- What is it really like to quit London and move to a secular Muslim city?
Five years of living here, I have seen a lot of changes.

That one day comes never . That is how we all think: "one day" I will do this/that
My dream is to live in a place where I can hear azan 5x a day. Great info sister. May Allah bless you.
OMG exactly my view. 54 years in Australia and I'm dying to hear the Azan non-stop.
Living under a Muslim ruler is great, too
Yes yes yes. And perform most of my prayers in a mosque ❤. That's what I love about Turkey
@@aasiyapowell875 You nailed it - 100% - and not having to repeatedly as is this halal and is that halal. Oh people living in Turkey are sooooooo lucky. I live in Sydney.
@@valduramma1781 OMG it is the only thing I envy about men - OMG what a feeling to be able to do that and the blessings and Hassanatus are beyond count. Plus not to worry about terrorism in a mosque when backs are turned, like happens in Australia.
Assalamualikum, thank you for saying all of this. I am in Canada and British raised, since I became a Muslim nine years ago I have considered living in a Muslim country and Turkey has captivated me. I will watch more of your videos to get a better feel of things. I appreciate you sister. May Allah bless you and protect you. Ameen.
MAASAA ALLAH,KIZIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
_"since I became a Muslim nine years ago I have considered living in a Muslim country "_ - You could try Indonesia. Largest muslim majority country by population. They're far away from conflict zones, generally neutral with no political ties to any international security alliance (meaning it won't get dragged into any dumbass wars like many countries here in the west who are allied to the US or NATO), relatively stable society both socially and politically, and a G20 nation with a good prospect for growth in the future. Assuming the current newly elected President doesn't screw it up. People there also tend to have a positive view of westerners who turn to Islam and are very welcoming. You won't have any problems finding a community.

@@ibrahim-jj2wu Why, you hate and despise Indonesia? You wanna live in US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia?
I went to Türkiye this year & after being in the west for quite a while hearing the Adhan during fajr in Istanbul was just beautiful. I met some Syrians there & they were extremely kind, May Allah make it easy for them
Turkiye, Syria, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Bangladesh, Mali, Gambia, Morocco are all Muslim Brothers.
There is a reason 40,000 Turks risked their lives to escape and get asylum in Europe in 2023. Don't be fooled by videos. Turkey is still intolerant Fa$cist state with no room for women or minorities
did more research and "Last year, more than 100,000 Turkish citizens applied for asylum in EU countries - an 82% increase from the previous year. They are now the third largest nationality seeking protection in the EU after Syrians and Afghans" Explain that please!!!!! If you dont believe just use Google

Dear sister, Allah is the best friend all the time. Allah never leaves you alone as long as you remember Surah Al Zariyat vs 56
Pressure turns coal into diamond.
If you cover your face does that make you better human ? What is wrong with your face that if a man see and get sin to look at . Is this duty that God gives to human's woman from? I clearly understand that naked woman is not good and covering a normal garment is respectful for a woman but to cover your face can not be included this and this is too radical and illogical. According to you, does The God wants woman hiding in the garment and being taken from the society , I am muslim and I do not think God wants this. This is illogical and exremist approach and I do not want to see my wife to escape from the society with covering his face under thick garment .

I lived in Istanbul for 30 years. Istanbul is a fantastic dream city. But also quite a challenging city, especially for low income and insecure job holders. For travellers it must rank on top of the list to visit. Welcome and enjoy sister..
It’s a very challenging City even for westerners. I’ve been to Istanbul over 10 times and my last trip put me off. There’s no customer service anywhere, everything takes too long and the locals are indifferent beyond comprehension. Many Things cost the same as London minus the London service. It’s a beautiful City though, not sure about the people though.
Alhamdulillah. You found peace in the Islamic country. Most importantly peace in yourself.
Islamic country?
Unfortunately, secularism was dictated in Turkiye, but it is taking firm steps towards becoming an Islamic country again.
It' s not a islamic country. It's a very secular country.
@@mrvozz Correct having a muslim population in the country does not necessarily make it an islamic country. Anyways there are muslims here. In my neighborhood nearly half of the people are Ahli Salah and prays their daily prayers. (Ikametus salah)
@@Amfpasha Don't fool yourself, no matter what schools they study in, atheism has started to spread among the new generation. No matter how hard you try, Turkey will not accept the Wahhabi faith and will remain secular.
Lovely video. As a 64 y/o Brit, I have travelled to many countries and lived abroad for 28 years. Visited Turkey first in 1996. This year twice, renting a scooter from Antalya and travelling through this beautiful country. Have made many friends and will visit Istanbul next month. All the people I met left a deep and positive impression on me, so much so that I am now to start reading the Qur'an from M.A.S. Abdel Haleem. I am sure I will have questions and my Turkish friends will guide me further. Thank you for your video's, so insightful for myself and I am sure for many others.
Brother, to read quran, first, you should answer 1 question, why children go to schooll to listen math teachers, why they dont read theirself? Whom you trust, ask him, whats quran in reality, first u need mentality to look it
@@OzkanArslannLet him read it as he likes brother. He will certainly ask questions from knowledgeable people. Allah guides such people.

