I actually checked the profile of the bird cage in the thumbnail and it's worse than it seems; there's actually three birds in there right now, apparently one hatched from an egg and it looks like they've been in the small cage for at least a year now

Some things can't be said completely nicely. Backyard-breeding, tiny, inappropriate cage, dirt. That deserves a bit of meanness, especially if the person tries to justify the inappropriate care when called out.
I really adore soda pets. Her passion for giving animals the utmost love and care is inspiring, and her down to earth nature with rocking a beautiful natural face with minimal cosmetics and just being herself is special. Just an all around kind, and warm personality with a goal of education

Yessss. I love being able to sit down to watch a video of hers, and then come away having learned something new about animals I don't even plan on owning. I own a betta fish and a mystery snail, so when I do get to see something about them in her videos I get to know how to do better as a pet owner, and it's so refreshing to have such a positive influence on the internet like her!

At 9:48 you're right about the string (or yarn) being bad for them to chew on, but I just want to mention another thing. I once had exposed string a while back on one of my bird toys and it caused Bluey's feet to get entangled in it. Thankfully we were there and removed the toy, else something real bad could have happened. (Bluey is one of my budgies :) ) So yes, apart from ingestion, it also poses a threat because it is largely exposed, and the cockatiel has a high chance of flying into it, getting tangled, or worse. (Btw, I love your videos, Soda! They're really informative and teach me and many others a lot about animals.)
I use so many different types of perches for my parakeets; apple tree branches, different sizes of natural wood perches, antlers, an old goat skull (100% clean and grease free w/ no chemical processing), a couple of seagrass hammocks for platform perches, etc etc. As long as it can be bird-proofed, it's so easy (and surprisingly cheap) to find ways to enrich bird habitats.

Gosh, that last budgie enclosure really is awesome! I love the natural design, the space, and all the toys. (And four is a good amount of budgies, they won't get lonely and can enjoy a little 'flock'.) Honestly, the outdoor-ish part is so cool, and I'm glad to know the disabled budgie is living well. (I have a few disabled budgies in my flock, 2 who unfortunately lost a toe each when they once had a night fright due to fireworks, one who seems to have brittle feathers so he struggles to fly and that's why we have many low down and accessible perches, and a beautiful girl who lost some of her claws once for an unknown reason. (It may be calcium deficiancy for the one with brittle feathers and the girl who lost some of her claws, and so we've been making sure that they get plenty enough iodine blocks, cuttlefish, and all their neccecary plants.)
Hey thanks for the feedback.💙🦜 In fact, I almost only buy brown and green toys so that the design looks more natural. i also have a bird with a broken toe, that happens quite often.
you could try putting an air humidifier (without a cable) next to the cage and adding a lot of vitamins to the water, which helped a lot with my birds against the brittle feathers.
as soon as the feathers are ok, you should not use any more vitamins, otherwise they will get into breeding mood. it sounds ao like your birds have a nice home.🥰
@@anabeleickholt8633 Thanks for the feedback too! I've used some vitamins, and Snowflake (the budgie with brittle feathers) is slowly starting to regain strength in his feathers. I've also given the budgies a nice iodine block, fruit, and cuttlefish today 😊

Hey thanks for reviewing my budgie cage. 😘💙 And yes I have to clean a lot, but only around the cage. The white one can't fly and has to stay on the cage, that's why the others mainly chill there I guess. And we built the aviary ourselves. We are already building a new play area because the little shits can't go outside in winter. No idea i ended up there, i guess i just escalate quickly when it comes to animals. 😅And I actually didn't even want any budgerigars at all. Just accidentally saved them from a bad owner.

8:35 Budgies and cockatiel’s can hang out under supervision (and if they get along). However, I wouldn’t run the risk of caging them together.
Gotta say this is a little off topic but I was doing homework and one of the questions was:
"A small tank can hold up to 6 goldfish" and blah blah blah math stuff
but apparently no one stopped to think about that question and what it was saying-

It is sad to see little cages but at least most of the cages in the video are good!
I like the budgie layout when there out and toys and swings extra I made something similar for my birds swings from the ceiling and toys wherever possible great to see the birds are free and enjoying playing, cleaning isn't always that bad budgies are great companions
Hey Soda! I just wanted to mention that it's actually okay to house cockatiels with budgies. They're both native Australian birds and flock together in the wild naturally anyways 😊 mixing bird species generally can be a bad idea, but with budgies and cockatiels it's perfectly okay! I have mine in my aviary together, toys everywhere, natural perches everywhere etc. Everyone gets along fantastically! I have lotikeets too, but they are separate of course😊
Large Aviary’s are fine like I said, but cockatiels and budgies shouldn’t be in a cage together, budgies can be extremely territorial and aggressive and can kill cockatiels, they do flock together in the wild yes but they have plenty of space in the wild to have their own territorys

My brother’s friend has an African grey, it’s a really pretty bird but it’s kept in a tiny cage, it looks so sad and it has a bald spot likely from plucking feathers due to stress :(

