@@davewilson7602 thanks! I’m a couple of years from retirement and I can see myself buying a popup camper for the bed, and the Ridgeline seems like it might be a little light in payload capacity for that setup. Other than that, it pretty much ticks all the ‘needs’ boxes (for me) for a recreational/sport vehicle.
@@richarde1355 ah actually for that case, truck bed campers of any kind are going to need any other truck than the Ridgeline due to the shallow nature of the bed and the way it goes over the wheel wells. The campers are designed for almost anything else Additionally, I’m sure there are some campers for midsize trucks but it’s possible you’ll need a half ton for the payload ability. Maybe a Silverado or Tundra or Titan?
@@davewilson7602 Mostly agree, the full-size trucks are obviously better equipped to accommodate a bed camper. However, there are some decently equipped campers out there for mid-size pickups. I saw a Ranger last summer with a nice camper on it; it was set up for a single person, if I recall correctly, and with a quick web search campers for mid size trucks are readily available.
Love how the 2023 Colorado was placed in this list yet there just now hitting some dealerships??? Lmao how can you rank a truck that isn’t even out yet?? No credibility here
Cause it’s a Jeep with a truck bed, so it’s cool. It does all the pickup truck things, but it’s a Jeep so it’s incredibly capable off road. You can choose from a bunch of trims, it’s offered with a 6 speed manual, you can get a diesel engine with huge torque, it has similar suspension to the Ram 1500 which significantly improves ride quality over the Wrangler. Gladiator is being refreshed for 2024, they are adding lots of much needed safety features.
@Carlos reliability, on road driving, safety features and engineering, style, durability, innovation, made in Canada and USA, love of Brad, fits mine and family lifestyle as we don't use to tow much...great for bringing items to public dump....picking up items too large for our RDX A SPEC or cars winter driving...going fishing or adventure in trails, plus when you check crashes of pickup trucks, you'll find Ridgeline has most survived and less injuries. Fact is it does more truck things than most people with full size will ever do.
I ordered the 2023 Trail Boss that is 3 inches wider and a 2-inch factory lift and fully loaded with skid plates, etc. What seems to be little known is that for a few hundred dollars, you can add the high-output engine (Same as ZR2). Should be here in about four weeks.
Man I love the look of the 23' Colorado Trail Boss. I want to get one in 4yrs when I pay off my 21' Canyon and hopefully it will be a retirement present to myself 😁👌 I know you will love the 430tq as I drove an AT4 and loved the power and that's coming from a V6 with 305hp and 276tq
Not surprised by the ridgeline being number one. Used to work at a dealership a few years back and one thing all the car salespeople agreed on was that for the vast majority of people buying a truck the ridgeline was more than enough for what they need. What they wanted however is a big ol’ pickup like all the cool kids drive lol. That said to be clear I’m a fan of the new frontier and own one. Not a fan of the ridgeline myself.
The best midsized truck is the one you buy, not because someone told you it was the best or the worst to buy. No offense, Dave. For example, my buddy has a Chevy S10. He says it's the best truck in the world. For each his own.
Loved my 92 S10. More of a compact compared to todays giants. Chevy should revive it as a true small truck. Throw in the indestructible 4.3 for extra points.
Lots are commenting about resale value being important for determining a best truck? I mean you buy a truck to use and not to do buy and sell. If whats in the mind is replacing it someday. Just do leasing.
Leasing a vehicle is the best way to throw away your money. Period. When you a buy a vehicle, it depreciates. That's a given. But residual value over time is wise to consider. Used Tacomas sell for about 6-7k less than the same exact trim/specs brand new (this was true prior to the pandemic, nevermind the ridiculous used car prices now). In theory, I could drive my Tacoma for 10 years and get about half of what I paid for it back if I ever decide to trade it in. Of course I don't want to trade it in, I love my vehicle. But looking at the vehicle as an investment, the Taco is the best bang for your buck long term, and the data backs it up.
None of matters unless the others can match Toyota reliability and they can’t. For me reliability is number one and nothing else is even a close second.
Yeah, well- we'll see in the coming years. But I'm betting pretty strongly that the Frontier is going to be the leader in reliability for at least the next few years. Credit to Nissan for keeping it simple- the naturally aspirated V6, the 9 speed tranny, nothing too crazy- just a good ol' pickup truck built on rails like it should be. The Ridgeline is nothing but a Honda Pilot with the back hacked off. It's an SUV that can haul a few more items.
My first truck is a 2017 ridge line, a lot of my friend laugh at me. Thru this day I think I don’t understand why I bought it. It’s a very simple answer it drive really nice. I don’t haul boat yet. But it very useful, it drive really smooth.
@@Mbolf24 why do ppl buy truck? What is the purpose of a truck? If you fix on, a truck must have bolt on frame to be a truck, then you don’t have functionality understanding what is a truck use for.
If you have never driven a Ridgeline then you don’t know squat! It’s the very best overall truck! I don’t need a bigger truck to feel big and tough. Does everything and more than the others! No one practically goes serious off road with how much trucks cost anymore.
While shopping for a pickup truck, I know most of my friends at work recommended me to get the new Taco, but the more I do the research, the more I think Ridgeline is what I needed. A truck drive "like a car" for daily commute, a truck that's not too high or low clearance (I'm small), a truck with nice design interior and exterior looks, has power folding side mirrors and a new nicer dash board (2024), a fair price with no dealer mark up! I also like the V6 because of reability. My current 2007 Odyssey has same engine size with+282K miles on it, I'm skeptical about the new Turbo 4 engine on Tacoma!! I'm not typical guy who buy and trade cars or truck every 5 years or so. That being said, I love the new redesign 2024 Tacoma... But my brain's still thinking towards more on the 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition.

