Classic. Check out CCR's twelve minute long album version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". Meanwhile, on the authenticity front: "Green River is really about this place where I used to go as a kid on Putah Creek, near Winters, California. I went there with my family every year until I was ten. Lot of happy memories there. I learned how to swim there. There was a rope hanging from the tree. Certainly dragonflies, bullfrogs. There was a little cabin we would stay in owned by a descendant of Buffalo Bill Cody. That’s the reference in the song to Cody Jr. The actual specific reference, “Green River,” I got from a soda pop-syrup label. You used to be able to go into a soda fountain, and they had these bottles of flavored syrup. My flavor was called Green River. It was green, lime flavored, and they would empty some out over some ice and pour some of that soda water on it, and you had yourself a Green River." --John Fogerty, 1993
I liked your breakdown on CCR. Totally agree. Someone once told me I shouldn't listen to CCR because they weren't from the swamps. I told him to fuck off. Never lost sleep over it. CCR is awesome!
That band gave us unforgettable music and memories, and thank God they did. Music is a gift to all, no matter where the creators came from. People need to chill and quit putting people in constraining boxes.
CCR playin' that Swamp Music on Big Soul Bizmatik House Party Channel. Love it, Biz, and the killer commentary at the end. Thanks, for all the hard work and great music.
Oh well said! I don't care where they're from, just what they sound like. I was born in 1960 and grew up listening to and loving their music. CCR and Three Dog Night were my favorites out of all the great bands of the day. I'm not sure what you've played but my favs are Born on the Bayou, Long as I can see the light, Running through the jungle and Susie Q, which was my nickname lol. Thanks for the great music and reactions.
Saw these guys do this song in 1969 at the Denver Colosseum. One of my all time favorite concerts. I was 16 and just got my driver's license that same day.
CCR is a great band! We listen to them all the time because my husband has their greatest hits! Can't remember if you reacted to I Put A Spell On You or I Heard On The Grapevine. Covers but covers done extremely well! I Put A Spell On You by CCR is my husbands' favorite one even though he has the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. But we both really liked Angelina Jordan's version also.
Not only my fave CCR song, but one of my top 10 fave songs! dbl ♥ I suggest these CCR songs: I Heard It Thru The Grapevine, Midnite Special, Sweet Hitch Hiker & Long As I Can See The Light
Biz. When he sings about the rope on the tree he is talking about a rope to swing out over the river! We had one to swing out to the end & jump in from the swing ! When you write a song and sing it it’s your song that’s it ! It’s a free country supposedly you can write what you want when you want ! Anybody don’t like it don’t listen ! JMHO !
Yippee!! My favorite CCR song! I just love the beat! 🎵💃🎸 Have you done my other favorite one of theirs, "Down on the Corner"? If you haven't, I hope you do that one next! You don't have to be born in the swamp for a certain kind of music to touch your soul. If that's what makes you happy, then you have a connection to it, I think. I don't care where they were from, they kicked butt. I never heard a bad CCR song.
I personally think it would be hilarious and gratifying if you did check out literally every single CCR song. Laugh. That was a fun reaction man. This is a deep rabbit hole and they are so incredible.
Thanks for a really thoughtful analysis. I agree with you. CCR was a great band with an enjoyable, unique sound. Actually, this song is one of many favorites of mine.✌
That's a good one!! WELLLL...... ❤✌️ Btw, CCR were absolutely Not pretending!! You are spot on. They were really good at what they did. And they did it. Whom ever calls them pretenders should be as good.
Growing up i always thought they were from the south.... Then I learned that they're from northern California (where i was born and raised) and was shocked that i had "played"/grown up in the very areas they're singing about.
Everyone is so worried about what everyone else is doing. Can’t make music in this style or that style because someone else already did it. Can’t dress in a certain way or have a certain hairstyle or anything - you name it. Can’t say anything because it might offend someone. It’s getting old really quickly. You want to know what we used to say back in the day when much of this music was new? Live and let live. It’s that simple. Folks need to just chill out for a minute, take a deep breath and relax and remember whatever other people do is none of their effing business as long as they’re not hurting anyone. 😳
Your right it is entertainment and not everyone writes what they sing or have experienced what they are singing about oh it could be the case but maybe not at all! Actors actresses same thing!
