I enjoy making the little hype montages and I was always inspired by youtubers when I first started watching gaming videos that made montages and I think this is my way of recognizing them
People saying in the comments that MegD is skilled and good but just boring to watch don't take the time to think "huh, maybe MegD doesn't care if hes entertaining when playing in a professional tournament; maybe he's just out to win it or get good placement" Like guys, if the playstyle he uses is racking up wins then I'm sure he's gonna keep using it instead of caring about being interesting or not
Yeah but that doesn't mean that his playstyle and him as a player isn't deserving of hate and scrutiny. If you're style of gameplay is to not play the game to the point of making some of the most experienced players in the game stop playing against youm you cannot expect an absolute ounce of excitement. In general the video seemed to act like most of his haters said he didn't have results. Few people thought that, it's more they just think he's terrible to watch, showcases the problems with the game, and entire gameplan is to not play the game until the other person does and messes up because of it.
Do you guys not understand how funding for tournaments work? Yes, he’s playing to win, but at the same time, if isn’t entertaining the people watching it, that will lead to LESS viewership which leads to LESS sponsorships, which ultimately leads to less money and the game’s esports scenes dying out. That’s why you often see tactics like these try to get snubbed out. A great example was the guy in Jeopardy a while back who strategically played in a way that got him wins but made the game less fun for the viewers and participants, and was considered a blight on the series.
@@fire5258 yeah but at the same time, I'm not sure he really cares what the viewers think. His mindset isn't to play for others, it's to play for himself.

