Surprise is not the same as astonishment - nothing Mark does with a stringed instrument surprises me; everything he shares publicly is astonishing. Thanks for this, Mark. Really love the low register here, and the long, winding history of the song and the beautiful river and valley....
Nice, Mark. The Mando is so soothing. I often wonder what's happening in your brain as it is translating the music you want to create into the physical motions that make it happen. Congrats on starting up LIVE performances again. Hope to see you soon.
Does anyone have any advice or numbers on a mandocello setup? I recently acquired a Gibson K2 ‘cello, but let’s just say it’s nowhere near as easy to play as he makes this look. Trying to figure out if mine needs work or if I’m just a wimp.
@@jimmymahone5420 as much dick riding as this is, I'd actually tend to agree with you. The intervals are so physically wide that it takes some real juice to make one of these sing-tony and Norman could too.
Keep in mind how young he was when winning flatpicking and fiddle contests. Then his Nashville and tv career. See the Grammy's on the shelf? Magic belongs to Gandalf.
finally - someone can actually play mandocello
Amazing sound, incredible rendition of a classic. Cheers to you, Mark!

Likely nowhere as easy as this looks because Mark O'Connor is playing. Nothing to do with setup, everything to do with world-class virtuosity.

Late reply, but you're likely not a wimp. A good setup can make a big difference in playability and resonance. Worth the cost, IMO.