The Ridgeline has the best (by far) back seat setup. being able to fold up the back seats and have a large flat floor area is major and ver functional. If Ridgeline would come as hybrid would be a major plus.

People STILL don't realize the Frontier has been fully redesigned. They still think it's the old 2010 model. That's fine, keeps the price down and now it's the best value of any midsize out there.

The campers are designed for almost anything else
Additionally, I’m sure there are some campers for midsize trucks but it’s possible you’ll need a half ton for the payload ability.
Loving my 23 frontier. Such a nice ride.
Looking forward to a ridgeline redesign, improvement on the pilot for 2023, so I assume the next ridgeline will be more rugged
Same it will be rugged Honda Odyssey this time unibody hauling same old three sheets drywall
Love how the 2023 Colorado was placed in this list yet there just now hitting some dealerships??? Lmao how can you rank a truck that isn’t even out yet?? No credibility here
They need to go back to old school shifter. F buttons.
Ridgeline is a CAR that looks like a truck
I own 2 Jeep wranglers, a 2020, and a 2022. With that said, I don’t know how you picked the Gladiator so high up on your list. Priced way too high.
I just need to tow 4k. My tacoma destroys my back every trip. I get home feeling like i got in an accident. I think its time for a ridgeline.
Ridgeline still best for me and love my both generations
Why it's the best in your opinion?
I would be interested but lack of LED lights is a no go. No option for it also. No reason to spend that much on a truck with bad lighting
Just ordered a 2023 ZR2. Cheers
I'd be interested if heated seats and steering wheel were standard or options. Must have imo
Man I love the look of the 23' Colorado Trail Boss. I want to get one in 4yrs when I pay off my 21' Canyon and hopefully it will be a retirement present to myself 😁👌
I know you will love the 430tq as I drove an AT4 and loved the power and that's coming from a V6 with 305hp and 276tq
@@ranran2218 i can put LEDs in for a few hundred bucks
I have a 2022 Colorado Z71 and im very happy with it.
It’s best to worst guy
The best midsized truck is the one you buy, not because someone told you it was the best or the worst to buy. No offense, Dave. For example, my buddy has a Chevy S10. He says it's the best truck in the world. For each his own.
Loved my 92 S10. More of a compact compared to todays giants. Chevy should revive it as a true small truck. Throw in the indestructible 4.3 for extra points.
Seeing as how they don't make FWD ridgelines anymore, all AWD ridgelines are legally half ton trucks like an F150. Most gladiators are as well
Ford Ranger should be the best midsized truck out there, the Honda Ridgeline is the worst it's all backwards
Well said , I couldn’t agree more !
Toyota is like all brands. It will still needs parts. Nothing special.
Kevin, yes all vehicles eventually need parts/work. But Toyotas run and run and run with much, much less repair/parts/ expense than any other brand.
@@Mbolf24 please explain what is a truck to you?
@@Mbolf24 why do ppl buy truck? What is the purpose of a truck? If you fix on, a truck must have bolt on frame to be a truck, then you don’t have functionality understanding what is a truck use for.
@@Mbolf24 I ask you what is a truck, you answer what not a truck lol.
One category that no one seems to mention is longevity. 10 years from now or maybe 20. What percentage are still on the road. Or still working.
If you have never driven a Ridgeline then you don’t know squat! It’s the very best overall truck! I don’t need a bigger truck to feel big and tough. Does everything and more than the others! No one practically goes serious off road with how much trucks cost anymore.
Drove the Honda Odyssey that's just as close lol it felt rugged too
I like the ridgeline but it looks the worst
@@Mbolf24 coming from you? Haha
Lakers blow
Where do you get these msrp prices I can’t find any of these trucks for under $40,000
I have a 2015 Chevy Colorado z71 absolutely no problem 105,000 miles never any problem but normal servicing, v6 bullet proof
What happened to frontier?