I adopted a couple of peach faced lovebirds from someone who was moving out of the country. They shared a small cage and were not in good condition. One had plucked many of his own feathers, I suspected from stress. So I bought a second cage and put the cages door to door doubling their space. OMG! Nearly overnight, they transformed into lovely fully feathered birds. One of my pet peeves is that when you buy a blender or TV, you get an owner's manual with instruction on its use and care. Not so with animals! I think it should be required by law.
Apart from UA-cam, I'm not a social media guy, so I most likely won't be sending anything of mine in. Will say that I sat up a blackwater tank for a galaxy koi betta a little while ago, just don't have the betta yet. Tanks developed and the tank life is... well, living... and everything else is ready. Will be picking him up on the weekend.
Also looking to transfer my mollies to a 30-gal blackwater tank. Females will blend in (dalmatian lyretails, over two years old, almost deep black now), male will stick out (white sailfin with golden-brown streaks along his sides, bit of blue on his tailfin). Children mostly look like their mother, Choco, although a few looked like their father, Tupor Saint Milk (2% Milk).
I didn't notice the Twitter link in your videos description... Not too active there, but I do have one. Once I can get a halfway decent photo of the tank or a new phone/camera, I can share a photo of it (old phone. Things gettin' all worn out, camera being one of the more notable issues).

I am also a rehabber with my family and I make sure my dogs and other animals do not eat medicine they can not eat or do not need and I feed properly and let them have toys and treats and cuddel time!

Canaries don’t really play with toys, at least not that I know of, they have different needs than parrots, a canary especially ones that dont get out and eat seeds should have an avairy due to their high energy, I wouldn’t even recommend a flight cage for them unless theyre out a lot or have a bird room their loose in
Canaries are definitely not as playful as other birds but they still play with certain toys from my experience
These bird cages filled with toys and cool top-cage fun always fills me with a bittersweet sadness, because while my budgies will play with toys in their cage, they won't come out of their cage unless I force them to, which I don't want to do that. Same with my cockatiels. My whiteface lutino boy CAN'T have much at all in his cage, even perches?! He can't sit on me without falling off at any little movement, either. He breaks blood feathers all the time, falls, gets his wings trapped in the least expected ways possible, and just always hurts himself anytime I put fun things in the cage, so I have to leave it bare so he doesn't kill himself. As soon as he comes out of the cage he freaks out and flies into a wall then refuses to come back out again afterward. Bless his little heart, we think his vision is bad. I've had him since 2016 when he was just a wee thing and finally put him with his aviary-born friend (whom we got at the same time but for a diff person) a year ago who has helped teach him how to be more of a bird and made him a lot louder and happier, but man is he a hazard to himself. His favorite toy was a pair of old-style, bird-safe "bells" (nothing inside, they just hung from thin chains and clanged together to make sound) but i had to take even that out because he nearly broke his wing with the chain then became so afraid of it he would fight it while screaming at it. My other lutino girl is perfectly "normal" in comparison. While I do wish he could be like all these other cockatiels, I still love him for his quirky, clumsy, sweet little self.

And dear bird owners, please use stainless steel bowls!! Plastic bowls are much easier for bacteria to spread in and it's not good for your birds!

Loge your content and you give lots of good tips
There are things you can try to discourage a female bird from laying eggs. Sometimes in captivity they can get stuck in their breeding cycle longer than they should. When that happens they can run out of calcium for the eggs which is extremely dangerous. One of my females has struggled with this and almost died. It is not okay to encourage a female to lay infertile eggs. That canary nest should absolutely be removed. Also for that much poop to be left from 2 canaries?! I can tell you right now that cage hasn’t been cleaned in at least a month. It needs to be hosed and scrubbed off outside and then dried before putting the canaries back in.

10:00 from my experience, bells are just as bad as mirrors. 90% of the time they encourage breeding behavior w/ my tiels ESPECIALLY the females! Handmade toys and bird toy suppliers have much better and safer alternatives.

And yes, I researched the species and I have experience caring for birds and the bird seems right for me! I found I would be able to give the bird lots of attention and care. They require lots of toys, proper food, a clean, large cage, safety, and of course attention
Yes, it is! it even helps against brittle feathers. make sure that you can change the filter and clean it so that no bacteria form. and get a model without a cable. No cable survives a bird. 🤣🤣🤣
And get two birds. When they live alone they get depressed and pluck their feathers.😘

Canaries lay eggs, they do this every couple of weeks taking the best out is a place where females sit at night and also a place for any eggs when laid, otherwise canaries will lay in their food bowl extra and this can be bad for their feathers as they can get matted, however the cages that get sold in pet stores ain't always brilliant buying online on eBay or Amazon can sometimes be better a square cage flight cage if the bird fly outside the cage then thats good too some toys are good but there not really playful only when young
Birds don't just straight away sit on the eggs once they have laid on them once they have finished laying all of the eggs. If you look up videos you see ducks they don't straight away sit on just one egg they wait to finish of how many eggs. Why can they not let their Canary's Braid it's up to them.
