Very helpful. Vielen dank mein freund. 1) Do you ever recommend the fast-fashion house Mango? I've found a few good items from them recently like some polos and even an unlined linen blazer (which are not easy to find, especially so affordable), but it was hit-and-miss in the fabric quality of many of their items. 2) Do you find Miami a culture shock for you coming from Europe? I've not seen all of Miami (it's a big city), but the many parts I did visit, while fun, it was not exactly full of sartorial splendor. Very casual vibe and surely the heat has much to do with this. I often felt overdressed wearing a nice suit but I did it anyway. I live in NY and sadly it is more stressful every day to dress nicely in many parts with crime going up and businesses leaving. I hope all of you reading this are having a great week. Cheers. Addendum: I've had great luck with Bonobos with their excellent selection of chinos and chino shorts in all cuts and styles. Great customer service. Highly recommended.
As of last year I purchased a few items from the brand: Velasca. A pair of boots, a pair of loafers & a double breasted coat. Very happy with the quality of the products, and I think they're definitely worth the money. However, I do recommend to wait until a sale occurs, usually they provide a sale of 20% on items which are for the current season (and on some occassions a 20% sale on all items on the website).
I’ve been curious, but leery of them since Mr. Gent Z’s recommendation of them. I was reading that they tend to have “flimsier” fabrics. But you do get what you pay for. I’m interested in buying a canvas chore jacket for this upcoming season. Chore jackets are one of my favorite items, but Zegna is miles out of my budget.
Great video, there are some brands here unfamiliar to me that I will be checking out this evening. I like Charles Tyrwhitt shirts as they have a sleeve length option (I have short arms apparently). I have a olive green linen suit of thiers which I think is well tailored and never fails to solicit complements. Thier chinos are also a very good wardrobe staple. Thanks for the pronunciation tip btw, I always get tongue tied trying to say thier name. I hope you are settling into your new home.
Just went to Banana Republic outlet store and loved it. I bought 2 polos and a sweater. Wanted to buy much more but the outlet store didn’t have my size in any of the pants.
Video idea. Introduction to clothing basics. What are chinos, trousers, jeans, high rise, low cut, shirts, knitwear, t shirts, slim vs relaxed vs loose, etc. I think you get the idea
Suit supply felt off. Used to ship suits with nice box, and hangers were wooden. Now no box, plastic hanger, and increased price. Always happens when company gets big (spent a lot on advertising). Seems that some material used is also now lower quality, thinner. For shoes go with bridlen (90-280usd), tlb mallorca (100-480).. these two have different lines so can find anything for your budget. Yearn shoemaker is also amazing, 500-700 bucks (quality of 2000+ shoes from UK manufacturers). Missed nice clothing brand John Henric.
I‘ve had a gray flannel suit from J.Crew for several years. The quality is great, and is one of the best fitting pieces of clothing I own. Highly recommended!! Keep up the good work!
Ralph Lauren has a spectrum of quality from trashy to purple label so would be very careful. Loro Piana and brunello cucinelli are superior but with a high price tag. Agree that boss quality got worse over the years, but so did massimo duti designs. Now it's all very basic and lacks character. Porsche design is a hidden gem, love their products although very limited collection. Rodd and gunn make phenomenal casual shirts. Interested to know what you think of Zegna and Armani?
I don't think there are "good" brands anymore just good clothing. Unfortunately these days, we have to search for "gems" in many different stores of different brands to build an affordable wardrobe. Unless you have unlimited budget, that's the only option I'm afraid...
Absolutely great video! Love the pokemon collection. I recently refreshed my wardrobe in Massimo Dutti, so bought more items at once, as there was a quite big sale going.. So far, very happy, with all pieces, the fabrics are perfect ratio for the price. Charles Thyrwitts shirt was one of my luckiest pick as I have never heard of the brand before, I definitely recommend trying, I have my shirts for 2 years and they still look new... My question is COS, I was thinking of going to pick some basic T-shirts from them, but am not convinced yet. I would really appreciate any feedback on this brand.
I have use Bonobos for quite some time now. I really like the feel and fit of their pants. Their short sleeved button down “Riviera” shirts are fun and of ok quality. Their oxfords, I found to be at least the equivalent of Ralph Lauren. Banana Republic has always been a strong brand for me. High quality, clean and timeless looks. They’ve gone through a little revamping recently, and I like where they’ve gone.
I envy that Pokemon Collection haha. For me Wrangler is definitely a go go for denim shirts, they are so timeless, although cowboy clothing is not for everyone. What's your opinion on Brooks Brothers?
Coming from relatively small eastern european country, I was extremely happy with suitsupply when I discovered it (and was able to afford it). Couldn't agree more on the choice for basics of the wardrobe. I also agree on the Brunello Cucinelli topic. I didn't know anything about the brand, when I stumbled upon a physical store some time ago. My first reaction was - wow! similar to suitsupply but more elevated and quality is even higher!.. And then came the shock after I saw the prices. Yes, everything is better than suitsupply, but not €20k per sweater better. P.S. Love your channel, please keep being the inspiration!
