I love hearing someone else who gets it. I had a completely different, sharply skeptical, materialist, atheistic view, when I first watched the series. I hated the ending. However, I have since, had more than one NDE, and have "seen beyond the veil", so to say, and now I absolutely love it. I wonder if they weren't influenced by, some NDE stories. I'm not religious now, I'm far too rational for that, however I do consider myself, a Deist now. There certainly is something. The second time it happened, the amount of things I learned, that all turned out to be true, and the number of others, that have described the same experience, have convinced me there is in fact a higher plain of consciousness after this. My heart stopped. I was dead, saw myself, and had further experiences, including but not limited to, seeing moments from my life, through the eyes of others there, seeing dead relatives and friends, and a beautiful grove. This show probably comes closer to the truth, than actual religions do today.
... I'm also WAY more affectionate and compassionate towards others. One by one, all sorts of bad habits began to fade away. I'm not saying I'm perfect now, far from it, but I have this constant drive to become a better person. I use a therapist, instead of a priest or guru. It's a very personal, introspective journey, that I would suggest to anyone, yet don't push on anyone. I couldn't have considered what happened to me to be possible. It literally took death, twice, for me to consider it. So I don't blame anyone that has trouble believing this, but you'll see one day... we all will (at our own respective times of course, this isn't some crazy doomsday prophecy, far from it).
Well anyway, I love what you're doing here. You're very insightful.

Thank you for sharing your life affirming experiences. When I watched the LOST series finale back in 2010, I would have considered myself a staunch atheist but it still very much moved me in a very profound way. And it has stuck with me ever since. As I have gotten older, I have become less staunchly anything and more open to the mysteries of the universe. I don't go by a particular label anymore but I do love to talk about the nature of life, death and existence with people. A lot of the existential concepts I think about and discuss have come from my studying of LOST and its related mythologies/philosophies from over the years. The show has continued to be a source of inspiration in those areas.

I would say before
If you remember the details of the show fairly well then you can jump straight into watching the video once it is released. If your memory of events and what happened is hazy or half-forgotten then I recommend you re-watch the series (because it's worth it) then come back here :)

@lost explained - Great series! Your insight has been incredible, and all points completely backed by examples and sound reasoning. Can You clear up this 1 question. Every vision had by Desmond was wrong, the first 3 were thwarted directly by Desmond trying to save Charlie, the 4th came 90% true but changed because he had 2nd thoughts and saved Charlie. The 5th vision told him Charlie would die to get Claire(and Aaron) saved by helocopter. That vision went exactly to plan with no altering and was still wrong. So what was the point of his visions exactly? Thanks for this series

@@LOSTEXPLAINED108 yes I get it and loved that video, but that's what I'm confused about, if the island was sending Desmond visions of the future, I guess where all the visions accurate about the future but the last one was a lie/manipulation because as I understood Desmond to understand, in the future there would be a helicopter but there was no helicopter so did the island plant a fake vision to achieve its goal? sorry for the bother
Well, the flashes are debatable as to whether or not they were showing Desmond the actual possible future or if they were simply visions to motivate him into action. I discuss that in the aforementioned video.
As for the final vision that you are curious about -- involving Charlie's sacrifice and Claire's rescue -- there are a couple of possibilities to explain this. We know Desmond sometimes misinterprets the flashes in his visions. He thought Naomi was going to be Penny in 'Catch 22' (that whole episode was based on him misunderstanding the flashes he was receiving). He also thought Charlie would drown in a room after flicking off a switch but it was far more complicated (a lot happened between the switch being flicked and his drowning).
We know there was a helicopter escape for the Oceanic Six. That did come to pass. So, it's possible that Desmond actually saw a very intense yet brief flash of *Kate* holding Aaron on the helicopter and mistook her for Claire because the flash happened so quickly.
The other explanation is that Claire would absolutely have gotten on the chopper had the Man in Black (posing as Fake Christian) not interfered and "claimed" her. After all, the only reason she isn't on that helicopter in the S4 finale is because the Man in Black has influenced her to come with him and leave the group, and her baby, behind.
I don't believe that Desmond lied to Charlie about this. There is no evidence to support such a reading.