Not a taco fan boy but everyone I ever talked to about their tacos love it and wouldn’t switch to another midsize truck
The seats on the Tacoma are uncomfortable, for the $ 50,000 + they want for them it’s unacceptable !!!
I’m 5’11” and the seats are comfortable to me. Also, I picked up my ‘23 TRD Off Road for $42k.
Looks like the new mid size trucks are finally catching up to the tacoma but now they all look like the tacoma
🤣👍
😂🤣😂
Only 1 truck caught and passed it. The new 2023 Colorado and canyon. Toyota needs to surpass it in 2024 but I don't think they will. I am waiting for the 2024 Tacoma to come out. Then i will pick the best of the 2 brands.
Let’s be real here. They all haul air the same. Some are just more fuel efficient 😂
WANT TO WIN, MAKE A SMALL TRUCK LIKE NISSAN OR TOYOTA OF THE 1980S. WE ARE TIRED OF MID OR FULL SIZE. SMALL PU SMALL PRICE. THEN U WIN
GREAT VIDEO...Really gets the info out.. Congrats DJF / Tenn : )
The Ridgeline's i-VTM4 AWD system with some Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails is all I need and it's what I want also.
Need to redo this with the 2023 Canyon
GMC Canyon downside is no manual tranny? Looks like it has a very good value but for the serious off-roady.
Toyota doesn’t ball around when it comes to prices my cousin bought her 2018 Taco TRD Sport for $ 43000 out the door.
I got mine 2022 Taco TRD 4x4 OR 53k $ out the door.😢 I’m paying above Msrp oh well hopefully I get back 60% if to sell it used that’s what they said it has good resale value.
Got an army green 2022 trd off road premium for 43.5k in February last year.
So the only knock on colorado was lack of choice in engine and it was second to worst but somehow the Nissan jeep guzzler are better cause keyless entry and military stuff. Got it
exactly.....He didn't really make sense on why they were ranked how they were
Colorado has other knocks as well just weren't mentioned. 5 ft, narrow bed, is just awful for a truck
@@BiggNewt that’s not my biggest concern to be frank. I’m much more worried about mechanical/fuel costs. I also prioritize having a short bed for convenience reasons, do you mind telling me anything else I should be concerned about?
@@MrFirextinguisher well the 2023 isn't out yet so I can't go by anything other than the specs. Cramped back seat seems to be the same as before. I was all in on buying a 2021 Colorado when I was looking, but couldn't get past the cheap interior and that cramped rear area.
From 2023 going into all these redesigns of midsize trucks, which truck would be the best option for off road capability and a daily driver?
I just test drove a Frontier. It was really nice in the front interior. The back seat is a deal breaker. Same back seat config as my 2012 Frontier.

