The 310 sounds a bit warmer a bit fuller and a bit more presence. However, it is a beast. The VP-03 does an excellent job and will practically fit in a pocket. I think I need to get one!

Roland VP-330 was used by vangelis for a long time (See you later, Antarctica, the friends of Mr Cairo, Horizons, Chariots of fire, The bounty...). VP-03 is quit the same strings sound. Vangelis has used later ElkaRhapsody 610 string machine in "Heaven and Hell" 1974 album. Eminent 310, VP-330 and ElkaRhapsody 610 are the best of analog string machines of the world.
We are living in a good time for classic synth fans when we can buy this, a credible minimoog clone & an arp odyssey, all in hands-on hardware format, with plenty of change from the price of a worn original of any single one of them
This is a true phinominal instument it has a beautiful clear unique sound as heard from jean michell jarre i really do love this wonderfull truely amazing machine i really do absolutely stunning and gorgeous
+1, great little string and choir synth with a killer vocoder to boot. It's every bit as good as the VC-330 only it doesn't weigh a ton and it doesn't take up half your studio space. It's just a pity that the VC-03 is only 6 part polyphonic so at some stage you're going to hear voice stealing. The original could play with unlimited polyphony. Depending on your decay settings tens of notes could be going on. In addition, with some settings it can sound a bit digitally bright. Nothing that a bit of filtering or EQ can't fix, though.
I have got the Eminent 2000, a Solina C112S (with ARP Explorer) and the Behringer VP340. Same difference as in this video : Eminent/Solina smooth and lush, VP340 metallic and thinner, but usable for live. The sad truth is: most people don‘t hear what we hear.
hello can i have the pic for the link between jack 6.5 and the eminent gate link??!! i can't see any jack for linking the eminent and the electro harmonix small tone phaser!!
The mini-jack plug is about half-way in the socket on the VP-03, so both stereo signals are sent on one channel, but I could just panned it to mono as the Eminent and VP-03 goes thru a mixer and into the Small Stone.
I want to have all the sounds I heard in that video and the same quality as I heard in the video, but I have nothing that you have there. For this, what do I have to buy? 1 - Roland VP-03 Vocoder? What cables do I have to buy? 2 - Electro Harmonix Small Stone phaser? If I don't find it, what should I buy to replace it? What cables do I have to buy? 3 - A VST\DAW? Which?
And when the Eminent 310Unique is too big, just buy the Solina String ensemble (same thing) or the Behringer clone. As long as you pair it with a Small Stone phaser (or a very good clone of that particular phaser) and a delay, you're going to have a LOT of fun!!
I hope the hum comes from the 310 and not from the VP-03... Otherwise, near the end (4:25) we can clearly hear the difference in Attack. The 310U being sharper/faster attack. Were you at the lowest setting on the VP-03 for Attack? Overall, it's a great simulation, and comes really close to the sound for much less space, less money, and a lot easier to find!
Yes; the hum is from the 310, this video was recorded before I replaced the electrolytic capacitors on it. The strings attack slider on the VP-03 was set to the lowest setting, but it still has a little bit of attack time, unlike the 310 which is full volume instantly. The VP-03 is a fairly good option if you don't have real string synth. I'm a sucker for string synths and I've always wanted a VP-330, but it's just too expensive/rare, big and bulky, and I already have enough vintage gear to maintain, so the VP-03 was a nice addition - it's the only boutique I have.
Thanks for this great video! Can you tell me please which delay (roland re-20?) and / or reverb effect pedals you have used here and how they are connected to the vp-03? I tried it with an electro harmonix small stone nano phaser on the left channel and a boss reverb rv-6 and a boss dd-7 delay on the right one, but my configuration doesn't sound as nearly like yours ... thanks!
The 310 and VP-03 are connected to my secondary mixer, a Tascam M-08 where the output goes into the EHX Small Stone phaser which again is connected to a Lexicon MX300 that does the tape delay, and on top of all that there's a little bit of reverb from my primary mixer, a Behringer Xenyx X1622USB.
Yesterday I bought an MX300 and now I know that the MX300 does the mono to stereo expansion. My setup is now VP03 -> Stereo to Mono Cable -> Small Stone Phaser -> Lexicon MX300 (Mono to Stereo Conversion) -> Boss Digital Delay DD-7. The settings of the MX300 are: TAPE DELAY (Stereo routing, without any following further effects) Tempo: 120 BMP Delay time: 333 ms Feedback: 75 Pan: Center Smear: 99 but something is missing again. It seems to me very "bright" as Juan in an earlier post noted. Is it possible that you filtered the brightness with the mixer? Can you please help me again? Many thanks! best regards John
Yes I did tweak the EQ on the Xenyx mixer to remove some high end, the VP-03 and 310 were not tweaked any individually. Don't remember the exact settings, but I used the MX300 in stereo mode with tape delay and set pan all the way to right, didn't use that much feedback.
I got a VP-03, need to get another 3.5 to 6.3mm adapter and run it through my GT-1. The Eminent wins but the VP-03 is good bang per buck (also a vocoder).
the EMINENT + Small Stone is analog so it has an infinitessimal resolution, u can hear no digital 'crunsh' in the sound, it sounds 100 % smooth and creamy, the VP is digital and sounds more rough and brittle, u have off course here the limits of the digitalistaion of the internet and the WAV or MP3 but the sound generation is the most important
The Eminent 310 is pure magic.
magic is the right word!!
The 310 sounds a bit warmer a bit fuller and a bit more presence. However, it is a beast. The VP-03 does an excellent job and will practically fit in a pocket. I think I need to get one!

