3 Reasons CHANCE THE RAPPER Has Fallen Off! Stunted Growth Music

- From 2013 through 2018 and even a spurt in 2019 when he released his album “The Big Day” Chance The Rapper was seen as a viable artist to one day take a seat on the thrown of hip hop. In 2017 this was his peak in popularity as he was THE name to talk about after winning 3 Grammys. I remember Joe Budden around this time saying that Chance the Rapper will surpass Drake as the face of hip hop. He could sing, he could rap, he had a gospel soul vibe to him and what stood out the most was he seemed he loved music to its core and was old school in the way he approached the quality of his music. But in 2022, although he’s in no way failing, he’s not the artist I’d say many expected him to be. For Chance the Rapper, some of the reasons he hasn’t quite met expectations were in his control, and took him from expected great to just another rapper. A good one, not a great for these reasons. 3 Reasons CHANCE THE RAPPER Has Fallen Off! Stunted Growth Music

Do you think it's too soon to say Chance The rapper fell off?
uhhh hes garbage asf
#ooooohIloveMyWife
Yes. I’m Southside Chicago. I appreciate his art and music and work for the community in Chicago; but his music kinda got boring lately just like Lupe, respectively
If his next album is as bad as the last it’s a wrap
Wayyyyyyy too early
@StuntedGrowthMusic WRONG! He never fell off & is in a different place in his life. He did right by staying independent. Artist have the right to slow down & change it up. Smh on this video
You found a goldmine with this series. It’s a million rappers, actors, UA-camrs, and athletes that you can make these videos about.. salute
Facts.
Word I agree. Very well thought out. Very informative. Very unique. Plus the edits and visuals is top tier
Oh please this guy said nothing relevant. Almost every take this dude had was wrong
@@vice2versa but was I wrong? No. It’s a great series, if he can get all the facts straight. The channel would be even bigger.. some big UA-camrs research for months fact checking. That’s important
I cant stop watching it
Chance's freestyle at the beginning sounds like it was influenced by Eminem back in his Slim Shady, "Hi, my name is" days.
I was thinking the same thing
I was thinking that also
Without a shadow of a doubt
Definitely or 8 Mile
As soon as it started,Slim shady for sure
Been waiting for this one ✊🏾
Request: The Cool Kids
Good one
Chance went from the chill rapper that made sonically pleasing music, to the overly sensitive, fake nice, overrated rapper in the blink of an eye. The Big Day was terrible lol
The Big Day my God🥴
Yall really thought the album was bad what made you not like it yea it was a mainstream album but I didn't think it was bad I thought people just overreacted and pushed a bad narrative on the album
I didn’t get a chance to finish the album, but Sun Come Down was a JAM!
@@onlyone23km yea good song
I think a lot of ppl can’t relate to the big day! He made an album about the love for his wife and God. If you’re not in a place in your life where u can relate doesn’t mean the album was bad at all
How people feel about him now is how I felt about him back in the day
I'm from Chicago and the streets out here wasn't fuckin with Chance like that
I only knew one black person who liked chance an that was my ex even with her it was just a few songs
I knew a black dude who was raised in the Chi who met him!
@@ralphwiggum1982same bro my ex who is mixed is the only somewhat black person I have known to like Chance music and just one or two songs.
Missed Stunts.
1. Chance becoming sober-ish:
A lot of Chance's fans and fanbase fell in love with him because of his personal tales of addiction with acid on 10 Day and Acid Rap. When he became clean, it left a sour taste in his fans' mouths because they felt more connected to him through the drugs.
2. The Big Day oversaturation:
Big Day was a flop, in my personal opinion, not because of the subject matter, but because it had too many tracks. The album was 22 or 24 songs in total. When have you ever known a project with that many songs to be perfect or close to perfect. The album wasn't bad it was just oversaturated. If the album was like 10 - 15 tracks it would've been received better, because there's heat on there.