Abdul Haleem's translation is a good one. Since you are British, I highly recommend you get in touch with Cambridge Muslim College and Abdal Hakim Murad (Tim Winters). He is a revert, 64 yrs old. He is arguably the leading Islamic scholar in the Western hemisphere. You will find many of his lectures on UA-cam.
May God Almighty help you and guide you in your journey.
Thanks for this, blessings from Glasgow ❤❤❤
Thank you for your words of wisdom!
I reverted to Islam after living in Morocco for three months.
Peace be upon you, sister!

Congrats - Allah bless you forevermore.
Assalamu aleykum, I am converted Muslima from Latvia. I love Turkiye too, I visit Istanbul 3-4 times a year. I love this city so much, miss it. From time to time I think about moving there, but I agree: if you are not married a Turkish citizen, it could be complicated. And after all I lobe my country too. It would be wonderful to make my visits to Turkiye more meaningful, away from touristic pathways, studying our deen, meeting locals and expats!.. Perhaps there are some opportunities for that, aren't they? I would be happy to spend a month or two in the good environment, together with other women from the Western countries. May Allah SWT shows us the way
I like your video Lauren. Hope you well and happy living in Turkey.
Went for umrah & found Turkish pilgrims are the most gentle in demeanor & kindest towards children ❤ When it's crowded during tawaf I'll look for a turkish-speaking entourage to embed my kids into 😅
Mashallah what a content
I had moved to Istanbul in my thoughts by time this video could finish

I am also from the UK living in Türkiye. I feel the same way about Istanbul. It's such a unique country like no other.
Sister Lauren. We visit Turkeye on a regular basis from UK. In fact we just got back last night from there and was in Konya for the Shub e Arus. We also visit Mahmud Aziz Hudai RA sometimes in Uskudar and have stayed near there a few times. I met you in London once when you visited South Woodford masjid a few years ago. Not sure if you remember me. But it would be lovely to meet you upon our next visit. We travel solo. That’s me and my husband and hire a car while we are there. It’s always jam packed as we visit so many Sahaba ekram and Awliya. But if Allah wills we can meet in sha Allah. Even for a coffee ❤

Great collection of images and advice and personal observations, Lauren. Alhamdulilah, you and so many others are at the forefront of helping us navigate through these turbulent times, from drawing attention to the genocide and for the positive outlook of moving to Muslim-friendly cities. Enjoy Istanbul!
I am Indonesian and I think Türkiye and Malaysia are two Muslim-majority countries that are good to live in.
My thoughts as well. The bikinis in Turkey are a turn-off though.
Turkey is not good nowadays, prices are higher with %60 inflation rate and unemployment rate higher , all cities overcrowded

Masha Allah. Thank you for expressing beautifully what İstanbul is. I went to İstanbul mid 2020, and all my criteria boxes are checked for where I want to live. From religious to history, modernity and diversity, and the people. I also felt home and considered İstanbul home. Then, I brought my family and we are living here since then, though I travel a lot because of my work. May Allah give us hidaya wherever we are.

I am a swiss woman. Convert to Islam 2 years ago. The longer I live, the more I feel that I am Swiss, but not like others. I don't think there are many Muslims with Swiss passports. I'm not doing well here. When I look at the legislation from January 1st, my heart hurts because burka and face covering are punishable by a fine. I don't wear a hijab myself. But I pray and read the Koran every day. I miss the spirituality here in Switzerland. But I have non-Muslim children and one of them is only 4 years old. I'm now thinking about moving away with her. The other children are already grown up and independent. First we will travel to Turkey and other countries. My heart is not here in Switzerland. It is already somewhere else🫶Thank you for this Video wonderful sister💐
All the best
Absolutely can understand you not feeling at home in your native Switzerland (ironical isn't it that men can tell women what to wear punishable with a fine - wow). I would suggest try Malaysia, Turkiye or why not come to Sydney to visit and live in one of the Muslim suburbs to try it out - those suburbs like Lakemba, Belmore, Bankstown etc are close to the central business district and are vibrant places plus have the best of Islam. You will safe there as well and there re lots of female Aussie reverts living there as well.
I am not married, I am over thirty years old, my only thought right now is to save more money, move to Turkey and live the rest of my life there.😢