We Love our (my) 23 Toyota TRD Off Road double cab with the Premium and Technology pkgs and the 6’ bed.
I had the choice of a slightly used (6K mile) 23 TRD or the redesigned 24 with the Turbo 4cyl.
Historically a Naturally Aspirated (NA) engine is more durable and reliable than a Turbo.
So that’s why I chose the 23.

The Gladiator is actually a really good package tbh
The Ridgeline has the best (by far) back seat setup. being able to fold up the back seats and have a large flat floor area is major and ver functional. If Ridgeline would come as hybrid would be a major plus.
Yeah but not having an old school shifter and electronic parking. Hell no.
I'm with you! I need to fit a cooler on the floor of back seat (Live in triple digits Texas) & 1 human, 1 German Shepherd & 1 Lab in the back seat.
I have a 2020 Ranger xlt. Hate the back seat arrangement. going to trade this summer. For first midsize that has a flat fold down rear seat.
What new truck should I buy if I absolutely hate electronics?
You decide.
Not sure how the Honda & Jeep are the top two. They seem like lower selling outliers whereas the other 5 seem more like direct competitors to each other.
because objectively speaking they are the top 2
I think they accidentally played the list in reverse.
Best truck on the list is more of a crossover than a truck. Paraphrasing here but… great at crossover things, worst in class at all other truck things. How did it make the top of the list 😂
GMC's mandatory OnStar is a deal breaker for me
I’m getting 24mpg on the highway & 15mpg when towing my 5700# car+trailer with my 2021 Tacoma trd off rd 4x4 with a automatic, I have 32inch tall tires, 1.5 inch lift for the front and 1 inch lift for the rear , fox by pass shocks on all 4 corners. I love it for on road and off road , by far my favorite truck I have owned in 27yrs
Does anyone else miss the actual midsize trucks from 2005 era? Where the backseats were actually big enough for passengers
I just can’t bring Myself to want a Japanese pickup truck. If you want a sedan or an SUV, absolutely go Honda or Toyota, but if you want a pickup truck, gotta go with one of the big 3.
Nissan's suck at fuel economy. My Titan on a GOOD day, cruise control, no hills and on the interstate will pull 19 mpg. Hook my pontoon boat up and the mpg drops to only 8 mpg.
I like my 2023 Tacoma. 'nuff said
Great video, very informative.
You don't mention which trucks come with an extended cab anymore. Enough with the 4 door trucks already. Or the bed sizes lengths .
At4 is the twin to the Colorado they combined those two sales... however I'd stick with the Nissan na v6 don't care for 4banger turbo's and the towing that's funny ain't no one towing lmao majority people buying these trucks stay on pavement haha. Plus moving up to the fullsize need the bigger bed.
And it comes standard with things like heated seats and steering wheel which most don't have or have to get the top model.
The Ridgeline is a truck?
Good review and video but for my zipcode, FORD would not come up!
Why is the Ridgeline number one?
Ridgeline is good in the city

200k+ reliability: the Japanese ones.
Curious your opinion on the Ford Maverick.
Nissan Frontier Forever
People STILL don't realize the Frontier has been fully redesigned. They still think it's the old 2010 model. That's fine, keeps the price down and now it's the best value of any midsize out there.
Ranger sales have tanked, old bland styling, and he's rating above Colorado and Canyon bahaha this guys brutal ridgeline first hahaha not even a truck
Looks like a Maverick does most of what these customers need.
Yes, but too small interior space.
Who is rating these trucks? If it is Consumer Reports then you need to cut in half complaints for GM products in half. They do not like GM and are biased. Good journalists are beginning to see this and comment on it.
I think people forgot that truck is to be a workhorse, not a leather sit comfy ride lmao... People buy trucks to use it, if you are buying truck for comfy ride and fancy stuff you aren't a real truck driver, not even a construction worker. Honda can barely tow 5K lmao, might as well buy SUV tahoe or 4runner, seq even can tow more xD
I love the Toyota Tacoma but for 22 & 23 the TRD Pro colors suck! unless you want everybody to see u lol... I think the army green, lunar Rock & cement colors were the 🔥... Or he'll minds the Blue crush metallic which looks pretty sick itself
Hey Narrator, why didn’t you include what Consumer Reports, ISee Cars and Edmonds have to say about the Reliability and Durability of these trucks?