People say "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery" I think its great John Fogerty enjoys making songs about the southern way of life. CCR was definitely a great rock band who's style was southern rock.I think you would like some of John Fogerty's solo stuff too! Old Man Down The Road is a good one!
"Rope and th' tree": tire-swing.. they'd string an old worn-out tire..rope-wise, to a high oak-tree limb or some-such.. (great time: you could swing your life-out on one of those..)
Right there with my favorites from them. I love the sentiment, plus the barefoot girls always intrigue me. I don't know where that video comes from but it's not bad. Also California has plenty of outback area too. This song is about a real place he remembers fondly from his youth.
First of all they were the only ones playing this music. They INVENTED this sound. Also they were not afraid to try ALL kinds of music.I was there saw them 5 times, lived their journey with them. John Fogerty IS an American treasure. Right there with Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles (imports), Neil Young (import), the Eagles, Paul Simon, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson. ALL of these artists possess a genius that was and still is envied by anyone with a soul. The delta blues and country blues meshed into the ground floor of rock and roll. Where the things get hung up is by trying SOOOO hard to affix a label (genre) to certain artists. Just enjoy! "If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad"
I don't think most people care about whether they were actually from the south, or consider music illegitimate if musicians didn't live the thing they're singing about. Some people just like to make that comment for CCR. The fact that Fogerty could use his imagination to create this Americana mythos for his songs is just another bit of evidence for his genius. More CCR, absolutely. Check out "Gloomy" and "Walk on the Water" for a different sound from them, but very cool. Or "Penthouse Pauper" for some badass blues.
You can play all the CCR you want. It ain't gonna hurt my feelings none. They are one of the best that's ever been. They have a ton of hits. You should try a deep cut. Graveyard Train is a good one. It's on the Bayou Country album. Classic album from start to finish.
Just a couple more days to Halloween and CCR's often overlooked track "Graveyard Train" would be a perfect one to review. It features killer harmonica and beat as well as a story of a train and a Greyhound Bus that collided one night on one of those unguarded back country RR Xings. They wont disappoint.
I agree that while there are a couple CCR songs that I like even more, this is still a great song. I also agree that it doesn't matter where they were from. If an artist can make great music, that's all that matters; the music doesn't have to match their real life situation. I recommend their version of the Motown classic "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" for your next CCR song. There's an abridged version, but I recommend the long version from their Cosmos Factory album.
"Wondering if my Rope still hanging from the tree" can easily be misconstrued. Rope for swinging and jumping into the river. Not, well, ya know, THAT type of rope and tree.
I feel the same way about CCR. The fact that they broke up after such a short time for seemingly ridiculous reasons (egos and infighting)! Looking selfishly at it I feel we were all deprived of potentially great music! John did go on to do some good stuff but, like you said, CCR had the recipe for hits. Great reaction 🌺✌️
CCR was the no 1 band in 1970 after the Beatles disbanded. In 1969 they have been the first band that outsold the Beatles in the USA. So the answer, YES
CCR's history is sad. As far as I can remember, it went something like this. Fogerty made a terrible deal with Saul Zaentz. 200 songs for a pittance. Fogerty's battle with Zaentz ended the band. Fogerty was banging out short hits to get out from under that deal, but the band members, including his brother, ended up selling out to Saul Zaentz. John felt betrayed, and he and Tom never patched things up between them. Fogerty grew up in California, so his singing accent is a put on. It's fake, but it works. He became fascinated with all the different music sounds coming out of Louisiana, and melded it into his own sound. Too bad they didn't stay together. It took John 9 years to break free of Saul Zaentz, and he re-emerged to pen the classic 'Centerfield', which quickly became an anthem for many MLB teams.