3. The Chance / Pat the Manager fall out:
This ties in with The Big Day. Pat told Chance that he should use less tracks and try different records and just help give better direction, which lead to a lot of fighting between the both of them. When the album came out and flopped, Pat was fired for being a "Debbie downer" and Chance ended up hiring Taylor and their father to manage them. Pat ended up releasing his side of the story which showed Chance in a negative light and it left a sour taste in the mouths of his fans because they felt like Chance should've listened. After that he's been building his light back up, which he's in a good space now with the music he's releasing.
You absolutely hit it on the nose with him being "too clean". Keep in mind from 2010 - 2015, I call that period of time the Chicago Renaissance (I'm from the area). Where it was drill music vs backpack/open mic music. This is where on one side you had Chief Keef, Lil Durk, King Louie, Spenzo, Katie Got Bandz, etc. all the big names that was being looked at and pursued by the major labels. Then on the other side you had Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Saba, Noname, Mick Jenkins, Alex Wiley, etc. all these different names that represented the underground. They were competing for exposure between the drill and the backpack. But ultimate the people from the hood have a louder voice on what's cool. The suburban kids (myself included at the time), didn't make up a major majority loud enough for the industry to look at the open mic circuit. So when I was saying Chance, Saba, Mick... The hood was saying Keef, Durk, Reese, and the radio was supporting the hood. Chance didn't get big big until he the first song with together with Justin Bieber.
agreed. i feel like big day was overhated, it was still my least favorite of his projects at the time but i didnt think it was trash, just ok. i think its weird that we cant have clean cut and hood rappers pushed to the forefront equally at the same time these days, its seems the only clean cut ones are the ones mainstream pop includes which is nasically just drake and white rappers 😅 even big sean isnt as acknowledged as he could be
@Jeffrey Juliano people can get addicted to ANYTHING. If not physically, psychologically.
@Jeffrey Juliano you’re delusional if you believe that.
@Jeffrey Juliano bro I eat eighths and quarters of shrooms on the regular and used to do acid. People can get addicted maybe not you or me but it really does happen
I think he was "IMITATING Eminem" in that opening freestyle video.
Was sounding just like him...hi my name is..
Damn, I just seen y'all comments. I agree.
I heard EM too.
🤣🤣
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
Personally for me, I would say that the 3 stunts to his career were:
1) Finding God - A lot of life events occurred between Acid Rap and Colouring Book that lead Chance on a different (and healthier) path in life. For some reason, though, this resulted in there being a significant dip in the quality of music given on shown throughout Colouring Book compared to Acid Rap even though the former was a huge commercial success. I think said success had a negative effect of Chance believing what he was putting out was quality and no matter how successful you become as an artist the number one thing that you should always fall back on is quality music.
2) Meeting Kanye West - This may be a controversial one but it seems that Chance's relationship with Kanye was a one-way street that favoured Kanye musically. A lot of the better parts of The Life of Pablo for example involved considerable creative input from Chance. If you look into it, Kanye has a history of using newer artists to further his own creative endeavours (e.g. T-Pain, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, etc.) and Chance was up next. Nothing exemplifies this more for me than the fact that Kanye took 'Ultralight Beam' off of Colouring Book and replaced it with the vastly inferior 'All We Got'.
3) Surrounding himself with Yes Men - Long story short Chance (allegedly) didn't listen to his former manager which lead him to making The Big Day and other poor career choices www.vulture.com/2020/12/chance-the-rapper-manager-lawsuit-the-big-day.html
Wow well said
"I met Kanye West, I'm never going to fail." - CTR (Ultralight Beam)
This turned around and bit him in the ass lmao.
I strongly agree with 1 & 3, but 2 I disagree. Working with Kanye was a great opportunity for him, not only to get exposed to a wider audience but also to learn from Kanye, someone more experienced and with a great artistic process. It was up to him (Chance) to absorb as much experience and knowledge as possible from Kanye then just being there (absorb as much as you offer)
@@arseeoliveira6934 I disagree. Chance was already on the trajectory towards superstardom and had already had the gospel-influenced sound that Kanye would eventually adopt. Again, a lot of signs point to Chance helping Kanye more than Kanye helping Chance.