I like the sound of the eminent ! I am a fan jarres music !
wow, what a surprise! i wouldn't have expected such a good emulation from this little synth!
Korg M50 also has the capabilities to emulate the Eminent

Just love it! Put phaser on anything and it sounds just wonderful! :) Using delay adds another dimension to it too.
Not bad at all ! I hope they'll also release a Boutique version of the RS-505.
For those of us that can’t fit an Eminent 310 in out lives, the VP-03 seems quite respectable
Sound of Jarre... Eminent 310 and Equinoxe memories...
2:50 you just remove the phaser don't you?
Yup!
Jean Michel Jarre's 'Oxygene' & 'Equinoxe'.
what an amazing and GAS inducing video - I am after the VP-03 now - thanks :)
Guapisimo lo vi en el video de copernico y me ha saltado este video ahora le doy un super like parece musica celestial
the vp-03 has nothing to be ashamed of itself in this video, but that's thanks to the phaser
This is a true phinominal instument it has a beautiful clear unique sound as heard from jean michell jarre i really do love this wonderfull truely amazing machine i really do absolutely stunning and gorgeous
magnifique The Eminent 310 U, très bonne video, bravo !
In my opinion the vp 03 is the best boutique from the series!!!

you make compare test your solina strings & eminent310?
Hi! Per Kristian, tell me about noise your eminent 310 turn on and no playing, have many noise???
I have got the Eminent 2000, a Solina C112S (with ARP Explorer) and the Behringer VP340. Same difference as in this video : Eminent/Solina smooth and lush, VP340 metallic and thinner, but usable for live. The sad truth is: most people don‘t hear what we hear.
Was Prophet used on Equinoxe?
No way..Eminent 310 is just so much better....!!!!!
Bello 🎹Sublime 👍🎶💯
Much smoother the Eminent 310. The Roland sounds a bit harder. But the weight is an argument :)
saving this video just so I can figure out how to play the chord sequences.
hello can i have the pic for the link between jack 6.5 and the eminent gate link??!!
i can't see any jack for linking the eminent and the electro harmonix small tone phaser!!
hi i am searching for a 24 volt light interruptor for mein eminent!!thanx
Very beautiful, but how do you put a stereo signal trough the pedal witout loosing one channel?
Also: Jarre

holy cow!! That is impressive!!! dang.
Fantastic - thank you!
Sounds good, is cheeper and mobile ;)
Can yo tell ME if you link the small tone to the OUTPUT FRONT SIDE OF THE EMINENT u310 AND RE SENT IT TO THE INPUT IN BACK OF THE U 310?
I'm owner of this one,and searching to obtain that phasing sound!!without any mixage table or other amp than the u 310

any vst available on net? This is great great great
Eminent very very the Best.

Does the mono to stereo signal conversion come from one of the mixers?
Yesterday I bought an MX300 and now I know that the MX300 does the mono to stereo expansion. My setup is now VP03 -> Stereo to Mono Cable -> Small Stone Phaser -> Lexicon MX300 (Mono to Stereo Conversion) -> Boss Digital Delay DD-7.

Is the russian Small Stone better than EH4800?
I've never tried the EH4800 model so I can't say, although I doubt there's much difference.
Is that the russian small stone?
Yup, this is the Russian model. It was run at 7.5v.
night and day
Eminent B417 is the poorman's Unique :)
Timbres idênticos

the Phasing eminent equinox iv is just a copy on vp emulation..
no way to compare the eminent 310 u and small stone are unique
EMINENT
Roland, good toys, but nothing more... Near to Eminent disappear...
analogic forever.....
the emient 310 u is better than roland vp03............................
When it comes to these kind of sounds, nothing beats an Eminent 310 ;)
Obtaining and shipping a 310 is just a tad more expensive and difficult. The VP03 never intended to be a 310. Just it has a similar texture.
LUCIO BATTISTI QUESTO INFERNO ROSA 1973, EMINENT???