Pretty sure John is a musical genius. Don't care where they come from they capture Louisiana perfectly, for me anyway. Can't think of any of CCR songs I don't like. Bad Moon Rising was the first single I bought as a youngin.
WTH, every artist is influenced by someone else, Led Zeppelin redid old blues songs,so did many other, Black Betty....... Real Cajun doesn't sound like CCR,or anyone, well maybe my grandfather sounds Cajun, you can't even understand what a Cajun person is saying, plus their French
You can't go wrong with CCR, their catalogue of songs is virtually endless
Classic. Check out CCR's twelve minute long album version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". Meanwhile, on the authenticity front: "Green River is really about this place where I used to go as a kid on Putah Creek, near Winters, California. I watch a rockhounding UA-camr that hunts Putah, and he mentioned that. Thanks for saving me all of that typing!
No problem.
John Fogerty is legendary.
I liked your breakdown on CCR. Totally agree. Someone once told me I shouldn't listen to CCR because they weren't from the swamps. I told him to fuck off. Never lost sleep over it. CCR is awesome!
Their 11 minute cover of "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" is an amazing jam. Well worth listening to.
Actually this song Green River is about a river in California that John Fogerty visited often as a kid
That band gave us unforgettable music and memories, and thank God they did. Music is a gift to all, no matter where the creators came from. People need to chill and quit putting people in constraining boxes.
Such a sick tune.. killer lyrics 💪🏻🇺🇸🎸
Awesome CCR song! You keep playing them and you gonna have lots of folks watching. These guys were as good as it got at that time.
Green river is Putah creek running out of lake Berryessa in central California coast range. Fogerty used to go there when he was a kid.
My favorite CCR song! Never get tired of it!
"As long as I can see the light". John plays a mean sax a must listen.
This was the tune that introduced me to CCR. My favorite I think of theirs.
There isn't a bad CCR song, period! Love your reactions❤ much love and peace to you n your family.
CCR playin' that Swamp Music on Big Soul Bizmatik House Party Channel. Love it, Biz, and the killer commentary at the end. Thanks,
for all the hard work and great music.

Sweet Hitchhiker is a hidden gem in their catalogue.
Good choice, might be my favorite from them. This or I heard it Through the Grapevine.
I am 64 years old and still listen to them love love them❤
Want something a bit dufferent from CCR? Try Ramble Tamble next. Swamp fades into psychedelic CCR. This is probably the only time they do this.
Saw these guys do this song in 1969 at the Denver Colosseum. One of my all time favorite concerts. I was 16 and just got my driver's license that same day.
I'm still leaning towards "Long as I can see the light as my fav CCR song. Your reaction a ways back was great too!
Fantastic pull BizMan!!!!! As always you have great taste in music!!!! Says Austin Tx!!!!! Keep it coming!!!! 😎🍸
Biz. When he sings about the rope on the tree he is talking about a rope to swing out over the river! We had one to swing out to the end & jump in from the swing ! One of my top favs of theirs❤😂. Been on a boat on the Green River in Kentucky😂😂❤❤
Yippee!! My favorite CCR song! I just love the beat! 🎵💃🎸 Have you done my other favorite one of theirs, "Down on the Corner"? If you haven't, I hope you do that one next! No misses
You will enjoy CCR’s cover of Heard it thru the Grapevine long version!! It’s a real gem!!!
Ramble Tamble next, please!!
It never bothered me, or my friends and we were here. They came out with great music, and we loved them for it. Enjoy
Fogerty just writes from the heart. He's a great musician and artist. His music has stuck around for years on its own merits. There's no gimmick.
I personally think it would be hilarious and gratifying if you did check out literally every single CCR song. Laugh. That was a fun reaction man. This is a deep rabbit hole and they are so incredible.
this one is my favortie CCR . captures their vibe the best
Thanks for a really thoughtful analysis. I agree with you. CCR was a great band with an enjoyable, unique sound. Actually, this song is one of many favorites of mine.✌
I saw CCR many times. They were always great.