@@whodatboi2567 “eventually adopt” like Jesus walks didn’t exist. Like bring me down, never let me down, I’ll fly away and countless church themes throughout his music. Bruh it’s literally a FACT that Chance got bigger AFTER being on pablo smh
‘Chance the Rapper’ has always been a bit Bizarre to me and I’m not quite sure what the Appeal was in the first place …
He wasn’t rapping so much about gang violence and drugs after a while.
Chance the Rapper is the rapper you like but never really listened to their 🎶 or followed their career. The perfect example of the idea of an artist being great but the actual artist being underwhelming or forgettable.
Nah his core fans came from Donald glover royalty mixtape...that's where his buzz started that made people go back listen to 10day then acid rap dropped that album made him an artist to most definitely watch...sonically musically he fell off after that...he fell for fame he tried to be the goody two shoes of rap but it the music didn't stand up
Never liked chance but respected his hussle
Clean image is always terrible. There’s no such thing as any person being clean. I always thought that was hypocritical. Thank god for the internet
That’s what Will Smith was back then
@@andresciahooten9598 yet his wife was in love with someone who's been dead some 1996🤦
Clean image just means your not a drugs and bitches ir shock type rapper. Thats it
I couldn't disagree more with stunt #1. Too many major labels have stunted the growth of too many artists.
And mainstream media
Facts. This guy is bugging in a major way.
@@LegendaryTony. Glad im not the only one, almost every point this dude made was garbage. Chance was performing for Obamas daughters on TV and appeared in commercials with no major lable, he basically had the buzz of a major label artists and this youtuber is acting like chance stayed underground... what??? This guy really doesn't know what the hell hes talking about.
Also his comment about no problems was completely trash and seems like hes mistaking his personal opinions as facts when they are far from that. Of all the chance fell off vids, this seems to be the worst one.
I think these days we over exaggerate being Approved by the Hood because many artists were Hood Approved and fell off. It made sense in the past because what we called Hood Approved back then really meant does the Artist have Soul, but we let the industry takeover our Art And they fooled us into looking for edginess and struggle over soul. The result from that is we now have a bunch of artists with zero musical talent but are real life thugs or prostitutes.
Talking about if someone fell off is a little irrelevant these days because the Music Market, now is more about having a loyal fan base that supports your music. The Major Music industry is trying to hide this, but the sales are proving it every time. Last year Major label artists only made-up 10 percent of album sales and indie plus artists of the past made up the rest.
Real music fans turn to Bandcamp to find good music these days and not Terrestrial Radio plus TV anymore.
Smoke Break is my favorite song especially that beat!!!!!
That opening verse was very “late-‘90s Slim Shady.”
That was literally the first impression i had of chance when i first heard him on as a feature of that singer i forgot the name but it was the song with justin beiber rapping. Chance sounded very slim shady esque which peaked my interests. He also had that flow on jackson bronsons song baby blue.
Chance making his debut album centered around his marriage was such a bold move, why he thought the casual hip hop fan would want to listen to him repeatedly praise his wife for over an hour is something I still don't understand to this day. Supposedly, around the time Chance was making his album, his now wife was about to leave him. I guess “The Big Day” album was used as a last resort to save his marriage.
You really didn’t listen to the album did you? Lol internet narratives take over ppl minds I swear
@@blackjesus4525 nah that shit was asscheeks …. Sorry buddy
Acid rap is great, nothing else really touched that musical masterpiece
The Coloring Book came damned close.
@@onlyone23km Listen to Coloring Book while thinking about everything that was wrong with The Big Day. You can see how on that project he was already down a path for the music that would come later. Acid Rap had a lot of emotional depth to it. Very honest in analyzing himself and his life decisions. Which made it so great but with Coloring Book you could already see the lazy lyricism and obnoxious themes of constantly rapping about God and his wife/baby mama creeping in.
