What is good is that Garmin will have people snapping at their heels - I’m a definite Garmin fan but having Suunto and Polar up their game like this is good for the whole market and the consumer
Its odd how somehow very niche features can become deal breakers. For my trail running, I find Garmin’s Up Ahead feature during routes to be almost essential. If Suunto,Coros and Polar can improve the mapping and navigation a bit for labels etc, and do something similar, it’ll be good for all of us
Had the Suunto 9. Everything (Soft+Hardware) complete crap compared to Garmin. would never Switch away from Garmin. Only if Apple brings a watch comparable to Fenix or Enduro.
Lol I love that i’m subscribed to all the UA-cam channels that review sports watches so the moment the embargo is lifted I suddenly have a feed full of the same watch reviews 😂
The heart rate problem is interesting, I've had that once with the V3 on a run when I didn't tighten it up up a bit before starting, it was pretty obvious when you looked at the chart though. Maybe it's switched momentarily other times and I've not noticed. The V3 is a simple choice for me for the 5 button interface and the app features I use for training, so if I wanted the same things from a tougher watch this would be an easy call. If I was less sport orientated I'd probably get a Garmin for the better mapping, or coros apex or suunto race for the price. Having said that I'm on my third Polar and haven't paid full price for any of them, even the pre-ordered V3 was on 15% discount (shop around!).
Definitely feel like they are pricing themselves out of the market with this one. It truly is a beautiful watch but with it being so much it isn't going to pull polar from their current market share. It offers way less features than Garmin, if you can't compete on features you have to compete on price
I've always been a huge Polar fan ❤and I like the app's interface by far the best! But for everyday use, I say if you have an iPhone you can't go back to any other watch without an Apple Ultra watch with an eSIM card. Nevertheless, my M430 is preferred for competitions, it is half as heavy and doesn't surprise me with intelligent messages that distract me at the wrong moment😅
I also have the Apple Ultra. It’s been a huge disappointment. The health metrics are rubbish for athletes and very amateurish for “normal” people. With the exception of Apple Pay I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Nope. My Ultra gets it wrong every single day. Yet my 4 year old Suunto 9 Baro nails it. GPS is pretty good and heart rate is accurate most of the time although it does bounce around on occasion. As a smartwatch though for every day it can’t be beaten .
Thank you for your review & thoughts. I'm a long-term Polar user, but I've bought an Epix Gen 2 Titanium instead of Grit X2. White Epix Gen 2 was on sale for $699 AUD, I bought two bands from ebay for another $50AUD. That total purchase price is well below the Polar Grit X2 release prices.
Great review as always brother. As a Vantage V3 owner (and enjoyer!) myself I cant wait for the update. :) The only sad thing is I scratched my gorilla glass display on the curved edge and its a pain in the ass. :D Keep up the good work
I was hoping they would bring out a new Grit X, and that they would give it a MIP screen. Keep the Oled for the Vantage. That makes sense in a way since it is an outdoor watch, MIP has much better battery life which is perfect for outdoors The price is insane, worried this is set by the banks, since people are saying Polar is doing bad financially There is NO WAY on earth paying these prices. I can own a Fenix 7, AND a Forerunner 955 for that money, think about that, how bonkers that price is. Even the Vantage V3 is much cheaper (already on sale for $500 about), that is $300 less than their own other product, that does the same thing. Have owned many a Polar but Vantage V2 might be my last for a while Back to Garmin probably, and Suunto looks interesting too Polar is just lost in the woods, sadly, would have liked them do better But the new Vantage and Grid X are utter flops , when they needed to make a clutch move like the Suunto Race Hope you are reading Polar, because I, and iiuc others care about you as company, but you need to shape up or ship out IMHO 😢
i will agree with you on the MIP display. They would have think about keeping the MIP for the GritX 2Pro. Now they have 2 watches at the same almost area. If Garmin Fenix will do the same on the Fenix 8 and instead of the MIP goes for an Amoled i think they will definately loose lots of customers.