Cant go wrong with CCR! LOVE THEM!❤
"Someday Never Comes" by CCR is my personal favorite. ❤ luv ya Biz!
Three others; Commotion, Walkin' On The Water, and. Cross Tie Walker.
That's a good one!! WELLLL...... ❤✌️
Btw, CCR were absolutely Not pretending!! You are spot on.
They were really good at what they did. And they did it. Whom ever calls them pretenders should be as good.
🎸💯 More CCR is always a great idea‼🔥
I love ALL of their stuff‼Just do it‼Thanks for choices BizMatik‼☮ ❤ 🎶
Legendary timess band❤
Growing up i always thought they were from the south.... Then I learned that they're from northern California (where i was born and raised) and was shocked that i had "played"/grown up in the very areas they're singing about.
I dig this song just fine..wellllll!!!!!!!
Good one!
good song and great band of blues rock and folk 👍👍
I love their cover of the old time song Cotton Fields.

I don't have to be from the caribbean to love steal drums, or from New Orleans to enjoy some jazz. Good commentary.
Your right it is entertainment and not everyone writes what they sing or have experienced what they are singing about oh it could be the case but maybe not at all! Actors actresses same thing!
I do not care that CCR came from California. They unequivocally SOLD the swamp vibe throughout their entire catalog. And I love it!🖖🏼
Get to Ramble Tamble...😎
Great reaction Biz as always ! ❤️
❤

Please react to SWEET HITCH HIKER and UP AROUND THE BEND by CCR ! two of my favorite songs !!!
The rope in the tree gave me pause too, but I think it was a swimming hole rope. CCR seems positive.
I agree that while there are a couple CCR songs that I like even more, this is still a great song. I also agree that it doesn't matter where they were from. "Wondering if my Rope still hanging from the tree" can easily be misconstrued. Rope for swinging and jumping into the river. Not, well, ya know, THAT type of rope and tree.
I live less than 1/2 mile from Green River in Kentucky. I have really skipped a flat rock across Green River.
The greatest problem was CCR's record-company Fantasy. Read the story on Wikipedia about Vince Guaraldi (a jazz musician) and you will understand.
CCR...."Tombstone Shadow"
Tons of Classics
Al done in about 5 years before they split
Can't Love it more
Entertainment yeah thats what it is 4:53
Add me to the "Ramble Tamble" next list.
Serious question: From back in the day, was CCR the American Fab Four? Or was it the Doors?
CCR was the no 1 band in 1970 after the Beatles disbanded. In 1969 they have been the first band that outsold the Beatles in the USA. So the answer, YES
The people that criticize CCR don't have to listen. Nuff Said.
CCR's history is sad. As far as I can remember, it went something like this. Fogerty made a terrible deal with Saul Zaentz. 200 songs for a pittance. Fogerty's battle with Zaentz ended the band. If you haven't heard It Came From The Sky by CCR then give it a listen.
I ❤you
This song with the pan pan girls dancing.
HOUND DOG CHASING A HOODOO!!!!!!
I saw Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny do this live
Springsteen is a big fan off CCR
@@love-vy1ry it was cool as hell, Bruce showed up to the Southside show at the Stone Pony for the encore
you feel like you're there. That's it.
The rope was a tree swing lol
Pretty sure John is a musical genius. Don't care where they come from they capture Louisiana perfectly, for me anyway. Can't think of any of CCR songs I don't like. Bad Moon Rising was the first single I bought as a youngin.
It's a river in California.
LISTEN UP PLAYERS,, Johnnie's got some schoolin' for ya,, Johnnie Taylor "Who's Making Love"
I don't think there is such a thing as a bad CCR song.
Music for those cross country cat rides
Swamp 😂
Plus it's easy to see he was influenced by soul music
WTH, every artist is influenced by someone else, Led Zeppelin redid old blues songs,so did many other, Black Betty....... Real Cajun doesn't sound like CCR,or anyone, well maybe my grandfather sounds Cajun, you can't even understand what a Cajun person is saying, plus their French
