Thank you so much for this it was perfect and very easy to follow. I easily got it to work on Steam, but I found the game I tried, some controls worked but moving didn't. I guess this might be because it is an older game.
I was wondering if you could make a seperate video for controller mapping for minecraft with a ps4/ps5 controller please? I'm not great with technology so I don't know what to do.
I might have to do that at some point. I’m unfortunately on a little bit of hiatus at the moment due to some personal matters, but MC and Roblox are the 2 I get the most requests about
It’s been a while since I’ve used the app. They should be built into the app. Think it’s somewhere in the menubar. Some of my older controller videos I think will have that in there. Sorry I haven’t given you much info. The app is pretty much dead at this point and I stopped using it
My Macbook Pro 15" 2017 connected with PS5 DualSense, but haptic/vibration feature does not work, other buttons working fine. Does it required any driver? I connect via Bluetooth. Thanks
Hey Narun. Unfortunately it’s kind of a mixed bag compared to using it on the PS5. Some games and systems use it but others don’t. I’d say more often then not you’re not going to have it
When I connect my ps5 controller with bluetooth, it seems to work in the sense that when I press the ps-button, I can control apps in launchpad, but my joystick mapper, won't detect any actions on my controller. Have you encountered this problem and do you have any clue to why this is the case and how to fix it?
I have a wire controller and I tried using it for the resident evil biohazad game but it doesn't seem to work. It works for steam but not any other games just only seems to work for steam. even tried PUBG through this website that doesn't work either. do I need a wireless controller for it to work for other games?
Oh that makes sense then. Apple only officially supports the first party controller from Sony, Nintendo, and Xbox. Third party ones? Even those blessed by the console makers, aren’t guaranteed to work. Steam is a lot more flexible, which is why you don’t have that problem in Steam but you do for games outside of that like the Mac App Store or direct download
@@EasyOSX That's pretty annoying to get this problem, with such a beautiful controller unfortunately. If someday you try BallisticNG, leave a comment here :)
I think I did for a previous video on the PS4, but that said since Joystick Mapper is abandoneare I haven’t used it for gaming in a long time. Have you checked out the Controllable Mod for Minecraft?
I'm having trouble with the scroll wheel bindings for minecraft it works and then it stops and when I enter and exit the menu it works again, I'm on ps5, any fixes. And can you share your controls for minecraft on joystick mapper
When you say the scroll wheel bindings, I presume you mean for getting through the hotbar in Minecraft? I'll have to get you the bindings later as I'm away from my Mac for a few days.
Planning to buy Ps5 controller for my 14 inch macbook pro for gaming. Is the controller support different for different platforms? Like if i bought shadow of the tomb raider from mac app store instead of steam will the controllers work? I know the app store tomb raider game doesnt have controller support tag. But still i thought i would give it a try. Wats your opinion on this?
Hey Zwa! There shouldn't be any difference as far as Steam vs. the Mac App Store goes. In almost every case if one storefront says it has controller support for an OS, then it has it for other storefronts. Usually anyway. Looking into it further, the developer's site says both revisions of the official PS4 controller are supported, so I don't think you'll have an issue. I'll link down to the support article that lists the full compatible controller list and a note about potential issues with the v2 PS4 controller. Hope these help! i connected it with bluetooth, but the touchpad wont work, and the noise and microhpone dont play sound, is this bc it is on mac, or did i do smth wrong
Is this an official Sony PS4 controller or 3rd party one? Also what version of Mac OS are you running? I will say for my part I had mixed results with the touchpad.
@breadstickys Ok. I’d update to 14.5 to be safe, but my guess is it’s “working properly” so long as you can play games. Touchpad has always been wonky, and I’ve never had the mic/speaker options on mine. Might just be the games I play. Other thing would be to connect it up to a PS5 and check for a firmware update on the controller
With Steam's big UI overhaul this included the preferences. Fortunately it got a little easier. Open Preferences then click on "Controller" in the left sidebar that appears. Then click "Enable Steam Input for Playstation controllers" and that should work for the PS5 controller
It depends. If you’re getting games from the Mac App Store that have native controller support, then you’re out of luck. If you get your games from Steam, then you’re probably fine. Outside of those stores, you may need to either look at that game’s patch notes or use a tool like Joystick Mapper.
Hey Zepher. Yeah the Xbox One controller has full native support starting in Mac OS 11, "Big Sur" and later. So the buttons you use to sync (assuming you use BT instead of a wired connection) will be different, but otherwise will work.
Ok, first thing I’d do is update to the latest update, 12.3.1, if you’re running Big Sur. This update specifically included some fixes for BT game controllers. If you’ve already done that, or aren’t able to run Big Sur, try using a USB cable and tell me if that works
What game are you trying to play, and is it a Steam, Mac App Store, or game that needs a controller mapping app? Also what version of Mac OS are you running?
Admittedly it's been a while since I've used the app since it's been inactive for such a long time. If they don't pop up automatically I think they can be accessed from the menubar. Again, I forget which option shows it though.
Hey Ivan. Are these games in Steam, from the App Store, or from something else? And if it's outside of the App Store or Steam, are you using JoyStick Mapper?
Thank you so much! This is the best video covering this! :D
Keep up the great work bro!

Thank you so much for this it was perfect and very easy to follow. I easily got it to work on Steam, but I found the game I tried, some controls worked but moving didn't. I guess this might be because it is an older game.
Glad it helped! Typically on the game's store page in Steam it will show whether it has no gamepad, partial gamepad, or full gamepad support.

How do you find the presets on joystick mapper or do you have to make them yourself

Can you Show all you Settings From Joystick Mapper to Minecraft? I am Not so good with the buttons on the Mac
For a particular game or in general?
For minecraft
Do you have the rumble in steam games? (like BallisticNG - the best wipeout like)
Rumble is kind of hit and miss in games I feel like. Some games have it, others don't, and others you have to disable Steam's input options for games.
