10 tips for anyone starting out (and somethings I wanted to correct that I saw in the video which he may have already covered but I wanted to type this out before I forget). 1. Build =/= Height. 2. You can inspect a person to bring up a file to see what they look like (the person MATN shined the flashlight at might not of had blue eyes, it was likely their glasses that made it look blue). 3. If you dont mind being loud, you can sprint into a door and time a click to force it open. It may take several tries though. 4. Sometimes you can find keys beneath door mats. 5. Important places to check are bedside tables and any drawers in them and closet spaces which may contain a box with information about their workplace or places they visit. 6. While the above locations are important to check, if you have the time LOOK THROUGH EVERYTHING! do not leave a drawer unopened. 7. Cameras suck at seeing in the dark, turn off the lights and you may not even need to touch the breaker box. 8. If a something that is written on the wall at a crime scene is blocked, check a newspaper and it will likely tell you what was on the wall (also can reveal things you may have missed). 9. Not all murders are personal, some murders may have zero connection to their victim and are doing it because they are a criminal lunatic. 10. If all you have is a phone number on a target, you can call the number and then check the call logs which are usually located in either a basement or shed. the call log will show a general address which can narrow down your search. Bonus: don't know if this has any purpose in game or not but if you spam knock on a door it will get progressively louder until it sounds like your about to break it down. just thought it was funny. Edit - Additional tips after watching more of the video: 11. Apartments can be decorated if you access your inventory, there should be a button that allows you to purchase furniture. 12. Ask people who work or live near the crime scene, chances are they saw a suspicious person and can give you an additional descriptor or direction they were headed. 13. Check the front door for finger prints, if they match ones found at a crime scene it could very well mean that the murder is a neighbor or roommate/partner of the victim. 14. Clicking on a highlightable phonenumber or passcode whilst looking at a phone or safe automatically inputs said phone number or passcode so you dont need to manually type it. 15. Most citizens will have an address book which contains the names and addresses of people the citizen are in contact with the most often (Number of addresses can vary wildly). 16. Workplaces contain employee files, all of which show the employees fingerprints. 17. Not every place will try to kill you if you are caught tresspassing, some will give you a chance to leave if you dont do anything illegal in front of them.
Also, fingerprints don't last forever, either, they fade over time (not exactly sure of the time frame). It's quite possible to fail to solve a case and have the evidence disappear. Then you have to wait for the murderer to strike again before you can catch them!
Also, if you pick something up, you can inspect it for fingerprints from your inventory. Often easier than trying use the scanner on small objects like business cards and discarded papers.

@Many A True Nerd Very odd story. I saw a random NPC running across the streets and I decided to follow them. I actually was in between doing job listings. They headed to their apartment complex, still running like they were nervous or something, locked their door behind them. Like 15 seconds later, I hear gunshots inside. I lockpick the door and see that they've just shot their partner to death. I kid you not, I randomly found the murderer. I was able to solve this case faster than probably anything else in the game by sheer coincidence. The NPC was running home to shoot their partner living with them, pretty dark after I realized that So I ran in, handcuffed them and then later the murder case proper appeared if I remember correctly. Yes this game is a bit nuts with how deep the world simulation goes. So I didn't know they were a murderer, I just managed to find the killer live going to the murder spot because I was bored and they seemed suspicious running everywhere, it sounds absurd but that's how it happened I was also playing in a large city so I feel like the odds of seeing something like this must have been pretty low, but the game still includes it
As a side note, one of my favorite things to do in this game is to break into workplaces/surveillance rooms and check the security camera footage. I was once… investigating a penthouse apartment for some sync discs when I heard an argument in their front hall. It was a married couple, where apparently the husband was cheating on his wife. The argument got so heated, the husband stabbed his wife to death, and I got a murder report. This game is one of the most immersive simulations of a city I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing!
I turned off murders in the options and used the same investigation techniques to become a thief. After seeing a person leave a penthouse, I went in through the vent then started grabbing what I could. Imagine my surprise when I entered the bedroom of this empty apartment to find the husband asleep and snoring loudly. It genuinely made me panic.