Great review! I replaced my Suunto T6 (from 2006) with a Garmin 965 over the Suunto Race bc the Suunto's 2nd class heart rate monitor is a deal breaker IMO given so much of the fitness related metrics are based on HR data. I did like the Suunto Race better aesthetically and it's sapphire crystal tho many inexpensive/great looking covers are available for the 965 on Amazon. My biggest disappointment is that my T6 pc app from 2006 will graph out EPOC with HR & time making it far more useful when honing cardio workouts given a desired schedule frequency - so Garmin needs to add that capability ASAP. This Polor looks nice, tho expensive, and I look forward to yr in depth review. Please focus on the companion Polor PC/Phone app functionality and HR monitor accuracy given it's the foundation of most of the smart watch apps. In fact, I'd love a vid comparing the PC apps from different manufacturers and any notable 3rd party apps as I mostly engage the data over PC or phone rather than on the watch. Thanks!
v3 or x2 pro titan hmm, mainly for a daily watch & the gym (strength and cardio) i will also wear and apple watch ultra. i do have a H10 chest strap. or look at a garmin like 7x prp/ epix 2 pro
Looking forward to your in depth review. I got hooked into the Polar eco-system and didn't really want to start again with competition like Garmin - even though until now they offer better functionality. I would love to see Grit x pro 2 vs MARQ gen 2
fun fact, both polar and suunto are from finland - having said it, both these two companies produce tremendous and glorious watch, well, I do have to agree with you on the price and the competition out there, especially when suunto launch the race model and garmin up-ed the ante by bringing in the epix gen 2 pro, with not only loads of software feature, but hardware too. its going to be a tough choice for consumers out there. im happy with my original epix gen 2 that is already feature packed, could be something to look at now, since garmin slash the price by nearly half.
Thank you very much for the video you make. Can you make a short video explaining how to use the option - Polar Grit X Pro | Track back and Back To Start It will help a lot. with feelings of appreciation
It’s a beautiful watch, but tough to stomach the price unless it’s packed with features. Many people looking to spend $850 (titanium) on a fitness watch most likely have a different “going out” watch (IMO).
Huge bummer after 12 years with Polar... Recently bought a used Polar Grit X Pro Titanium (6 months ago), but it keeps crashing, losing data (heart rate, activities), and many times it won't sync (tried Bluetooth & cable), so I have to make Factory reset once a week. Went to send it for repair, but found out Polar's warranty doesn't cover used watches. Garmin, on the other hand, warranties even pre-owned ones (got Garmin's confirmation by e-mail)! Plus, they have SpO2, Garmin Pay... It seems like Polar is falling behind and is slowly dying... Think I'll switch to Garmin...
Interesting. After having two Garmin watchbands fail, four years apart, with abysmal customer support response, is why I'll never buy Garmin again. However, for 11 years and 5 models, Polar's customer service has been stellar and on point.
This info might be useful: after changing my Samsung Note 9 for Samsung S24 Ultra problems with my watch stopped. Seems problem was in BlueTooth protocol. But still, Polar had writen theirs sync protocol very poorly and this shouldn't be happening...
Still no gym mode support with rep/set counters or even the possibility to create GPS routes from the app... Classic from POLAR, nice looking watches, with good hardawre, but super late on features 🙄 The only way the price would be really justified, is if POLAR sarted implementing features and firmware updates more frequently along the way, instead of going on with the 6 month watch releases like they still do today...
Polar is extremely slow at sending firmware updates. For me personally, I wouldn't touch this watch, no altitude acclimation, no jetlag advisor, no Barometer / Storm alarm widget! Lacking features
Thanks for the great review! Obviously they are still years behind, but I admit that I dislike Polar since they changed 50 German Marks for just replacing a battery in a heart rate monitor in the 90s....
was excited...until 2 min mark, where the price came out....at this pricing it is a pass for me. i am between the FR965 or the S Race. both seem to be considerable cheaper with all the same features.
Polar seems to be already struggling. Not to mention no one here in Utah sells Polar anymore. No one. Polar website or Amazon now. And you can’t even get the V3 on Amazon, and you can get anything on Amazon. So I’m really struggling to why they set such a high price point. Especially when Suunto said screw it, and set the Race at such a low price. I have the V3 and love it but I still don’t know it’s worth the 600$ price I paid. Maybe if it came with a sapphire glass screen? 🤷🏻♂️
Video molto bello. Complimenti sei bravissimo. io ho un Epix gen 2 ma voglio prendermi anche il Polar Grit X2 Pro.. non ho mai avuto un Polar ma mi attrae molto.👍🙋♂️
Informative video as always. Looking forward to seeing how this watch performs when the production models come out. Curious about how the accuracy of HR, GPS and sleep - but also recovery metrics - will compare with the competition.
Great video! The price is the hard part to swallow given that most of it's competitors offer the same or more features and music support (either streaming or load on) ... I do like polars sleep presentation tho. The UI seems a bit dated as well. Unless the watch performs a miracle in your testing (accuracy) ... it's hard to not look at the Suunto Race or Epix at this price range.
