It's not a sin if it can be medication for someone with cancer, or keep someone calm to abstain from anger. Totally disagree with them on this and I suspect they're saying "yes, it's a sin" because they weren't looking at medical issues as a reason. They're thinking, "pot heads".
They are trying to look at it from a biblical perspective. If we all agree that getting extremely drunk is a sin, if someone is getting drunk because they have cancer and they are always in pain except for when they’re drunk, it doesn’t stop drunkenness from being a sin. If the same amount of something is a sin for a healthy person but not for a sick person then we are judging from a worldly standard and not a biblical one. I have no input on weed being a sin I haven’t studied that. But sin is still sin even if it distracts you from your pain or makes you feel joy and happiness.
I love these elders and I’m so thankful for these discussions. I would argue that we can’t just label it “sin”. The lack of self control for some is sin indeed, and something that every Follower of Jesus must tame, but to say that it is sin would mean that individuals who are really dealing with chronic illness and have tried it to help, and who found relief from their pain after deciding to stop taking big pharma meds, are in sin? I do not agree. That would be like me saying, “i took strong big pharma pain meds to help with kidney stone pain, but I’m in sin because it relaxed me and alleviated my pain to the point of feeling better.” Because it helps and feels good, it is sin? That is silly. The sin would be if I took those pills on purpose, all the time just to escape reality, which happened to many. The lack of self control is what caused the opioid epidemic. Lack of self-control is sin. Drinking even a small sip of alcohol can send an alcoholic into a bender because that was the foothold in their life. So to say anyone can drink a glass of wine at dinner is also silly, for the alcoholic who by the way was in sin not because they drank, but because they had no self control. They called Jesus a drunk and Glutton, all because he drank and ate. So I just don’t know about that argument. Of course, that is just my opinion and at the end of the day, we each should live before God and make sure we are in tune with our own conscience, being self-controlled. Each of us should strive to live in peace with others. I always appreciate these conversations, but I do disagree.
Yes your right God will allowed as a pain killer but not everyone does they lie to get it. Everyone I know that says they use it as a pain killer is a liar they sell it. I suffer from chronic pain in my lower spine I have been offered it but refused. They said they would give me a morphine pump I refused. They have warned me that the damage I have they said nothing can be done. But the pain would turn into a monster. They gave me pain killers but I have to be in pain so suver I'm on the ground before I take it. I tell you this in truth that it don't kill pain but just a mask. And after a time of constinly taking it the effects where off so it will no longer help. So it better to take pain learn to deal with it and take it only when you really really need it. If you don't when the time comes you will regret it in the long run.

I used to be a heroin addict, and drugs ruined my life and I hate alcohol so I never touch that. However, marijuana does not necessarily put one in an altered state, unless one's tolerance is low. In fact, I argue exactly the opposite of what John said.