Those things aren't inherently bad but all of his lyrics were very surface level and at times outright corny. Just go and read the lyrics to Coloring Book and it's clear as day he was not putting nearly as much effort in writing them compared to Acid Rap. I don't think it's a bad album but to this day I still don't understand the hype surrounding it. It was the beginning of his fall off in my opinion.
@@ALoveSupreme65 my love for Chance actually started with Coloring Book. That said, I do feel bad for Chance that his The Big Day album was all for nothing, now that after 5 years of marriage he and his ex are separated.
Acid Rap is pretty good! I think the problem with Chance is that content of his music just became a bit unrelatable? Acid Rap talked about not struggles with street life (though there is nothing wrong with that at all) but more interpersonal issues of misusing drugs, family, passionate love, etc. These all felt like themes that not only white general audiences could enjoy but black folk too. The Big day (and Coloring Book too to an extent) is just devoid of a lot of that and when it does comes up it's just kinda corny.
"white general audiences" 🤮 says who? White people always swear everything is for them. Lost me there
@@AmandaabnamA I’m a black person and I’m saying that the themes from the music were relatable to white people too. Not all of them and not every single song just most of them. Not saying they had some single handed ownership of the music. Chance was mostly rejected when black people started calling him corny. I’m not denying that, just saying how the fan base developed.
Dont confuse your personal opinions as fact when it comes to overall perception. Chance was by far at his biggest when Coloring book was out. It was widely praised, dude was on SNL, he was in commercials and performed for Obamas daughters on tv. Chance fell off when the big day dropped which turned him into a meme.
He painted himself as the indie rapper who cared about music quality only for him to drop an album that seemed like it was thrown together in 2 weeks
I don't think him staying independent hurt him so much, I mean look what Quavo is going through with his label. OG's now are always preaching for artist to stay independent. IMO Chance just doesn't make great music. He had his core fan base in the beginning, but he changed his style up and people just aren't rocking with it.
Lol quavo not going thru nothing him and takeoff signed a new deal are u talking about that cap offset pulling 😂 🤣 you a goofy no bap
@@lewbands nah....bro was right...takeoffs death is about to increase sells on the album they did
@@marcus3490 was Takeoffs death really 8 months ago wth??? Why is time flying so fast??? It felt like it was only a few months ago.
"the big day was met with mixed reviews" - hahahahaha, you're sooo gentle. That shit was met with universal slander lol
I never thought Chance would surpass Drake. Even after the Pusha T debacle.
Chance a dope artist but I honestly never got the hype surrounding him. He just wasn’t my cup of tea.
First off Acid Rap is one of the most underrated project in this era…i think chance had a chance but he just never came with those mainstream bops he’s one of the most non commercial commercial rappers…I thought chance would be bigger but you can’t really knock him cause he doing it his way 🤷🏾♂️
As you mentioned before with Joey Badass, JC: the problem with going major is that you don’t own your own content which means you can’t really take control of your own creative direction. And after what Lou Pearlman did to numerous boy bands and what Gerry Heller did to N.W.A., I don’t blame Chance for his decision to stay independent. Especially when Macklemore and Ryan Lewis made it the same way along with Wiz Khalifa.
Chance was on his way to being an A list celebrity so idk what the hell this guy is talking about. During the coloring book era, chance was in commercials, he was on SNL and performed infront of Obamas daughters on TV without a major deal so what is this guy talking about????
@@vice2versa I’m talking about not signing with major labels and operating his own business.
Always screamed "industry plant" to me.
Never gave him a chance.

Chance music is a victim of the era that music has entered.
This is the most accurate take
His best work was acid rap. After that it wasn’t the same anymore
Tbh I don't think chance fell off he's been putting out singles recently I can't wait for his next album
The man's music is trash bro
The only person I’ve ever heard praise Chance the Rapper is my uncle who will co-sign any overtly religious rapper. Mediocrity is why he fell off.
That’s great that you have did Chance The Rapper. But now can you please do Vic Mensa
Yeah, thats a good 1
I already can name 2 from that. The xxxtentacion diss after he died and 93punx not taking off with his fandom really hurt him.