Hi can you include water resistance and swim analysis in your next videos? The 10atm water resistance was the main reason I had got the gritxpro, and there are fewer watches that cater to that section. Nice video 👍
Do you own them both? I'd wager not. In this case, keep the thoughts for yourself. Polar is out of their minds with this pricing. The Epix equivalent is much, much, much better (from music to NFC payments, stuff that's missing on the polar). I'd rather get a G-Shock move than this.
Wow, this watch is very beautiful. But I don't understand, nowadays, only Garmin can listen to music via streaming and payment method. Which is a shame for Polar, Suunto and Coros. Which makes a lot of difference to me.
I understand the appeal for popular features, but I wouldn't want my sports watch to get boggled down with features. If it were streaming music you're net connected, and possibly might get spammed with superfluous notifications.
Dave - quick question on this one. In the past, it only allowed one alarm to be set. Has that changed with the newer models? I know - odd question, but kind of a deal breaker for me. Thanks for your hard work!
I would consider buying it for 599€. You can easily get an Epix 2 SS for 620€ and an Epix 2 pro for 699€ on sale (Europe). With Wifi, Body Battery, Stress, way better Maps, NFC, 3rd Party Apps etc. So 749€ for the Grit X 2 Pro is way too much money. Polar Flow will need a overhaul too.
Great review was concidering to buy x2 but now you said it has no big difference between v3 so might concider garmin since 800 for this is bit too much
Looks like a really nice watch. Except the Amoled. That alone is enough for me to not buy one. I don't feel it adds any value, but it does reduce battery life. It's a watch. Especially given the low customisability of the faces, I don't see what it really brings. Never had issues with maps on MIP screens.
4:50 wow, I was not dimensioning how much ruggedly ruggeder (is that a word? anyway) the new G2XP is until I saw it side by side with the previous Grit X Pro. The looks are awesome, but I am affraid it may be too big for my wrist, I guess I would need to take a look at it personally. It is a good step forward, batterly life sounds promising, but the price is going to make it a really hard sell. I use the old Grit X Pro up to this day and I really like the aesthetics of it and has not bothered me with many weird bugs, nowadays it is pretty stable and reliable. I guess I'll stick to it for some time yet, and I hope Polar can get afloat with these new watches, which is find also a real hard sell, which is sad.
@@ChaseTheSummit Deadly I only go them a few weeks ago only out on a 5k so far though and just got my first Garmin today after watching your videos trying to compare everything hahaha
They're pretty different. The enduro 2 has much longer battery life, and an MIP display along with the benefits of being a Garmin (music, apps, nfc payments, etc...). The Grit X2 Pro has the AMOLED display which you might prefer over the MIP on Enduro.
Aside from the display, there’s really no competition here. The Enduro 2 is way ahead in almost every aspect (although waiting for the final review). But I still believe this claim will hold true even after the final review. Also, I much prefer MIP over AMOLED. But that’s me. But I must admit, it’s a very beautiful watch. Much more beautiful than the Enduro 2 imho.
Well, I came from the AppleUltra, cause it is definitely not a sport watch. My 965 is. Having said that the UI is crap and not really intuitive. Especially the App. !!! -- Thus please, could you make a (subjective) comparison review between the polar (vantage or grid) and the 965 !.? Not in the perspective of a smartwatch but more of an Athlet ((ultra-) runner.)) Which information are better in perspective of training, recovering, planing and like a actual competition (I.e. marathon). Please also compare the Apps and the Browser-Software. Does Polar delivers everything I need as an Athlet? I honestly think most of the gadget of the Garmin are not relevant. That might be great
If I didn't mention it it's the same as the Vantage V3. Both watches have the same GPS Chipset with multi band. The Grit X2 Pro has a redesigned antenna which Polar says will improve accuracy but as mentioned I won't be fully testing that until I have final firmware.
The Grit X2 Pro sure is a nice looking watch, but designwise it's just a copy of the Fenix/Epix-Series, which also hast become a little boring over the past years. I preferred the design of the previous Grit X an the Grit X Pro. Even with the good built quality, the price ist way too high in my opinion. For this price I would go for the Epix Pro or even wait for the next Fenix/Epix Generation - or save a lot of money and buy a Suunto Race like I just did, switching from my trusted Fenix 6 Pro after 8 Years with Garmin.
I do mention that in my Suunto Race review. In my opinion it’s something most people can get used to but if you’re sensitive to it then it’s a show stopper. When I say similar I mean in terms of features. On paper the Grit x2 and Race are nearly identical except one is half the price.
