I do a quick comparison of these two smaller acoustics. Sorry the amp didn't pick up that well. Art & Lutherie AMI Cedar Taylor GS Mini - amzn.to/303Qu7O
Nice playing Rick. I have owned them both, and prefer the Taylor. However, around here, a used A&L can be had for $200-$250 , and the Taylor , which keeps its value well, can be had for $550-600. ( Canadian ). Interesting comparo.
First of all, Excellent playing!.... I have three Godin made guitars, An Art and Lutherie 12 string, a Seagull Coastline S6 and a Godin 5th ave, Kingpin... Love 'em....... Just recently got the A&L 12 string off E Bay and fell in love with it the minute I got the new strings on......After owning these guitars, I really see no reason to buy a Martin or Taylor........
They are good. I had a Seagull S6 but I sold it. I also had a Godin Multiac nylon string that I sold a while back. I have a Godin Mandolin. As nice as that guitar is, I still gig with my Martin, my Taylor or one of my Larrivees. But I hear what you are saying. It's great stuff for the money. Thanks for your kind comment!
So Glad You did this video. I had my heart set on my 1st. real guitar to be the GS. But then I stumbled into a local shop and found a lightly used A&L AMI. Just loved the way it sounded. But always wondered in the back of my head did I make the right choice ? BTW those are fantastic deals. Around here the AMI goes for about 400.00 and the Taylor about 800.00 new. (electric acustic).
It is like comparing apples with oranges. Acoustically, they are designed for different purposes. I have both and love them both of their unique sound qualities.
Keep in mind before purchasing the Taylor (which I like a lot) that it has a shorter scale length and a shorter nut width. Also the tops of these guitars are different so it would be better to test the spruce version of Art and Lutherie. There are a lot less spruce tops of the Ami. The scale length of the Ami is also a full scale.
Thanks Lucas. My Taylor has a Mahogany top. I chose the guitars based on the size and the fact that I have both of them here. I think this was my 15th or 16th video. It was a little while ago so I wasn't as scientific. It's got quite a few views though. Peace man!
Hmm. The Taylor sounds more refined but also more generic. The A&L seems to have a distinct sound that's kind of raw and "old"-sounding, like the kind of guitar I'd imagine you'd hear in a small town 80+ years ago.
Yes. The A&L definitely has some character. The Taylor has about 3x the bass response when it is in your hands. The Taylor works better on a gig. The A&L is my choice for the back yard with a bourbon and the dog.
No problem, thank you for posting the video(s). That's definitely quite a big difference in bass response, though I guess it would stand to reason that overall the Taylor would be the better guitar, given the price difference when new and all that. I also read (or saw?) that with the A&L connecting the neck at the twelfth fret, that can account for some of the sound differences.
A&L's, all that I've played, are an amazing value. The screened decorative bits around the sound hole and on the headstock, give them a retro, vintage department store, or cheapo vibe, in pretty direct conflict with how good they sound and how playable they are. The Taylor mini's are Taylor quality guitars. Very nice. There's certain matters of taste, but I don't think the price difference is reflective of qualitative or functional differences between the two. The new A&L models out just now are closer in price to that Taylor. I'm not in the market at the moment, but I'd certainly check them out, base on recent demos I've heard and previous playing experiences. This is a very good demo, IMO. True head to head deal, with close to equal guitars of different origins. Cool!
I'll take em both LOL. Bought my daughter an art and luthurie guitar. Great sound. You ever played seagull s6 original cedar top? Holy smokes. Great finger style. My fingers are all over the place when I play
Thanks ! I like the A&L for soft picking and the Taylor for strumming,, but actually I really do not like Parlour or smaller size guitars for strumming .. but I am no pro by any means
The GS is an amazing guitar but I have only had my hand on an Art and Lutherie once. But I prefer the 12 fret guitars ! Being over 70 it is a lot easier on me.
Your playing is very tasty which makes anything sound good. The difference is in the overtones. The Martin has more of them - slightly - in an ever so subtle way, but it’s there, and would sound richer on a recording. But I suppose most guys aren’t using a parlor on a recording... Cheers mate. Thanks for this.,
Nice playing, found your commentary a bit hard to hear. Thanks for the review but you’re a good example of it’s not the guitar so much as the player and you’re good. Nice.
I also make a point of playing/strumming right in the front of the sound hole at the base of the neck for the fuller sound. My parlor is actually a nice find I got at a DFW music store, the LAG Tramontane T77PE parlor. It's great! Wahi' Valleys
Jeepers those tiny guitars sound amazing. Great playing Rick
They are!