Hey @LostExplained, in episode 6x07 'Dr Linus', while in the afterlife Ben Linus and his father Roger discuss living on the Island. Do you think this means they have both had awakenings by this point, or is the Island not sunk underwater for them?
This is actually quite a complex question to answer even though the answer is very simple. I have to unpack it so that it makes sense.
Firstly, Ben and Roger have definitely not had awakenings at this point in 'Dr. Linus'. Ben begins to remember when Desmond hits him towards the end of season six and most of his awakening happens off-screen before we see him at the church. We can assume he goes on to "awaken" his father, and Danielle and Alex.
Secondly, the sideways is a construct. None of it is real. So the rules of reality no longer apply. The sideways presents us with an alternative construct of the world in 2004 in which the island never "interfered" with nor reconfigured the destinies of our Oceanic 815 characters. The Island being at the bottom of the ocean is largely symbolic because its influence on each character's life is very specific, so by taking it "out of the picture" it creates ripple effects in everyone's lives that will be different for each person.
However, that is not to say the island simply doesn’t exist in the sideways at all. We see it at the bottom of the ocean just as it was in the real 2004. Let’s look at the island underwater in that opening scene of 'LA X'. Everything on it is still there. The remnants of the Taweret statue with four toes. The DHARMA barracks. Everything just as it was up to at least 1977. Which means the island history technically “happened” in the sideways. It's just a slightly alternative history because our Oceanic 815 characters never interacted with events there, which includes... drumroll please!... the causal time travel events.
So, Young Ben was never shot by Sayid and The Incident was never prevented from happening because there was no Juliet or Jughead to stop it. Which means Roger and Ben would have been evacuated along with everyone else in this alternative 1977 and got off the island. The Island sinks as a result of our Oceanic 815ers not being there to stop it. Had this happened in the real 1977, the world would have ended. However, none of the sideways is real so it doesn't end the world. Everyone is already dead.
Anyway, Ben and Roger now remember this alternate series of sideways events. This construct has prevented them from remembering their true lives in which Roger became an abusive father and Ben killed him years later. Instead, they experience their lives had the island not entangled them in its tapestry of time, like everyone else. And they get to experience a close father-son relationship as a result of that island absence.
Every character in the sideways has a grounding in their actual real world history. The Island had major influence on various aspects of their lives and decisions that fed into the tapestry of time. They could not be picked apart from that tapestry in life. But in death... their lives diverge off from what actually happened to them so we can see what could have been without Jacob and The Island's influence. And we see that these people were soulmates who would have crossed paths and affected one another's lives regardless. They were connected in life and death.
As I said, a lot of this is subjective and symbolic. Because different souls will experience different versions of the sideways. The reason that we don't see Richard Alpert in the season six sideways is because he no doubt is experiencing his own version of it with Isabella (his soulmate) in a version of 1867. Time has no meaning where they are. They are beyond time now. Beyond history. Reality is all relative.

I only have 1 unanswered question.In season 6 on one intro it shows Jacob's "foot" on the bottom of the ocean.I've never heard anyone even mention it..

@@brianhearon9241 if I remember correctly I'm pretty sure it was in The Flash sideways so in away the island has always existed it's just under water in the seen your referring to the island exist in all its Glory just Out Of Reach under the sea that's why we see Jacobs statue and the sharks with the Dharma tattoo in the scene
@@brianhearon9241 The foot of the Taweret statue on the bottom of the ocean is a symbolical representation of the fact that the characters' memories of the Island are buried deep inside their subconscious. For them, in their flash-sideways "reality," the Island simply doesn't exist. Until they all collectively realize that, actually, the time that they spent on the Island represented the most important parts of their lives.
