My husband introduced me to this song not long after we met in December of 2010. He would regularly play it to me, telling me he was the luckiest. We were married on 31.3.18, this was our first dance wedding song. Sadly he gained his angel wings aged just 55 on 9.2.22 and I've been drawn to listen to this tonight, and many other versions of it. I truly was the luckiest to be his wife and to call him my soulmate and partner. Love you and miss CJP!
I'm sorry for your loss. In a similar circumstance, last year (3/18/2023) This song was on our wedding playlist. After almost 36 years together, I finally married my best friend. It was the happiest day of our lives, with all of our guests being restricted to our extended families. I was the luckiest. Six weeks later, my beloved didn't wake up, having suffered a fatal cardiac event in his sleep. I will always do my best to remind myself that I am the luckiest.
I sang this a cappella to my wife on our wedding day, and again ten years later on my 50th birthday. Can’t ever make it through without cracking a little.
I know this song is meant for couples, but I have dedicated it to my beautiful son who is 6 months old. We found out he would have Down syndrome at 12 weeks gestation, and then we were scared. Now we consider ourselves #TheLuckiest He is so wonderful
I did a baby video for my 1st daughter's bday. Pictures from when I found out I'm pregnant until she turned 1.That was 15 years ago.I always cry on that song and my daughter too because represents our love for one another. This could totally be your baby's song.Enjoy your motherhood I'm sure he's precious.

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. No matter how many times I listen to it I cry, always reminded of all the love in my life. Gratitude for this song expanding and healing my heart and for showing us this beauty Ben Folds ❤️
This song has been a part of my life for almost 20 years. My father died when I was only 11, it was devastating. Something about this song struck a chord in my grieving childs heart. I've listened to it many times with tears on my cheeks. As I grow older it takes on different meanings. Meeting my wife, having children, and finally this past week my grandfather passed away in his 90's. I came back to listen again and let the clean emotion wash my tears away. Thank you Mr. Folds.
This comment got me to cry. I'm so glad you came to appreciate the song more than one way. I just learned about this song and well it's too good that I'm almost upset I didn't hear this before. Thank you for sharing your experience with us :)
I lost my father when I was 16. I feel the same way. Maybe it's the kind of broken and wonderfully ridiculous way this song approaches love and mortality; it just speaks to us.
I think the same, this comment got me cry, but the life goes on bro. Sure you have a great family, still listening this kind of music, its great. Blessings

"Where was I the day before I saw your lovely face?" Yeah, man, that's getting right to the heart of things. You think you have a world and things exist, and then you meet "that someone," and everything before that moment is a blur. Beautiful song.
In 2003 I left the girl I loved to live abroad for two years. I would sometimes sing this song to myself during that time. She waited for me, and we'll celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary this summer. I am, I am, I am the luckiest.
My girlfriend played this song for me deep in the throws of falling in love with each other. She played it in my truck on our way to a dinner date at a restaurant we would later get married at. Good memory.
I was always told that my Dad sung this song to my Mom on their wedding day. I listen to it almost everyday and fall in love more everytime. I plan to learn this song on the piano and play/sing it at my wedding in the future.
I’m a junior and the seniors last day was today, I’m in chorale at my school and my choir teacher sang this song for them.. very emotional I love my seniors and I’m very grateful I got to experience high school with them ❤️❤️
I have never been able to listen to this song without crying. Not once. From the first time I heard it over 20 years ago, and now, it will always make me cry. And it makes me cry because I am fortunate enough to have people in my life that this song reminds me of. So I, too, am The Luckiest.
Ben, the end of this month will mark my 14th wedding anniversary. Every time I hear this song it makes me cry. It explains how much I truly love and adore my wife. Thank you for always bringing beautiful tears to my eyes.

So heartwarming song....brought me to tears....this song encompasses all the love we have found no matter what form and type in this world....the simplicity of the lyrics combined with the melody that hits you to the core....this is beyond beautiful!
One of the most beautifully written songs I’ve ever heard about love. Thank you, Ben! 💕🎶 The first time I heard this was two years ago when Alan Cumming and Ari Shapiro amazingly covered it in their “Och and Oy” tour. One can find it on UA-cam! 💕🎶💕🎶
I saw him do this at the Palace Theatre in Louisville, KY with the Louisville Orchestra years ago. I paid $75 but I'd gladly put down a house payment for another ticket.
My son and his wife are celebrating their 10th anniversary tomorrow. This was their song. A family member sang it while the danced. I cried. My husband cried. It was so profound, and so beautiful. Thank you, Ben!
Today is my 21st anniversary with my wife. My 1st without her, as she passed away shortly after our 20th anniversary last year of brain cancer. This was our wedding song. And it encompasses everything that she was to me. If only i could have just stayed a couple of days and passed away…but life doesn’t always work like that. I love you, baby. Can’t wait to see you again one day…
I do not know what happened this very moment that I got awashed with gratefulness for my current partner. I never experienced this kind of love from my past relationships. She has been the most amazing supporter of all sorts, especially during (most) times that I lose confidence in myself. This song came to me as I kept muttering “I’m so lucky. I’m so lucky.” So I sent her the lyrics and this video because I have no words of my own that would encapsulate how lucky and grateful I am that she’s by my side. Thank you, Ben Folds, for finding the words and melody for me.

And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know
That I am

I am
The luckiest
I love you more than I have ever found a way to say to you

And one day passed away in his sleep

That I know
That I am