Just bought an Art and Lutherie mini at a pawn shop in really good condition for $225. Incredibly fun to play, so glad I got it. It’s my new baby.
Listening to this comparison.. I think you did well. To me the A&L sounds way more interesting than the Taylor.
Thanks James. This video was a few years ago and I still have both guitars. I like both.

enjoyed the review, I am looking to buy one of the Ami Cedar's, subscribed
Thanks man. I like that little guitar a lot. Good luck!

Me too. Thanks for watching.

My wife had an S6 when we first got married. It had a good sound but I didn't like the neck. Thanks.
Rick, can you tell me what that pedal was at 9:00 please. I know you thought it was driving too hard but i really like it.
Bevis Butthead it’s a MXR D300 Reverb and an expression pedal. Here’s a link to my review of it. ua-cam.com/video/mkKI-lS6dM0/v-deo.html
And Thanks for watching!
Taylor has a fuller sound and you can play it higher up the frets.
Hello good man, for you wich is the best sound and construction?
Taylor is. Thanks for watching!
Thanks ! I like the A&L for soft picking and the Taylor for strumming,, but actually I really do not like Parlour or smaller size guitars for strumming .. but I am no pro by any means
Sounds right to me. Thanks for checking out my videso, Linda!
Your Welcome @@RickRomanelli
Have you had a chance to try out the new Art & Lutherie Roadhouse parlor guitars?
I have not had a chance. I think they have those at Guitar Center, which is on the other side of the city from me. I will try them for sure though.
hello, how much does the nut measure of the art & lutherie?
Hi Filippo. The nut width is 1.72. Thanks for watching, please subscribe!
The GS is an amazing guitar but I have only had my hand on an Art and Lutherie once. But I prefer the 12 fret guitars ! Being over 70 it is a lot easier on me.
The A&L guitars are very good guitars. I do think the Taylor is easier to play. Thanks for watching!
The A & L didn't get to show it's true colors here, as they have the perfect blues fingerpicking tone.

My recording rig was not as polished when I made this. Maybe I'll try a new video about this guitar. Thanks!
After watching this I sold my Ami and bought the mini mahogany, just love it. Never warmed up to the tone of the Ami but liked the size for travel.
I hope you enjoy that little acoustic. I still dig mine. Thanks for watching.
Thank-you for an excellent video👌
Nice playing, found your commentary a bit hard to hear. Thanks for the review but you’re a good example of it’s not the guitar so much as the player and you’re good. Nice.
Thanks Tom. It's one of my earliest videos, so I'm not surprised about the sound. Thanks for watching and the nice comments.
The "Art" paints a better picture! Wahi' Valleys
YES! That's brilliant. I'm playing it today.
I also make a point of playing/strumming right in the front of the sound hole at the base of the neck for the fuller sound. My parlor is actually a nice find I got at a DFW music store, the LAG Tramontane T77PE parlor. It's great! Wahi' Valleys
art and L sounds way better
Thanks for watching and commenting. I like both!
Apples and oranges.
Yes. Both good for you. Thanks for watching this, one of my oldest videos.
Why is the sound level so low
It's an old video. I'm much better at it now. Thanks for watching.
Taylor has better sound quality, sharper.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I like both of course.
You will not get the full potential of the A&L with coated strings. Better try the original Godin strings or D‘Addarios EJ16
Well, I haven't changed those strings in some time. I'll keep it in mind.
AUDIO !!!
Why did you shout AUDIO at me?
shut up I can be rude also to entitled people
