  • I have been flying my 3DR Solo drone just about every day since Christmas. Pro photographer, George Kuchler gives tips on how I use the cable cam mode, master Air Screws propeller blades and the Alpha Antennas. I will show you some drone footage so you'll see me working then the actual video produced. #3DR SOLO #Drone Footage #drone review

    Hey fellow Solo owner here! Instead of holding the nuts and the prop together just spin the motor it makes life much easier to get those props on!!😀

      Prodigal, I've been putting this thing to the test flying it in wind that is almost too strong to fly in and I'm shocked at how well the Solo performs. As soon as it gets up in the air and maintains altitude, you realize this thing is a well built machine. :)

      It's a beast. I love it. 3DR should keep the price low and dominate the market. Oh well, great to dream. Peace!

    Nice video brother you should really straighten those antennas out though holy mackerel. Directional antennas my friend keep those things pointed at the Drone Alfa lettering out

  • @cackychet
    @cackychet 7 років тому +1

    i do agree
    mine is fine also

  • @kdanagger6894
    @kdanagger6894 7 років тому +1

    Those Alfas need to be pointed at the drone for maximum signal gain because they are directional - the lettering side is the front. The radiation pattern is shown on the box they come in. If they are pointed 90 degrees or more away from the drone the way you have them, you are in a null which will drastically reduce range vs. the stock antennas.
    It's the stock antennas that actually have a much wider coverage - they are almost spherical.
    The directivity of the Alfas is what gives them the increased range. They focus the power in one direction. You can't get signal gain and wider coverage without more transmitter power... there is no free lunch.

    3 things:
    1. It's Master Air Screw, not Master Screw.
    2. Glue the aluminum nuts to the blades.
    3. The alpha antennas have a narrower broadcast signal than stock antenna,s not wider. Look it up.

    I have had mine for more then 14 months and after 100 of hours of flying in the winter light rain and 10 crashes I love it and there is now so much aftermarket stuff that makes all the small design flaws go away.. I hope someone will make a aftermarket gimbal for the gopro 5

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому

      When I was shopping for drones I Wanted something to learn on without spending one thousand dollars. I shopped for weeks, then one day by accident I saw Best Buy selling this thing for $299 and it could hold a GoPro. I thought crashing a $300 bird into a tree was better than a thousand dollar bird. BEST DECISION I MADE!!!!! The 3DR Solo is incredible at what it can do. Watch my videos and you'll see what I mean. I still want a smaller drone for my vlogs but for when I need the big guns the 3DR is perfect.
      Don't let the haters change your mind. :)

      The first time you get it in the air you'll realize it's a machine. I was impressed by the power it has. Go to open fields and take your time. You can adjust the speed via the app so keep it on SLOW and fly it as much as you can to get used to the controller. Let me know when YOU have a video to share. :)

    hey man, how is it going? I wanted to tell you that 3DR is selling the solo at that price because they are broken, they are no longer making the solo, the Solo used to be 1400$ with the gimbal. Is sad to see how 3DR ended, they are not going to make any other drone... is very sad, however Solo is one of the smartest drones even in 2017 still do a lot of things that other drones don't, #Fly3DR

    • @silbay
      @silbay 7 років тому

      Actually 3DR is selling Solo's with the sitescan software and the Sony camera for $12,000. They had said long ago they were more interested in commercial use. I guess they decided to leave the toy market to DJI. BTW there is a current Microsoft cloud commercial that starts off with the Solo, and If you look the Solo is being utilized more and more in the building sector.

    107 is a joke but unfortunately it is required for commercial use. The FAA loads the test with tons of useless information for a drone pilot.
    GPS is lost under trees since the signal is microwatts coming from geosynchronous satellites 24,000 miles in space. Trees will cut out Directv and SiriusXm also due to the same problem.
    BTW 3DR is a wonderful bird but they have been out of the consumer market for over 6 months and they will never return. Go to the 3DR groups on facebook and you will find the experts that know and are modifying the hardware and writing Solex which is well worth the price to replace the stock software.
    What do you mean by "width widens" I really suggest you learn some antenna theory, the dipoles that come with the controller have a 360 degree polar pattern while the Alfa's are no more than 90 degrees which is why they get longer range. Unless you keep the alfas aimed directly at the bird you will lose contact and control and that includes as the bird goes up in altitude you need to aim upwards.
    Not trying to bust your chops but your video is full of incorrect information.

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому

      I think they need to catch up with times and certify you according to how you will use it commercially. I don't plan on flying out of sight so yes lots of info on the test is cray cray. :)

    maybe it was your Gyros wanted to autocorrect not you GPS when you were landing and crashed?

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому

      Could be. The funny thing is every crash I have had in the last 2 months have been less than 2 feet off the ground. One time it was on the ground from landing and it wanted to take off again and it flipped. I'm sure me trying to correct the re-take off is what did it but....cray cray! :)

    so after flying Solo every day what"s your take on solo"s gps reliability?

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому

      I would say once it catches the GPS Sats it's pretty awesome. Ironically, GPS doesn't seem to like OAK trees. :) I like to fly through our large Oak trees and I'm amazed on how GPS gets distracted from leaves and large tree canopies. Besides that, I've never had a fly away and when something signal gets lost it returns home perfectly. For the price it's really silly not to get one. I'm going flying today and I'll post some footage tomorrow. :)

    Mavic destroys Solo no comparison I have had three Solo drones fail , very unsafe . The DJI Mavic Pro is far more advanced my Solo fell from 300 feet motor wire came loose . Its a money pit have to upgrade everything because it sucks i bought 6 batteries four wont hold a charge . The Mavic battery work like brand new every single time , I can fly multiple times per day and the battery charges perfectly .You get what you pay for , 1000 dollars for safe reliable flight is worth it to me . I dont want a 4 pound missile falling out of the freaking sky randomly . My 2 year old phantom 3 flies better than Solo, Phantom batteries also charge like new . Save your money buy the best DJI wont fail you like Solo wasting your hard earned money . DJI is like the Apple of drones cant be beat .

    hi did you replace the GPS module?

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому

      I did not, but should in the future. Yesterday I was flying at about 1300 feet away and the controller lost signal??? GPS kicked in and return to home happened. I have the Alpha antennas on so I don't know why the controller, which is WIFI, lost signal. All is good and it returned safe but I don't think the GPS Module change would have helped. I could be wrong. :) Yesterday was also one of the best days flying. :) I Swear the Master Air Screw Props do make a difference.

    • @CroMagnun
      @CroMagnun 7 років тому +1

      I bought the Alpha Antennas, and checked with the manufacturer who told me that the Alpha Logo must be pointing toward the Solo in use. The antennas are patch antennas which have a strong pattern in that direction. If you have them oriented differently then they will still work because the ground plane of the patch isn't that large so you get radiation in lots of directions, but it can be about 10 to 25 dB below the max gain of about 7dBi. Keep the "ALPHA" facing the drone for best performance.

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому

      Christofer, I have been making sure the Alpha logo is facing the Solo and all is good so far. I think the best way to know if it works any better is at a greater distance.

    • @CroMagnun
      @CroMagnun 7 років тому +1

      I agree. Sorry, I thought I saw them facing edgewise in the video. You must have just bumped them while filming.

    • @FocusedwithGK
      @FocusedwithGK  7 років тому +1

      I have to keep tightening the part that screws into the controller and making sure to turn the Alpha panel to the direction I need them. They do move if not watching them while flying and filming. :)
