As Alex once said in his Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade: Don't buy gaming gear for sound, buy used music gear.
Yep. I bought the multi award winning, best-thing-since-sliced-bread Arctis 7's, as a replacement for my old cloud 2's, and they literally sounded worse. At that point I decided, fuck this, returned them, and got some audio technica wireless cans. Best decision I ever made
@@willsoe your happy with the wireless solution? never had a good wireless headphone yet. how long does battery last?
@@willsoe I bet that only lasts 24 hours or even 4 hour less for the rubbish you bought.
HyperX Cloud 2 (wired) are pretty descent for music too. At least for the price
Yeah I absolutely agree gaming headsets are just not a good investment. Most gamers should probably just get wired pair. You can get a perfectly serviceable pair of Phillips SHP 9500 or x2hr for 50 to $90 on the resale market. You can always get a qudelix 5k if you want to go wireless. And you don't have to worry about buying the latest, because there's no battery and no software to worry about.
I love how that little "14 your old me" story perfectly explains why Razer's EQ has been hot garbage since forever and they still don't care about making it any better.
It's not made to sound good.
It's made to blow a 14 year old's mind.
Good thing my first proper headphones were some Superlux ones with good and flat sound, razer, creative etc. blew me away when I tried them, by how terrible they were, muddy, no detail, no clarity, no bass, just some noise trying to impress 5yo kids with thumping.
Makes me glad that I have used actual quality headphones for literally forever altho I do have a razer microphone cuz i couldn't find much else in stock for like 40 dollars and sounds good enough for a mic
I had to almost kill 250Hz (by -10dB) and decrease 4Khz ranges (by -6dB) to make it sound somewhat flat (on Razer Kraken TE).
@Constantijn Pino it's a piss take, because beats have made the average consumer think that more bass = better sound. So they try actual quality headphones for a short amount of time and hate them because you can hear the other instruments lol
‘s mind
Holy crap this review was targeted at me. I was JUST shopping around to see if there's a good wireless replacement for my K7XX's and was considering these. So thanks for the save Adam!
For on the go just buy some Sony WH-1000XM3. better than the Razer shit, and you can get them for under $200.
The HyperX alphas are pretty good as well
K7XX represent! I've a bunch of headphones, but I still keep my old beat up K7XX around just for gaming. All day comfort, superb soundstage and imaging and the tuning lends itself well for gaming. I don't particularly like them for anything else, but for gaming they are irreplaceable.
You can get REALLY good bluetooth receiver +DAC/AMP for your existing headphones (so your 'old' wired hedphones + receiver = wireless hedphones). Ones from Fiio are decent, as I heard
@@petroz5505 I'm not sure how well that would go with K7XX. They aren't the easiest to drive. + Bluetooth in general isn't great for gaming. I don't know about you, but I can't deal with the 200ms+ audio latency even for watching videos, let alone gaming.
"It's not meant to be good, it's meant to be cool!" might just be my favourite description of razer. Sure, they make good things too, but cool sure seems more important to them...
Sidenote; I've tried a few anc headsets (sony m3 and m4, senny pxc550, shure aonic 50), and turning on anc has typically increased the bass response. Kinda fascinating that they managed the opposite
Razer makes ZERO good things in my book. Zero. Many many mediocre things, but Zero good things.
@@rameynoodles152 ehh. They got some good mice going for them. Not saying they're the best, because a mouse comes 100% down to preference. But anything else they make is just excessive bells and whistles with mediocre build quality and bad software. The wired Krakens are also pretty solid for their price point.
@@rameynoodles152 The huntsman V2 (not the analog one), all the Blacksharks, DeathAdders and Vipers are pretty good, aren't they?
I'm really not trying to defend them, but based on some reviews (and my own DeathAdder) it looks like these are pretty good products. Overpriced, as usual, but good!
@@tulioconcolato3963 Every single Razer mouse I've ever seen (used by friends, or my brother) have failed in less than 6 months. That's a solid 5 mice that have all failed in 6 months. 2 of these mice were replaced by customer support, and those also failed within 6 months. Not all were catastrophic failures, but, buttons would start double clicking, the scroll wheel would start to get INCREDIBLY hard to turn, buttons would stop "holding" the click... issues like that.
@@rameynoodles152 Ohhh I see, that is pretty bad indeed. Since you got so many bad examples I can see why you don't like it.
My DeathAdder is about to be 7 years old, and I did get some problems in the way that I could solve on my own, 7 years still a lot though.
I'll try to search more about the new mices, because I intent to get another Razer and what you just said worries me.

