My mum made me aware of Audie Murphy, she always watched his films and told me he was a war hero. I used to think she was kidding me I said to her "so they made him an actor" and she said yes. I watched his film and read about him and was blown away. Everyone should know about him in the world. Great man R I P

Obviously, Audie Murphy was courageous on the battle field. He was also courageous when he talked about suffering from depression and PTSD. At the time, no one talked about PTSD and Murphy opened up the dialogue on the topic. He was an amazing person.

I have always Honoured, Respected and Loved Audie Leon Murphy all my life since I was 6 years old...
The day Audie was killed in that air crash I cried and was totally unable to be quieted from my grief by my Mom....
To hear that Major Audie Leon Murphy was Honoured with this Award I cried again with happiness this time,
sadly my Mom never lived to see this come true...
America's greatest hero of all, Audie Leon Murphy was quiet and so humble letting his actions speak loud....
I found it so hard to understand WHY Texas took all these years to Honour this amazing man till now...
Major Audie Leon Murphy the GREATEST AMERICAN HERO OF THEM ALL, this is whom the young people of
today should work to be like, not the basketball or football people as they come and go...
As Audie's sister, Nadine said, " Your not really dead until your forgot." We will never forget Audie Leon Murphy, ever...
Audie came from humble beginnings and became A TRUE WWll HERO, best selling author and an American Movie Star....
REST IN ETERNAL PEACE AUDIE LEON MURPHY.... YOU ARE REMEMBERED. HONOURED, MISSED AND LOVED STILL TODAY.

It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for. Audie Murphy and Alvin York were both quiet, reserved men that let their actions speak for them. Thanks to both men for their service and bravery. I, for one, appreciate this wonderful country, and our freedom, that they fought so hard for. Plus the enjoyment of Audies' movies. Blessed be.

As a young boy he had to take care of his siblings during the Depression. But Audie Murphy rose from the ashes like a phoenix to become America's most decorated hero.
Unfortunately his life was one of misery and tragedy.

Left out he's the youngest most highly decorated soldier under 18 he got those medals under 18 and we wonder why they're called the greatest generation. Mr. Murphy thank you for saving so many single handedly. Your bravery was unprecedented, 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

There is a whole generation that sacrificed himself to save America from an enemy so terrifying that people did not believe were that bad until after the war.
He was a celebrity in an era were heroes were real. Actors like Lee Marvin and James Garner got multiple purple hearts for their service.

The actual youngest was Calvin Graham, also from Texas. He was 12 and was slightly wounded on a battleship at Guadalcanal. He then got in trouble for going to his grandmas funeral, then court marshaled for desertion. Great TV movie about him, where they placed him as a gun loader. He reenlisted in 1948 and hurt his back in 1951. He finally got his revoked medals from Jimmy Carter, but was a long delay before getting vet benefits.

A whole generation of young men like that made sacrifices to ensure that America would not be part of a Japanese Nazi state.
And those that survived the war came back to make America great. There was a massive recession in 1948-1949 and not one of them complained they just rolled the sleeves up and continued.

Thank you for teaching your students about him. If we don't keep his memory alive he will be forgotten. I hope you teach them about Alvin York as well. Young people don't have any idea what those men went through to keep this country free and to preserve all the rights many take for granted. This isn't to take away from our military people of today. But, most young people don't know anything about either Alvin York or Audie Murphy and both of those brave men as well as all of the brave men of WW1 and WW2 deserve to be remembered.

He was also a writer of country music. Critics said that he was a bad actor. I don't think so. He was believable to me. I'm an honorably discharged United States Marine but I've always admired Audie Murphy. My father was a WWII veteran, a tanker with the 761st Tank Battalion. He always had a great deal of respect for Audie Murphy. While a young boy myself and in Army JROTC in high school there were two U. S. Army divisions that I wanted to be a member of. The 82nd Airborne Division because of its depiction in the 1962 classic about D-Day The Longest Day and the 3rd Infantry Division because it was Audie Murphy's division.

My mother would tell what she knew about him..and I would watch the TV show he was in..and be fascinated by this brave man who risked his life..with others in situations we wouldn't imagine..I was horrified when he died in a plane crash a few years ago..and disgusted when pictures were shown of the wreck of the plane...totally without honour or thought of what they were doing..!!! I am extremely pleased that, at last, this honour has been bestowed upon him..he deserves this recognition as do all the men and women who took part in protecting their country...and still do..

The guy who received a battlefield commission, right? I read about him on Wikipedia a few years ago. The irony, to survive all that and then die in a plane crash years after the war… I don't doubt his bravery and his skills for a second, but most likely he also had his share of luck to accomplish what he did under those circumstances, without getting killed. I must say he had balls to talk about PTSD in those times. By all accounts he was an incredible soldier and a brave man.

He needs another medal and that’s for humanity,He did so much to join the military to support his little brothers and sisters and to put his life on the line to help feed his family I mean how could you not give that to him,It’s the small actions of individuals like this that helped win the war! Let me make this clear when I I say small I mean a small group of soldiers doing their job and it all adds up in the big picture! It was individual groups of soldiers like him that got the job done! Thank you to all that have served !