Great starting points in there, thank you. I'd love an episode looking at the most sustainable brands that produce quality fashion. It can be really difficult to find and compare fashion with sustainability. Keep up the great work avoiding poor product placement and click bait.
Wonderful video- helpful too, as you mentioned a number of brands I had never heard of before. I love Bonobos, and they have great sales. I would like to differ slightly on Zara- specifically for shoes. For example, you mentioned on one of your short videos how yacht shoes aren’t worth it because they can quickly become out of shape. However, because the price on Zara yacht shoes is so low, you can buy them and enjoy them guilt free.
Hello! The warm and lovely season that we call summer is coming to it’s end and soon darker and cooler days are coming. Therefore people’s wardrobes have to change and be adapted to the right weather and circumstances, as for autumn and winter. A simple request that I have for you is to make a video going over the best brands and materials of clothing for the much cooler seasons, clothing like shoes, jackets, coats, pants and various accessories. This would be of great help if you could make video going through just that! Have a lovely day!
Zu charles tyrwhitt: ich habe vor ca. 5 Jahren einen Anzug im Shop in London gekauft und bin immer noch sehr zufrieden, schöner Stoff und für mich perfekter Schnitt
I agree about Suitsupply, I have tried to find alternatives for their items made of the same materials and same craftsmanship and I just can't find one. The other brands I find similar items in are way way more expensive! I do love the way their shirts fit but I am literally going to order one from Sir of Sweden now because if it's better than Suitsupply I will use them for shirts instead.
Just like Abercrombie had a resurgence as a contemporary brand, Banana Republic has risen up a classic men’s wear brand in the past years. Their winter and fall coats and jackets have been my long kept and go to pieces. I own a classic black trench, camel wool coat, a blue plaid padded jacket with a corduroy collar, a grey wool, and a mac trench. All of which I had for more than 5 years. Hope that you get to try some of their pieces. Not a big fan of their shoes.
Uniqlo is great… I got a few items and they have latest for a long time. I usually struggle to find pants because my a$$ is big, and this place has the right space for that, also they offer free tailoring services if a pant or a jacket doesn’t fit correctly… fyi. Sizes run a bit small
Excellent video, very informative. Incidentally , I own a pair of Brunello shoes, which are absolutely beautiful, that I picked up from Abbot's Shoes in the UK. Pre-owned but you would never know. Worth checking out. Currently upgrading my wardrobe and have several shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt, as well as some nice knitwear from Burberry and Ralph Lauren. Living in Sweden I also have chinos and linen shirts from John Henric and more formal shirts from Oscar. Can highly recommend both companies. Looking forward to checking out Myrkvist, Meermin and the others you mentioned. Thanks again!
Excellent! I recommend Rodd and Gunn for jeans! I agree, J. Crew is a must. I regret not purchasing a distressed motorcycle jacket, recently. Now it’s sold out. The quality for the price was outstanding
I agree about Hugo Boss. They have declined significantly the past 5-10 years. I can still find some key pieces here and there, but it’s not as consistent as it used to be. Right now, I’ve moved on to Theory, as it has the quality that Boss used to have with the clean looks I like.
I’ve noticed very few influencers are talking about Brooks Brothers for shirts and knitwear these days, but the “Navy Blazer” and “BIFL” crowds on Reddit are still pretty positive on most staple pieces. Any reason for that or general heartburn with the brand?
Their t shirts = no; Spoke t- shirts - esp. the stripes ( see how the chest & arms align) are better ( esp. In sales). Their OBCD didn't fit me - john lewis did. Asket hats - only item si far - satisfied. Hawes & Curtis - for linen shirts & overshirts. The Gap for m -65 jackets Community Clothing for a parka.
Bonobos experience: their swimsuits are actually quite nice, but their chinos get this weird blue staining effect when they get wet. BR: like a slightly higher quality version of JCrew. Better stitching and slightly higher quality fabrics
A colleague used to Mr Reiss but is now buying more from M&S - he couldn't justify the price vs quality ( me too now). I should have asked him about the L' estrange ( oh, dear) clothing he got some months ago.
Speaking of Massimo Dutti, I'd definitely avoid their knitwear as it tends to pill quite quickly, especially the cashmere stuff (seriously, cheap cashmere is never a good option). Since you mentioned shoes, I own a pair of suede desert boots which turned out to be quite durable for the price (around $80 on sale). Shirts are ok but it's best to go browsing during sales, otherwise the price/quality ratio is not that great.

Not impressed by Pini Parma material quality. You pay for the ”made in Italy”, and corners are being cut. Bought only two times so far, and both went to the bin in a couple of months. One shirt after a few washes, as the collar fusing came undone. Another line/wool overshirt has so much pilling that it was unusable. Maybe their tailoring might be better, but at that price point you have more reliable options.

Love Asket, the knitwear and the flannel shirts are fantastic, and their size system is really convenient. Also recommend the Portuguese brand ISTO.
From Portugal... I also love Sacoor Brothers. Their suits are definitely well made! ❤