Thank you!!! I appreciate you letting me know. Brawlhalla is kind of one side e-sports and another side party game. So sometimes people only see one side.
a lot of people in video games take playstyles personally. playstyles can be annoying but all of it literally is a case of "don't hate the player, hate the game"
Not a Brawlhalla player, but from what I've gathered from this video, it seems like MegD is basically the Sonix of Smash Ultimate, the Mew2King/Hungrybox of Melee, etc. Passive play is actually very hard and mentally draining in most fighting games. You don't have to enjoy watching it, but at least appreciate it for what it takes to both play this way and make it work.
s a huge fan of both music and grilled cheese sandwiches, I have to say that the Grilled Cheese Obama Sandwich song is easily one of my favorite songs of all time. From the first time I heard it, I knew that it was something special that I would want to listen to again and again. The opening guitar chords immediately drew me in, and I found myself tapping my feet along with the beat as the lyrics began. The playful and lighthearted tone of the song instantly put a smile on my face, and I couldn't help but sing along to the catchy chorus. But what really impressed me about this song was the clever way that it paid tribute to one of America's most beloved former presidents. The lyrics were full of witty references to Barack Obama's love of grilled cheese sandwiches, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the clever wordplay. As I listened to the song, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the simple pleasures of childhood. The idea of a perfectly toasted grilled cheese sandwich evoked memories of lazy afternoons spent with friends, enjoying a snack and talking about our favorite things. But even as I reveled in this sense of nostalgia, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope for the future. Barack Obama was a president who inspired millions of people with his vision of a more inclusive and equitable America, and the Grilled Cheese Obama Sandwich song captured that spirit of hope and optimism perfectly.
I never understood why people cry so much about passive play styles in fighting games. Variety in play styles is what makes fighting games interesting.
It Is Just BH tbh In Other games usually players have a certain set of characters Who are divided in classes BH Is really Just play however you want with whatever you want. It Is a good thing? Yes, in that way everyone can adapt to the Legend they like more It's not the best thing when you have 8 minutes for One single match where you can wait for the timeout doing nothing Other than dodging and/or waiting for punishes (with also being able to do every Other thing every Other Legend can do). I also don't think adopting the same playstyle would be beneficial to the game, unless players suddenly start to enjoy it
its most likely the helpnesses someone feels when they believe they are putting their all into something and not getting the disred outcome immediately. Fighting games are p good at giving the match results away very fast and people like to know if they are better or not immediately (some do mainly the impatient ones) SO when they are not immediately guaranteed the win they get upset and resign
MegD is good to watch his playstyle if different then any other players, even though he was the most passive in the brawl scene further on in his career he improved its just he knows he can win tournaments he makes too many mistakes which throws him off but other then that MegD is a really good player and I hope he wins a tournament soon
Literally two decades on youtube and I've scarcely come across a Brawlhalla recomm. I played the game once today. 15 minutes in the training mode before uninstalling. And suddenly, youtube knew.
One of my friends is a high ranking brawl player, and one of his favorite screenshots hes gotten in the last month is MegD calling him a coward or something for playing more passive than he did after he took a game off him lol.
omg Vondakay just stop, this is like a dream come true to me I always wanted a good "librarian" that could keep the track of every pro and tell about them in a professional manner like you do right now in the brawl community, ur literal godsend
Respects to him for being incredibly talented and patient under focus and all that. But I will never enjoy watching a megD match and if I ever fight anyone playing like that, I will dc because I don't play brawlhalla for a 6-7 minute battle of patience
God made you a hater for a reason 🫡 he’s doing pretty good right now. I’d say his main highlight was his spring run and then performing highly at BCX. He’s a bit more aggressive now and funny enough he teams with Raydish a well known passive player at the top lev as well.
It's very apparent on Sword too when you can really see me swap around. He doesn't dash much either tbh. It's so hard to learn from him because it's super super fundamental
Yep that why I never trust twitch chat. Same thing happened back in overwatch esports. We called it plat chat ( plat meaning platinum which was the most basic you can get in ranked and most of the player based was in)and they just spaming that the team didn't know what their doing till they do a big brain play that Noone saw coming...
Platinum was sadly not the most basic rank for some of us :( I was gold... and played mainly Ana. I loved Overwatch! but, it never seemed like anyone else did.
Im just saying, he's playing how all games are supposed to be played, playing perfectly and waiting for mistakes, the riskier you play, the more mistakes you make. Saying his playstyle is boring is like saying a bronce game in league, is more exciting than pro play.
@@kaishadows919 it actually makes sense, I'm using an example. not a comparison, i'm saying, the correct way to games, sports, is to play with no errors and taking advantage of the enemies errors, that's why in league, pro play is slower, because they play really safe not to make mistakes, same goes for soccer, as game level has increased, almost everyone has shifted to a defensive playstyle, because in competitiveness, perfection is tied to a passive playstyle. UFC fighting goes the same way, it's all defense and some jabs here and there until you find the mistake and go for it. I'll wait
@@monocleduck1115 i am comparing playstyles, league was an example, but that's how fightng games work too, dbfz, ggst, sf, they are based on block strings and finding mistakes on either player to punish (I even compared it to real life UFC fighting, go read the other replies on this comment lmao)
How did I miss this? This is awesome! MegD is probably the player that has most radically changed how I play. Before first watching him, I was a new Jaeyun player swapping from Lucien. Lucien works very well for an aggressive playstyle, but as fun as greatsword is, it needs a slower pace to let it shine. Not only that, but I was beginning to realize that I do best when formulating a plan, and tend to lose in scrambles. When I first saw MegD, I didn't see a passive player, I saw a way to get me the time and space to formulate a plan for each opponent. I could rely on letting my opponents make mistakes early on to keep me in the match while I downladed how they moved, setting up for my greatsword in the endgame. And most importantly, I learned that a guaranteed punish, no matter how small, is better than an optimal punish. It doesn't matter how much more damage I could have gotten from a sword dlight combo, because the nlight that I KNEW would hit still gave me damage and stage positioning. I do get hate from people calling me passive, but I don't mind as long as they keep charging headfirst into a greatsword slight. So thank you, MegD, for showing me a way to play to my strengths. Also the slowdown edits every time the MegD tech was used is peak editing.
If he was worried about what others thought of him as a competitor we would have never seen this amount of success. His playstyle is extremely fundamental to the point where a lot of it is just punishing missed attacks as a development. What I like most is that everyone complains about passive play but we have never had a shining example like this in high high top 12's and top 8's
I really enjoy trying to match up the emotions of the video with the best music choice possible from Lunziestella! Her music is so unique and I find myself listening to it while I game all the time.

