Hi Jenny, I recently did the same & joined Hornby just to get this loco. I DCC fitted mine with a Gaugemaster DC093 so no wires ( I appreciate you have to stick with your sponsors). Even though the decoder is a Micro, and fitted the Ruston perfectly, I still had to trim the pins on the decoder. It still wouldn't fit. There is a column running up inside, behind the smokebox door that needed to be trimmed to allow the decoder to sit in. For crew fitting I found with the body removed from the chassis, you can undo 7 micro screws (1 at the front, 2 under each side tank & 2 under the cab) this allows the plastic body to come right off, allowing access to the cab floor so you can add crew figures without having to fiddle around. Loved the review, it is certainly a lovely little loco.
Hi, the LBSC livery is the yellow one, the brown is from Marsh's days on the Brighton, so both liveries are ok. Glad to see they have correctly represented the condensing gear or properly omitted it on the later models.
I am attracted to the subtle differences. Just so neat that an "A" and an "A1" has minute differences/modernisations between them. Awesome that you have caught these and shown them. Love those details!
If you can find it, there is a Stepney in the same livery that was released last year, same quality as Brighton and Leadenhall. Brilliant review as usual Jenny, well done.
Thanks for another great video, got my model last week fantastic model fitted dcc decoder had to watch you fitting decoder video as suggested by my wife 'watch Jenny' she said.Need to get the paint out now.
Great review Jenny, I agree with you on the A1X. When I think of Terrers, I think of A1X's like Stepney, it just looks smooth (no offense to A1 fans, it's simply my humble opinion, your love of the A1 Terriers is also valid).
I got Stepney. And I think they are a fantastic model Full credit to hornby. Full credit to you and zoe for a great video Well made well informative Keep safe arp
I love the Terrier - she's one of my favourite class of tank locomotive. I noticed the "bullet holes" in the front of the cab of my Hornby "Merton" when I took mine out the box for a closer look. I still love the original Dapol tooling as well and I think its still a great model, but side by side, you can see some significant improvements on the Hornby tooling. The Dapol tooling would make a fantastic budget model in the RR range.
I love my Leadenhall! But this one looks so nice, especially the application of the name ‘Brighton Works’, that is masterful. I am wondering if sound could be fitted by placing a tiny speaker below the coal in the bunker and making six to eight holes in the coal to let sound out.
This terrier looks so cool. I wish I had a layout so I could even think of getting one(& you have to join the club to even buy it). I think you've made a good purchase.
You CAN have a layout!❤️ All you really need is a board that's roughly 2.5ft by 4ft and that's enough for a nice first radius loop and some Sidings for shunting! Plenty for the 060 steam and Diesel locos!❤️ Just so it!❤️❤️❤️ Don't let space defeat you my friend! All the best!
@@IronHorseRailways It's not necessarily space, its more about money. Plus I live in the United States, which means most likely I'll start with American locomotives to familiar myself before I get anything British. But thank you for the words of encouragement as they are helpful.
15 made it to British Railways ownership and interestingly one was an A1 original version but for the life of me I cant find any photos of it or what happened to it. I also cant find any evidence of an A1 carrying Southern livery but I suspect some did. Anyone know?
I like steam to a degree but for whatever reason it's just not all that impressive to me... I'd rather see something like a Deltic or a Type 1 or 3 thrashing by.. Wheel spin is good though!❤️ Looking forward to #Gronkfest Will try get a video ready for it and send it in!
Excellent video. Have just joined Hornby club thanks to the video and for the terrier loco, very nice looking model. A first for me, always brought old triang loco,s. Please advise me. My layout is DC as the loco is DCC ready what needs doing for use on my layout. Thank you John
Absolutely nothing John. DCC Ready just means it's ready for easy installation of a digital chip. Don't put one in, and you'll be fine running this around like every other loco, as I'm doing with mine.
Hi Jenny, I have 5 of these new tool terriers including this one. I was thinking of fitting a direct plug (no wires) chip. Do you think that would work better?
I would advise against it, you do need to put the chip over the socket area. For a direct plug you would need to bend the pins to make it fit, and they can be fragile. In the end I went with the Hornby chip - the wiring is shorter...

Now that's a beautiful model! Hornby can make real lookers when they try! 😊

Are these still available? Can’t see them on the Hornby website but still see the 2021 club loco

All my locos are second hand ones anyway, can't afford new!