I didn’t know about him until ultralight beam tbh. Ngl I liked a few of his songs from the big day but that was from when was in HS and I’ve never fully heard the album yet. Might have to give it a listen to make an opinion.
Why does that freestyle in the beginning sound just like Eminem
With Chance i think the game just changed. It went more street, guys like Lil baby, gunna, youngboy, lil durk, were all ascending
I met chance right before he blew up fr n started rockin the 3 hat he still fairly relevant today
I never thought that chance would end up on Stunted growth but here we are
This guys channel is kinda dumb tbh. Every point he made was either wrong or outright garbage.
Didn't like his voice from day 1, and thought the bars were just ok. Also though he was am industry plant lol
I used to think Chance was signed to a label given how big he was at one point. Thats proves this youtube doesnt know what hes talking about. Chance had the buzz of a mainstream artist so what is this youtuber smoking???? All his points made no sense.
I was digging Acid Rap when I first heard it, felt inspirational. I never got into his mainstream songs, I didn't like when he sang too much. Not a fan of the gospel influence either. But the tracks he put out in 2022 so far have been high quality and makes me respect his pen
That first video of lucki and chance rapping is crazy 💀 to think they both would blow up
"Black People Don't Bump Chance In The Whip"
Why you had to post that pic of his wife at the end lol
😂😂😂😂
FINALLY THANK YOU BRO

Stunted Growth No. 4 “Doing the Voice”!!! No real emcee would ever coach on that show. That’s only for R&B and Country Artists.
Acid Rap changed the way I listen to music. I wish he made music like that again Still one of the best mixtapes ever
Great video u got to do a kurupt from dogg pound ( death row) he most definitely got a classic
I actually thought Coloring Book was an album when it first came out lol
Can you do one on Groove Theory??? Amel Larrieux should’ve been bigger than she is
I think it's good to pace yourself in this industry, you never know where you'll step... He got his name out there and that's everything. Fun Fact: he was in Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is you" celebrity video..

I agree with alot of the stuff you said but you got some stuff wrong..the big day peaked at number 2 not 60 💀
I hope you dont didnt agree with his chance staying independent point. That was an incredibly stupid point and proved that this youtuber doesnt know what hes talking about. The issue with labels is that you dont own your work and the labels basically control what you do. They often times stunt and artists growth. Chance was basically on the path to superstardom in 2017 with him in commercials, on SNL, performing for Obamas daughters, He didnt need a major label deal he made more money without one because he already obtained the buzz of a major label artist. His comment about no problem was also dumb but thats just his personal opinion.
Will there be a Wale stunted growth?
I personally feel his association to Kanye was also a stunt that held him back
How so? I feel that that actually pushed him forward
@@jayc5756 It was sort of a one sided relationship. What did chance gain musically from Kanye. The only thing chance benefited from was the name association. During TLOP era chance was inspiration for a couple of those sounds and he was a creative writer
@@javontaepinder9945 Yeah, thats how he benefited. But I hear ya

🤣
Acid Rap came out at a time where Hip Hop still praised creativity, it was 2013 and people Hip Hop was still pushing the Mac Miller, TDE, Odd Future, Joey Bada$$ was being heard for the first time. There was diversity. Now it doesn’t feel like there’s whole lot of diversity after the sound cloud wave died
Golden era
@@mikeTDE facts. My favorite era for Hip Hop. I understand how great the 90’s is, but I was a kid. I was outside for the 2010’s. Such a great time that don’t get its praised.
Personally the worst era of hip hop even to this day.
@@maroon9273 lol ok do you have an actual opinion to back this or you just one of those people hate just to hate because it’s not the era that you grew up on? Because I have an actual opinion to back up my statement
@@jwood8769 to be honest, it is the least accomplish and the most career stunts than any other era (ie joey badass). You can thank mainstream media, the industry, the weirdo stans, industry plants, culture vultures and the new rap fans having a say in hip hop, giving them more power and a biggee voice. Majority of the rappers then and now are a plants who do not know or care for the culture of hip hop. Plus, skill and artistry wise, majority of those artists are garbage, not special, all hype and ain't saying nothing at all. All there doing is producing more trash to the airways.
