I used to work for an old boy by the name of Ed Beem. He owned Beem Equipment in Hornick, Iowa. He was the guy that invented the pivot plates to adapt the 1070 & 1370 Case as well as many others. I built a ton of those pivot plates and front ends to adapt the 10 & 20 series john Deeres for loader use. He made a yearly trip to Canada to deliver these plates and buy alot of front ends from those salvage yards up there. Its cool to see that set up! I loved the look of the 4640 front end on the 4020.

I can see Nick that by the time Mia hits first grade, you will have her well trained to demonstrate a DIY split of a 5020 to swap out a pilot or a throw away bearing when asked about what she did during the winter. Good thing Amanda is able to come round often, to handle some of those fine assembly details. But do you have some of that fancy paint you use sometimes to do a touch up on her fingernails? Maybe something along the lines of the JD Yellow for rims? Gotta be good looking when out tending the cows and calves you know... -Bob...

Idea, since you are that deep into getting that pump out, I would advise replacing every O ring in that pump. There is probably plenty enough hour's on the tractor.

Every 4020 I've seen that had a loader has a banged up nose and hood. Was at a farm sale that had an early 4020 with beefy front axle. Now I know why they done did that. Sold for $9000.AL B.

I'm sure the quad ring for the pump shaft is shot so you got way to much oil going out the plastic bleed off line the new seal might work for awhile but you should have put a whole seal kit and most likely a shaft in the pump.

Is that seal in backwards im into my 4020 pump right now and the orange part was facing the pump and the metal side was against the snap ring. I have my pump tore right down needs bearings and needle bearings and the shaft seal wore grooves on shaft and needle bearings are also chewing up the shaft. Well i guess its cheaper to replace the shaft $270.00 and bearings and thrust washers since all the plungers look good compared to a new pump. it did work fine it was just leaking from o ring on pressure line fitting and shaft seal but after seeing the damage no idea what the bearings are worth yet but at least i priced out the shaft when i got the seal kit. If the outer seal leaking good chance inner seal leaking like mine grooves wore in shaft there too. There's lots of debris in the pump so probably a good thing getting into it get it flushed out i already flushed the diff trans steering valve steering motor this was the last part that needed flushed and maybe i might get this thing back together its only been in the corner of my shop for 2 years now lol🙈🙉🙊🥺

The original axles would break the spindles, knees and center castings when doing heavy loader work. They did make a heavier front axle but there are few used ones around. Plus they cost an arm/leg while not being that much stronger. So there are several companies that make adaptor plates to mount stronger axles under the JD 4020. The Case axle is strong and much cheaper than any of the JD axles. I have adaptor on my 1969 JD 4020, that puts a JD 4430 axle under the same way. The adaptor plate is $900 and a good used JD 4430 front axle runs around $2000. The kits using the case axles are about $1000 cheaper.