Selamün aleyküm sister. Really glad to have you in İstanbul. We moved 1.5 years ago from Germany to Üsküdar. Economics aside, the Bosphorus is the most beautiful place on this planet. İf İ can be of any help in any matter, please let me know. Wish you a great stay here
One comment regarding the fisk market area in Üsküdar. The central parts of Üsküdar (especially the area which is flat and at Sea level) are not solid against Earthquake risk. I advise very much to stay in a location outside of Üsküdar center. Easy rule of thumb is: If a place is on a hill and not at Sea level, then is it is mostly solid rock beneath and much safer in case of an earthquake. At least, the building should be max 20 years old, since older buildings were not built for earthquake resistance
Very good video , thanks !
I've been living in Antalya for 4 years now alhamdulilla there is need for effort here on the Muslims and that's our family's intention and we are seeing change alhamdulilla. I am from UK too there is a sense of peace I feel here away from the hustle and bustle

Awesome choice of country of residence!❤️🤲🏻🌹
Istanbul is my favorite place in the world, been only twice but am planning to head back after the holidays and hopefully 🤞 stay for a while❤
Thank you for this video about Turkiye. I love this country for the rich Ottoman history and how Constantinople became Istanbul. The Bosphorus sea on both sides of two different continents line with countless laidback coffee outlets is awesome. The locals appear sulk by default but are helpful and friendly. Like China, it appears the people are proud and keep the country clean. Love the ancient ruins and Islamic history with unique Turkish mosque. Sufi Rumi, Konya of the dervish swirl...wow.
Stay immensely blessed; soul and body together, equating with and enjoying the environment one lives in; Masha'Allah you glow like a light. I've made a couple of MoUs with universities in Turkey; lovely counterparts. I spent 10 years in the US and the UK during my studies, but felt like a fish out of water; the Imperial College London photographer once told me, "you speak good English, but you don't think in English!". This has been my dilemma throughout. I always counsel my faculty and students to stand on their feet and hold their head high up in the air, like proud citizens; if your pride (not arrogance) is gone, half the battle is won by the adversary; I think the Turkish people have this quality.
Asalaamu Alaykum

I first came across you when I was 15 or 16 years old, through a newspaper clipping: "Tony Blair's sister-in-law has converted to Islam." I closely followed your journey with the hijab through news reports about your support for Palestine. With every piece of news I came across, my admiration for you grew. There has always been a distance between us, but now, for some reason, I feel as though there’s a chance we might meet one day. You are a journalist, and I work in television-who knows 😊 I’m so glad you’re in this city with us.❤

Greeting from indonesia sister
You have more than 200 hundred millions brothers and sisters in our country🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I traveled through Turkey for a month during the last elections and took part in an Erdogan rally showing my 3 finger salute while dancing with the crowd and took part in the AK PARTi victory celebrations in the square in Bursa my favorite city in Turkey. The bulk of my stay was in Istanbul in two spells. Firstly at the beginning of my travels where I stayed in Yedikule for a week and 10 days in Balat at the end as there was so much to see and do while also being mesmerized by the Bosphorus. It is also a place where you can make your Salaah on time and in congregation even as a traveler because there are so many mosques. But most fascinating for me just like you say is that you feel that you are walking in a film set and part of history which is around every corner and yet connected to 21st century comfort and modernity. One of my highlights was stumbling across by chance seeing the almost 2000 year old Column of Constantine which I did not even know of before.
May Allah bless and protect You Sister 🤲🤲🤲☝️
Istanbul for me is a country within a country. It's a fascinating city and there is a lot to see. I find the people quite nice, very helpful and they mind their own business, not bothering anyone. Sadly enough, the inflation factor got in the way and boosted the prices to an unbelievable level. Everything got a lot more expensive than a few years ago and this had somehow pushed people away from Turkiye.
I love Istanbul, it's really a dream city.
Jazakamullah khair sister Lauren for this video. It was very helpful❤. May Allah swt accept it. I love Turkiye and especially Istanbul❤

Assalamalaikum, I am a born Muslim, born and raised in Europe. I go to turkey every year or so to visit some family there. I recently went to turkey again and heard the adhan there 5 times a day for the first time *as far as I can remember. But for me, due to my health, it’s unfortunately not an ideal place to reside in. Fortunately, I can practice my religion well in my country here.
