It's silly, but this is the first time I've been so engaged in one of Jon's works in a while. For once, I have to agree with the masses, I would greatly appreciate this becoming a full series. It likely won't, but still.

I’ve seen a few people play this but what I love about watching Jon is the way he logically puts things together and comes up with theories and talks them through. Most of the other LP’s I’ve seen tend to just do what the game wants. 😂
We mock his perception when it comes to common object identification - but his intuition and interpretation of evidence is oft FBI Agent worthy. He understood the building and the gun and even the janitors relevance all before being introduced properly into events.

Considering the inspiration for this - SCP foundation - has scips everywhere in space and time... I'd say the moon is quite normal. And they have a few there anyway.

it is a metaphor that the director assist the janitor to take care of the "vermin". The janitor is at least equal of the board in term of power or status.
Thats the point. The director is the assistant janitor. Keeping the world clean and all that.

@Jon a few things. 1. The building rarely shifts but even people with good perception get lost in it easily. 2. You can eventually pick up enemies and throw them. 3. You are closer to 2% done then 20% And that isn't even counting secrets and sidequests.
@@pbsixgun6 You can run through it pretty fast (and miss the best parts). I guess the perception of it being short comes from some reviewers who did just that.
Jon thinking he's 20% done with the game the first time he goes to maintenance is hilarious. lmao Try about...2%.
There's a lot more story here than it seems on the surface.
I did find it wierd that he that he thought was so far into the game when he had only just got the upgrade tree. That typically happens at the end of the tutorial.
@@russellpesek Yeah, I don't know why he assumed its a short game. I really hope he does a series because it just gets crazier as you go and there is no shortage of new information to find to try and make sense of it all. Plus it has one of the coolest maze segments I've ever seen, and its tons of fun.

@@MrGhosta5 That's also true. Its a game with lots of layers to it and its such a joy to unlock them. Jon would enjoy it a ton. You can tell the team that made it were passionate about the project and had a ton of fun with it.
Anyone noticed the tiny detail that the gun actually dematerializes and rematerializes whenever Jon switches to and from it? It can be seen quite clearly at 32:41.
I love how Jon just straight up murders so many staff members who could've been cured of the Hiss because they're just floating there and he doesn't trust like that. They float and that's good enough reason to murder them.

Mate, its a light switch XD Literally just changing the lighting until the third time takes you somewhere. And yeah, more like 2% rather than 20% done, getting access to areas isn't the same as finishing them. There's at least 18 hours into this game, even just running the story points and not getting all the side stuff done.

There's really good environmental storytelling too; not just in the broad strokes but in everything from bathroom designs, built in stair ramps in departments with dollies, desk clutter appropriate to the department you are in, and signage that says what's going on. Great stuff 👍🏽
Oddly the thing I probably like the most about this game in the board. I don’t know why but I find the idea that the horrific sentient house is not your arch enemy as it usually is very cool. Instead it’s just strait up your boss (or whatever power relationship between CEOs/directors and board normally is).
Since it seems like John is into SCP’s, I wonder if he’s heard of Lobotomy Corp, and if not I think it’ll be right up your alley John. Also I think modern game designers are trying to tell me that they’ve seen the astral plane and it’s very cubic and crystalline.

In reality we only know it teleports couples to a private place to bone down for the length of the song. (But they don't get teleported back if they roll off a cliff and die, which is why it's locked up so securely in a highly trafficed area.)
A good word of advice, if the janitor is old and either Irish, Jewish, or German, he is incredibly wise and you must listen to him no matter what.

SCP meets Bioshock. I like it, though it does bug me a little bit that we have learned basically nothing about the blue voice by now. Also character and facial animations are weird, almost robotic, during conversations. They're very good when Jesse is thinking about something in her internal monologue but very strange when Pope is talking.
Yeah, agree about the facial animations, specifically on speech, which is why the internal monologue works better with it cause she doesn't actively talk. But not learning anything about the blue voice doesn't seem that weird to me given it seems like there's a lot more to this game yet - Jon may say he thinks he's 20% through it, but he's only just unlocked the upgrade system so kind of thinking he's massively underestimating the size of the game.

@@KOT_AMV That's probably pretty accurate then, yeah. It does look like a very expansive game, kind of hope it opens up a bit more going forward - it's looked a little linear so far to be honest. That's not necessarily a bad thing, linear isn't automatically bad by any rate (look at Batman Arkham Asylum as a perfect example of 'linear' being done exceptionally well), just when they have this whole "building shifts around and changes layout" groundwork being a little more open and letting you get lost more easily seems like it'd be a given.
@@tpbloomfield Idk, not telling the player about a thing when the character you're playing as knows about it seems kinda... weird. I mean I get that she doesn't know everything about it but she could tell us SOMETHING.

Jon this game is actually a metroidvania. their are a bunch of secret areas and bosses. if you use your powers creatively you can break into areas much earlier than intended.

So just finished watching Jesse Cox finish this, and now Jon is starting one. I already likes he’s using the melee attack more often. From just watching Jesse, you’d never know the melee does a blast.

I hope you continue this! The storytelling is exceptional. You are not remotely 20% of the way through the game though. I'm not exactly sure how long my first playthrough took since Epic doesn't have a playtime counter yet, but I think it was around 25 hours.

Regarding your first complaint: turns out they FOUND this building and it's some kind of dimensional wibbly that keeps most people from noticing it unless they already know it exists, so it's the perfect hiding place for SCPs. Yes, it's in a public place, but still.

So basically, this is an SCP AU fanfiction/copyfic... and its glorious for that.
Also, I love how the puppet toon skit thing, it isn't angled to be center screen on the tv, since its at an angle... its centered on YOUR monitor. Clever details game. The fact they remind me of SCP-619's diorama helps to.

This game is an absolute masterpiece. The characters are great, the story is top-notch, the powers are varied, the lore is fan-flipping-tastic, and the DLCs are okay. Sure the combat can get a bit boring once you get close to max-level and find out what weapons you like, and the second DLC scared me so hard I had to quit...but overall, Control is a masterpiece.

Not jump scares, it's all about creepy atmosphere and a whole lot of weirdness.

SCP may be going down hill but it’s not old yet is it?
I hardly think it's going downhill, though the most popular SCPs are almost a decade old. Plus, the current focus is less on the creepy elements and more on just the weird elements of the universe.
The writing is better now, but nearly everything has been done so people are getting bored.
I mean they're still putting out content so you know.
SCP-173, the first one, came out 12 years ago. There's over 4000 SCPs now, and an additional huge lore of tales of at least as many. Do they still make creepy ones? Absolutely! Try 4666 or 4750 or 4511.
The SCP wiki has gotten really broad and interesting, almost it's own genere, but because different people like different things and it's all in universe there's some things you will like and some you won't at this point.
When it was narrower and new it was easier to only like it, but no matter what you like there's stil more of it than there used to be. Just as long as you can be chill about the parts you don't like and just ignore them.

This looks like one of the end-of-the-world scenarios on SCP. The vaults, the screwed up people and objects etc. The bureau would obviously not place scips inside a living house, so this must either be that one of the sites got taken over by some reality restructuring entities, or the whole world is fubar and it's up to you and a few others to solve the whole crisis. Kinda reminds me of one of the strong memetic scips that is about to take over the universe..
