Every Canadian over 50 has this theme song stuck somewhere in their memories. Great Canadian show, as good as anything Hollywood was doing at the time.
I saw a taping of King of Kensington at the CBC studios in Toronto north of Bloor Street north on Yonge Street in 1978. By that time Fiona Reid had left. Al Waxman's secretary was my roommate's sister and she arranged for us to meet Mr. Waxman before the taping. A very gracious and kind man.
My first time in Kensington Market was only about 5 years ago. As I approached, couldn’t help but have this song rushing through my mind. All I needed was the bag of peanuts.
Sir Soul Brother. Yes it definitely worth a watch. Hillarious. But...Keep in mind, it is a 1970's program. So, the humour may seem tame and a bit lame compared to Today's usual standards. That said; I hope you find it and enjoy it. I sure did. 🤝👍👍
"What a guy!" at the end of the song was voiced by an Estonian man named Rudy (can't remember his last name) who was a draftsman at Morrison Hershfield in Toronto. My father worked there and as a kid we'd ask Rudy to say that line when visiting the office, lol.

I have to come back here once in while just listening to the theme song, I miss those days.

I grew up in that neighborhood same time tv show was on
Love this theme song. One of my all time favorite theme songs.
For a brief time in the late 1970s, WNEW-TV (now WYNW-TV) in New York City aired reruns of King of Kensington.
Interesting. Guess I missed that one. Though at that point anything on after 10 at night I was unlikely to have seen.
How many people remembers this show.
I sure do 😊

I do , I was 7 when it ended ,,,,but I heard the song many times from my room when adults watched it . Burned into my brain forever
I watched this show with family ☺️ great Canadian show.
An all time great theme song!
Back when Canada was awesome and tv was great.
What a guy.
Now, that's vintage CBC, eh!
When destiny calls him phone is busy ! LOL
When CBC shows were watchable. Plus, a 1 minute opening! They don't do that anymore.
Love it the KING of Canada.
Where can someone in the US watch this? Is it worth a watch?

Definitely recommended. Love this show.
Is this Toronto??
Yes it is
Yes, it was set in the Kensington Market district of Toronto. Hence the show's name.
my dog is the king of Kensington
That's the day I turned 15. 😃
Who knew that area was going to become crack avenue 😂
He wouldn't recognize Kensington today.
I mon been watching homeless drugs in cities like the Tenderloin, Kensington etc and remember the TV shows name but never watched it as a teenager
He's King of CONDO TOWN .... what a ... guy?

ugh..fucking copyrights greed..they took down the full episodes..
Has anybody seen Kensington Street now ? It's the worst street in Canada.
Hastings Street between Gore and Columbia in Vancouver probably takes the cake. I'm going to Toronto for the first time in 15 years, so I'll see.

1000% Right on that one!!!
extra terrible lead song ... but the show was funny and had a feel of realism.
I remember picking up Season 1 on DVD nearly a decade ago. It’s sad that they never bothered with the other seasons.
The corner shown at the beginning was Augusta and Nassau, correct?