I’ve seen many people become very corrupt after years of constantly smoking marijuana, but I doubt they would have ever been a Christian if they weren’t smoking weed. The point Christians have to remember is that we must stay sober-minded, I think that can be accomplished if you are using cannabis medicinally, but it’s harder to say if you are using it to become inebriated. I think if it’s legal there should be strict laws against people smoking before the brain is fully developed. The legalization issue is funny because states want to legalize so they can make money off taxing it, and they are ready to make it legal for them to sell but illegal for others to grow or sell themselves. I think that’s interesting it shows the state true desire to control.
Since we both have the same study bible, Galatians 5:19-20 A several places in revelation, Speaks of sorcery, a strange word to speak against cannabis? Not entirely. The translation from the word pharmakei. Certainly prohibits the use of all kinds of mind and mood altering substances. I used to try to justify smoking weed. But, in light of that truth, I gave it up. I'm curious to your response. I used think it'd be nice if it said otherwise, but it clearly doesn't. And in striving to be obedient, I gave it up. I struggle with things, and I wish I didn't. Pray for me, and I'd gladly for you also.
On a side note, I have by far and large been writing far better songs without ganja. Some of my UA-cam videos has some songs throughout the years. But, I've been writing so many new and better songs, I can barely keep up.
Very sad that Colorado residents decided to reintroduce wolves into the wild, but they voted no to protecting babies lives at 22 weeks. I have to wonder if the amount of people smoking marijuana has something to do with that.
Here's the question I really want to ask them and I really desire an answer because I have no desire to be in sin. I have what I call "ADHD paralysis" where I'm essentially "frozen" and overwhelmed with basic tasks, which negatively impacts me not daily, but often. I also have a fairly constant level of mild anxiety at almost all times and a hard time focusing. Very carefully I've discovered that "low dosing" marijuana (grinding up just a little bit with other basic herbs like rose petals and some pure cdb) calms me down so I'm able to push past the stuck feeling and complete tasks that usually I tend to be overwhelmed by, it also helps keep my mind from wandering all over the place and being "spacey". At very most it will make me a little sleepy, like I've had a busy day, but gives me no "high" and certainly does not alter my thinking by any means. Either that or there is a cbd/thc hybrid blend that works exactly the same in low dose, so no high or altered thinking. (Cbd chemically starts to cancel out thc when in equal ratio or higher) So while they may be right that you can't smoke a whole joint and not become seriously mentally altered, it is also true I've found that you can use it in "moderation" if done correctly (perhaps this varies from person to person however). So I assume as long as I keep my mental state clear/unaltered, then I am not committing a sin?
II was addicted to fentanyl/heroin and cocaine injections used to shoot up a couple times a day. If you're sober, You're sober. Define the word sober and just be that. As long as you're not crossing the line into the realm of "I want to feel that feeling again", and it's only to cure ailments.
@@taylormurphy5535 I guess I'm struggling to see where that line would be then. Because I definitely do want to keep feeling anxiety free, calm and level headed, i like that feeling and it provides that feeling. I assume not being able to focus and having constant anxiety in itself is type of altered mind state. So, I guess what is the bibical definition of sober? Like I say my mind/thinking is never altered, I am just as coherent with or without it. Would being a bit sleepy count as unsober?
@@theredqueen7021 Dear Sister, the problem is with Trust and faith, the bible says in 1Peter5:7 cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. and in verse 8 says be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. in this text Peter was telling the young to cast all their anxiety on him because he cares, therefore if you use other methods to prevent anxiety you will be in need of that method every time to prevent or avoid anxiety, which also means if you don't use that familiar method you are bound to have anxiety you will not be free from anxiety because the way you do it actual increases it and when you don't have means to use that way even for short of time you feel even a greater need to use it. and therefore anxiety and other metal illness that looks like anxiety, overthinking, worrying so much will constantly keep torturing you because in the verse it says "the devil roars like a lion seeking someone to devour", and these things will keep you from trusting in the Lord as the source of freedom from them and making you use other methods and doubting "the power of the Lord that saves and sets free" from these things, and doubting you can ever be free from them. that's why i advise you to Resist the devil by prayer and renewing your mind by reading the scriptures and asking the Lord to help you realizing the power of God in Christ that saves and trust in Him and have hope in him and joy in him, for it is written He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. I pray in Jesus name that he rescues you and set you free from ADHD paralysis and anxiety for His Glory and that you may have hope and trust in him wait on him always Amen.
@theredqueen7021 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. " I have also struggled with ADD and confusion about "where to start".. But I have used other methods to help myself cope. Prayer, reading the Bible, lots of notes and sticky notes. And a daily "List" of what I want to accomplish that day. Cross them off as they get done. It's a great feeling of accomplishment. If you're only able to do one thing on your list, that's all good. Notes for me are a necessary part of my daily routine.. I am not judging you, but I have a question. Do YOU believe it is sin for you to use the drug mix you're using to cope? I would recommend trying other methods of coping. Your mind would remain clear, and you wouldn't get sleepy. And your conscience would be clear. When using substances to cope in life, it tends to turn a person away from God, rather than towards Him. God bless you!
@@theredqueen7021 There are a lot of other things that you can try to see if they can help you get past those things. Just having weed in one's place as a Christian isn't a good idea honestly.
This is hilarious. Go and ask an alcoholic to have a glass of wine, then tell me how they act afterwards. Then tell me it doesnt alter someones consciousness
That doesn't make too much sense honestly. An alcoholic would feel nothing from a single glass of wine really, only some relief if they're in withdrawals. You don't get buzzed from a small amount, not like I drink any, but a small glass of fermented grape juice isn't a horrible thing. Smoking though is clear, i felt it myself for a while that it did certain things spiritually, though it seems very benign. Aside from just inhaling smoke all the time..
Well I think it’s more about what happens after that one glass of wine rather than the physical affects it. To an alcoholic it’s not about the one drink it’s about the ten that come after. That one glass of wine opens the floodgates to a second and a third and another bottle and a jump to liquor and so on and so on. Which is why a lot of alcoholics will just choose to not drink anything at all. I may be wrong but I don’t think they have the same thing for marijuana users .