@@RumbleBack-iz3tl Yeah, you're full of shit, no offense. I recently returned a Race Titanium and it's laggy as all hell. Compared to my 7x Pro SS, it's not even a contest. Heck, even my G-Shocks move are better in this regard than the Vertical (GBD-H200 and GW-H5600). Suunto is crazy with their pricing and their carbon offset scheme. They need to remember than Finland's economy is different than the rest of the worlds (and i should know, my wife works there). As far as this watch goes, Polar have drank the same cool-aid as Suunto have. More expensive than the AWU2 and even more expensive then the Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 while severely lacking in everything when compared to them. Again, even the G-Shocks have better OHR accuracy and this baffles me since it's their algorithms but i guess a fool and his money...
@@ChaseTheSummit Now used Polar Grit X PRo Titaniium watches are going for USD 250 in my country . Im getting one , just to supp;ement my Suunto Vertical Titanium
Why would anyone pay the huge price tag if you could get a high end Garmin????. Even at half that price I would have to really analyze if it is worth walking away from Garmin
Are the software crashes common during activity on all Polar devices?? I’m a Garmin guy right now, but have been mulling over Polar and Suunto devices for my next update
Not historically. Polar's always been pretty reliable. The Vantage V3 initially had some issues I think because it was something very new for them. New CPU, AMOLED, first time having maps, etc... so there were some bumps in the road. I'm hopeful that those bumps are resolved in this latest firmware update but time will tell.
It's not too shabby in a GPS activity with over 40 hours in it's highest accuracy. Polar watches always have slightly lower "smartwatch" battery specs due to the way they utilize their heart rate sensor and sample more data thoughout the day.
The Epix Pro starts at $899 for the Standard model and has a lot more "smart" features like music support, NFC payments, the Connect IQ app store, and much more. The Suunto Race is $449 and has almost the same feature set and build quality. I guess in my opinion the Grit X2 Pro is positioned in a tough spot at it's price even though it's a great looking and built watch!
The are bunch of people (men) who will pay a lot for a good looking/rugged "sporty smartwatch". It has everething for them: sapphire glass, amoled display, steel, eye catching bezel and it can record some "activities". I know too many people who has epix/Fenix and barely using GPS activities (not even using also Garmin pay, music etc.). This might be the target.
How can Polar still forget to add a Barometer widget and Storm alarm!!! An adventure watch? Really! No altitude acclimation, no Storm Alarm, no jetlag advisor. GARMIN lead the way when it comes to features
I tend to agree that Garmin has set the standard but I do think these other brands to offer unique advantages in some areas. For example Polar has excellent sleep metrics!

Hello. Would you go for Polar Grit X2 pro or Garmin Epix 2 Pro 47mm? Which is better with smartphone interaction?
Great review was concidering to buy x2 but now you said it has no big difference between v3 so might concider garmin since 800 for this is bit too much
Looks like a really nice watch. Except the Amoled. That alone is enough for me to not buy one. I don't feel it adds any value, but it does reduce battery life.
It's a watch. Especially given the low customisability of the faces, I don't see what it really brings. Never had issues with maps on MIP screens.
you make the best smart watch reviews, can you please review the kospet t3 ultra.
Dude, Poler's turning to the Apple of Running watches.
How so?
Wow, approaching $1,000 and doesn't even support music? I'll be keeping my Forerunner 255 Music until it dies, which I'm hoping is a few more years.
How are you finding the cielo x1’s on your runs? Are you planning on doing a shoe in the near future or shoe reviews at all in general?
I'll have a video on the Ceilo X1's soon. Really like them so far but they do have a few quirks.
@@ChaseTheSummit Deadly I only go them a few weeks ago only out on a 5k so far though and just got my first Garmin today after watching your videos trying to compare everything hahaha
How would you compare this to the Garmin Enduro 2?
Much more beautiful than the Enduro 2 imho.
does this watch also have true smartwatch connectivity? ie Email, texts , incoming call notification?
Yes but you can’t respond to messages. Only view them.
That might be great
You’ve not said anything about gps antena, ifvthey are the same multiband or not
If I didn't mention it it's the same as the Vantage V3. Both watches have the same GPS Chipset with multi band. The Grit X2 Pro has a redesigned antenna which Polar says will improve accuracy but as mentioned I won't be fully testing that until I have final firmware.
Hello, is it good to recharge the polar at 100%?
Or did I have to charge it to 80%?
Please someone answer me
My understanding is that you can recharge to 100%
The Grit X2 Pro sure is a nice looking watch, but designwise it's just a copy of the Fenix/Epix-Series, which also hast become a little boring over the past years.
The Race is a beautiful looking watch. My next purchase!
I'll wait for your garmin instinct 3 review , thanks for vid .
Ha, aren't we getting ahead of ourselves?!