I wish playing passive was cooler in platform fighters, I think its cool in traditional fighters (2d and 3d) but its just feels wrong in a platform fighter, probably because u gotta camp for about 7 minutes in a platform fighter (and usual its really easy to run), while in a traditional fighter its 60~90 second rounds, and running is not easy unless its from a slow character, traditional fighters are simultaneously faster and slower than platform fighters, I feel like depending on the player it could fall to either extreme, although it usually is a good middle ground
I was telling this to my friend who plays Smash who asked about why you can't just punish MegD for constantly air dodging or holding center stage. Essentially Brawl is missing the core element of in between running and attacking and that's blocking/shield. Also you can turn on a dime instantly and dodge instantly. The characters feel light as a feather when compared to other games. I like to say a 5 minute Brawl game is the mental equivalent of a 40 minute League of Legends match or a Overtime Overwatch game. It's super mentally draining.
@@Vondakay I think if u dodge through an attack in brawlhalla it should have the frame data it has now, but if u miss then it should have more end lag to be punishable to make running a bit harder. And I honestly think blocking should be in more platform fighters, if done right, smash does not, in traditional fighting games there are a lot of safe attacks, and even attacks that are plus on block (which means that the attacker can act before the defender), but in smash practically everything is punishable which makes blocking op, and people dont grab enough cause its risky and no one will go for the grab up air mix (jump beats grab grab beats shield up air beats jump, but loses to shield, rolling beats both grabing and up air but u get no punish its a fun little mind game), and I really like strike throw mixes like that, I hope rivals of aether 2 does blocking like a traditional fighter so its not a 99% counter to normal attacks, and I hope a platform fighter does High low mixups, I dont think it would be too much in a platform fighter like some say

Thank you!! for the motivation I am about to hop right back into content making when I am done with my current job.
I enjoy making the little hype montages and I was always inspired by youtubers when I first started watching gaming videos that made montages and I think this is my way of recognizing them
newer played Brawlhalla but now im hooked
veery great video :D
People saying in the comments that MegD is skilled and good but just boring to watch don't take the time to think "huh, maybe MegD doesn't care if hes entertaining when playing in a professional tournament; maybe he's just out to win it or get good placement"
Like guys, if the playstyle he uses is racking up wins then I'm sure he's gonna keep using it instead of caring about being interesting or not
Yeah but that doesn't mean that his playstyle and him as a player isn't deserving of hate and scrutiny.
@@fire5258 lmao, he is a pro, not a celebrity.
@@hetoverseo3887 I'm well aware? He's a top player, and yet everything I said still applies.
His mindset isn't to play for others, it's to play for himself.
wow didnt thought they hated him i liked him and thought he would win a lot
Opinions change!! Lot's of players didn't like Luna initially either
@@Vondakay what was the reason tho? his playstyle is insanely fun to watch
Wow this was a great video, never knew how much an underdog megD was! Definitely gonna check out more of your content
MAJOR underdog especially when it came to MSI he dramatically increased his level of play soon after MSI too. Thank you for watching and I hope you find the others interesting. FAIR WARNING they are very cringe
I remember him thx to the online era, players at that time started hating on him just after the hate for cosolix, it sucks
This was a cool watch. I only play Melee and traditional fighting games but I'm about to find some videos on competitive Brawlhalla's mechanics.
I don't really care about the Brawlhalla competitive scene, however, your video made it very interesting.
I've no idea why I'm here, or why UA-cam recommended me this. I didn't even know Brawlhalla had an E-sport scene. I'm just going to clap because the explanations and editing are pretty.
Thank you!!! I appreciate you letting me know. Brawlhalla is kind of one side e-sports and another side party game. So sometimes people only see one side.
When there's always an Unorthodox player in any game, the community complains because they play different. Its very very common....
Yeah I could see it being common. Some people mention Hbox earlier too. I know people disliked how Dragon played aswell
Love it when megd plays so I can get more viewership rewards
I love these type of videos, the pros that peopel hated too becoming some of the best, the story of MegD is like the story of hungrybox
a lot of people in video games take playstyles personally. playstyles can be annoying but all of it literally is a case of "don't hate the player, hate the game"

