    Thank you for this helpful video on how to repair the fridge. With this video and another I was able to successfully restore the temperature and our fridge is working again. One point I will add for those who are watching the video is you MUST let the fridge thaw out to remove the back panel. It will not come off until you use a hair dryer or heat gun to melt the ice down. We saw water in the lower drawer and some leaked into the freezer. Our fridge was at 59 degrees and the ice build up was coming through the holes in the rear of the fridge. I highly recommend the the extended wire to ensure the water goes down the hole. Thanks again!

    Thank you so much. I had been defrosting the sheet of ice under the deli drawer every other week for more than a year before I found this. The installation of a couple of wires into the drain tube to keep it clear is genius and seems to have solved my problem. Thanks again.

    GE Tech here..... this is what i do when i come across this issue. One other thing to consider is replacing the entire fan cover. In severe cases, the Styrofoam insulation becomes impregnated with ice and water. That is an expensive part however....

    As I just found out, that back panel may be frozen from the inside so you have to really yank it down. And then my bottom drain tray was also frozen up. Used this. IceSurrender Frozen Water Line Tool (36")

    I have this same model with the same issue. I’d like your advice. I found the defrost element was open, so it was replaced. The drain was not clogged. Several months later, same problem of icing. The Defrost element was good this time and no blockage in drain. I bought a new control board from GE/Samsung. It corrected the defrost element problem but the interior lights in fresh food compartment stopped working (freezer light still worked) and the ice maker started ticking and made ice but defrost coil in I/M stopped working. I put back the original board and light came on when I opened door. The I/M still kept ticking and no ice. Any ideas????? Thanks for the vids.

    Thanks for the video, I used two zip ties and pointed them into the drain hole, hopefully no more problems

    • @feversol
      @feversol Рік тому

      It isn’t sticking something in that hole that helps. The purpose of the metal wires is to use some of the heat off that heater coil go down those wires and into the drain pipe. Plastic zip ties will not carry heat. I think the real problem occurs when that small flapper type valve inside those drain pipe becomes plugged which allows water to back up into the refrigerator. It then freezes inside that drain pipe and the additional water overflows into the refrigerator. Cut the tip of those flapper type devices inside that drain tube he pulled apart that are in the back of the refrigerator. Especially the one on the right that goes to the refrigerator. If the water can no longer back up and stand in that drain tube, it can’t freeze. Mine was brittle and just broke which gave me a much larger opening.

    I have this fridge and it's totally dead after a power outage. No lights, no display. Won't run, nothing. Last time this happened, I replaced the main circuit board and that fixed it. This time, no such luck. I'm going to replace the power supply board and see if that works, but do you have any other ideas of what could be the problem?

  • @clockhart1

    Defrosted this fridge for 4 days b/c ice has frozen up to the fan. Now I'm not getting any power to anything when plugging in the fridge. What could have happened to cause power to not work now? There's no fuse on the main circuit board, so I'm at a loss. Any ideas? (Not even the front panel or lights are working).

    I am fixing to defrost mine. Concerned about over flow on to floor. Any comments on this? UPDATE: I did defrost mine and it was no problem. Surprised at how little water we collected. Used a suction device to draw out water from pan and none ran over. Teck wants to come back and replace defrost loop. $300+. Already hit me for over $300 for 2 calls. Have new box on way but box has been fine from time of defrost. Found someone who wants it so I am happy. I removed both of caps on drain and water still flows into pan.

    • @feversol

      The drain tube in the middle that he stuck those metal wires becomes blocked from ice. I believe the solution is to open the rear of the refrigerator and check that flapper like constriction in that tube. It may have become blocked allowing water to back up into the refrigerator where it freezes. Clip the end of those flapper type ends making a larger hole that can’t become blocked from small amounts of rust, etc. Then, the water cannot back up and stand in that tube where it freezes. Mine were brittle from age and the tips broke off so I just reattached them knowing water can no longer become blocked. The wires he attached could be helpful, but if the water cannot back up and sit still right there, it cannot freeze.