I was waiting outside a pawn shop, constantly checking if it was open to try and sell a diamond in my inventory. I saw someone running, in a hurry to get somewhere, and having nothing better to do I gave chase. They entered the building next door and went down into the basement, where they entered what looked like a shop. When I tried to follow in after them, I was apparently trespassing and the clerk shouted at me to get out. I was confused for a bit since I'd never seen a shop in a basement before - but then visions of the word 'Weapons Dealer' flashed before my eyes. The hunt was on, they ran out of the shop and I continued my spirited chase, my diamond would have to be sold another day. They headed up to an apartment building, which I assumed was their home. We sprinted up many, many, many flights of stairs together until we reached a hallway filled with lofty, upper-middle class apartments. They went up to a door and started opening it, so I started crouch over and over again behind them, looking over their shoulder to see what they were doing, checking my watch. "Let me in, I want to steal your shit," I whispered, still under the assumption this was their home. Finally they opened the door and sprinted inside, shutting the door in my face. I grumbled and slammed it back open, realizing something was amiss as they hadn't locked the door behind them. I saw them run into a bedroom - and then I heard a loud bang as they whipped out a gun. I heard the sounds of a scuffle and then watched as the homeowner ran into view, holding their arms behind their head and shouting in fear. Another loud shot and the corpse flopped down to the ground in the way that corpses do. I watched through the open door as I saw the murderer scrawl out their little pentagram. Then they headed out, past me, still blatantly standing in the open door. The police scanner buzzed and the familiar words 'A murder has been reported' popped up, presumably because *I* was the one who found the body. I had already slapped their photo down into my notebook, as I do with everyone I'm planning to rob blind. And, even more fortunate, they were polite enough to tell me their full name for 50cr on their way out! Jon's ability to turn a simple B&E job in a game like this into multiple fist fights and chase scenes makes me think he'd be quite a natural fit for a standard Shadowrun tabletop RPG campaign.
This game is interesting, artstyle and themes remind me of clouldpunk. Really impressed by all the systems that must be running in the background. If the devs see this I think it’d be pretty cool if the player could tell someone that the person they’re asking about was dead, and/or that they’re an investigator, maybe even use that to make it harder/easier for them to gain entry. Just cuz it felt a bit off that Jon could tell the woman her partner was killed. Idk if Job was having a -1 moment but if the murder weapon could be a bit more flexible that’d be cool, since I would count a vail of poison to be a murder weapon tbh. Also maybe allow players to submit people like they can other evidence so ppl like me and Jon don’t accidentally misspell names.
I do believe that telling people that a person is dead is a dialogue option as while I only recently got the game there was an option for the "In the dead of night" case to tell someone about a murder of a friend. They even gave me advice and a suspect. The problem is Jon doesn't scroll through the dialogue options.
In my game, I apprehended the cashier at the only pawn shop in the city, thus making diamonds worthless because there was no one willing to buy my precious, stolen goods
Blade Runner in 1997 was a PC game, where every new game had a differnet story. The player, Roy, could be a Hunter and a replicant one playthough or a human the next. You stop your hunt, quit the police and runaway with a 14 year old pinked haired punk girl. You could kill a guy, thinking he's a clone, but in one run, he's not and you go to jail. I'd give my soul for another game like it.
Finally! I was waiting for this video! Haha Btw there’s a whole menus where you can buy furniture and basically any item in the game to furnish your apartment however you’d like!
I kind of want to turn this into a live in life simulator while a serial killer just roams, or even your own serial killer adventure until you accidentally kill the murderer
Yeeeees!! Been hoping you'd either be streaming or making a video on this for weeks! After how much Nerdcubed loved I had a feeling he'd be like "Jon, Jon you have to see this game"
Come on, he had probable cause! The suspect's fingerprint was on a calling card left at the crime scene, and the murder was work-related judging from the messages left at the scene and the suspect was a coworker of the victim.
I had "fun" with security. In the tutorial I was investigating a burger place the victim had been to the night before being killed. I didn't see someone in the office, they ran off and triggered the security, which promptly gunner her down. You can buy furniture for you apartment.
And that empty apartment you bought... Is empty because you get to do the interior decorating yourself! Not sure whether you missed that or just chose not to include it in your video, but it's cool just how detailed this game is in areas other than just the detective work.
pretty engaging game. I've been systematically breaking into as many apartments as possible between murders to get as much info and loot as I can. I love bashing in the door and knocking them out cold when they come to answer it. Could use some optimization, but quite fun : ).

