    Very handy mod!
    There are many fancier designs but this one is quick and simple. It is sufficiently accurate for small motors, lights, and low-power car-audio testing/troubleshooting.

    oh man I have been retired so long I forgot what a watch was..( I threw mine in a drawer the day I retired and never looked back..) Man what a life, having to live by one of those again would kill me.. I know it is day or night, the rainy season or the dry season.. I know the year and on a good day maybe the right month.. But I do play with things like this day after day in the winter time.. fun stuff.. He's pretty handy with those snips! Not what I would call fancy.. but it works... I can't wait until he does the next one!

    At around 5:00, you drill holes through the metal case, just above the circuit board. That is NOT recommended. Removing the circuit would be best, but if you're lazy (like me), you can put a large piece of duct tape across the inside bottom of the side you are drilling. Stick the bottom edge onto the case and let the sticky side drape over the circuit board. Any metal shavings will be caught on the tape instead of shorting out your board.

    I guess it does job for you and it serves its purpose, however with just a little bit of effort and couple tiny changes alongside you could've made it slightly more capable and closer to that of "endless possibilities".
    If you bundled same color/voltage wires together you could've pulled out more current/power on each of three outputs (3.3V, 5V, 12V).
    This workaround is fine for motors, heating but it's probably not much useful for low-power electronics neither it's stable enough as it is. To get around that, it's often useful to connect a 10W resistor as a dummy load to one of 5V outputs (since 5V output provide more current). By doing so, PSU detects load and provides stable voltage and current across all 3 outputs...
    As a alternative you can also power on psu by shorting green wire with black on ATX connector using switch and so on...
    Those are just a few from top of my mind, as you can find yourself many good variations on internet...

    Not that new because there are many simmilar video's, but nice try. Little tip: if you use a screw on terminal do not solder the cable ends because on the long run the solder will ooze out under the pressure of the bolt an will make bad contacts. Better to use a crimp on cable shoe, or the bare wires.

    it works, but by not combining the wires by color he loses most of the aps of the psu. If you want it to run a heavy motor, you gonna need the amps.

    • @mgsamps
      @mgsamps 6 років тому +3

      Not necessarily, on cheap PSU's like this all the wires of same colour/voltage are actually connected together on the circuit board and come from the same SINGLE output, be it 12v or 5 v, if you want to draw a lot of current then it is just safer to combine the wires at the user end as together there is less heat and stress on 2 or 3 wires than one.

    • @robertcartier5088
      @robertcartier5088 6 років тому +1

      MG Samps,
      When I started reading your comment, I was wondering why you were seemingly disagreeing with boowonder888... But, it turns out, you were just explaining it a little better, but basically he meant the same thing you said. I was just confused there for a second. ... Never mind. ;-)

    • @mgsamps
      @mgsamps 6 років тому

      Robert, boowonder's answer is misleading in that he implies by not using ALL of the same coloured wires that we would get less current capability, which is wrong as they ALL normally terminate to the SAME solder pad of the pcb and have just a single output stage for each voltage rail (the extra wires of the same colour) are used to power other parts of the computer like multiple HDDs etc, you would still be able to draw the same current with one wire but it may get quite hot if you're using the total current stated on the PSU case for that power rail . More expensive psu's from the likes of the top end Corsair's, Enermax etc will have 2-3 SEPARATE 12v and 5v circuits with their own rectifiers and filtering, if the psu states 3 x 12v@20 amps, 2x5v @30amps then his point makes sense, but that would not be the case in that crappy Chinese psu he is using or ones like it.

    • @robertcartier5088
      @robertcartier5088 6 років тому

      MG Samps
      I don't remember any mention of multiple rails...
      I invite you to do the math.
      There are destinations for those wires that require more than one wire in order to supply enough current for that particular device or circuit. Why would they do that? How many yellow wires are connected to your graphics card? Are you saying that one wire would be sufficient? As you say, the wires all go to the same pad for any given color. There is maximum current potential at that spot. To assume that each of those wires can carry the full load is absurd.
      For any given current capacity there is a corresponding gauge of wire that is required to carry that full load safely, all by itself. You need at least that size by adding a number of individual wires. That is the only way to carry the max current available using those wires. Usually it's just a few. The only thing wrong in what he wrote, is the amount of wires that you'd need. Definitely not all.
      On the other hand, if what you are saying is correct, why is it that there are usually only two 12V rails on an average, modern PSU, and yet there are more than 2 yellow wires going to your graphics card?
      Because 2 yellow wires are just not enough. That's why.
      Now if you're still reading this extremely long comment, it means you care. If you care, you should do the math.

    • @mgsamps
      @mgsamps 6 років тому

      Robert, I think you misunderstand my point, as I already stated "(the extra wires of the same colour) are used to power other parts of the computer like multiple HDDs etc" if they didn't then as I pointed out each single wire would not be enough to cope with the load. BUT if you took a single yellow wire for example and were stupid enough to try and draw the maximum rating of that psu by using a clamp meter it would still read close to the maximum amperage rating but overload the single wire. So boowonder is correct in grouping all the wires together to SAFELY draw the max current but implied you wouldn't get the max current by using a single wire, and that also implies that each same colour wire was using separate circuits on the psu which it doesn't in most cases. hope we've cleared that up.

    Can I use the 5v to power the arduino and does it really matter if you combine all the wires of each color instead of having one wire form each color ?

    That watch makes your hand look small and fat. Edit: good job insulating the exposed wires with melt glue!

    Kako smanjiti amperažu koja je zadana po PSU(od 10 do 16A) jer neke komponente nećeju raditi na tako velikoj amperaži(pr. ako traže do max 1A)?

    which wire can you tell to use. I tried using any of the red wire or black and can't get power. If I use all red and all black, I can get 12 V.

    what would you use the -12v (blue wire) for? its the only one not shown used? every 12v example in this went to ground?

    • @clueless3891
      @clueless3891  5 років тому

      -12V (blue)and +12V(yellow) = 24V but it is only about 800mA