2 completely different watch types. Helpful comment that you added the the Grit discussion though
Suunto race is similar? Why don't you tell about laggy user interface in Suunto?
I do mention that in my Suunto Race review. In my opinion it’s something most people can get used to but if you’re sensitive to it then it’s a show stopper. When I say similar I mean in terms of features. On paper the Grit x2 and Race are nearly identical except one is half the price.
No longer any lag. Suunto have updated the watches extremely well. No need to buy anything else.
There is no lag in Suunto race or vertical after the last march update. In fact garmin is more laggy than my Suunto now
@@RumbleBack-iz3tl Yeah, you're full of shit, no offense.
Can you save locations
Not on this one.
Now the design is less minimalistic , looks kind of messy to me . I prefer the Suunto Race/Vertical's and previous Polar X 's
IDK, I'm a big fan of the design personally. It's a beautiful watch. But, that's just my opinion!
@@ChaseTheSummit Now used Polar Grit X PRo Titaniium watches are going for USD 250 in my country . Im getting one , just to supp;ement my Suunto Vertical Titanium
At that price, no way, I’ll stick with my Garmin.
Me too… with a Garmin thats double the price 😅
This may just be the most badass price we’ve ever made...
Yea I’ll take an Apple Watch Ultra 2 for the same price
Why would anyone pay the huge price tag if you could get a high end Garmin????. Even at half that price I would have to really analyze if it is worth walking away from Garmin
No spotify no deal.
A Garmin Fenix - without the maps... and many more. Sorry Polar.
It’s got maps. Just not routeable maps like Garmin.
@@ChaseTheSummit Yeah, I've seen it. They are a bit iffy to me. Not what we're used to.
for the price point of the polar watch it should have some sort of fall detection,
Not so premium battery life though...
It's not too shabby in a GPS activity with over 40 hours in it's highest accuracy. Polar watches always have slightly lower "smartwatch" battery specs due to the way they utilize their heart rate sensor and sample more data thoughout the day.
Man...miss the rose gold colour they had on grit X pro...maybe Ill skip this generation...
Suunto seems to be off on my step count other features. Garmin is still king but Fitbit is the best for metrics. I hope Garmin and Fitbit merge.
I really hope that doesn't happen lol. Unlikely since FitBit is now a google brand!
Fitbit best for metrics? What? I’ve never heard anybody (literally no one) say that when it comes to fitness trackers.
It support to have an updated video, Release date and updated Software
Stay far away from the Fenix price. They can’t even shift that watch
Why is the price soo bad? A 51mm Epix pro 2 is $1100 at best buy.. a 47mm is 999…. this is $250 cheaper
I think Epix is overpriced. I can’t wait to see what Coros does with AMOLED
The Epix non-Pro is at 750$ on Garmin's website (non-Sapphire, though). No-brainer.
@@highseastrader4190 not a no brainer to me though.. that’s the older epix although it’s not that old and no sapphire
How can Polar still forget to add a Barometer widget and Storm alarm!!! An adventure watch? Really! No altitude acclimation, no Storm Alarm, no jetlag advisor. GARMIN lead the way when it comes to features
There is an Altimeter and Compass widget but yeah, no raw barometer data or storm alarm which is odd for a watch like this.
@@ChaseTheSummit I am glad you agree Dave! Nearly all competitors have proper ABC, even Chinese smart watches have abc properly implemented
Is it just my opinion or all companies in 2024 are trying to catch with what Garmin did in 2022 with their Epix Gen 2 and Fenix 7?
I tend to agree that Garmin has set the standard but I do think these other brands to offer unique advantages in some areas. For example Polar has excellent sleep metrics!
Too expensive. I believe a watch of 600 is already too expensive. So anything over that is over kill.
Amoled for outdoor? No thanks! Suunto Vertical or Garmin Instinct 3X for me!
AMOLED has come a long way. In most situations I prefer it over MIP displays. Of course, that's just my preference. Thanks for watching!
Boomer comment
As a big Polar fan
No, not interested in this watch at all.
Liked the video
Not even on the same playing field as garmin, big pass
The hardware is there but it would be nice to see a bit more on the software front.
No thank you Polar! Too expensive.
Will be a failure. No music without phone and no LTE. C’mon it is 2024
One advice to everyone, STAY AWAY FROM POLAR!!! one more time STAY AWAY FROM POLAR!!!!
Why
Why?
Just because you said that, I'm buying 20 of them.
Very insightful comment
Thank you very much for the video you make.
Can you make a short video explaining how to use the option -
Polar Grit X Pro | Track back and Back To Start
It will help a lot.
