- A briefing on a newly discovered species, humans, turns sinister for a group of veteran alien warriors. Prior combat experiences are rendered obsolete as they learn of this enemy's lethal efficiency and resilience. The warriors are warned not to underestimate this physically unimpressive species. However, during a catastrophic battle, the aliens discover the shocking truth: the humans are far more formidable than initially described, and their true capabilities have been gravely miscalculated.

What are you doing right now while listening to this story? Would love to know!
😮😅
I was concentrating on the story.

Knitting
Literally "are we the baddies".
Wonderful narration. You drew me in with your voice :)
Wow, thank you!
@@StarboundHFY Too quick now of days are people ready to use text-to-speech. It was a surprise and pleasure.
@@rameseXII4153Yes, I've blocked countless A.I read HFY channels, They're unbearable.
This is a refreshing change of pace, I'm subbing.
I have to say this is definitely one of the best HFY stories I have ever heard. Well done you!
Wow, thank you!
One of the better HFY stories I've heard. Well done, author!
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.
Reminds me of another story where they say that no other species could generate adrenaline and had been classified as a combat drug, so when they met humans and found out they generated it in their bodies.
Couple that with our irrational mix of crazy and inventive and you have a berserker who doesn't worry if it is impossible... he does it anyway and then flips it off.
@@mikkelnpetersenwhere??
the alien strike force landed at john wick backyard BIG MISTAKE 😂
Ive always thought it would be cool to do voice over work. This was a good story, thank you.
Oh this was really good. I liked the view from the other side. From the all powerful highly advanced never post yet warriors facing off against simple and crude, but unyielding in defiance. And to learn of mercy that way was cool. Very different from many of the HFY stories. I like that the end was mostly sad... but with a seed of hope in it. A chance to grow.
this story is a little like robotech. the zentari just normal sized in this story, but feelings and emotions were having an effect on them. if you liked this story watch robotech or better the books.
Great story, love the human voice over.
The audio mistakes indicate it wasn't a human
I hope they continue this story with part two.

For the longest time, I thought this was a perspective of a mosquito vs humans.
A top story. I really liked it... I appreciate stories with a philosophical feel.
Just a comment on the narration though. I'm pretty sure it was done by a text to speech translator that still needs some tweeks. It put pauses that I presume were supposed to be dramatic, in the wrong places and were too long, and, overall was too slow. I found it much more listenable by setting the playback speed on the UA-cam player to 1.25. This was a bit fast, maybe 1.2 would have been better, but it definitely improved the listenability, and improved the feel of the narration which otherwise tended to drag a bit.
Overall score 7.5/10
It was actually a human narrator, i'll give him your feedback though!
@@StarboundHFY - He has a good voice. My only complaint was the slow speed of the read...
👏👏👏👏
I give this four claps
Great story.
Heard it before , it's called USA invades Vietnam
It's cheesy but still good. Imagine Duke Nukem wearing Medic and doctors gown
That was a good one. 👍
Earth go hard! ~L.D.
I swear, i more and more stories about aliens learning they shouldnt piss of humans keeps popping up.
These aliens forget we have metahumas on our planet. One in particular from the lost planet called Krypton....his name Ka-el...otherwise known as ....Superman.
Was this written by an AI? The random fades to black and multiple endings (both the battlefield wake-up and the field hospital wake-up continue from the same earlier scene, not from one another) make me feel like it is.
Is there a written transcript of this somewhere? I prefer reading to listening
we put all the full written stories on our patreon :) www.patreon.com/StarboundHFY
With the sudden explosion of these I keep thinking they're all AI-written because of an identical theme of _humans the baddest, toughest, etc._
Are you familiar with the r/HFY subreddit?
HFY subreddit has more variety. And this stoey at least has very strong AI vibes.
This is what happens when you fail to conduct orbital bombardment before invading a world that maxxed out defense army strength.
One part of me is living in the future, another part is watching silent reruns in tv. And still another part is playing diablo4😅.
👍
Too cheezy.
"Are we... Are we the baddies?"
Anyone read “Pandora Planet?” The Kzin series is epic.
Scream and leap? Or something like that. Love Known Space stuff and especially the short stories.
Ask yourself why humans need so many rules......

Dang! I wish I was a human. I'm just a tired old man. While saying much of anything about humans in general is BS there have been some outstanding humans who could and did do some remarkable things.
Learn the difference between ideal and idea.
glad you can speed up the slow speech o t h e r wi ze ......
aint that just the vietnam war?
So what I'm getting at here is they kind of suck?
Nice twist. But got repetitive. Maybe a 15 minute story intead of 27.
If we have to pause killing each other you're fucked
Gods - I hate roboreaders....... Drawn out and pnderous - could have been done in half the time!
what do you mean roboreaders? our voice over is human.. but any feedback is welcome
@@StarboundHFYI'm sure I heard some misprocounciations in there... which grated quite badly. On the other hand - a lot of people use 'american' - which isn't English.
Oh god a pronunciation elitist. There are over 100 different forms of English. Even England has dozens of forms. No one is gonna pronounce every word the same way you do.
If you feel as though the narration is too slow, try clicking settings cog and set the video speed to 1.25x
Can't produce belies. First sentence was flubbed.
Is this ai?
Damnit. I was hoping for a good scifi story. This is a woke fantasy.
I gave electricity to Maiwand. They looted it all on their own right after we left.
How is this woke?
I really don't get it.
Nope
AI is terrible.
Horrible read. I’m out. How difficult can it be?
Lol, was this story written by a snowflake? All that "feelings" in war, what kind of war is that? Are they gonna kiss or hug each other to death? 🤣🤣🤣
"Snowflake"? People far more ancient and accomplished than you have written far deeper things than this story on the same topic. Only a juvenile with absolutely no understanding of warfare would make fun of something of this nature. You show with your own words that you do not understand the true essence of warfare.
People who fight wars (at least actual ones you're basing your warped ideas on) are human beings, not robots. Maybe it'd do you well to read the poetry of soldiers who fought in WW1 and 2.
This 70 yr old veteran can only quote a better man. "War is sweet to those who have no experience of it,
but the experienced man trembles exceedingly at heart on its approach." (Pindar, 518 BC - 438 BC)
@@death_parademeh it’s a quite idealized version of war like seriously do you really believe humans would waste medical resources on some alien that has come to destroy and conquer 😂
@@outrider425Why not? We do it all the time with PoWs even in modern wars. Plus there are all ways conscientious dissenters and other humanitarian organizations like the Red Cross, doctors without borders and other non-combatant groups that go into war zones and treat both sides of the conflict and civilians, its not that far fetched an idea they would do it for an alien either. That's not even taking into account the self interest that most of the world's governments and militaries would show in keeping a living breathing alien alive. First the potential tactical intelligence benefit of having an enemy alien soldier alive to get the details of their culture, their motivations, their form of government, and their biological needs to figure out logistics just to name a few. Second the interest of having an alien that can work as a scientific asset in reverse engineering technology, possibilities of new elements or manufacturing techniques etc. Its way more unrealistic that the military of any government wouldn't be throwing every resource they can, not to mention a few medical supplies, to keep those information goldmines alive for as long as possible. As the saying goes:
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War
The most unrealistic part was that the alien didn't wake up in a cell in some underground complex with a dozen generals and scientists around them.
The author couldn't decide on the ending, so he wrote two?
And forgot to tell the reader to not read both.
Great story.