Holy shit how did I not notice
The weirdest experience where I actually was enjoying something Razer made was their Phone 2. But of course they ruined that. It had a great screen, great stereo speakers, and decent battery life. And because, I guess, they didn't sell a ton of them... they just gave up on any OS updates. So unless you wanted to root and install a custom ROM, no more Android updates for you. 😒
Only custom roms if volunteers develop for the platform. So not even that most of the time
Welcome to android
@@douglasm3310 not really, Google has since made it mandatory for manufacturers to support devices for at least 3 years system updates and 4 years of security updates
@@noisyboy971 not exactly. It was more of a suggestion, rather than a mandate. Case in point, most manufacturers only provide like 2 years of android updates, and three years of security updates. This is the case for devices that aren't Pixel, or Samsung Galaxy Whatever. Manufacturers such as Oppo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Nokia, Motorola, etc provide only 2 years of OS updates in most devices.
I like their small keyboards like the Orbweaver, but thats about it, everything else is major crap
NOTE: The USB-C charging cable is for charging only. Also, Adam had the device set to "Communication" mode instead of "Gaming" at 10:25.
Perhaps you should pin this so it's at top
That's a pretty huge mistake to make when giving impressions of a product.

I have to agree with the atrocity of Razor’s software apps. I intended to only download the synapse app (and reluctantly signed into their system) just to find out a couple of updates later they automatically downloaded the cortex app into my computer without my knowledge. The only reason why I found out is because on the top left corner of my monitor was an overlay counting my fps and playtime.
And it affects your pc performance.
I have the barracuda pro, I work at LAX with their freighter planes and I use this everyday at work. Not many people might like this but it gets the job done for me with blocking out the sounds from the planes cooling jets

I am glad he went over the Software side of things as well. That is how I feel with my ASUS laptop. I don't want to create an account to use and install my computer drivers,
I get it, but it would also be nice if they got the software working the way a customer would be using it. Just create a damn dummy account so the user knows what the product would actually be like to own. Headphones get so much of the performance from software tuning.
I bought the new Sony headphones a couple of weeks ago and it took me 5 minutes from getting them out of the box to having all of the software installed and listening to music. How hard can it be?
I just plugged mine in and didn't install anything what do you need software for in headphones..
@@maxiu.. on the sonys the software allows you to change the intensity of the ambient sound mode. Instead of just on or off. You can also customize the EQ and save it. Lastly you need it to update the headphones. Luckily you don't actually need to use it or even keep it installed if don't want it
@@pocketlint82 EQ custimisation is the probably the biggest plus of having complimentary software. that said, you shouldnt need to use to software to have good sound or even have all the features work
Yep I recently picked up a pair of Sony Wi-C100 bluetooth neckband earbuds, soon as I took them out of the box, and turned them on my Android phone found them, and downloaded the software, and even gave them a personalized name, but they also work just fine without it on my phone, and on my Linux PC running Solus Linux via a Gulikit USB C bluetooth adapter(I fully admit as a Linux user the bluetooth stacks are hot garbage, and an adapter like the Gulikit that emulates a USB sound card is a must)that I originally got for my Switch Lite, and they just paired super easy. Plus the buds, and adapter only cost me about $50 USD together.
@@maxiu.. on my Sony earbuds you can just connect them with Bluetooth and start listening. But if you want to change the button mapping, EQ, other settings, or update them you need the app. Which takes 2 seconds to download and doesn't have any account.
for 250$ i can buy the DT 990 pro and a dac E10K-TC and still have some change.
for better sound quality.
Exactly. I'd rather buy a decent audiophile headphone and use a cheap USB mic or a modmic with it and it would be far better than any gaming headset on the market. Just the thought of that is sad in a way lol.

@@blodyholy_ the thing is, the Huntsman Elite is sold for $200 - $250, and for that money there is a lot beter keyboards you can get.

