.
    I appreciated you packing notes.
Glad you got to see the orcas! Your pictures were great!!!
Boo to holiday migraines, Yay that you got to relax.
Fun seeing you at the suspension bridge X

Cathy, first time viewer here. I absolutely loved your video! I loved how you went through each day, what you wore, what you saw and how you felt. QUESTION In Ketchikan, did you buy the tickets for the guided walk at the pier or through the ship? We are going to Alaska next year (2025) in May on Coral Princess Cruise Tour. We will be 69 & 76 years old, so we aren’t looking for hours of hiking, but I think we can do a few hours.

Wonderful to see Cathy! I’m glad you had a great time. Cruising has changed a lot- George and I are very picky about which ships- some lines, some ships don’t prioritize the promenade deck walking circuit. That’s a must for us. We avoid the really big ships. Princess is going big with the Royal class and ditching the walk circuit on the covered promenade deck.
Good to know about that Tracy Arm tour/ I was thinking about doing that one in September when we go but that’s annoying.

    • @stylewithcathyover50

I'm picky as well, I love the promenade deck too! I don't like the huge boxy ships that hold thousands and thousands of people. There is a new ship coming out next year, I think it will carry around 8K people, not my idea of fun! Each to their own I guess. Thanks for watching my friend! 💖

Do you have a small camera that you recommend? I've seen you with one before. Thanks!

I just used my iPhone on this trip. I have a small Canon digital camera (Powershot Mark II) that I have used in the past. Here's the link: rstyle.me/+lOtIKp6YmHbFb-6UnvXpnA I've read that most people now use their phone camera, so camera's have jumped in price and they are making fewer.

A very helpful video! We are taking this cruise July 21-28, flying London to Vancouver (also live in Ontario). We too are carry-on only ppl so really appreciate your tips. Will check out your links - interested in the Talbot and Spanx leggings. Did you spend much time at the pool? Sorry to hear about the migraine. How much cash will we need? I’m assuming both Cdn and USD? So looking forward to it and good advice about putting the phone away and just taking it all in.

Hi Mary, I hope that you have a wonderful cruise, it's so relaxing! I didn't go to the pool once, just wasn't interested. I usually only take a few hundred dollars in cash, mainly for tipping, everything else is paid for on the ship or I use my credit card. Yes, you will use Canadian dollars in Vancouver and then US. The ship is cashless, everything is charged to your shipboard account and at the end goes on your credit card. Bon Voyage!!

They call it smart casual. We chose not to go, but people weren't overly dressed up like say on a Caribbean cruise.

I really enjoyed this video. I'm planning a cruise to Alaska in 2025 and I got lost in the rabbit hole of UA-camrs who want to give me ALL. THE. RULES. Some nice British man telling me how to embark (hello, could it be MORE complicated?), others who said I should "get to know" my cabin steward (why? will we meet later in life?) and women who bring more make-up and outfits than I own...
Thank you for keep it calm and simple and seemingly do-able. I am a 61 year-old jeans and sweatshirts kind of gal who lives in the PNW. I don't dress shabby, but I am so NOT fancy. Your wardrobe is more my style than any others I have seen. Comfort and versatility are the keys- right? I only have one question- on dress-up nights can I simply not eat in the fancy places? Like, could I wear my not fancy pants and get room service or something? I travel with carry-on only and I am not packing a dress to Alaska.
I also liked your shore excursions- they are now on my list of things to do.
Thanks again for a breath of fresh air!

Hi, yes you can eat anywhere you like. There is the buffet where you don't have to dress up and depending on the ship, there are many other options. You don't have to go to the "formal" dining room if you don't want to. There is always room service as well. I hope that you enjoy your cruise!

Have you had any issues with the spanx airessentials pant picking? Im considering buying the tapered pant during the black Friday sale.
    Are your pants holding up?

No issues at all. I don’t use fabric softener, wash them inside out and hang them to dry.