I'll put Sunday Candy up against any song. Such a wonderful song.
That “congrats” at the end is TOO petty 🤣
Chance is a great love performer. Got to see him do a lot of 10 day and acid rap. Better in person
Do not compare no fvckin d.rose to chance, chance could never
this channel needs more exposer.
I'm glad you brought up Coloring Book's lack of lyricism. That's what struck me as odd when people were going crazy over that project. It came off extremely lazy to me, especially when you compare that project to Acid Rap. Don't get me wrong- Chance was never as lyrical as a Kendrick or Common but his songs had depth to them even with his spastic style of rapping. I felt people just heard references to God backed by gospel samples and gave it the stamp of approval. In the opening track he has a string of lines that go:
"I might make some Earl Tea
I got baptized like real early
I might give Satan a swirlie"
And this album won a fucking Grammy. I hope his divorce brings back the raw honesty and thoughtful Chance. Not this perfect Christlike image that he seemed consumed with trying to portray to the world. Almost like he was trying to convince himself (and everyone else) that he had life figured out and everything was perfect.
It's better to STAY INDEPENDENT because when your on a major label they take almost ALL OF YOUR MONEY chance is a smart guy
Agreed plus chance had the buxx of a major label artist so why would he anyways. This youtuber is not a very smart dude. Almost every point he made was stupid
I was never high on Chance
Chance is very talented It Jst felt like he wasn’t gon last at that superstardom roll for too long
The issue with Chance is that he became incredibly religious. The type that treat it like their & everyon else's biggest personality trait 💀. Much of the psychedelic insights that made his lyricism so dope was completely gone shortly after coloring book and his work after felt like it was trying really hard to be a rebuttal to it... The big day was the disastrous culmination of this attempt to go mainstream. I have no idea what he was thinking or who lied to him but it's sad.
I really loved his first two albums but after that just not feeling it all. Just my personal taste but I can't remember another rapper that dropped off so much to me
How can somebody fall off when they got 3 Grammys
Dope!!!!🔥💯
Chance acid rap miss this guy
Been following chance since 2013, never thought he fell off. I still don’t understand why people thought the big dance was controversial
I like the idea of Chance the Rapper...I just don't like Chance the Rapper...if that makes sense

He was ALL HYPE! Always been ass to me
Independent’s always been used very loosely when referring to Chance. Too much money and powerful connections to be considered “independent “.
Not sounding like Eminem on first clip. I love Acid Rap till this day
That written at the beginning was horrible lol
Lol
No Problems is the only Chance song I can name. I listened to Acid Rap when it came out because of the hype surrounding it. It wasn't for me and I never understood his hype.
So disrespectful to compare chance to D Rose

I thought he was boots to begin with
😂😂😂😂 me too. His music was never appealing to me
Damn, Chance fell off after the 2010s. he should have stay independent and just a got distrubution deal and put more rappers on that rap that acid rap.
Since the beginning, I always told people he was a bust. And not many believed me. And now, looking at his work, I was right. He’s been an overhyped train since he came out. I never understood it.
Dude only had 1 bad recieved album and that was the big day albu.. Back when he made coloring book, he was on top of the world.
I never really understood the hype behind chance if I'm being honest I never liked him. His music is not for me
I'd love to see one on Janelle Monae and Party Next Door
Janelle Monae?
Janelle Monae never fell off or got stunted. She is doing stuff like acting and is still looked at today as a black icon in music.
Let me guess before I watch it:
Stunt 1 - Met his Future Wife
Stunt 2 - Got Married to her
Stunt 3 - The Big Day Album
That honestly should have been the only points in this video but this youtuber decided to go left with some seriously dumb points that made no sense. I cant take this youtuber seriously anymore after this video.
Chance never 'went to greater heights' bc he DIDN'T sell his soul (a toddler knows that)