"Razor, it's not supposed to be good, it's supposed to be cool."
Well that about sums up Razor completely.
Good to see a real review of a razer product. They will last a few months if that with some of the worst customer service ever.
It's not a review
Yeah and razor clearly puts a lot of money into promoting through social media channels so it's hard for me to trust the most reviews of their products.
Quality must have gone down then, I have that megalodon too and it's still working just fine at 14 years now.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 then here's mine on their razer blackshark v2 pro after having it out since launch, they're very comfortable and having the power button double as a media key I great, extremely light but are lacking in sound unless u ask people for a proper eq. That was THE best review I’ve seen in a while. Adam could run his own show…
Came for the review, stayed for Adam's sweet corduroy threads.
*Loved the review too
As someone who purchased the Razer Opus based off of it being listed highly by the RTings website, Razer, I feel, is definitely one of those brands that you have to research on a product-by-product basis.
I'm mostly mentioning this though because, before I even watch the review, I would just want to say that it looks like the new Barracuda is using the same tooling (is that what it's called? I know it is for computer cases...) for the headset design as the Opus...
Does have more options, such as a volume wheel and a mute button, which looks nice. Though RTings doesn't have the greatest rating for the Barracuda X.
I have the Razer barracuda X, and I absolutely love the headset. It's comfortable, sounds good, and works across multiple devices regardless of Bluetooth (although it would have been nice to at least have the option). I didn't even know there were other Barracuda Options.
The 2022 barracuda x has Bluetooth btw
Has it fallen apart since then?
Mines are falling apart after a year or so
For the cable plug. Those are really useful depending on your environment. If you live near a beach, desert, workshop, …
All my cable in my go to bag have plug so I am sure there is no foreign object inside them.
Military Grade is a funny saying. Knowing people in the military, and even working on the military base, "Military Grade" in real life means it's functional enough to work. Not good quality, but just working enough to perform a function good enough
Military grade = lowest bidder
Damn, Adam got the Shortcircuit way of doing things FAST. With all these new additions it's really hard to decide which LTT member we need more videos with. How about you just do all of 'em?
Adam speaks to me when he says that the banana for scale isn’t useful. It doesn’t resemble a banana (too fat) nor do bananas have one general size. Insert size matters joke here but I don’t really get much of a feel for scale with it, a laptop for scale actually helps
banana for scale is just a meme, it's not meant to be serious
@@tbunreall meme or not, it's unhelpful and is only shoehorned in to try to sell more future landfill.
I like the mutatedly large bananas that seem to be a thing for big box stores in the US. They tend to maintain a mellower flavor when they start getting over-ripe, so they remain edible to me for longer.
so, if these are 2.4ghz RF, will they work with things like Garageband/whatever for audio output for instruments instead of the horrendous lag you get with Bluetooth? a shame there's no 3.5mm jack on that dongle though for use with TVs, amps, etc
Would you say their Kraken v3 headsets sound better?
Also, I agree with the software being annoying. That and the Nahimic drivers that came with my onboard soundcard keep messing up while I do remote work and turn my wireless mouse on or off and it's really disappointing that they don't consider the loss in performance this causes the end users...
Imagine if they put the effort into making their stuff last longer than the warranty instead of making useless buzzwords.
Why would they put effort into something that makes them sell less products though?
As a company, you'd want the product to last as long as the warranty before it breaks, so consumers would have to buy a new one. Overengineering stuff does not generate revenue. Only losses.
@@BriBCG So that they won't have to give free repairs and exchanges to customers every 3 months.

Razer did a FANTASTIC job when they developed the razer viper mice. You could tell they listened to feedback when they developed them and I thought they were making a turning point as a company to be more customer centric but their headsets have always been a marketing gimmick.

Hello, which is better in terms of sound quality steelseries nova pro or barraduda pro wirelles?
I bought the Kraken X headset on clearance for $5-$10. It only has a 3.5mm jack connection, but Razer's documentation was telling me I should download their software. There's no magic gonna happen to the headset via an analog audio jack, so I didn't. It works fine, but it sure isn't a $50+ headset. Found out it works great as a headset for my phone, too.
Sad to see that Razer still doesn't give a crap about its potential buyers, bought a pair of the old Tiamat 7.1s and they were just awful.
my experience with razer, it looks cool, the software is okay, but it all breaks so soon.. all my keyboards, mouses etc broke down way to soon.. im on corsair now. This proves to be a better quality brand to me. and for headphones, nothing else then sennheiser for me ;)