@@irishihadapotato7084 Ah, so perception -1
I have played this game so dang much recently I may be vaguely useful if this were to be streamed
I look forward to when Jon makes a Livestream of this game.
Watched a friend stream this today, and couldn't help thinking how much I hoped you'd play it!
Ha, wasn't expecting a Stoke shout out. Looks equally as grimy!
In my game, I apprehended the cashier at the only pawn shop in the city, thus making diamonds worthless because there was no one willing to buy my precious, stolen goods
It's kinda cheaty, but you can drop items in your apartment and sell them through the decorating menu
NEED MORE OF THIS JON
This was such a good video and I would love to see more of this game, maybe even a stream!
This game fits with Jon so well 😂
i would love more for this, all in one 'world' and with some kind of challenge or goal
I haven't even watched the video yet and i already want a series
Blade Runner in 1997 was a PC game, where every new game had a differnet story. The player, Roy, could be a Hunter and a replicant one playthough or a human the next. You stop your hunt, quit the police and runaway with a 14 year old pinked haired punk girl. You could kill a guy, thinking he's a clone, but in one run, he's not and you go to jail. I'd give my soul for another game like it.
Such an interesting game
The murderer's name literally being pronounced You Can Die has so much Ace Attorney energy
I was just about to play this!
Much like everyone else, I've been looking forward to this!
this game scratches a itch i didnt know i had and would like to see more of it
Yay, I'm glad you played it, would love to see more
Loved this! Very much looking forward to seeing more!
This is like a playable detective pulp. I love it! Hope they don't focus too much on guns
This game seems like a great livestream option
Really hoping we can see more of this in the future!
It is amusing to see a detective occasionally commit robbery just so he can live in a better apartment
Yueqin Dai....You can die. My god this world works on comic books rules if you have an evil name you will be evil.
no way. i'm from stoke and had this on in the back ground. this is brilliant
Really enjoyed watching Jon definitely never get caught doing any crimes lol
You left your prints on a burger carton and coffee cup at the scene of a diamond theft...
that had a witness to you being there.
Would love to see this or Disco Elysium as a series. Watch you almost every day, you are great and make really good content, keep it up!
The Many a True Detective Agency methodology:
1) B&E
2) ?????
3) Profit!
YES
I pray that there’s more! I can’t wait for more!🎉
YES I’ve been waiting for Jon to play this.
Would love to watch an extended series on this
I'm pretty sure my first investigation ended with me committing hate-crimes.
This game is super impressive, please do play it again
I've had a blast playing this so far
46:40 Jon makes himself the #1 suspect in the murder case.
Watched Nerd³'s videos on this and decided to come see how John handled being a detective by comparison
"Someone in this city is a murderer."
I wonder if it's the person who worked next to the victim. You know, the person named 'You Can Die'.
This was a blast
Y'know if you still want more sim games Landlord Super just fully released....
Jon arrested someone in their own home after breaking and entering, with nothing but circumstantial evidence. He should work for the LAPD.
Come on, he had probable cause! The suspect's fingerprint was on a calling card left at the crime scene, and the murder was work-related judging from the messages left at the scene and the suspect was a coworker of the victim.
I like to think that the room that Jon broke into with the chicken wallpaper is Dan's. He used that wallpaper in the stream he did of this game. Lol
Looks interesting. Like Observer, Shadow Run and Westerado had a baby.
I had "fun" with security. In the tutorial I was investigating a burger place the victim had been to the night before being killed. I didn't see someone in the office, they ran off and triggered the security, which promptly gunner her down.
You can buy furniture for you apartment.
As I live in Stoke I can confirm that Stoke will never be that tidy 😂
Jon missing the human skull in that first apartment 👌
32:01 I didn't know Jshlatt worked in a coffee shop
And that empty apartment you bought... Is empty because you get to do the interior decorating yourself! Not sure whether you missed that or just chose not to include it in your video, but it's cool just how detailed this game is in areas other than just the detective work.
pretty engaging game. I've been systematically breaking into as many apartments as possible between murders to get as much info and loot as I can. I love bashing in the door and knocking them out cold when they come to answer it. Could use some optimization, but quite fun : ).
I been waiting for you to get to this one.
"Hi, I'm here to investigate your partner's murder and steal all of your valuables, may I come in?"
I was waiting for this video since the game came put
More of this please