The only way that drinking a glass of wine will not affect your consiousness at all, is if you are a regular drinker. If you smoke marijuana every day then smoking a joint will not affect your consiousness either. If you and your community just engage in a vice long enough that its considered tolerated and you no longer feel intoxicated by it, then its no longer a sin. What unbiblical nonsence.

That only means that you become a slave to both. They are not defending getting drunk vs getting high, it's obvious getting drunk is a sin. No you must not be in truth because if you where u know what God says. God says you can have a drink as long as you don't get drunk and don't drink strong drink. Don't get high it's the work of Satan. When you get drunk you get high it has the same effect but it is done different. Reason God says don't drink strong drink is because it could cause you to sin so He protects us. Think of it this way if it's ok to smoke hemp because God created it. Then you should be allowed to sniff cocaine because God created as a plant then it should be ok to shoot heroin because God created it as a plant. Then it should have been ok for Adam and eve to eat the fruit because God created as a plant. Now I bet you will come up with excuses for what I just said
A) at the wedding people said Jesus made the best wine. What makes wine good? It's potency. All alcohol is good for is getting drunk. John MacArthur is wrong for what he said. B) How can he say alcohol doesn't alter the mind? Look at the deaths, and violence resulting from alcohol use, VS the deaths and violence of marijuana use. Marijuana doesn't make you violent, or mindless. Alcohol makes people into someone completely different. There is no withdraw from marijuana but you can die from alcohol by drinking too much, killing your liver, and by withdraw, "the shakes" is what it's called.. Marijuana has never killed anyone or made a man beat, rape or kill. Alcohol has.

He explained that very well. Couldn't agree more.
Absolutely...
I agree ... I think it can be sin and that you can’t just make a blanket statement that it is sin ... especially when it comes to medical purposes
What an excellent point 👌🏽

I used to be a heroin addict, and drugs ruined my life and I hate alcohol so I never touch that. However, marijuana does not necessarily put one in an altered state, unless one's tolerance is low. In fact, I argue exactly the opposite of what John said.

Not a single thing in the Bible says smoking marijuana is a sin. Heck it actually says don't be drunk. It never says don't be high. Pack up a bowl light it up and smoke it! if someone doesn't want a toke then they're just a drag. Their loss

If MacArthur only knew I read the whole entire MacArthur Study Bible smoking pot number one number two what about Genesis 2:9? The real question they should have asked them is is it a sin to have outlawed God's plant to begin with? The answer is yes
And it doesn't alter your mind it enhances your mind not to mention if you drink too much liquor you will get drunk pass out wake up with a hangover and do things you don't want to do if you smoke too much pot no hangover it enhances your imagination to where you get creative like the old saying goes five drunk guys will start a fight Five stoned guys will start a band!
Since we both have the same study bible,

Very sad that Colorado residents decided to reintroduce wolves into the wild, but they voted no to protecting babies lives at 22 weeks. I have to wonder if the amount of people smoking marijuana has something to do with that.
No it doesnt.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. "
I have also struggled with ADD and confusion about "where to start"..
You dont know wtf youre talking about. If an alcoholic is sober, and you give him a drink, he will lose all control. @@naturalprinciples8520
Actually an alcoholic wouldn’t feel anything after just one glass of wine, as there tolerance is built up.

If you and your community just engage in a vice long enough that its considered tolerated and you no longer feel intoxicated by it, then its no longer a sin. What unbiblical nonsence.

Alcohol has.
that statistic is very very fake that they pass around about marijuana..