The plastic around the ear cuffs where they rotate has also cracked and even though it’s just cosmetic it is annoying
After bananagate, Adam has had to write, “I will compare everything to my banana.” 1,000 times on the blackboard.
I have felt the same about Razer for a long time (since I bought their Naga Trinity mouse). It feels so good to see reputable reviewers telling me I am not the only one to think they are just a marketing company, and the Razer products are just a demo to show investors and potential customers how good their marketing services can be.
"Military Grade" means whatever works (is 7.1) at the lowest cost.
I got a Razor keyboard a couple of moths ago, its not bad but the bloatware has 10 background processes?! For a keyboard?
I am amazed how LMG keeps finding those hosts that are so fun and pleasant to watch one after another.
I have multiple razor products. A mouse and some of the higher end wireless headphones. The solution to their bad software is simple; don't install it, or use it and then uninstall. If you REALLY need to mess with some settings you can usually install their garbage, set up what you want, and then uninstall and the setting stays.
And how is that a good solution to artificially created problem?

I found my Razor headsets to be uncomfortable. As far as gaming sets go, I prefer Astro for comfort and sound. Much better just to go for a good set of headphones and a separate mic if on PC. You can spend less for the same quality or the same for better quality...
if you want something to last and be good for sound, i usually recommend sennheiser or beyerdynamic, if mic is needed the antlion modmic wireless is really good. It does become much more costly investment, but buying corsairs and razers again and again because they break or sound bad isn't going to be cheap in the long run either.
Edit: i also used to believe the sound coming from my earlier headphones was quality. But it was quite a different experience running these with the 3.5mm jack in a sound card. The blacksharks are really good for a gaming headphone though.
If your ever at a best buy or a place you can test out headphones. Try out the razer blackshark, it's remarkably comfortable
@@Anarcho-harambeism don't encourage him to buy those lol, they are horrific
@@huttonberries768 idk, I've had a great time with them, though I also love flight/comm style headsets
@@Anarcho-harambeism the only people I've heard that have ever enjoyed razer headphones are people who have never used decent headphones before or have impaired hearing
having the usb-c on one side of the adapter is actually brilliant. steelseries put it in the middle which makes sense and looks nice but usb-c is reversible so by putting it on the side you can flip it around to point in the direction not covering important ports.
I have a whole collection of those plastic USB covers. I actually put them back on when I store cables lol.
I clicked and I thought It was Luke but I was WRONG
same
same :D
Their 7.1 headset (don't remember what it was called) was the first headset experience where I actually heard sounds in a song that I didn't hear with my old gear. I would never use it now, but it was my gateway to higher end audio stuff.
Dear lord what were you using before hand lol
Same. The razer kraken were my first headset. Now I'm rocking some DT 1990s. They're like a gateway drug lol
@@huttonberries768 whatever shit got the sound out, like most people at the time. It's still very common to this day.
I have some razer opus x and the anc literally does nothing but make a weird distortion noise in the background?
does anyone know what codecs they support as it is not listed in the tech specs?
I agree, the bananas are USELESS as a measurement tool, as a plushy tho, I think they are pretty cool. I just dislike how LTT pushes them as a measurement tool
well i like how they pushed it for this one. the reaction is funny as hell lmao
It's just a meme.
wtf its banana, its the best measurement tool
I love this guy so much, he called out razer and Linus tech tips within the first 2 min
someone isn't good just because they reaffirm your personal beliefs
The ANC has a scale from 1 to 10 that you can adjust in synapse maybe it was set to 10 that's why
I owned these for a short while, but returned them ultimately. They sound good, but for $250 I expect more, especially when they omit features like the headphone jack which is why I returned them. I have some Razer Blackshark V2 Pros which feel better built, although don't sound as good (After EQ, the Barracudas are much more Music-First)
I stopped using anything from Razer thanks to their software. I see that I should keep it that way.
Thankfully their Seiren Mini that occasionally use with my laptop doesn't use any software.
I stopped using anything Razer thanks to both - their software and hardware! How can a volume knob be broken from factory on 3 kraken headsets in row.... Nah... Gave up on them and ain't a ray of hope for them to turn me back :D
@@OSkarSS20 I went with Logitech and don't look back. I have some complaints about G815 keyboard not having secondary functions backlit and no possibility to remap keys in Logi soft, but it is not constant grief Razer soft was giving me.
