In this video, I go through the design and construction of a 3D printed soda/sand/media blaster that is perfect for anyone interested in budget DIY projects.
The 350z has had the Kinetix manifold installed on it since I got the car, and personally I think I just prefer the factory manifold, all other considerations aside these are supposed to be for forced induction, and this car is going to remain N/A for the foreseeable future.
But to put the factory manifold back on the car, it's going to need a bit of a tidy up.
I've been putting off this project for quite some time, and I also have not been that happy with the commercial soda blasters that are available. So I decided that it was finally time that I design my own soda blaster that I can use on this and future projects.
The completely 3D printed design is a fraction of the cost of the commercial unit and does without one of the main limitations of those designs - a small capacity, gravity fed hopper.
With the vacuum fed design I've come up with your only limitation is the length of the hose you use and the size of the media container itself.
Let me know what you think of the design and if it's something you'd be keen to try yourself!

Psst, if you hit up your local animal feed shop you can get a 20kg bag of powdered bicarb soda for 30 odd dollary doos.
Getting good flow of media out if the hopper is tricky with soda as it will clump if its damp or even if its too humid. Commercial units have a bleed line to partially pressurise the media tank to help push it through (just make sure your compressor has a good drier attached), for small units you can insert a metal tube in the end of the pickup line so you can dig it around the supply bin to free up the media.
Also a good idea to sift the soda before you start to clear up any clumps
(I ate a lot of soda stuffing around with this in my back yard)

Hey mate thanks for the tip. I was planning on trying to source some in a larger quantity so I'll start there.
Funny you mention the humidity, I struggled a little with condensation due to my drier on my compressor acting up.
Going to give this design another go soon for some upcoming projects so I'll make sure to post how I go.
      Thanks again!

Very interesting Ilike the compact size would be very handy in a small workshop

Thanks mate! It's been great so far and doesn't take up much room in the drawer either 😂

Great videos. Can't wait to see more.
Is the 3D model available to download?

Thanks mate. I don't usually share my IP but I'm toying with the idea of making some things available for download.

@@fatlipcollective Ah okay. Well I'm subscribed so I'll get notified when.
Also, I want to see how the msd ignition went on the Toyota. I find the video search hard to follow. I've only seen the reels

I like where your heads at but I think there are 2 way better options that suit restoration work. I know you sighted space. But converting a blasting cabinet to a water blaster would be worth it's weight in gold. Parts come out looking brand new.
Also with your ingenuity. You could be the first to hack together some kind of budget dry ice blaster. The results from those with zero damage to the original items are bordering on magic.
P.S. I sent you dm on insta 😉

      Hey mate thanks for watching.
At the moment I really am maxed on space with the stuff I already have and am planning for and I don't have a need for a cabinet that I won't really use all that often. For sure it would be great to do one day and if I had a little more space I wouldn't even think about not doing it but for now this will have to do :)

Yo I got a question with your 3D T300 wheel adapter kit, so on the original T300 wheel there’s a chip at the back so the wheel can connect to your console but if I get this wheel adapter and add a wheel I’m not to sure if it will work, got any solutions?

      Hey mate,
So that connection is for the buttons on the original wheel, when you mount the aftermarket wheel you will just lose those ones.
Shoot me a message on instagram if you like and I can send you a couple of pics of my setup.