It Is Just BH tbh
In Other games usually players have a certain set of characters Who are divided in classes
BH Is really Just play however you want with whatever you want.
It Is a good thing? Yes, in that way everyone can adapt to the Legend they like more
It's not the best thing when you have 8 minutes for One single match where you can wait for the timeout doing nothing Other than dodging and/or waiting for punishes (with also being able to do every Other thing every Other Legend can do). I also don't think adopting the same playstyle would be beneficial to the game, unless players suddenly start to enjoy it
its most likely the helpnesses someone feels when they believe they are putting their all into something and not getting the disred outcome immediately. Fighting games are p good at giving the match results away very fast and people like to know if they are better or not immediately (some do mainly the impatient ones)
SO when they are not immediately guaranteed the win they get upset and resign
MegD is good to watch his playstyle if different then any other players, even though he was the most passive in the brawl scene further on in his career he improved its just he knows he can win tournaments he makes too many mistakes which throws him off but other then that MegD is a really good player and I hope he wins a tournament soon
Literally two decades on youtube and I've scarcely come across a Brawlhalla recomm.
I played the game once today. 15 minutes in the training mode before uninstalling.
And suddenly, youtube knew.
my fault hopefully was kinda cool!
@@Vondakay It was.
I have no idea what is going on. This video is fire. Go MegD. Luna’s a beast.
In a tournament scene or whenever prize money is involved, what matters is a strat that makes you win, not whether it’s entertaining to watch.
One of my friends is a high ranking brawl player, and one of his favorite screenshots hes gotten in the last month is MegD calling him a coward or something for playing more passive than he did after he took a game off him lol.

I've always liked MegD. He's good as fuck. It was awesome watching his underdog story a couple years back.
Thank you for watching!! Ive always thought he was cool too

Underdog is such a goodword how did I not think of that. I LITERALLY COULD'VE USED THAT. Thank you for watching tho

Respects to him for being incredibly talented and patient under focus and all that. But I will never enjoy watching a megD match and if I ever fight anyone playing like that, I will dc because I don't play brawlhalla for a 6-7 minute battle of patience
Bro ain’t even do anything to anybody. Like other pro players, he’s just trying to have a good time❤
Dude plays like Justin Wong, a defensive style to frustrate the enemy. He just capitalizes on that to win. I respect MegD.
Me, who doesn't play Brawlhalla: Wait, he's just abusing the mechanics that let Adderall filled players do insane true combos, but he's edge guarding?

I just learned about megD today and I'm very happy to hear he lost god is good
God made you a hater for a reason 🫡 he’s doing pretty good right now. I’d say his main highlight was his spring run and then performing highly at BCX.
He’s a bit more aggressive now and funny enough he teams with Raydish a well known passive player at the top lev as well.
MegD does the same side-to-side movement I do
It's very apparent on Sword too when you can really see me swap around. He doesn't dash much either tbh. It's so hard to learn from him because it's super super fundamental
MegD turtled his way to finish line and realized it ain't a story so the rabbit got the win
i left the brawl scene for a few years and just got back into it. foda looks so good! 1:10

I know absolutely nothing about brawlhalla but seeing you guys have your own version of sonix is pretty funny.
Yes we do and we appreciate him despite the way he plays… unfortunately. I heard sonix is getting better though right!

Im just saying, he's playing how all games are supposed to be played, playing perfectly and waiting for mistakes, the riskier you play, the more mistakes you make. Saying his playstyle is boring is like saying a bronce game in league, is more exciting than pro play.
That comparison makes little to no sense. You're comparing apples to oranges.
I'll wait
@@chocobollo6975 no way ur comparing a fighting game to an strategy game
@@monocleduck1115 i am comparing playstyles, league was an example, but that's how fightng games work too, dbfz, ggst, sf, they are based on block strings and finding mistakes on either player to punish (I even compared it to real life UFC fighting, go read the other replies on this comment lmao)
but I guess I can't expect much from the brawlhalla community, after all you are probably 12 years old and have never analysed pro play in any game
Also the slowdown edits every time the MegD tech was used is peak editing.
ur a hardstuck gold are you
he's like the peak of "I play for myself" bc boy is he boring to watch lol. I think he's overhated. If his play style works, it works, end of.
@@Vondakay yup, absolutely

I wish playing passive was cooler in platform fighters, I think its cool in traditional fighters (2d and 3d) but its just feels wrong in a platform fighter, probably because u gotta camp for about 7 minutes in a platform fighter (and usual its really easy to run), while in a traditional fighter its 60~90 second rounds, and running is not easy unless its from a slow character, traditional fighters are simultaneously faster and slower than platform fighters, I feel like depending on the player it could fall to either extreme, although it usually is a good middle ground
That is true tho thats probbaly why players in brawl dont like dragged out games bc in really is really ez to run away if you know what you doing.