Probably the best reviewer at LMG because he actually doesn't mince his words. I'm tired of sh*t products being portrayed as if they are good value.
I wonder how these compare to the Drop Pandas which have the THX AAA processor as well. Something that maybe Linus can judge good since they praised the Pandas.
Does anybody know what that red white and blue pillow on the shelf is?
Razers mice and keyboards have really improved the past couple years. Not surprising but unfortunate their headphones, especially BT, less so.
I think I’m one of the very few Razer fan girls that watches LMG content but I definitely can appreciate honest reviews like this. Because I have tried these. And they are, in fact, hot garbage.
However, I’m beyond happy with my BlackShark v2 Pros and my Viper Ultimate 🤣 best purchases I’ve made in a while.
Coming from a g pro wireless and the Corsair H530 Pro 🤷🏼♀️
I've have used a Naga mouse since they were first released. Recently bought the huntsman v2 10 keyless keyboard. I think it's actually amazing. 10k dpi on key touch is insane. Yes, hefty price tag. But from my research, any keyboard that was similar or better came with the same high price.
With all that being said, I had purchased years ago the kraken headphone. (I think that was the name) the solid green ones you saw streamers wearing. That experience has kept me from ever purchasing audio gear from razer.
When the crew flips out when he says what we've all been thinking about bananas
Wait. What do you mean by "They abandoned the software after this"? Abandoned like they stopped pushing it & its not required, or abandoned like its still required but they dont support or update it?
I like this guy a lot, he's fun and smart and overall good vibes from the video.
I've been an advocate of boycotting Razer for years. With their absolutely terrible build quality and forced trash tier software, there's a lot of reasons not to use their stuff.
Same here, because as a Linux user, I don't want a product that requires bloated garbage windows only software to use it, for example I recently bought a pair of Sony Wi-C100 neckband earbuds, and while yes they have an Android app that gives you all kinds of extra eq features, you don't need it for them to sound good out of the box, plus they just work with the USB C Gulikit bluetooth adapter on my PC running Solus Linux, and pair like butter with no extra software required.
The only Razer product I ever bought was the Destructor 2 mouse pad, about 10 years ago or something, it's been great and I never went back to soft surfaces. With that said, I never felt attracted to anything else they make, I absolutely hate the green and their stupid snake logo.
@@FastSloth87 Yeah I never liked the logo either, which is another reason I don't touch their stuff.
@@CommodoreFan64funny as a Linux user myself, razer has one of the best Linux community support for their products... So yea also all software is bloated
Stupid argument homie
I have a basilisk pro because it was only thing that fitted my whole feature wish list, but I broadly agree that it’s not a brand that reliably delivers quality or value.
Also something to point out is if you do log in to use their software you cannot re sell the headphones, cause the software stays attached to your account and can no longer be used by anyone else.
Love his face when he says the bananas are not useful and the guys scream in the background, its a face of someone who just realised that had screw up in the job, I´ve made that face many times in my life, I know the felling, great honest review by the way.
I am a zookeeper in chicago and I regularly feed the hippos day old sausages so they have a taste of their home. I put strings on the sausages and swing them around the hippos they get so mad at me and scream but it's an obsession sometimes the hippos try and break out of their cages but I keep swinging those hotdogs in wide circles over their heads. Luckily my boss doesn't know I do this or my cowork
why are you bullying the poor hippos man, thats not cool.
they just want a meal not be your clowns.
@@madbruv CUZ THEY ARE MEAN!!!!
Those are rebranded Sony XM's. LMAO
They somehow look like Sony XMs yes, but they're not rebrands. These are Razer's own hardware. I would genuinely pick up a Sony over this.
@@lolpartyparrot I mean, yeah. Even the old XM2's are hands down the better option.

Wussup early folks, how is your day going?
I have the vmoda m100 masters withthe boom mike replacement cable. I blew my friends minds with how clear the dam thing was.
it seems to me that out of everything they produce, only mices and keypads works well
With a stop light, green means 'go' and yellow means 'slow down'. With a banana, however, it is quite the opposite. Yellow means 'go', green means 'whoa, slow down', and red means 'where the heck did you get that banana?'

Lol, the probable looks of blasphemy when he said the bananas aren't useful
what is a decent wireless anc 2.4 headphone then? There is sony h9 as far as I know, and nothing else
